Time for Derek to check in on Dean after Cas called him.
The end of "Do You Believe In Miracles?" SPN Season 9 and after Teen Wolf Season 4
Notes for SPN: Cas ejected Gadreel before he killed Kevin so Kevin is still alive and was never a ghost. Cas also called Derek for help with Dean after Dean sliced Gadreel up in the bunker and realized that Dean needed more of an anchor than just Sam.
I think that's all.
Three weeks later, when Derek entered the abandoned factory that Cas had directed him to, he could already smell Dean's blood which meant it was outside of Dean's body. Derek was already in total wolf mode so he full-on charged the angel that was about to kill Dean. Yanking away the arm holding the angel sword that was about to embed itself into Dean's chest, Derek raised up on two legs to push the angel back.
Sam had finally reached Metatron and just missed the angel's vital organs with the angel blade in his hand. Still he had done enough harm that Metatron retreated to Heaven where Cas finished off Metatron with the final part of their plan. He hurried over to his injured brother, especially since he saw the black wolf that had saved his brother on top of Dean. He got there as soon as he could then stopped in shock as he saw the wolf licking all of Dean's open wounds or at least as many as he could get to. He didn't understand what was going on until he was pulled out of his shock by the wolf transforming into a human being.
"Derek", Sam observed with considerable relief. "What are you doing here?"
"Apparently trying to save your brother from death's door again," Derek replied caustically. "Which angel was that and why weren't you with him?"
"Metatron, the scribe of God on a God trip," Sam replied then added caustically, "and I wasn't with him because he knocked me out to keep me out of the fight. Because he knew that we would lose. Good timing, by the way. Thank you." Derek sighed heavily while he continued to check over his human, no, the human, carefully. "How is he?"
"Not good. I'm not sure he will survive this time. Can you call Cas to heal him?" Derek asked anxiously.
"No, he can't heal right now." Sam responded with increased concern, "How close is he to dying?"
"Close. His heart is slow as well as his pulse. He's lost a LOT of blood."
Sam ran his hand through his hair nervously and thought for a long moment while Derek slowly, carefully lowered Dean into a reclining position. He started removing Dean's excess clothes to get to his wounds. Once Sam realized what Derek was doing, he helped him.
"You can hear his heartbeat?" Sam inquired curiously.
"Yes," the wolf responded tersely.
"If it slows too much . . ." Derek stopped to focus on the young man who was wrestling with his conscience. He waited patiently for Sam to finish his fight with himself while he continued to listen intently to Dean's heart beat. Finally, Sam drew himself up and finished firmly, "If it slows too much, bite him."
Derek's eyebrows raised instinctively as he responded confidently, "You know if I do that, he will kill me then himself so there's no point to that."
"Just do it," Sam ordered harshly. "I will stop that from happening."
Derek could sense his sometime lover's heartbeat weakening and confirmed harshly, "Are you SURE?"
"Yes. Do it!"
Derek sighed heavily as Dean's heart slowed more. With resignation, he turned to the downed hunter and looked at the nude chest before him. He flashed his alpha eyes then bit down firmly on Dean's left hip. His wolf howled his pleasure inside of Derek's mind over the fact that the hunter was finally his while he reveled in the taste of his hunter's blood. He knew that Sam was watching so he pulled his wolf back firmly and let go of the hunter. He glanced up at the younger hunter and saw relief. He turned to see what the younger hunter was seeing.
Dean's wounds had stopped bleeding but they weren't healing as fast as a normal wolf. Derek didn't mind that as he could sense the new member of his pack and knew that Dean would be okay enough to kill him later for this. He didn't have great confidence in Sam's ability to change that. Still, he listened exclusively to the heartbeat and was surprised to hear more than Dean's and Sam's. These other heartbeats were softer, possibly newer but faster. He frowned in confusion and tried to remember when he had heard heartbeats like this before because he knew he had.
Remotely, he heard Sam's thanks as the young man left for the first aid kit. He barely acknowledged that as he laid a shaking hand on his hunter's stomach for verification. With that verification, he knew he would have to revise his plan of leaving and hiding from the sure-to-be angered hunter. Now, nothing could draw him away, even though he had no idea what he was doing and knew the hunter would be severely irate. He checked his hunter's face as he firmly laid his hand on Dean. The hunter's eyes stayed closed but then it looked like the hunter hadn't slept in a long time. He was interrupted from his assessment by Sam's return.
Sam placed the first aid kit by Dean's feet while he panted, indicating that the hunter had run the whole way. Sam opened it up in a hurry and started pulling out supplies, like gauze and tape. He was completely wrapped up in the rush to keep Dean alive, in spite of the fact that he knew the bite would keep Dean living.
Derek put a hand on Sam's nearest hand, causing Sam to look at him harriedly. "Remember, Sam, he will heal now. It will take time because of the shape Dean was in. I'll help you wrap him up but there isn't as much of a rush as before."
Sam exhaled heavily. "I know, kind of. It will take getting used to but I know. I appreciate the help." They both worked on cleaning and covering Dean's wounds. After a little while working together, Sam had to admit, "I thought it would take more to convince you." Derek glanced at him in question. "To turn him. I thought it would take more. Why didn't it take more?"
Derek answered bluntly, "Because he was dying and I couldn't let that happen, no matter how much he tries to kill himself."
"You were about to bite him anyway," Sam surmised.
"I was debating it," Derek admitted ruefully. "Really wanted to in order to save him but I didn't because I don't know if he can live with it."
"We'll help him," the young man stated confidently. "We'll make him okay with it."
"I hope so," Derek answered softly. By then, it looked like they were done cleaning up the hunting warrior when his younger brother gasped sharply. "What?"
Sam couldn't speak for a moment although he did try. Finally he managed in astonishment as he started to cry with utter happiness and relief, "His arm . . . the Mark . . . the Mark. It's gone. It's gone! Finally!"
Derek stared at Sam for a moment then looked at both of Dean's arms while asking, "What mark?"
"The Mark of Cain, the Father of Murder," Sam explained briefly. "Dean received the Mark to kill a Knight of Hell but it was slowly killing him. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't eat. All the Mark did was help him become a better, more efficient killer while slowly killing him. We've been looking for a cure for months."
Derek commented speculatively, "If the Mark acted like a disease on Dean's body, his new wolf healing would do its best to eradicate it after the more serious bleeding stopped. Or maybe a werewolf cannot be a carrier of the Mark. It could definitely be why Dean's body is not healing as fast as expected."
"I don't care which it is as long as I get my brother back."
"So what now?"
Sam chewed his lower lip a little then admitted, "I have no idea. I guess we all head to the bunker and hope Dean doesn't wake up until then."
Derek frowned slightly and wondered aloud, "What's the bunker and why don't you want Dean to wake up yet?"
"The bunker is our current homebase. It was gifted to us by our grandfather and very secure, secluded. I don't want Dean to wake up until then because there we can keep him under control long enough to convince him not to kill either one of us." Derek arched an inquisitive eyebrow. Sam sighed and admitted ruefully, "We have a dungeon there."
Derek assimilated that information, wondered about the hunters' crazy lives yet again, then reminded, "That's not the only thing we need to control. The full moon is in two days so Dean is going to shift then if he doesn't learn control by then which he probably won't. So we need to keep him inside and keep him away from everyone but me."
"Why only you?" Sam asked with a hint of jealousy.
Derek ignored that and answered clinically, "I can take the damage and heal. No one else, even you, can. Maybe your angel could but you told me he was too weak to even heal so I doubt it. And if we don't stop Dean from killing, especially killing an innocent when he changes, he will not forgive us."
Sam sighed dejectedly but with acknowledgement. He saw Derek cleaning up the supplies then the wolf picked up Dean like he weighed nothing. Derek looked at him inquiringly so Sam picked up the first aid kit and led the wolf to the Impala, where they put Dean in the back seat. Derek climbed into the backseat with the hunter and adjusted him comfortably on his lap.
"There's room up front, you know," Sam commented sardonically as he watched the scene.
"I know but this is the best place to be in case he wakes up and starts swinging."
"Good point," Sam admitted as he climbed into the driver's seat. He quickly started the engine and sped toward the bunker, hoping to get there before his brother woke up.
