Chapter 5: "Storms"
It was late at night as we see it storming in the sky. Two shadows move and drum in the clouds in tandem to the lightning and thunder. Lightning strikes out over the skies of Jump City, with Titans Tower standing tall in the bay.
Jinx held a water balloon and had set up a slingshot system with Raven standing beside her.
"Please tell me this isn't another ridiculous prank", Raven says to the pinkette.
"Okay. It's not a ridiculous prank", Jinx tells her, "It's an awesome one. Ha!", causing Raven to roll her eyes, "Check it out. Remember when Cy put green dye in my shampoo and my hair looked like shit for two days? Well, sister, it's payback time", she gestures to her setup, "I give you the Insta-Lube 9000. See, when chrome-dome steps into the trip wire when rounding the corner, it will trigger the release of this super rubber band and launch this balloon over motor oil right at him", Jinx explains her plan.
"What genius", Raven says with sarcasm.
"It's just a little good clean fun", Jinx waves off, "Nothing dangerous that will hurt anyone. I'm not a psychopath", before hearing a sound down the hall, "Hear he comes!", she grabs Raven and hides them around another corner.
"I do not think-", Raven goes before Jinx shushes her, "But what about-", "Shh".
"Why are we hiding?", a male voice whispers behind them.
"Shh", Jinx shushes before she recognizes the voice and looks behind her and Raven to see Cyborg, "What the- If you're you, then who's...?", before looking back down the hall.
A purple boot trips the wire and the sling begins to launch.
"NOOO!", Jinx yells out in horror, running out to stop it.
"Eeep!", Starfire cries out before catching the balloon, "Jinx? Why did you launch this at me? Did I do something wrong?", she asks the gothic witch.
"You didn't. She did", Raven says to her.
"Sorry, Star", Jinx apologizes, "It was meant for Cyborg for the hair dye incident".
Such things are frowned upon my planet", Starfire shares.
"What? They can't take a joke?", Cyborg asks before lighting and thunder strikes outside the tower, shaking the building.
"Titans! Trouble!", Red-X says as he arrives in the hall in search of them
On The Jump City Bay Bridge
Lightning strikes around the bridge as the vehicles pass on by before a massive strike hits the middle of the bridge, causing a Semi-truck to skid to a stop and block the road as other cars stop on its right side.
The smoke from the lightning strike settles to show to figures.
One was grey skinned with a ape like face with a helmet on his head and wore black and blue ancient chinese armor with a cloud symbol on his chest.
The other was yellow skinned with with spiky yellow hair with a red crown like helmet with his hair exposed and wore red and yellow armor with a yellow lightning bolt on his chest.
they look to each other and smiled.
"May we have fun here, brother?", the grey skinned one asks the other one in a deep voice.
"Of course", the yellow one declares with a shrill voice, "We are Thunder and Lightning. We can do whatever we please", as he plays with electricity in his hands before throwing it up the bridge wires, "Look, brother! I command the sparks to dance! Yehahaha!", as sparks fly form the bridge wires.
"Amusing", Thunder smiles as the sparks rain down on them, "Now listen as I make music", and claps his hands, releasing a seismic blast, shaking the bridge and ripping away its wires.
Lightning blasts some electricity into the semi-truck trailer and leaves a lightning bolt symbol on its side
"Let all who pass this way know Lightning was here!", Lightning cheers.
"And Thunder too!", Thunder claims before smashing his fists together, sending nearby vehicles up into the air by a foot or two, causing their alarms to go off as the civilians run away.
The elemental brothers laugh as they have fun.
"Most amusing", Lightning says as Thunder places his arm over his brother's shoulder
"Hate to break it to ya", they hear and turn to see the Titans standing on the Semi-Truck, "But you guys have a lousy sense of humor if you have to break stuff like a toddler. Stop this now".
"No one gives orders to Thunder and Lighting", Lighting responds to the demand before summoning a yellow ball of electric energy, "Taste my power!", and he throws the ball.
All the Titans jump away from the trailer top before Starfire flies in with her Starbolts in hand, firing them at Lighting. Lightning jumps away before running along the empty cars left on the bridge as he firees bolts of lightning at her. Starfire starts running along the cars as well as she fires over Starbeams at him. Lightning hit sht car she's going to, causing her to jump over and leaving him to blast her off the bridge.
Cyborg charges Thunder with a right hook, with Thunder dodging. Thunder throws a punch but Cyborg catches it before throwing his own only of rit to get caught as well, leaving the two bigger men in a stand still. Thunder brings his other hand back and punches with his power behind it while Cyborg brought his hand back in its blaster mode and clashes with the empowered fist.
This causes a domed energy blast to happen and send the two flying back. Cyborg roughly land son his back but Thunder lands a cloud before flying forward.
"Ragh!", Thunder yells out as he sends a blast at Red-X who flips away.
He fires another thunder beam which Red-X dodges again along the bridge's railings. He jumps over the next beam towards Thunder and slips over his head before wrapping his hands around and flipping him off the cloud.
Lightning launches some blasts at Raven who easily dodges in the sky before she launches a series of flying kicks with her legs at him, causing Lightning to block them all for the safety of his face. Lightning angrily fires a bolt at her chest, sending Raven flying back down the bridge.
Jinx comes up from behind and hits him with a hex energy punch to his spine, causing him to back hand her with a lightning based backhand.
"Hahaha! Your powers are strong, but mine are stronger!", Lightning claims.
Thunder stands to fight Red-X again with the thunder energy coating his hands, "Your strength is impressive, for a human. Let's continue our battle!".
"Why are you doing this?", Red-X asks him.
"Because it's not sporting to just fight an opponent", Thunder replies.
"No, I mean, why are you wrecking everything?", Red-X clarifies.
Thunder looks around confused, "Uh, because... it is amusing?", sounding unsure.
"Do they look amused?", Red-X asks him, gesturing to the remain civilians on the bridge, looking at them in fear from behind cars and
"I-", Thunder goes to say but Red-X continues.
"This isn't funny, it's wrong", Red-X declares, causing Thunder to release the energy from his hands, only for yellow lighting to strike from behind Thunder and knock Red-X back, shocking Thunder.
"Ah the thrill of victory", Lighting smiles as he now stands next to his depressed brother, "Come brother", he hugs Thunder, who regains a smile, "We shall seek more amusement", before flying away in a streak of lightning with Thunder following on a cloud.
Red-X recovers as he stands up, "Could thing I had rubber insulating just in case", he grumbles as Starfire flies by him and they convene with the other three, "Okay team, we have to find those guys before they can do anymore damage. Cyborg, search the west side. Jinx, the east. I'll take down town. Raven and Starfire, you two take the skies".
"Right", they all nod and split up.
Elsewhere in Jump City.
In front of a tall building with a pool fountain with two-story stone slabs on either side and a stone statue globe right before the building, Thunder and Lighting land in a bolt lighting in a showy fashion like on the bridge within the fountain.
"Magnificent", Lightning exclaims in joy, "We can make much misfit here", he says to his brother as he coats his hands in lightning before firing it at the globe and breaking the small pillar to was standing on, causing it to fall off and roll down the steps from the building and striking one of the slabs which caused all to fall over like dominoes.
Thunder looks around with shame on his face.
"Brother, did you see what I-", Lightning goes to say before seeing his brother's face and losing his own smile, "Something... troubles you?", he asks his brother with worry.
"The red and black one's words...", Thunder says, "He's says our fun is... wrong", looking down in shame.
Lightning laughs, "Hahahaha! Wrong?", he hugs his brother's shoulders, "He speaks nonsense, brother", he gestures to the damage, "How can such amusement be wrong? The fun is only beginning", bringing a smile to Thunder's face once more before they leave.
Later
Flying through the air with Raven, Starfire soon sees the destruction and they fly down to inspect it.
"Either they were just here, or this is some ugly modern art", Raven says in monotone.
Starfire goes up to where the globe was, "These... pranks of theirs are most immature and harmful, more so than Jinx and Cyborg. This is not fun".
"Wrong you are, orange one", Lighting says as he and his brother fire thunder and lighting beams down at them.
Thunder lands and chases Starfire who runs towards the building before running up the wall and flipping over him before firing a Starbeam at him, who dodges.
Lightning fires some bolts at Raven, who dodges like on the bridge before protaling right in front of him and palm striking his face, sending him flying back.
Starfire and Thunder both fire beams at each other and enter a clash, with Starfire's being smaller in size but piercing through Thunder's and hitting him, sending him flying back into the small pillar remains.
Raven soon summons a giant raven projection of her magic after Thunder, who crawls away.
Starfire blocks a stream of lightning from Lightning with her own Starbeam in another clash as Thunder fights off the astral animal.
Red-X soon arrives on the scene and kicks Thunder away, "Detain Lightning!", he orders to Raven, who joins Starfire.
Red-X rushes Thunder against the wall and grabs his tunic, "I don't want to hurt you, and I think you don't want to hurt me".
"Pain does not amuse us", Thunder claims.
"Could have fooled me", Red-X remarks, "Keep playing around like this and innocent people will get hurt".
In the shadows, an elderly man with an old school chinese facial hair and black and red robes with a straw hat appears in the shadows in a puff of smoke. He smiles as he brings out a smile wooden box that sits on a tripod and spins the lever gear before the front comes off and a massive red beam is fired from it.
Red-X and Thunder look on in shock as it flies by and smashes the other slabs near Lightning and the girls. Lightning runs about of the way but Starfire and Raven are left undefended as debri falls on them.
"Star! Raven!", Red-X cries out and rushes over to check on them.
Thunder and Lightning stand together as they look on the scene with wide-eyes before they hear a voice.
"Your gifts are your own", the voice says, "Who are they to tell you how to use them?", as the brothers look around for the voice.
"And who are you that commands such power?", Lightning demands, "Show yourself!".
"As you wish", the man says as he comes out from the smoke before them, "I am but a humble old man...", having discarded the device in the debri, "Whose power is drawn from nature, like your own. Come with me, and sow as much destruction as you please", he dramatically turns away.
"Yes! More fun!", Lightning says to his brother, drawing a smirk from the old man.
Thunder glasps his brother's shoulder, "Will we harm anyone?", he asks in worry.
"What?!", Lightning asks incredulously, shrugging his brother's hand off, "The black one has poisoned your mind", poking his brother's head.
"This.. destruction... will we harm the innocent?", Thunder asks the old man.
The old man looks to them, "Would it matter if you did?", he asks in turn, "You are unique. Gifted. Better. Why should anything interfere with your enjoyment?", he smiles before getting serious, "I am going, Follow... if you wish", and he walks away.
"Come brother", Lightning follows him, "And leave your foolish thoughts behind".
Thunder looks to the rubble the Titans disappeared under before following after his brother.
Not long after, the rubble rises as Starfire lifts it off with Raven having shielded them and Red-X from view.
"We need to get those brothers away from that man", Red-X says.
Later, Near Dawn In The Woods
The old man stands in the field with training dummies with strange markings surrounding him.
"Sticks and leaves?!", Lightning asks in confusion, "Is this a joke?! There is no fun in blasting such frail targets!"
"Are you certain, young master?", the old man asks, "Try. You may like what you see", gesturing to one by him.
Lightning grunts before firing a bolt at it and it bursts into flames, bringing a smile to his face.
"Dancing lights! Pleasing!", Lightning cheers.
"Let Thunder try his hand", Thunder approaches one and fires his own beam at another, causing it to explode in a fiery boom, "What wondrous noise!"
"See brother! There is no harm in our fun!", Lightning tells him
"And there is so much fun to be had", the old man tells them.
The brothers smile at each other before they fly around and blast each dummy, leaving them in flames, one by one.
"More targets old one!", Lightning exclaims in excitement.
"Yes, more", Thunder agrees with a smile.
"That won't be necessary", the old man tells them, "You've done quite enough", ebfore pulling out a talisman and throws it into the air absorbing energy from the area before lighting up the area with energy in the shape of a humanoid being, "Rise", the old man commands and the fire rises into a being of fire, the ultimate fire demon, "Burn, fire, burn it all!", leaving the brothers horrified.
The fire being looks to the city only for the Titans to be at the cliff edge before it.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you, "Play with fire, you're going to get burned"?", Red-X snarks
The Ultimate Fire Demon swipes at the teen heroes who jump out of the way to dodge the fire wave. Red-X sees the UFD move through the trees for the city, starting forest fire in the process.
"Good. Very good", the old man says with a smile, holding a staff that looks like it had a golden 5 on the top of it.
The storm brother's look to each other.
"Brother, what have we done?", Thunder dramatically asks Lightning.
The Titans give chase to the skeletal fire demon with Red-X yelling out, "Titans, Go!", as he throws out smoke bombs to obscure its visual.
"Flames cannot spread if there's nothing to burn", Raven remarks, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos", removing the trees around the area, roots and all.
"Jinx, Starfire, Help her out", Red-X calls out.
Jinx slams her hand to the ground with a hex, causing rows of nearby trees to fall down with their roots while Starfire uses her Starbolts to blow trees away.
Cyborg comes from the front of the UFD and uses his cannon on the ground to kick p a ton of dirt onto the fire being to snuff out the flames.
"Is he out?", Jinx asks as the Titans stop to look at the dust cloud.
Only for the fire demon to roar as it exits the dust cloud.
"You had to ask", Raven snarks at her.
Red-X looks and sees the old man over the shoulder of the fire being on the cliff smiling down on them, his eyes narrow in anger.
"Go, young masters", the old man says to Thunder and Lightning, "Fire is your creation. They have no right to destroy your fun".
Lightning smiles, "Yes, we must fight".
"But brother-", Thunder goes.
Lightning rounds on him, "Do not annoy me with your foolish concerns. Come", he smiles in good nature to his brother and they then vanish in a show of lightning.
"Hah", the old man goes to with a smile only for Red-X to come at him with a drop kick. The old man blocks with his staff, causing said staff to fly from his hands and land between the teen and old man.
The old man holds his hand out and the staff flies back to it.
"Red-X", the old man says in recognition and a smile, "We meet at last"
"Who are you?", Red-X demands, "The drunken master gone rogue?"
The old man rushes him which Red-X returns.
Further down the mountains, Raven chants again at the fire demon, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!", and launches a massive black and white beam at the being, snuffing at its fire before it rights itself and reignites, seemingly smiling at Raven. It then releases a orb blast from itself in all directions, blowing Raven and the environment away.
The brothers then arrive as Lightning saps Cyborg.
"Stand aside pink one", THunder demands of Jinx, "I do not wish to harm you".
"But you want to destroy homes and innocent lives?", Jinx asks in anger.
"No...", Thunder relents.
"Then what are you fighting for?", Jinx asks him again.
"My brother and I... the old one says we are unique, gifted, better", Thunder shares.
"Gifts don't make you better!", Jinx denies, "Just different. It's how you use them that matter".
Lightning stands over a downed Starfire, "It seems your power has limit while mine has none", and he goes to fry her, only to be blasted away by Thunder.
Thunder soon stands before his brother as the other Titans look on in confusion.
"You betray me?", Lightning growls at Thunder.
"We have done wrong, my brother", Thunder declares as he steps towards Lightning, "Our fun must stop".
"No one commands Lightning", Lightning claims as he summons lightning to his hands, "Not even Thunder", and fires at his brother, blasting him back.
Red-X was dodging strikes from old man with his staff, even blocking with his armored gauntlets before being backed into a tree. The old man goes for a stabbing strike and Red-X dodges, leaving the staff lodged in the tree.
The other Titans notice where the UFD was heading.
"If those houses go, the whole city will follow", Cyborg claims, "We got to stop the fire".
"How?", Raven asks him.
"Any way we can", he declares before they rush after the demon.
With the brothers, Lightning flies forward and blasts his brother again, sending Thunder flying into a rock face.
Thunder lays before his brother who aims to fire another attack on him.
"Tell me, Brother", Thunder goes, "Are we still having fun?"
Lightning grits his teeth before his eyes soften and the lightning leaves his hands, "No", he answers.
"Observe", Thunder tells him, pointing to the Fire Demon approaching the suburbs.
The Titans ran ahead of it and Jinx uses her powers to start the fire hydrants with Raven using her powers to guide it at the demon, along with Starfire and Cyborg.
"They also have gifts", Thunder tells his brother, "But they use them for good, while we waste ours on dangerous fun", he holds Lightning's shoulder, "If we are so special, Brother, let us act special. We must help".
Lightning looks away, "But how? Our gifts can only destroy".
"True", Thunder tells him before smiling, "But together we have another gift", and Lightning also smiles in turn before they vanish in lightning into the sky and enter the clouds above.
The Ultimate Fire Demon soon approaches the Titans and roars before it hears a drumming thunder in the air with dancing lightning. The storming brother's actions soon lead to it raining as the gaze down on the demon.
The demon cries out in pain and despair as the rain covers it as it then releases dark steam before it vaporizes to nothing.
The Titans cheer as the threat has ended.
Red-X on the other hand, is being one handed choked by the od man, till the rain reaches them and begins to put out the surrounding fires.
"Red-X", the old man utters in disdain, "Is that the best you can do?", only for lightning to hit his staff and separating the duo.
Red-X looks up to the injured old man to see an orange face plate peek out from the old man face, a mask under a mask.
"What the...?", Red-X gasps in confusion before the man disappears in a cloud of smoke, leaving behind the talisman that Red-X picks up, "Slade", he growls.
The others were still celebrating till they see the brothers walk up to them.
Thunder bows to them, "I am sorry for the trouble we have made".
He looks to his brother who was looking away with crossed arms till Thunder nodges him with his elbow.
"I am... also sorry", Lightning bows.
Thunder shakes Jinx's hand, "You all have taught us much, pink one. Thank you".
"You should thank Red-X, he got to your first", Jinx tells him, "Where is he by the way?"
Red-X comes from behind the trees, "Busy", he walks to before the brothers, "Thank you for your help defeating the flame monster", he bows as a sign of respect.
Much Later
The rain stops and the Titans overlook the rainbow that forms, with Titans Tower being at the end of it.
"So, Deathstroke wants to destroy the city", Cyborg summarizes, "Question is why?"
"I don't know", Red-X says to him, "But we'll find out. He won't get away with it", before they all head back home.
Chapter End
AN: I initially had trouble if I was going to do the original episode or alter it for the Wonder Twins but I can't find much on the twins in comics and such so I stayed with the original.
Next is based on Sum of his Parts which will be different due tot eh fact that Cyborg won't have the battery problem.
