August*
Aaron was surprised when Emily had agreed to go with him to take the kids to the park. He knew that she needed to get out, with being home and in the office, she seemed cooped up. They were sitting down on one of the benches watching the kids play. From the corner of her vision, she caught him looking at her. When she looked over at him, they made eye contact. He immediately looked away. She looked back out to the children and spoke.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Aaron. I know you well enough to know that there is something on your mind." sitting back and looking over to him.
He laughed "I'm sorry. I just wanted to apologize. You were right. I should have talked to you about it first."She knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Will that took you long enough. 'he rolled his eyes at her.' but I appreciate the apology. I understand where you were coming from and I know that you were just looking out for me and the baby. Just next time, talk to me about it first."
"I just couldn't live with myself if something happened to either of you. Im supposed to keep you safe. Both speaking as your boss and as a father."
"I know but you have to trust me Aaron."
"I do."
"Okay but you made me feel as if you didn't. You should know me by now. Nothing is more important to me than my children. I want to keep them safe and I will do everything in my power to keep them safe. I just need you to trust me."
"I do trust you Emily. I'm sorry and I promise that I won't be making any decisions again without talking to you first."
"Thank you. I appreciate that."
"I'm here for you Emily. Always."
"Thank You." She smiled at him and focused her attention back on the children.
"Hey uh, now that we have time. We should talk about something." her voice broke the silence. With the pregnancy halfway over, they needed to have another conversation.
"You have something in mind?"
"Yeah. How are we going to do it? Now that I'm halfway through my pregnancy and the baby is going to be here soon. I just don't want to figure it out then."
"How are we going to do what Em?"
"Coparent. Baby is going to need me for a while and I don't want to keep it from you."
"I understand, but we can always try bottle feeding when it's with me or maybe If you want, we could always stay with each other for the first few months, we could switch."
"I mean we can always try and see what works. You can stay with me. There's a pull out mattress in my couch and the kids can always share a room."
"We can talk about it all we want now, but we won't know what works until the baby comes."
"Agreed. We can form a game plan now and then figure out what works."
"I like the sound of that Em."
They talked a little bit longer before departing and heading home.
After Emily and Natalia got home, Emily and Natalia laid in Emily's bed and watched finding Nemo. It was her favorite movie, Emily has watched this movie for what feels like a thousand times but it was her favorite movie and Emily didn't care. She would watch it as many times because she knew that one day, she wouldn't want to watch that movie anymore. She rubbed her belly and hoped that this baby would love this movie once Natalia didn't love it anymore. She smiled when the baby kicked, she saw it as a sign. She cuddled her daughter more and continued to watch the movie.
Later that night, Natalia was fast asleep, Emily was lying in bed trying to fall asleep. She, for the life of her could not fall asleep. She kept starring at the ceiling with the hopes that she would fall asleep out of boredom. The baby started to move more, which also kept her awake. She placed her hand on her belly and started to rub it and hoped that it would soothe the baby. She became frustrated when she looked at the clock and an hour had passed by. She got out of bed and started to pace the room. She grabbed her phone and saw that she had a message. She smiled when she saw who the text was from.
"Are you awake?"
"Yes. The baby thought it would be a good time to play." As she was still pacing. Another text came.
"Are you hungry?"
"I feel like i'm always hungry."
"Im grabbing some food. I'll be there shortly."
"Thanks but you don't have to. It's pretty late and we both have to get up early in the morning."
"Don't worry about it Em. I'll be there shortly. "
Some part of her became excited that he was coming to spend some time with her, the other part of her was scared. Scared that it would deepen the feelings that she had for him. Nonetheless, she wasn't going to pass up food. She got up and went into the bathroom, ran a brush through her hair and changed her shorts to a pair of sweats. She checked on Natalia once again and saw that she was sleeping. She smiled, closed the door and walked down the stairs. When she heard her phone ding, she knew that was a sign that he was there waiting for her to open the door. She saw him with bags of food in his hands.
"Please tell me you have french fries in there."
"Of coarse and Vanilla ice cream." she opened the door further and motioned for him to come in. She shut the door behind him and locked the door.
"How did you know i wanted vanilla ice cream and french fries."
"because that's all you've been talking about lately. " he joked.
He pulled out the french fries and the vanilla ice cream and handed it to her. She was happy. He smiled at her being happy with food. They sat at the kitchen table laughing, talking, and eating.
They were enjoying their moment when the phone rang. He knew why his phone was ringing so late in the night. The team had a case. He knew that he had to go but that didn't change that he didn't want to go. He wanted to stay in this moment with her.
"A case?" she asked
"Yeah. I'm sorry Emily but I have to go."
"I know. I remember the drill. Go. I'll still be here when you guys get back."
"Okay get some sleep."
"Yes, I'll be there."
"Sounds good. Bye Em. "
"Bye Aaron." He leaned in to give her a kiss on the forehead but when he looked into her eyes, she leaned in farther and kissed him. When she realized what she was doing, she pulled away. She gave him a small smile and sat back into the couch. He grabbed his coat and left. She doesn't know what came over her but she kissed him and she did not regret it at all.
When Aaron got outside of the apartment, he took a minute to thin about what just happened. But he knew that he was falling for her. He didn't want the kiss to end. Maybe they had the chance now, that they didn't have back then. Maybe it will come full circle.
Just Maybe.
He headed for the jet with the biggest smile on his face.
The team wouldn't get back for 7 days, but while he was gone, he realized what he wanted. He wanted to be with her. He wanted to be a family with her. He was falling in love with her more and more every day. Realizing that he loved her, was something that he never thought he'd get another chance at. After she left and Hailey died, he didn't think that it would happen again. Then the world threw a curveball and brought her back to him. These last couple of months have been nothing less of stress. Dealing with cases and dealing with Emily's hormones, he had realized that he wouldn't want to be dealing with anything else. He loved her laugh and loved the way her nose wrinkled when she was mad. He never stopped having feelings for her. Now that he had figured out what he wanted to do, all he had to do was figure out a way to tell her and hoped that she felt the same way.
