Chapter 27: Denial
...Double posting today! Don't miss Chapter 26!
Inuyasha flinched at the mention of the miko, and he crumpled back down against the ancient well, vacant eyes returning to stare into its dark depths.
"What the fuck do you care?"
Sesshoumaru didn't bother answering, continuing until he reached the well's edge, sparing a glance into the bowels of the dilapidated structure, opposite the hanyou. His brother didn't bother looking back up at him; he simply stared down into the well's depths, as though searching for something. His ward's words came back to haunt him.
"...Kagome-sama went home."
–Home–
Something caustic gripped Sesshoumaru's heart, something which he didn't want to quantify; something which seemed to bring him true pain. Whatever it was, it hurt. Whatever this feeling was, this emotion–it stifled his breathing, giving him tunnel vision.
"Inuyasha," he growled, his patience nearly at its end, and he noted that his brother flinched again at his tone. "Where is the miko?"
Seconds ticked by, bleeding into minutes, as he futilely waited for his useless brother to respond. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Inuyasha reached out one clawed hand, finger pointing downwards into the well.
"There," the hanyou relayed in a gruff and desolate tone. "She's there."
Moments ticked by as Sesshoumaru waited for….something. His brother, perhaps, jumping up and declaring that everything was a joke on his behalf. The miko rushing out of the surrounding foliage–somehow able to mask her scent from him–laughing at his expense for being so utterly fooled.
Something.
But time ticked by, and only silence reigned in the glade.
A/N: And just like that, we're all caught up to what I have posted on Dokuga!
