Both Perry and Della agreed to go out to dinner tonight since it was past lunchtime. They decided on Italian, and they were fine with that.
"What did you talk with Jeffrey Taylor about?" Della asked.
"Just about my mother and Dad's cases. Mostly him, actually. Looks like Jeffrey gave us more ideas about his cases. They both want me to work on this one, but I don't know if I'm ready to get another one done for him."
"I understand, Perry, that you're trying your best to keep Ada's promise by not working on them anymore. They're old and longshots."
"In this recent one, we all got to learn more about his cases when he was new."
Della agreed.
"Yes, we did. Why didn't he and Ada tell you all the stuff instead of us finding out for ourselves?" Della asked.
"I don't know. I guess they probably thought I was too young back then to understand. That's also probably why I waited until a couple months after his murder happened."
"What kind of case do Jeffrey and June want us to work on next?"
"Something to do with a principal in a high school that was murdered. Do we have that file, Della? I am not going to bother Paul because of vacation time. This is where Cindy comes in."
"She says that she wants to know us a little bit better, Perry. That's what she told me when we were at your mother's house going through more case files from what your father left behind."
"I'd still like both of you to do that now and see what you can find about a high school principal murdered in her office."
"We'll keep trying. We both feel bad for you since both of them are gone now to follow more of your cases and see what his reaction would have been if he was here and hear about taking over his cases to get it done for him."
"I keep thinking the same thing and my mother asked that too. I asked what case he had that was well – known, and I was told it was the last one I had with the lost child and the retail store shooting."
"Really?"
"Yes, Della. Really. I'll go call Cindy at her place and see if she could meet you at my mother's house."
"I thought you could do that."
"Yes, but I want you to work with Cindy more and see what can get done."
Della understood that. No complaining to him.
"We'll see what we can come up with on that file, Perry. What are you going to do?" Della asked.
"Not sure. Maybe go out to lunch or whatever," he answered, calling Cindy.
"Hi, Cindy," Perry said when she answered the phone.
"Hi, Perry. Do you have something for me today?"
"Yes, I do. Remember when you and Della were at my mother's house looking for that file of a murder in a high school principal's office?"
"Yes, I do. Is that what you want me to do now?"
"Yes, Cindy. She's on her way over there now."
"Thank you for letting me know."
"If you still can't find it, just keep going."
"We'll see what we can do."
"You don't need to call when you're finished, Cindy. Will talk with you later."
"All right."
"She's meeting you at the house, Della."
"I'll leave now then."
"I told her there's no reason to call when you're finished. All you both can do is just come back here and put it on the desk."
"All right. We'll be leaving then, Perry. See you later."
Since Perry finally was able to drive a car again, he didn't need either Della or Paul to do more transportation for him. The car belonged to his mother, Ada, who recently passed away after the last case was solved. His doctor was able to find something, but her own doctor couldn't be able to help either, and she was able to die without suffering. It was a good she wasn't murdered like his father.
Now the only thing Perry had to do was figure out the price of the house he wants to ask for since Ada and George aren't here anymore. She moved in with him because of the murder of his father.
Since Perry was able to drive again after the car accident he was involved in, he was able to go out to lunch since it was almost noon. Let Della and Cindy decide what they want to do about lunch.
Glad he was able to give Paul some time off, which they all need. Paul appreciated the month off from what Perry had given him, but they could still tell him what they were working on, but don't need him because of Cindy.
So far, so good on taking it slow with Cindy McCarey.
