Lana and Lola were making their way down the castle corridor, their excitement building as they prepared to face their next challenge. The grand doors of the castle seemed to hum with anticipation, and the distant glow of a painting caught their attention.
"There it is," Lola said, pointing toward the painting ahead. "That has to be our next world."
But just as they approached, something strange began to happen. The painting shimmered, the image shifting and distorting until it was no longer the tranquil landscape they had expected. Instead, the face of Morag appeared, her sinister eyes gleaming with malice.
"Uh-oh," Lana muttered, taking a step back. Before either of them could react further, the ground beneath their feet gave way. A trapdoor snapped open, and the twins plunged downward, screaming as they fell into the unknown.
They landed on a hard, winding path suspended in a cavernous void. Shadows swirled around them, and the air felt thick with danger. As they scrambled to their feet, they took in their surroundings. The path stretched out before them, narrow and twisting, seemingly floating in an endless abyss.
"Where are we?" Lola gasped, dusting herself off.
Lana narrowed her eyes. "I think Morag set this up. It's a trap."
"But there's no turning back now," Lola said, glancing behind them. The path had already crumbled into nothingness.
Determined, the twins pressed forward. The first section was straightforward, though unnerving. A green block jutted out from the ground, but flames shot out from a nearby flamethrower, forcing them to time their movements carefully. They dodged and sprinted past it, only to find themselves on a pair of moving square platforms that shifted back and forth between tall stone pillars.
"Careful!" Lana warned, gripping the edge of the platform as they were carried upward.
The stone platform ahead split into two routes—one blue and steep, the other stone but longer, with coins scattered along it.
"I'll take the longer route," Lola decided. "It looks easier."
"Just watch out for that flamethrower!" Lana called out.
Lola raced along the stone path, but as she turned a corner, a burst of flame shot out from the wall. She skidded to a halt, narrowly avoiding being singed. She waited for the flamethrower to stop before sprinting past and meeting Lana at the end of the path.
"That was close," Lola muttered, wiping the sweat from her brow.
The next area was more precarious. A wooden octagonal platform spun slowly in the middle of the void, with three Goombas waiting for them, the twins leaped into action. Lola punched a Goomba off the platform while Lana kicked another into the abyss. The third Goomba made a break for it, but Lola caught it with a well-placed jump kick.
"Nice one," Lana praised, already looking ahead.
A narrow wooden bridge led them to a path made from green stone, where six unbreakable crystals stood in their way. Four of the crystals were circled by Amps, their electric fields crackling ominously as they spun around.
"Timing is everything here," Lana said, watching the Amps carefully.
They weaved through the crystals, avoiding the Amps with quick, precise movements. Once they cleared the obstacle, they found themselves facing a large stone cube. A yellow block slid in and out of it at regular intervals, and another yellow block floated above it, containing three coins.
"We can use that to jump higher," Lola said, nodding toward the floating block.
With perfect timing, they jumped onto the sliding yellow block, and then Lana propelled herself up to grab the coins, all while dodging the moving block beneath them. Once they collected the coins, they pressed onward, hopping onto another pair of moving square platforms that carried them to the final section.
The platform they landed on contained a lone Goomba, which Lola quickly dispatched. To their left was a narrow, treacherous path leading to a large circular platform with coins and an Amp circling its center. To the right were two turquoise seesaws, teetering dangerously over the edge of the void.
"Seesaws it is," Lana said, pointing toward them.
The twins balanced themselves carefully as they crossed the seesaws, the platforms tilting wildly under their weight. On the other side, they were met by two more Goombas standing guard on a stone block. Lola took care of them with a swift punch, while Lana continued ahead, climbing up a series of stone platforms.
At the top of the platforms was a Purple Switch embedded into the stone wall. Lana slammed her fist down on it, and with a low rumble, a staircase unfolded before them, leading to a warp pipe.
"This has to lead to Morag," Lola said, her voice tense with anticipation.
Lana nodded, her hand gripping Lola's tightly. "We're ready."
Together, they climbed the stone staircase and stepped into the warp pipe. The familiar sound of rushing air surrounded them as they were transported through the void. When they emerged on the other side, they found themselves standing in a dark, eerie chamber. The walls were lined with cracked mirrors, and the floor was littered with shards of glass that seemed to shimmer under the faint light.
But what caught their attention most was the figure standing at the center of the room. It was a Morag, She looks distorted and twisted. Her eyes glowed red, and her voice, though familiar, had a sinister edge to it.
"So, you've made it this far," Morag hissed, her voice echoing off the walls. "But you'll never save your beloved big brother. I'll make sure of it.""
Lana clenched her fists, her face twisted in anger. "Why are you doing this? What does Lincoln have to do with any of this?"
Morag smirked, her red eyes glinting with malice. "Your chaotic family ruined my peace and quiet last year. Lincoln humiliated me in my own homeland, and now, I'm going to make sure he and everyone he loves suffers for it. This is my revenge."
Before the twins could react, Morag raised her hands, the starstone in her grasp glowing ominously. "Enough talking," she spat. "You won't leave here alive."
Suddenly, the ground trembled beneath their feet. From the shadows, a massive figure emerged—a dark, twisted version of Lela the dragon, but without her usual wings. Her eyes burned with hatred, her body flickering as if made of smoke and shadow.
"Meet my dragon," Morag sneered. "Lela may be wingless for this fight, but she's just as deadly."
With a roar that echoed through the chamber, Lela opened her mouth and unleashed a torrent of flames. A stream of fire shot across the room, creating a huge patch of flame that spread rapidly, sending sparks into the air. As the sparks landed, they burst into smaller fireballs, scattering across the arena and forcing Lana and Lola to dodge frantically to avoid getting burned.
"Watch out!" Lola shouted, narrowly missing a fireball that exploded at her feet.
The twins quickly realized that standing still was not an option. Lela's attacks were relentless, and the heat was becoming unbearable. The dragon's massive claws slammed into the ground, shaking the entire platform. Lana and Lola leaped into the air just in time to avoid being stunned by the tremors.
"We need a plan," Lana called out, her eyes scanning the room for any possible advantage. "We can't keep dodging forever!"
Lola nodded, her mind racing. "The spikes!" she shouted, pointing to the large spiked orbs stationed at each corner of the arena. "If we can grab Lela by the tail and swing her into them, maybe we can take her down!"
"But how do we get close enough without being burned alive?" Lana asked, ducking as Lela's tail swiped through the air above her.
Lola's gaze sharpened. "We'll have to distract her. I'll bait her—get her attention. You sneak behind and grab her tail. Then we'll swing her together."
Lana hesitated for only a moment before nodding in agreement. "Got it. Let's do this."
Lola sprinted forward, waving her arms wildly to get Lela's attention. "Hey, over here! Come and get me, you overgrown lizard!"
The dragon snarled and turned her fiery gaze toward Lola, her massive jaws snapping in anger. Lela lunged, but Lola was quick, darting to the side and forcing the dragon to follow her movements. Lana took the opportunity and crept behind the distracted beast.
Once she was in position, Lana gave Lola a quick nod. Lola made a sharp turn, running toward the far end of the platform. Lela growled, about to chase her, but before she could, Lana grabbed hold of the dragon's thick tail with all her strength.
"Now!" Lana yelled.
Lola dashed back to her sister's side, and together, they began to spin, using their combined strength to twirl Lela around. The dragon roared in surprise as her body lifted off the ground, the twins gaining momentum with each rotation.
With a final burst of strength, Lana and Lola hurled Lela toward one of the spiked orbs. The dragon slammed into it with a deafening crash, and a pulse of energy erupted from the impact. Lela let out a furious roar, her form flickering as if it were about to disappear—but not yet.
"One down," Lana panted, wiping sweat from her brow.
"We've got to do it two more times," Lola reminded her, already moving to avoid another fiery breath from Lela. The dragon, though visibly weakened, wasn't giving up easily.
The twins repeated their strategy, this time with even more precision. Lola distracted Lela again, weaving through fireballs and dodging claw swipes, while Lana snuck up from behind. They grabbed the dragon's tail and spun her into another spiked orb. Lela crashed into it with even more force, her body glitching and distorting from the impact.
"One more!" Lola shouted, determination blazing in her eyes.
Lela was clearly on her last legs. The dragon's shadowy form was flickering more frequently, and her movements had become slower, more desperate. The twins didn't let up. Once more, they grabbed hold of her tail and swung her into the final spiked orb.
With a final, guttural roar, Lela exploded into a cloud of smoke and shadows, vanishing from the arena. The room was suddenly still.
Morag stood at the edge of the platform, her face twisted with fury. "You may have defeated my pet, but this is far from over," she hissed. "You'll never defeat me, and you'll never save Lincoln."
Before the twins could respond, Morag disappeared in a swirl of darkness, leaving behind a large, glowing key—the Big Key to the Loud Loch Castle's basement.
Lola and Lana exchanged a look of triumph as they picked up the key.
"We did it," Lana said, her voice filled with relief.
"But we're not done yet," Lola reminded her. "We still have a long way to go."
As they were warped back to Loch Loud Castle, Angus was waiting for them at the entrance. "I'm glad ye two made it back safe," he said, his voice warm with relief. "I was worried when ye didn't return right away."
Lola nodded, grinning. "We sure did."
Angus chuckled. "Well, I'll be. That's impressive, lassies. But you should rest now. Ye've earned it."
The twins nodded in agreement. They were exhausted from the battle, and the thought of a good night's sleep sounded like the best reward.
As they headed to their rooms, Lola glanced at her sister. "We're getting closer, aren't we?"
Lana smiled tiredly. "Yeah. We are."
With that, they closed the doors to their rooms, ready to rest and prepare for the next day.
As they were warped back to Loch Loud Castle, Angus was waiting for them at the entrance. "I'm glad ye two made it back safe," he said, his voice warm with relief. "I was worried when ye didn't return right away."
Lana and Lola exchanged a tired but triumphant look before holding up the large, glowing key they had retrieved from Morag's lair.
"We got it, Angus," Lola said, smiling. "The Big Key to the basement."
"And we had to go through a lot to get it," Lana added, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "Morag sent us into a trap world, and she used a… a fake version of Lela the dragon to try and stop us."
Angus's eyes widened in shock. "A fake Lela?" he repeated, taking a step back. "And this was all Morag's doing?"
Lola nodded, frowning. "She used a powerful stone. It let her create that twisted version of Lela. Morag summoned it out of nowhere just to slow us down."
At this, Angus's expression grew even more troubled. "The stone ye describe—it must be the Starstone. Morag took it…?"
Lana and Lola glanced at each other in confusion, then looked back at him. "The Starstone?" Lana asked.
"Aye, the Starstone," Angus replied gravely. "It's an ancient artifact, capable of summoning anything the user can imagine. But here's the catch—it can only be used in another dimension, away from Earth."
The twins were silent for a moment, processing this information. Finally, Lola broke the silence. "So that's how she could summon a version of Lela and set all those traps. But Angus, how did you know about the Starstone and the other worlds we have been to?"
Angus's face softened, a hint of nostalgia appearing in his eyes. "Ah, it's an old tale," he began. "When I started working at Loch Loud Castle, I stumbled upon a truly ancient book hidden away in the castle library. It was dusty and half-falling apart, but when I opened it, I realized it was no ordinary book. It was written by Lanasha and Lolanda. in their spare time, they would go on adventures, and they documented every strange world they encountered. They were the ones who named those worlds and even discovered the powers of the Starstone."
Lola's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Wow, That why we were so good with our times in those worlds, Their skills run through our blood"
Lana frowned. "So Morag's not just messing around. She's using this Starstone to get revenge on us. She must've read the book too."
Angus nodded solemnly. "It's possible. And with the Starstone, she's got power beyond what anyone should have. I suspect that's why she's hidden all the Power Stars across different worlds—they're meant to protect the castle, and with them scattered, it's vulnerable."
Lola clenched her fists, a determined look in her eyes. "Then we have to get those Power Stars back. Morag's not going to stop until she find a way to use the starstone in our world and destroy everything we care about."
"That's the spirit, lass," Angus said, his voice full of pride. "Morag will do everything possible to slow ye down."
Lana nodded. "We understand, Angus. We'll be ready for whatever she throws at us."
Angus gave them a proud smile. "I know ye will. Now, why don't ye two rests? Ye've had a long day, and tomorrow is bound to be just as challenging."
The twins nodded, their adrenaline finally waning as they realized just how tired they were from the intense battles they'd faced. "Good idea, Angus," Lola said with a yawn.
With Angus's encouragement, Lana and Lola made their way back to their room. The warmth and familiarity of the castle halls gave them a comforting sense of relief as they walked. They knew that they were far from finished, but for now, the soft beds waiting for them felt like victory enough.
The twins barely had time to get under the covers before sleep overtook them, carrying them into a deep, dreamless rest.
