I noticed his mood changed after he rejected a call. He was trying to keep up the conversation, but something was definitely going on in his mind.
"Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Ummm... Yeah... Yeah... It's fine..." He said.
Well, it didn't seem to be fine?
"Can I request you something?" He said, "If you get any text or call from any of my family members, just ignore them!"
"What do you mean?" I asked, "I don't plan to talk to Masen ever again..."
"Not just Masen... Even Mom. Just in case she tries to reach out to you, just ignore her... Just like I did!" he said, "They have lost their minds!"
What?
"I don't understand anything?" I said, "Why would she call me? And why should I ignore her? Edward... Can you please tell me what's going on?"
"I mean, I'm asking you to ignore them until we're stable... Or until we figure out if we even make sense as a couple..." he said, "I'm sorry if I'm scaring you... I'm not sure about you, but I'm extremely serious about this, and I don't want anything else to come between us. If this doesn't work out, it should be based only on mine or your wish, not based on any external bullshit."
"Alright, you are actually scaring me right now..." I said, "Why exactly would Esme want to reach out to me? And what do you mean by 'you're not sure about me, but you're extremely serious about this'? If I was not serious about this, I wouldn't be here..."
He was not making any sense to me right now... But he was definitely pissing me off!
"Look...My mother thinks that we all are kids and she's trying to meddle, but I don't want her to do that," he said, "I've already warned her, but I just don't trust her enough to have enough confidence that she's not going to do something stupid and reach out to you."
"But why would she reach out to me?" I asked.
"To ask you that you should stay away from me... Just like she did earlier..." He said, "She thinks Masen and I should resolve our conflicts and I should avoid doing anything to make our conflicts worse... I don't care about what she or fucking Masen think... I'm going to do what I want to do."
"Edward..." I sighed, "What exactly are you trying to say? Wait a second... So basically Esme is asking you to stay away from me because it will increase conflicts between Masen and you..."
Actually, thinking about it, she was not wrong... I mean, I also thought about it, right? We already had a mess, and then me dating Edward was only going to make it worse... I didn't want to create any conflicts in their family! And... Everyone would say that I was a slut for playing with two brothers!
"Actually..." I said, "I think this date is not really a good idea..."
