A/N: So today, I saw the new MHA movie My Hero Academia: You're Next, and it ROCKED! Expect me to do a chapter on it at some point.
Also, a note for Raye23: I haven't forgotten about the request you gave me about Deku having each of the One For All Quirks one at a time; I just wanna get these Halloween chapters out of the way first.
Nothing much had happened since Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima began their investigation of the Musutafu Mauler. They went about their usual classes in addition to conducting patrols. Ever since the end of the Paranormal Liberation War, various students from various hero schools had been enlisted to conduct patrols throughout Japan to compensate for the shortage of pro heroes. Today, Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima found nothing out of the ordinary save for some groups of looters. One looter was arrested and questioned because he used a bayonet as his weapon of choice, and thus was a candidate for the Musutafu Mauler. While he was disproven as being the killer due to having an alibi for each of the slayings, he was nevertheless held by the police for robbery and illegally carrying a knife. Then, one day, Deku got a call from Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi:
"Hello?"
"Hey Midoriya, it's Detective Tsukauchi."
"What's up?"
"We were able to successfully analyze the blood sample you brought in. Unfortunately, it doesn't match with any known samples, so we presume it may be the killer's."
"Well, if that's the case, then that tells me that the fourth victim must've fought back."
"It sure looks that way. Listen, you and your classmates take it easy. We'll do our best to investigate, but we'll call if we need any additional help. Have a nice day, Midoriya."
"Will do. You too!"
Both parties hung up.
"Who was that?" asked Todoroki.
"That was Detective Tsukauchi. He says they analyzed the blood sample we found and it didn't match any known suspects."
"Weird. What do we do now?"
"Well, based on our findings, it appears that the killer was wounded because their latest victim fought back. Let's just wait around and see what happens."
"Right."
The next day, Deku was minding his own business when he heard knocking on his door.
"I'm coming!"
Deku opened the door, and Todoroki was standing there with her phone.
"Deku, look at this!"
"What's going on, Shoko?"
"It's about the killer!"
Deku took Todoroki's phone and looked at the latest headline:
"MUSUTAFU MAULER" CLAIMS PRO HEROES
Two more victims have been claimed by the serial killer known as the "Musutafu Mauler", but what makes this case especially notable is that the victims were well-known pro heroes. Shinji Nishiya, age 30 – better known as "Kamui Woods" – and Ryuko Tatsuma, age 26 – better known as "Ryukyu" – were found dead in the same manner as other victims, with multiple stab wounds caused by a large-bladed knife. There has been much speculation about how the killer has been able to overpower these pros, and it has also brought concerns amongst the public about the Public Safety Commission's ability to catch the killer:
"Well, if this guy can kill tough heroes like those, I don't see any reason that the police or heroes will be able to catch him," said Kuro Yoshioka, a student at Musutafu University. "This guy seems like nothing but bad news of the highest order.
"A lot of us are even afraid to set foot out on the streets knowing that someone like him's out there," said Akari Yamada, a nurse at Central Hospital. "If he can just kill heroes like this and get away with it, I feel that much less safe here."
Toshinori Yagi – formerly known as "All Might" – expressed a differing opinion:
"I've fought tougher villains during my time as a hero, and I can tell that while this killer is indeed a force to be reckoned with, he's not the toughest villain society has ever faced. If the heroes and police do their best, then I'm sure they'll bring him to justice."
Whether or not the killer gets caught, one thing is for sure: The Public Safety Commission will have an uphill battle with this case.
"This is bad!" said Deku.
"What do we do now?" asked Todoroki.
"Let's do what we did last time: investigate the scene and see if we can find anything that the police may have missed."
"Hey Midoriya! Hey Todoroki! Goin' to investigate the Musutafu Mauler again?"
Deku and Todoroki turned to see Kirishima waiting for them.
"Yes, we were." Deku nodded.
Kirishima's look turned serious as he put his fist over his heart. "Well I'm comin' again! Anybody who's got the nerve to kill heroes like that is an unmanly bastard!"
"I hear you!" said Todoroki.
Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima went to investigate the scene where Kamui Woods was killed, in the parking lot of a Lawson convenience store.
"Nothing here," said Todoroki.
"I didn't get anything either," said Kirishima.
"Let's check out the scene where Ryukyu was killed."
Next, Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima investigated the scene where Ryukyu was killed, down by the bank of the Kaneki River.
"Nothing here, either," said Kirishima.
"What about this?" Todoroki held up an empty box of Mrs. Pell's Fish Sticks.
"Todoroki, DON'T TOUCH THAT!" exclaimed Deku.
Todoroki dropped the box of fish sticks. "Why not?"
"If that's linked to the killer and you get your fingerprints on it, the police will think you're the killer!"
Todoroki gave Deku a blank look. "Oh."
"In any case, let me check that out."
After wiping off the spots where Todoroki touched, Deku grabbed his pair of tweezers and picked up the box. Sure enough, it had blood on it, so he put it in another Ziploc bag.
"Let's get this to the police."
Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima once again went to the police with the evidence, where they encountered Tsukauchi.
"Hey Midoriya. What did you find this time?"
"We found this at the site of Ryukyu's murder." Deku produced the bag with the box of fish sticks.
Tsukauchi took the bag. "OK, we'll look into this. In the meantime, you three be careful, got it?"
"Got it!" said Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima simultaneously.
"Good. Have a nice day!"
"You too!"
Deku, Todoroki and Kirishima left the police station.
"OK, something's botherin' me about this case…" said Kirishima.
"What?" asked Deku.
"First of all, why would there be a bag of frozen peas and a box of fish sticks at the crime scenes? Second, how did the cops miss those?"
Deku nodded. "I understand where you're coming from, Kirishima. Still, they did have blood on them, so they could be useful in helping us catch the killer."
"Besides, in all the time I've known Deku, rarely – if ever – has he steered me wrong, so I trust him," said Todoroki.
Kirishima nodded and gave a thumbs-up. "All right, if you trust him, then I trust him too! He's gotten Class 1-A out of some pretty tight jams, so I'm counting on him to help us solve this case!"
Deku smiled. "Well, I hope to solve it. It's not like we're trying to capture Shigaraki, but on the other hand, this killer is proving to be elusive. Then again, if the US Military could find Osama Bin Laden, then we should be able to find this criminal."
Kirishima smiled. "Never thought about it that way, but that's a really manly way to think about it!"
Todoroki giggled. Even if they were no closer to solving the case, the fact that her beloved Deku was smiling about it gave her hope.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
