Mirabel had managed to sneak into her room without being caught, with everyone out looking for Isabella after all. she was now sitting on her bed, experimenting with her powers. her hair and eyes were silver.

she focused as hard as she could, trying to lift a pebble she had brought inside.

she smiled when the pebble was clearly floating in the air. she didn't notice the white in her eyes beginning to be tinted silver.

"Mirabel?" someone said.

she squeaked, her hair turned black, her eyes turned hazel, the pebble fell down onto the bedside table, and a shock wave of wind launched out in all directions from Mirabel.

her head snapped in the direction of the voice, seeing Antonio standing in the now open doorway.

"are you okay?" Antonio questioned, his grip on the stuffed jaguar in his arms tightening.

"yeah I'm fine. what are you doing still here?" Mirabel asked.

"mama said I'm too young to go into the forest, even if I can talk to animals" Antonio replied.

"come here" Mirabel said, gesturing for him to sit next to her on the bed.

he walked over and sat next to her.

"what were you doing?" Antonio asked.

"I was just...practicing something" Mirabel replied.

"what?" Antonio questioned looking up at her.

Mirabel said nothing, trying to decide what to say.

"something to do with why I don't have a gift" she finally replied.

"what?" Antonio repeated.

"would you be excited to know someone else had the same power as you?" Mirabel asked him.

his eyes lit up.

"its not me, but I did meet someone earlier who does" she continued.

the light in his eyes only dimmed slightly.

"and you know what he taught me?" Mirabel said.

"what?" Antonio squeaked in reply, excitement in his voice.

"this" Mirabel said, her hair and eyes turning silver once more.

she reached her hand out to lift the pebble again, accidentally lifting the whole bedside table.

it dropped to the floor with a thud as Mirabel pulled her hand away.

"I only meant to lift the pebble" she explained.

"that's so cool! how did you learn that!?" Antonio exclaimed.

"I heard singing from beyond the mountain. a giant vine sliced some of my hair off and made a hole in the mountain. a boy with green hair was the one who made the giant vine and is apparently the life elemental. he's the one who can talk to animals. also my hair changed to this soon after I got through the mountain" Mirabel explained, gesturing to her hair at the end.

"and your eyes too!" Antonio pointed out.

"my eyes too? seriously?" Mirabel muttered the last part, covering her face with her hand.

"what else can you do?" Antonio asked excitedly.

"no clue, he pretty much just told me I'm the air elemental, that I can make things float, how to change my hair color and then I left" she explained.

"what's an elemental?" Antonio asked.

"I don't know, all I know is there's at least two and I'm pretty sure there can only be one of each type at a time" Mirabel replied.

"also, apparently like tia Pepas gift, my powers react to my emotions, even when my hair and eyes are normal" she continued.

"you can do it when your hair and eyes are normal?" Antonio wondered aloud.

"no, its severely weakened when I look normal. pretty much all I can do in this form is lightly manipulate the wind" Mirabel said, her hair and eyes changing to normal.

"can I watch you practice?" Antonio asked.

"sure" she smiled.

a grumbling sound went off from Antonio's stomach.

"after breakfast" Mirabel said, lightly gesturing to his torso.

a few minutes later the two were sitting at the dining table eating breakfast.

"hi" Luisa said, walking into the room, looking exhausted.

"hi! Mirabel has powers!" Antonio happily replied.

Luisa looked at him with confusion before lightly shaking her head and heading to the kitchen.

"I'd prefer the others not to know about that. not yet anyways" Mirabel told the youngest madrigal.

"okay" Antonio responded before taking another bite of his food.

Pepa came next, a drizzle of rain following her. this time Antonio said nothing about Mirabel's abilities.

Felix was close behind, quiet as he followed his wife.

then Dolores came, giving them a small smile while mouthing 'congratulations' to Mirabel. they had forgotten about her listening.

Camilo came, hopping on one foot for a single step. probably trying to keep himself exercised despite how much he had probably just done.

an anxious Julieta and Agustin came, giving Mirabel concern.

Alma finally came, no emotion on her face. Mirabel's anxiety spiked as she walked past, giving Mirabel a single glance.
