A/N: A weird case stokes the fire of an old feud, while Lorelei and Sean take another step in their relationship.
*Sean's POV*
It took Sean about a couple of weeks to build up the courage. Both to call his mother and ask Lorelei to move in with him. During a quiet moment at work, Sean made the call to his mother.
"Sean. It is wonderful to hear from you again so soon." His mother greeted him from the other end.
"It is good to hear from you again, Mother." Sean told her. "I have called with news, good news."
"Hmm, intriguing. What is you wish to share with me, my son?"
Sean let out a breath. "I have found my soulmate. And we are expecting a child in November."
His mother was silent for a moment. "That is wonderful Sean." She said and Sean could hear the smile in her voice. "You are finally making me a grandmother. Tell me more about your soulmate. What is she like?"
Sean felt a smile break out across his face as he thought about Lorelei. "She is…perfect. Her name is Lorelei. She's a grad student here in Portland studying Public Health. There is an age difference, which was expected. However, she is…she is truly perfect for me. There is one slight catch…She is a Grimm. And the younger sister of one of my subordinates."
"Hmm." His mother said. "That is…rare. A wesen being soulmates with a Grimm. However, I have heard of it happening. Is she aware of your wesen side?"
Sean nodded. "She is. And she accepts it. Lorelei and her brother are unique for Grimms. Some of their closest friends are wesen."
"I am happy for you Sean. Meeting one's soulmate is such a gift. I look forward to meeting your love, and the mother of my grandchild."
That evening, after dinner, Sean and Lorelei were curled up on the couch in his living room, music playing in the background. Sean's hand was resting on Lorelei's slowly growing belly, her smaller hand resting on top of it. Sean had been wondering how to broach the subject of them moving in together. It was not something he had ever done before, ask a woman to move in with him. Sean was surprised by how nervous he was. "Are you ok? You've been a bit quiet?" Lorelei asked him.
He glanced down at her. "Yes, I'm fine. There is something I wish to discuss with you; however, I am unsure how to bring it up."
Lorelei sat up to face him, their hands falling off her stomach. "What is it?" She asked gently.
Sean let out a slow breath. "I've been thinking, since you lease is coming up for renewal, and with a baby on the way, it may be…beneficial for us to…move in together here." He finished up slowly as he glanced at Lorelei, who had a contemplative expression on her face.
"Hmm. It did does make sense." She said slowly.
"There is, of course, space here for Molly and Daisy. I know how important they are to you." He added quickly. Although he had never really been a pet kind of person, he had come to grow affectionate towards the animals. And they seemed to like him as well.
"Well, that's good. Because I plan to keep them for the rest of their lives." Lorelei said, half joking, half serious.
"You don't need to answer straight away. And if you would prefer to stay in your own place. Your apartment is available for however long you wish to stay there." Sean assured her.
Lorelei nodded. "Give me a couple of days to think about, but it does make sense for us to live together. It was probably going to happen eventually anyway. Might as well speed up the timeframe a bit."
"No rush. We have plenty of time." Sean told her, as Lorelei settled back against him.
*Lorelei's POV*
The evening after Sean asked her to move in with him, Lorelei had Juliette and Rosalee over at her place for a girl's night. The older women each had a glass of wine, while Lorelei had some sparkling grape juice. After they had settled in, Lorelei told them what Sean had asked her. "Well, do you know what you are going to decide?" Juliette asked her, taking a sip of her wine.
"Honestly, I am heavily leaning towards to saying yes. And it will make things easier when the baby comes. A part of me feels like it is a little too soon, but he is my soulmate, and it was going to happen eventually."
"And relationships with soulmates do typically happen at a faster pace." Rosalee commented. "I'm actually in a similar situation. Monroe asked me to move in with him last night as well. And he told me he loves me."
Lorelei gasped, as did Juliette. "No way. That's great." Lorelei told her.
"We are so happy for you and Monroe." Juliette added.
Rosalee smiled into her glass. "We actually found out we are soulmates. We figured it out a few weeks ago, when we made love for the first time. We've been keeping it to ourselves, after everything that went on afterwards."
The other women were overjoyed for their friends, and after a few minutes of hugging and cheers-ing, Juliette asked Rosalee what her answer had been. The fuschbau confirmed that she had agreed to moving in with Monroe. Rosalee had looked at Lorelei. "Don't let my decision influence you. Moving in with someone, even your soulmate is a big step."
Lorelei smiled at her. "Don't worry. I won't. I was already leaning towards it anyway. Sean and I are at one of our places most nights anyway. It makes sense to move in together. At least I don't have to move very far though. It's just upstairs."
"Yeah, well just be careful. I still don't completely trust him." Rosalee told her.
"I don't completely trust him either, and he knows that. But he is trying, you know, being more honest. And he did help you guys get Nick back. Even if he may have had his own reasons for doing so."
An hour or two later, the other two women had left, while Lorelei got ready for bed alone. Sean had stayed at his own place, allowing Lorelei the space to spend time with her friends and make a decision on whether to accept his offer without him hovering. Even with Molly and Daisy joining her, Lorelei felt the bed was too empty without Sean in it. She had grown accustomed to sharing the bed with him. Lorelei placed her hand on her belly. "What do you think bub? Should we move in with Daddy?"
A few nights later, Lorelei was hiding with Hank, Juliette, Rosalee, and Bud in Monroe's kitchen waiting to surprise Nick. Nick was finally moving out of Monroe's house and back in with Juliette. Monroe had the idea of throwing a little party to celebrate. At the signal, they all jumped out yelling surprise. Needless to say, Nick was surprised, questioning the celebration as it wasn't his birthday.
"It's for your leaving." Monroe told him.
Rosalee laughed. "Oh yeah, you're leaving us and we're pretty excited about it." Rosalee told him, sitting on the edge of Monroe's couch.
"So, my wife baked a cake. She doesn't need much of an excuse." Bud said, a large smile on his face.
The cake made by Bud's wife Phoebe was brought out. "Bud, this cake is gorgeous. Where's your wife?" Juliette asked Bud.
"She's with the kids. Somebody's gotta watch them." Bud replied. "God knows what they'll chew up when you're not home."
Everyone laughed. "What? Even Patty?" Lorelei asked him.
Bud chuckled. "Patty's the worst." He said and Lorelei chuckled along with him.
Monroe raised his glass. "I just want to say for a roommate, who's a Grimm, and I really mean this…" Monroe was cut off when his phone started ringing. Rosalee went to go answer it. "So, where was I?"
"You were about to tell me how great I am." Nick joked.
"Actually, I was about to say how great I was for putting up with you. But yeah, you were ok too."
Hank butted in. "Ah, can we get to the drinking part."
Monroe smiled at him. "Yeah, let's do that." Monroe said, tapping his glass against Hank's as everyone else followed suit. They all had champagne and Lorelei, of course, had something non-alcoholic.
"Hey, Kimbar's on the phone. Something's happened to Sam." Rosalee interrupted. "She's calling everyone looking for him."
"What?" Monroe said, walking over to take the phone from Rosalee.
"Who's Sam?" Nick asked Rosalee.
"A friend of Monroe's. I just met him at a restaurant the other night."
"What happened to him?" Bud asked.
"He hasn't come home and he's not answering his phone. So, she's getting very concerned." Rosalee answered.
They all waited, as Monroe finished his call and turned to them. "This is weird. Kimbar says Sam snapped this morning. That he woke up and his eyes were kind of glassy, he didn't feel well but he went to work anyway. And now she can't find him. And this is not like Sam."
Lorelei saw a look cross Nick's face. "Did he eat at Raven and Rose?" Nick asked.
Everyone else turned their attention to Nick. "Yeah." Monroe replied. "That's actually where we ran into them."
"Love that place. A little pricey but worth it." Bud commented.
Nick moved into detective mode. "Right. Is he a blutbad?"
Monroe glanced at Rosalee before looking back at Nick, a strange expression on his face. "Yeah, uh, why?"
Nick briefly glanced at Hank before turning back to Monroe. "We're working on a case. We've got two dead bodies and both of them ate at the Raven and Rose in the last few days."
"Do you know Ned Closterman or Stephanie Roberts?" Hank asked Monroe.
"Ned, I do. Why?"
"They were the two victims." Nick told him. Monroe looked shocked. "Is Ned a blutbad?"
"Yeah, yeah, he's sort of one of my old hunting buddies, you know from…Oh my god." Monroe said, sitting down as he looked helplessly at Rosalee.
"What about Stephanie Roberts?" Hank asked.
"Um, I don't know. I don't know her."
Nick looked at Hank. "Well, at least two of the three were blutbaden."
Hank looked at Monroe. "Monroe, we're going to need Sam's licence plate. We're going to have to put out an APB out on his car."
"Uh, right, ok." Monroe said, getting up and returning to call Kimbar back.
Rosalee approached Nick. "What's going on?"
"The restaurant is run by bauerschwein." Nick said, glancing around at the rest of them. "Now, we think they are somehow targeting blutbaden."
Right on cue, Bud started to freak out. "Oh god, oh god, this is really bad. Bauerschwein going after blutbaden. I mean, isn't it sort of the other way round?"
"You'd be surprised." Nick told him.
"I'll, I'll put the cake in the fridge." Bud said, picking the cake up and moving towards the kitchen.
Nick ran his hand over his mouth, while Juliette looked at Rosalee. "Rosalee, you said you and Monroe ate there, what did he eat?"
Rosalee considered it. "I..I don't remember."
Monroe returned, handing a piece of paper over to Hank. "Here's the licence plate."
"Thanks." Hank said before moving off to make a phone call.
Nick eyed Monroe. "Do you feel ok?"
"Yeah. F-fine but should I not?"
"How did they die?" Rosalee asked Nick.
"It's something similar to gastric dilatation volvulus, basically their insides burst." Juliette explained. Lorelei screwed her nose up a little.
"That sounds familiar, I have to get to the spice shop." Rosalee said, hanging towards the door.
"Hang on, I'll come with you." Lorelei said, following her.
The others also followed them down to the spice shop and Rosalee was able to quickly find what she was looking for. "I knew I knew it." Rosalee said, placing the book on the table. "It's called Völlige Verzweiflung in German, the black despair mushroom. It's found mostly in the Black Forest and is similar to a rare strain of fungus called ophiocordyceps unilateralis from the tropics, which attacks carpenter ants causing them to climb into trees where their insides burst, spreading the fungal spores. When eaten raw the mushrooms are harmless, but when cooked they release a toxin fatal to blutbaden." She finished off quietly, directing her gaze up at Monroe, who hands dropped to his stomach as he looked distressed.
"What's wrong?" Lorelei asked him.
"I'm trying to remember if I had any mushrooms at Raven and Rose. Did I?" He asked, looking to Rosalee.
"I don't know, the…those could have been in anything." She replied.
"We checked what the victims had to eat. They had completely different things." Nick said.
"Is Sam's girlfriend a blutbad?" Juliette asked Monroe.
"Uh uh." Monroe replied. "She's kehrseite-schlich-kennen, like you and Hank. She's not a wesen but she knows…"
"Wait, woah." Rosalee interrupted. "The tartlets."
"What tartlets?" Hank asked.
"The beef and truffle tartlets. They weren't on the menu; they were compliments of the chef. Everyone got one." She said, a look of relief crossing her face as she looked to Monroe. "Except you didn't eat it."
"Well, no, it had meat." Monroe said, as Hank's phone rang.
Nick nodded. "Well, that's how he does it. Serves it everybody. Only the blutbaden are infected." He said, as Hank answered the phone.
Sam's car had been found, although Sam was not with the car. Hank, Nick and Monroe headed off to search for Sam, while the woman stayed behind. Lorelei felt frustrated, she wanted to help look for Monroe's friend. However, she wasn't sure what they would find, and it wasn't the best idea for her to go traipsing through the woods at night. Sean would not be happy if she were to place herself into a potentially dangerous situation. It didn't mean Lorelei had to like it though.
Juliette dropped Lorelei back home after they found out that Sam had been found, although it hadn't ended well. There wasn't much else that they could do. It was all in Nick and Hank's hands as cops. Although Lorelei was unsure what they could do. Serving that fungus wasn't illegal. As she was getting ready for bed, Lorelei got a message from Nick, letting her know that the bauerschwein had been dealt with. They had basically threatened a confession out of the guy. At least they had stopped him and gotten some justice for Monroe's friends.
Lorelei also received a message from Sean, seeing if she at home. She confirmed she was, and he was free to come over. Sean let her know he had some things to finish up and that he would be there soon. Lorelei settled down in bed, one of her textbooks in hand. The end of the year was fast approaching, however there was still work to be done and assignments to complete before finals. However, after five or so minutes Lorelei set it aside. She just couldn't focus and the headache she was developing didn't help. Instead, her thoughts turned to her handsome soulmate. After having a couple of days to think about it, Lorelei had decided for sure that she would accept Sean's offer to move in together. It just made sense. Lorelei was hoping Sean would arrive before she fell asleep so that she could tell him.
Thankfully, she was still awake when he did arrive. "Hi. Surprised your still awake." He commented, bending down to kiss her before he started getting ready for bed.
"Mmm, yeah. Me too, but I'm wide awake."
"I guess the party didn't last too long." He commented, draping his suit jacket over the chair in the corner before he worked on stripping his shirt off.
"No. Unfortunately not." She confirmed, her eyes raking up and down his bare back as he sat down on his side of the bed to remove his shoes and then pants, leaving him in just boxers.
"At least Nick and Hank managed to get a confession out of the guy. I hope you weren't involved in that." Sean said, turning to give her a look.
Lorelei shook her head. "Nope. None of us ladies were, we left it up to the menfolk." She said, her eyes trailing up and down his body before coming to rest on his face.
A smirk crossed Sean's face. "See something you like?"
Lorelei returned the smirk. "I see a lot I like."
Smirk still in place, Sean crawled across the bed as Lorelei laid back against the pillows. Sean hovered over her, his arms caging her in. "Oh really?" He said, lips brushing against her own.
Lorelei slid her arms around his neck. "Uh huh. I can't wait to wake up to it every morning." She told him, straining her neck slightly to meet his lips gently.
Sean paused, moving his head away from her slightly. She pouted. "You've made a decision?" He asked, looking hopeful.
Lorelei nodded. "I have. I'd love to move in with you Sean."
Sean smiled down at her, that smile she had only ever seen directed at her. He gave her a quick kissed before pulling away again. "I'm happy to hear that. When did you want to do this?"
"I've got finals coming up soon. But the best part about living in the same building is that I can start moving things in over the next few weeks. I don't have a lot of stuff. I should be moved in before the end of semester." She told him.
Sean smiled again before capturing her lips in a gentle kiss that quickly heated up. Lorelei's arms shift, winding around Sean's chest, allowing her hands to trail over his back. Eventually, Lorelei's pyjamas were on the floor and the two were celebrating the next step of the relationship beneath the covers.
A/N: Sorry, there was no actual spicy scene. I promise we will see another one soon. Especially as our favourite couple will soon be living together.
