Dorothy went over to her friend, and looked over to her. she had made the promise. And now here she was looking at her friend, the tears in her eyes as she had just chosen to make an impossible decision.

She took her friends hand, and for the first time. It felt cold, shaking, there was fear there, and it scared dorothy, she looked at Ellie who shook her head.

"Dorothy, I barely know who I really am, believe me, I would appreciate your help, but this is something that you cant help me with, not this time" she said looking at both of them, kissing her cheek gently.

"What are you guys going to do?" Alex asked curiously.

"Learn to be myself, and not let anyone stand in our way." She said looking at her sister, taking jude's hand and leaving the lecture hall.

Dorothy and alex were quick to make chase. Watching as she unbuckled the sword from her belt.

She tossed her sword aside, and she and jude seemed to be walking on air at this point, dancing on the winter winds. Doing a waltz for a moment before alighting on the ground again.

The other students filed out, Dorothy looking at a majority of them, Nadia had taken a place hiding behind her and alex to watch. Her colors showing, the glamour falling off. She was a bright grey now, and absolutely terrified.

"Ellie, you're making a mistake!" she said as she was met with a barrier

Neither dorothy nor alex saw her even draw her wand, but it was in her hand now. Tears were streaking down her face, the look of acceptance there as she shook her head.

"Ellie please!" Glinda cried, trying to shatter the barrier.

Those cries fell on deaf ears, as she looked to jude who nodded. Ellie started to bind a spell, just as Glinda managed to use some of her magic to shatter the barrier. Ellie however, without the help of a bubble started to levitate.

She zipped around, the yard several times, Elphaba finally getting another grasp on Glinda. Watching as Ellie landed in front of her Glinda.

Dorothy took her friends hand and grasped it tight, she could still feel her shaking but with more confidence. Tears still tracking down Ellie's face, staining it, streaking it red. Ellie looked at her best friend, knowing what she was doing, attempting to cut the tie. Letting Dorothy's hand go, letting her best friend go. Only for it to be grabbed again.

"Ellie!" was as far as Glinda got before Elphaba hushed her.

"Ellie I wont stop you, no matter what happens, wherever you go, you know who to call on." Dorothy said warmly, though there was no smile on her face now, "and I release you from your promises as well." she said kissing the back of it before releasing it.

Ellie went to Jude and took his hand, before turning to her sister, one more time. Full fury finally on her face. Dorothy knew she didn't lose her best friend, but to keep that she had to let her find herself. I don't think you guys can help me for once echoed through her head, that meeting the year prior. She nodded at Ellie and stepped back Alex looked at Glinda who was struggling against Elphaba's grip, looking at dorothy. She nodded. The others were giving her a wide berth as well, backing up as dorothy did.

As Elphaba lost her grip again on Glinda, only for alex to run in and grab her, a stronger grip that she just couldn't break from. Even Glinda knew she couldn't fight alex. The next words that came out of Ellie's mouth were directed, directly at Glinda. Tears were tracking Glinda's face now, the reality of it all as her sister spit words of venom at her.

Ellie nodded. Alyssa saluted her. Elphaba frowned, this hurt Glinda most of all, and what hurt her most of all was that she knew that she deserved it. like Ellie said, all that she had done. This was her reward. She promised if it came to bite her, she would let it happen, she would side with ellie.

There was a bright flash as wind burst out. Dorothy was nearly knocked over, but the scepter came and steadied her, the last thing she saw of her was a pair of dark blue wings flap, and a zing of light zip past her line of vision. Madeline was holding onto her hat and braced against the wind. Alex had finally released Glinda who was on her knees, sobbing. Alex came over to her and took Dorothy's, kissing it as she had done to ellie's. His eyes assured her they had done the right thing, that she had done the right thing.

It would not be the last time that dorothy would talk to her best friend. There would never be a last time.

But as ellie and Jude sat on a parapet, overlooking the land of Oz. instinctually, however, ellie knew the next time she talked to her best friend, would be her last time, for a long time.
