Chapter 1: Link Dimension

"Professor! Recent studies have found two extra dimensions," an Academia scientist revealed.
Multiple screens surrounded the Professor's throne, each displaying different graphs and statistics. The professor narrowed his eyes and typed something on one of them.
"These energies. Link energy and Ritual energy. I know them. Send our best stealth ops for recon. Then we can begin the infiltration." The Professor commanded.
"Understood!" another Academia scientist exclaimed while saluting.
Den City - Link Dimension
A teenager - about sixteen - sat up from his bed and stretched. He had deep blue eyes and dark blue hair that spiked in every direction. The tips of his hair were bright red, making it look like arrowheads on his hair.
He walked towards his bathroom and opened the door. He entered a run down and disheveled bathroom. It had cracked wall tiles, the pipes were rusty and there was grime in the hard to reach places. The mirror was cracked on its top left corner. Other than that the bathroom was fairly clean.
He stopped at the sink and brushed his teeth with an old toothbrush and toothpaste from a tube that was nearly empty. He splashed his face with water to wake himself up. He picked up a hairbrush and tamed his wild hair. It now swept back and up creating a teardrop shape. Two strands framed his face and one more fell in front of his nose.
He left his bathroom and looked refreshed and happy. He quickly got dressed. He wore dark blue pants with a white stripe going down the side of the legs. He wore a red shirt and an unzipped dark blue jacket that also had a white line going down the arms. The chest of his jacket had a red arrow pointing down on each side. The back of his jacket had a red circle with a dark blue arrow pointing up. He wore a cuban link chain around his neck as well as a black wire with a red downward pointing arrow pendant on it. He wore a weaved bracelet on his right wrist and multiple gunmetal gray rings on a few of his fingers.
He walked over to his old desk which had a circular device with a black semi-sphere on top of it. next to the device was a key ring with a few keys on it. He picked up both of the objects. He placed the keys in his pocket and put the device on his wrist. The bulb on the device lit up a bright yellow.
"Master Yume. Did you rest well?" a robotic voice asked.
"Yeah, it was super refreshing! Did you sleep well S.A.M?" Yume (pronounced 'you may') responded.
"I am an artificial intelligence. I can not sleep." S.A.M answered.
"Oh yeah. I forgot. Anyway, what's my balance? I'm starving!" Yume exclaimed.
"7,106 yen" S.A.M replied.
"Rent was that much?! I had 198,961 yen yesterday! Greedy landlords, I'm tellin ya!" Yume shouted.
"You also spent 493,221 yen on food this month," S.A.M revealed.
"Really? I mean, I do eat a lot! I am always hungry I guess! Anyway we gotta leave soon! I have to stream today!" Yume said.
"Into the VRAINS!" Yume held up the device on his wrist.
Multiple blue rings surrounded him. Yume put his arms out to his side. The rings went up and down as Yume's clothes pixelated. His clothes were completely different from what they were before the pixelated.
He wore a black dress shirt with a salmon pink tie. He had a red vest with gold buttons over his shirt. His pants were royal blue with light blue highlights. He had a black leather belt with a gold belt buckle. He wore yellow suspenders that were off his shoulders and on his hips. He had red arrowhead markings around his eyes. His hair had the same style, but it was predominantly black with yellow and red highlights. His necklace and chain disappeared as well. The whites of his eyes were black and the blue of his eyes were yellow.
He opened a window and vaulted through the opening, hurling towards the ground. However, he started floating towards the roof of the apartment complex. Once he reached the top of the building he gently landed on the roof.
"S.A.M.! open up the stream!" Yume called.
"It is open Yume." S.A.M. responded.
"Oh. Yo, chat! What's up! Free Wing here! It's been a couple days! Had an assignment from my job! Now I'm back! Ready for anything!" Yume greeted while punching the air.
"Let's go looking for a duel chat! I'm itchin' for a fight!" Yume said gleefully.
Yume ran to the edge of the roof and jumped off of it. He landed on a short surfboard that was flying in the sky. It was white with dark red highlights and yellow thrusters. Yume blasted off into the heart of the city.
"So chat, how ya guys been?" Yume asked.

"Wait wait wait wait. I see a Knight of Hanoi!" Yume exclaimed, "I should troll him!"
Yume sped up to the Knight.
"Yo! Knight of Hanoi! What's up!" Yume shouted.
"Why are YOU here?" the Knight asked.
"For fun? I mean also it's my job, but mostly for fun!" Yume responded.
"Duel!" they both shouted.

"Looks like I'll start!" Yume declared, "First I'll activate the effect of my Galactic Fighter Droid: G6! It lets me special summon him from my hand!"

"Wait! Are you Dave! Dude you just got your account back like yesterday! Why did you go back to the Knights?!" Yume asked.
"Getting arrested is NOT good on my record, and they hired me. And they pay well, so…ALSO MY NAME ISN'T DAVE!" the Knight responded.
"Okay, 'Not Dave'." Yume said while shaking his hands in front of him.
"I draw! I'll activate Dragonoid Generator! By paying 2000 life points, I can special summon two dragonoid tokens!" the Knight declared.

She had long white hair with two royal blue hair clips above her temples. Her eyes were bright blue and she had long eyelashes. She wore black knee high socks and black running shoes. She had a black mid-thigh length skirt that was completely straight. She wore a white short sleeve button up shirt and a loose royal blue tie.
"Hey Lady!" Yume said.

"Wing! We told you not to stream the Knights of Hanoi again! And you shouldn't even be at turn 3! You should've already won!" Striking Lady screeched.
"Nuh uh." Yume said.
"What do you mean 'Nuh uh'?" Striking Lady asked, "Nevermind. I draw!"
"She's gonna take forever with her combos. Yo chat, what's your favorite part of an oreo? Because for me it would be the white cream part!" Yume said.

"Excuse me?! You destroyed my field like that! How?!" the Knight asked.
"I'm really good. Now, I summon Sky Striker Ace - Raye!"

"You also fool around too much. You should have won faster, or gone second to get the first attack. You know the standard Hanoi deck inside and out. You had the cards to win, you failed." Lady scolded.
"S.A.M. cut the stream. I don't duel to crush people! I duel because I want to! I stream because I can! And I put myself in a losing situation to get a rush! You should know this!" Yume argued.
"Listen, Wing, you can't disobey direct orders to take out Hanoi with extreme prejudice. That's how you lose your job." Lady shot back.
"There's no freedom in that! I want to live my life how I want, not how they decided!" Yume revealed.
"I know. You'll get your freedom. We both will." she said.
"Sir, you have a message from 'boss'." S.A.M. interrupted.
"Ah shit. S.A.M. play the message." Yume commanded.
"I need you back at HQ Free Wing. It is important." S.A.M. read.
"Alright. Tell him I'm heading in." Yume requested.
"You want me to go with you, Wing?" Lady asked.
"Yeah! I'm cool with that! Let's go, Kahira!" Yume cheered.
"Wing! Don't use my real name!" Lady yelled.
"Oh yeah! Sorry Kahi- I mean Lady!" He said.
They both exited VRAINS and Yume awoke in his apartment. He called a cab to take him to SOL Technologies.
SOL Technologies
"Yo! Yume, you're here!" a man said while he approached.
His hair stood staring up and it had red lines and dots going through it. He didn't wear a shirt, but he had gold plaiting over his abs. He wore a black, almost dark green, sleeveless trench tuxedo coat with coattails. The inside was lined red and it had gold accents. He wore fingerless gloves that had gold bracers up to his elbow. He wore pants that were the same color as his coat, but the insides were blue. He had a black belt that had a red 'G' in the middle. He wore black boots with gold boots.
His name? Go Onizuka!
"What's up Go!" Yume yelled.
"What has boss told you about why we're here?" Go asked.
"I don't know anything about it, man," Yume said.
"Yume!" a girl shouted.
She had short dark red hair with two orange hair clips above her temples. Her eyes were bright yellow and she had long eyelashes. She wore white ankle socks and pink and white running shoes. She had a pink float short length skirt. She wore a white long sleeve button up shirt with a pink vest that hugged her curves.
She ran, jumped, and hugged - more latched herself onto - Yume. Yume stumbled back a bit, but hugged her back.
"I get you love me and all, but I saw you yesterday, Kahira," Yume gently said.
"I know. I just really wanted to do that, you know?" Kahira said.
"Do you know why boss called us here? Also I'm gonna put you down now," Yume said.
"No, and I won't let go," Kahira joked(?).
"I know. But also I think we should go to big man's office," Yume suggested.
Kahira hobbled off of Yume and ran off into one of the hallways. Go and Yume rushed after her. Once they met up they all got into an elevator and rode it to one of the top floors. They exited and walked into an office.
A man sat at a desk in front of a big window. He had blue hair with dull mint green highlights. He had purple-gray eyes, a long face, and large ears. He wore a white long sleeve button up, with a black tie. He wore a dark blue vest with a lighter blue coat over it. His pants were the same color as his coat. He wore black slip-on dress shoes.
"Hey Akira!" Yume shouted.
"Fujiki-kun. Zaizen-san is the proper way to address me." Akira Zaizen said.
"Whatever Akira! So what do you need from us, man?!" Yume exclaimed.
"Three things. First SOL Technologies has developed AR technology for VRAINS." Akira explained.
"Nice!" Yume yelled.
"Next is more interesting. Our R department has found five other worlds separated by a thin dimensional barrier." Akira revealed.
"That is so damn cool!" Yume shouted.
"No way! Really?!" Kahira exclaimed.
"Is there any proof?" Go asked.
"Third is, we have captured a spy from another dimension. We've labeled it the 'fusion' dimension." Akira revealed again.
"Why would they need a spy?" Go asked
"Because they're evil, obviously." Yume declared.
"We do not know for sure what the spy was up to." Akira explained.
"But you want me to duel the spy while simultaneously showing off the AR tech and seeing what the fusion dimension can do!" Yume guessed.
"In short, yes. You act so goofy that I forget you are a trained detective and hacker." Alira asked.
"First of all, ouchie. Second of all, aren't you confused as to how I figured out you didn't just want me to test it and actually show it off?" Yume wondered.
"You might be a good 'detective', but your hacking skills leave a very recognizable mark, Yume." Akira answered.
"And you might be a super big killjoy! Also my hacking skills are basically undetectable! You're just a hyper genius or something!" Yume shouted jokingly.
"Enough banter, we are working with the police. They are letting us test out what he can do, find out why he is here, and broadcast the new AR tech. They will then arrest this guy after he loses. They are giving us one hour. It started twenty minutes ago. Also, do not, under any circumstances, reveal that the spy is from another dimension. Simply say he is a hologram and that whatever he can do in a duel is also our tech." Akira scolded.
"Where is he?" Yume asked, surprisingly focused.
Akira led Yume, Kahira, and Go to an old duel field.
"He's on the field already. The AR technology has already been uploaded to your duel disk. " Akira said while gesturing to the field.
"Sweet." Yume responded.
Yume then walked to the duel field and looked at his opponent.
"S.A.M., start the stream after I use AR." Yume commanded.
"Who are you? Why am I chained here?" Yume's opponent asked.
His opponent wore A black helmet with an opening for his mouth. It also had a jagged silver design on the front of it, with a green gem on his forehead. He had a blue cropped jacket on with gold accents. He had gold frilled shoulder pads and an emblem in front of his chest on the left. He wore white spandex underneath with gold accents on it. He had no pants over the spandex on his legs. He had a black belt and knee high boots that carried the design from the spandex. The boots also had blue rhombus shaped gems on the top of them.
"I should be asking you that, Dave!" Yume shouted.
"My name isn't Dave." The spy said.
"Who are you then!?" Yume exclaimed.
"I am part of the Obelisk Force. An elite group formed as an army for Academia." The obelisk force member said.
"Alright. AR tech on!" Yume yelled.
Yume transformed into his VRAINS avatar.
"Stream has started, Yume." S.A.M said.
"Good. What's up my adoring fans! Today I bring you guys something special! SOL Tech has recently produced AR technology! They're basically using me as a walking advertisement! Everything that you see in this duel happened IRL and not in VRAINS! My opponent is a hologram, don't worry about him at all!" Yume exclaimed.
"Stop me from seeing the chat. I need to focus." Yume commanded under his breath.
"Put your duel disk on and duel me!" Yume shouted.
The Obelisk Force member put on a shield like duel disk and activated it. It had a sword shaped blade with a red border.
"Duel!" They exclaimed.

"Appear, circuit that leads to everlasting freedom! Arrowheads confirmed! The summoning conditions are two monsters! I set Version X and G6 in the Link Markers! As free as the skies and as powerful as the earth! Let out your ferocious roar my faithful companion! Link Climbing! Descend Starry Freedom Link Dragon!" Yume chanted.

The dragon had a dark blue body with a darker blue hexagonal pattern. It had wide red spikes coming out of its elbows, knees, and neck. The spikes were connected to chains. The dragon was on all fours and had large white claws. At the base of its wings, there were red spheres. The red spheres were also at the middle joint in his wings. The flesh on the wings were metallic silver. It had a long snout and flared nostrils. It had many razor sharp teeth. The base of its tail also had a red sphere and the end of the tail had a large red arrow. Its eyes shone bright red. The dragon let out a powerful roar before snarling at the Ancient Gear Hunting Hound.
"Battle! Starry Freedom attack his Hunting Hound! Go! Tri-Star Burst!" Yume declared.
The dragon got on its hind legs and formed red energy in its mouth and two front claws. It moved its front legs forward and down, which sent the energy forward. Energy shot from its mouth, forming a triangle with each blast of energy. It shot forward and destroyed the mechanical dog.

"Then I'll activate the other effect of one of my Hunting Hounds! I can use cards in my hand or on the field as tributes for a fusion summon!" Obelisk Force exclaimed.
"FUSION WHAT?!" Yume shouted.
"Mechanical hounds who carry on the ancient spirits, flock together and become one with new power! Fusion summon! Appear now! Level 5! Double Ancient Gear Hunting Hound!" Obelisk Force chanted.

"My turn! I draw!" Yume narrated.

"I activate the effect of Starry Freedom Link Dragon! I can target a level five or higher monster and equip it to my dragon! I target your Double Hound! Furthermore, my dragon gains attack equal to your monster's level times one hundred until the end of the turn, even if the monster is unequipped! Go, Unjust Subjugation" Yume declared.

"Battle! Starry Freedom attacks you directly! End this now!" Yume shouted.
"I activate the trap card, Mirror Force! It destroys all of your attack position monsters when you declare an attack!" Obelisk Force rebutted.
"My dragon has another effect! I can negate one card effect by giving you your monster back! Even Trade!" Yume said.
"What?! You negated my Mirror Force?!" Obelisk Force shouted.
"The battle continues! Starry Freedom, attack his Double Hound! Tri-Star Burst!" Yume commanded.
The dragon attacked the evolved Hunting Hound.

"I activate the effect of the Galactic Rebel Fighter: Version X from my graveyard! When a card effect is activated during the battle phase, while I control a link monster in the extra monster zone that Version X was used as material for, I can special summon him to a main monster zone the link monster points to! Basically, I can special summon him from the graveyard during battle!" Yume added.

"Now, Version X attacks directly! And don't think about activating your face down! When he's special summoned from the graveyard by his effect, card effects can't be activated until after the battle phase! Go, Cross Plasma Blast!" Yume declared.
Version X shot laser beams out of the guns on each of his wings, causing a massive explosion.
Obelisk Force LP:1300-0000
"Force return activate." A robotic voice spoke from the Obelisk Force duel disk.
The Obelisk Force was engulfed in a bright purple light and when it dissipated, he was gone.
"Where did he go?!" Yume shouted, "Right. He was a hologram. Of course he would disappear."
"Well guys, as you can see, the duel has ended. BUT! The AR tech hasn't stopped! It's long lasting and built to keep your identity hidden if you so please! Cut the stream S.A.M." Yume said after he collected himself.
Yume fell flat on his back as he sighed in relief. He had never pulled out his ace monster, Starry Freedom Link Dragon, on stream before. He also never performed the evolved Link summoning technique, Link Climbing on stream either. He knew if he wanted to put enough pressure on his opponent, he would have had to pull out all of the stops. He, of course, didn't get the chance because of how easily the spy had lost. In short, he was over stressed.
"Deactivate AR." Yume commanded.
"Yume, what was that?! You beat him too fast!" Akira shouted using Yume's duel disk as a medium.

So this is a what if that details what if the original dimension was split into six instead of four. The reasoning will probably be explained later in the story. But yeah, this is the Link dimension and we see the Zarc counterpart of this dimension as well as the Ray counterpart. Give me any criticism so I can give you a better story.
Split into Six Trivia: Yume is called Yume because the last letter of his name is a vowel that the canon Yu boys never had.
