Chapter 3.
Evangeline couldn't believe it when she saw Laura standing beside the Wolverine variant. She had spent weeks searching for her adopted daughter and now here she was secure in her arms.
"Where the hell were you Laura? I searched for weeks but you had disappeared. You can't do shit like that" asked Evangeline as her hair slowly began to change to purple.
Pulling away Laura wiped the tears from her eyes and whispered "I'm sorry Mom. The TVA sent me to the Void but I met Wade and Logan there and they helped me get back to this universe. I'm sorry I worried you and Jake".
Taking deep breaths to control herself, Evangeline slowly nodded her head. Looking at Wade and Logan she asked in a demanding tone "did Laura tell you she already has a family?".
Logan who now had Wade standing beside him was about to answer when Althea said "she told me. Now why don't you sit here, have a drink and show some respect. These men have looked after her, that you should be grateful for".
Wade watched Eva glare at Blind Al for a few seconds ready to protect his blind room – mate. Clearing his throat he said "look my little Wolverine wannabe, Laura hasn't gotten hurt and Peanut here has kept her safe".
"Shut up Wade" growled Logan. "Stop trying to make things worse than what they already seem to be and how the fuck is she a Wolverine wannabe?".
Seeing the fury building in Logan's eyes Wade chuckled and clapping his hands he said in a taunting tone "that's right, you don't know about dear Evangeline. Well, let Marvel Jesus explain it to you".
"I don't need you explaining my story Wade. I can tell him myself if I want to" griped Evangeline as she sat at the kitchen table.
Chuckling softly Wade sat across from her and whined "you explaining it makes it depressing. I would make it fun".
"Wade, this is no time to start a problem with Evangeline. She should tell the story if she chooses to" said Colossus in a irritated tone.
"Look Shiny Jesus it's obvious she's not going to tell the story and even if she was going to" sighed Wade as he looked behind him before adding "the Honey Badger and the little Wolverine Wannabe have left".
Colossus groaned before shaking his head and saying "I will go and see where they went. I hope Evangeline isn't trying to prove a point".
Laura who had seen them exit through the back door one after the other said "no, I will get them".
Wade smirked and patting the seat beside him he said "you'd best stay here with Uncle Wade and Grandma Althea".
"Why?" asked Laura angrily as she pulled on her jacket.
"They could be doing something naughty and frankly we can't have your mind corrupted" explained Wade in a fake sweet tone.
"Shut up Wade, Laura can leave if she wants to" said Althea as she handed Colossus a mug of coffee.
Evangeline grumbled as she tried to get the lighter to work. Realising it was useless she took the cigarette out of her mouth annoyed that Wade had pissed her off. Seeing Logan who was puffing a cigar hand her a lighter she accepted it and lit the cigarette. Taking a deep drag she handed the lighter back to Logan.
Logan shook his head and said "you can keep it, I have another one inside". They both stood there in silence before Logan said "look, when I met Laura in the Void she didn't tell me she had a family. All she told me was about the Logan she knew".
Evangeline nodded her head slowly before asking "what did she tell you about him?".
Shrugging his shoulders Logan replied "that he was angry, drunk and mean. That he showed up when it mattered and that I reminded her of him. I know I'm not her Father but I swear, I'd never hurt her".
Evangeline listened and when he was finished she said "yeah, that pretty much sums up James. He only knew her for a few days but I'm sure he loved her. Well I hope he did. I know you're not her Father but she seems to trust you and I hope you keep your word about not hurting her".
"I won't hurt her" assured Logan.
"Laura is pretty unique. She was created in a lab using his DNA but they implanted the claws when she was older" said Evangeline quietly.
Logan frowned and looking at Eva he said "he would have been proud of her, I'm sure of that".
Evangeline smiled and sighed "I hope he is proud of them both". Seeing Logan nod his head she added "Logan, I'm not here to start problems or to try and kill you". Seeing the amused smirk on his face she continued "Laura's been through too much and if you do hurt her, trust me I will find a way to hurt you".
Stomping on his finished cigar Logan nodded his head before saying "I believe you but like I said, I won't hurt her. She's a good kid but what did you mean by both of them?".
Before Evangeline could answer the back door opened and closed. Seeing Laura walking toward them she replied "James fathered a son". Seeing the shocked expression on Logan's face Eva smirked before giving Laura a hug.
Returning the hug Laura asked "is everything okay. You both left the conversation Wade was having".
"Everything is fine sweety. We just needed a break from Wade. He'd give anyone a headache" explained Eva.
Laura nodded her head in agreement before saying "are ye coming back inside?".
"Yeah, can't leave Wade on his own for too long. Especially with Colossus in there with him" replied Eva as she took Laura's hand while Logan took her other hand.
Bewildered Laura let them pull her back indoors confused to what was going on but her thoughts were shattered when she saw Wade held by the throat with an angry Colossus looming over him.
Wade pushed Colossus off of him before saying "I was only joking. Jeez you're like Peanut over there. You can't take a joke".
"It was not a joke. If Mister Sinister is back then we need to protect Evangeline not hand her back to him" growled Colossus angrily.
Wade groaned and looking over to see Evangeline he rubbed his face with his hands and said "fine I'll keep an eye on them".
Evangeline feeling Logan's eyes on her and Laura giving her a hand a squeeze she pulled away from Laura's grip and approaching Wade she said "you don't have to if you don't want to Wade".
"But.." began Colossus but was cut off by Eva shaking her head at him.
"Piotr we can't expect a merc to be a hero among heroes" said Evangeline softly. Seeing the shocked expression on Wade's face she added "Marvel Jesus wouldn't be hero enough for this".
"Now wait one minute Evangeline" said Wade hurt at what she had said. "As Marvel Jesus I can assure you that I am hero enough to protect you. No one will hurt you with me as your bodyguard".
"Do you honestly think that you can protect me and my son from Mister Sinister?" asked Evangeline seriously.
Wade looked at Logan and Laura who had entered their space before nodding his head slowly and replying "yeah I could do it. Me and Peanut won't let anything you or your son".
"Thank you Wade. It's nice to know there's a hero still in you" said Evangeline smiling broadly.
Logan watched the exchanged between the two before saying "yeah I'm in. Mister Sinister won't be easy to beat but we'll protect you and the boy".
Wade gave Evangeline a hug and said "we'll even do chimichangas once a week".
"And he's lost again. I'm still waiting for him to cook these chimichangas" muttered Laura turning away from Wade's shocked expression.
Colossus feeling a headache forming at his temples said "glad to know we can count on you Wade and you Logan. Evangeline it's time to go home".
Evangeline frowned but nodded her head. Walking over to Laura she hugged her saying "it won't be long before me and Jake will be living next door. Behave yourself and take care of yourself".
Nodding her head Laura said "I will and give Jake a hug for me". Letting go of Laura Evangeline nodded a goodbye to Logan before following Colossus out the front door.
The room was quiet for a few seconds before Wade exhaled. Looking over at Logan he said "if you two get together can you imagine the babies she will have with you. There'll be little Wolverines running around all over this place".
"Shut up Wade" shouted Althea, Logan and Laura at the same time. Wade rolled his eyes and strolled into the kitchen excited about what might happen with Evangeline and her son being their new neighbours.
