Revised 10-13-24
The battle raged on, with Jiraiya unleashing powerful Fire Release jutsu while Hiruzen expertly parried the reanimated Hokage's attacks. But both men knew this was only a delaying tactic—until they could sever Orochimaru's control over Hashirama and Tobirama, they were at
a severe disadvantage.
"Sensei," Jiraiya shouted, "we need to disrupt Orochimaru's hold over them!"
Hiruzen nodded, his eyes narrowing as he watched Orochimaru stand back, his smirk never wavering. The key to victory was breaking the jutsu.
As the battle raged, Jiraiya quickly formed a series of hand seals, slamming his palms onto the ground. "Seal Release!"
Suddenly, the ground beneath Hashirama and Tobirama lit up with intricate sealing marks. Their bodies convulsed as the seals attempted to break Orochimaru's control. Hashirama's eyes flickered with a faint glimmer of recognition as he struggled against the jutsu.
"You… you dare desecrate our legacy…" Hashirama growled through gritted teeth.
Tobirama, his gaze hardening, spat, "You won't get away with this."
With one final surge of willpower, the two reanimated Hokage shattered the bonds of Orochimaru's control, their bodies crumbling into dust as their spirits were finally freed.
Orochimaru's eyes widened, his smile faltering for the first time. "No! This can't be…"
Hiruzen's breathing was heavy, but his resolve was unwavering. "It's over, Orochimaru."
But Orochimaru's grin quickly returned, though laced with frustration. "Over? Hardly, Sarutobi-sensei." His form shimmered, revealing that the Orochimaru they had been fighting wasn't the real one—it had been a shadow clone all along.
The real Orochimaru's voice echoed from the shadows as his presence began to fade. "Enjoy your brief victory. Konoha will fall, eventually."
Before Jiraiya or Hiruzen could react, Orochimaru was gone, retreating into the shadows, leaving the rooftop eerily silent.
Jiraiya clenched his fists in frustration. "He got away, was he really just testing us all along?"
Hiruzen, though tired, remained composed. "Let him go. We need to focus on protecting the village."
Naruto created several shadow clones, surrounding Gaara as they rushed forward in an attempt to overwhelm him with sheer numbers. But Gaara's sand defense was automatic, the monstrous arm of the Shukaku swiping through the clones effortlessly.
Sasuke's eyes locked onto Gaara's movements. He could see that Gaara's control over the Shukaku wasn't complete yet, but time was running out. If Gaara transformed fully, it would be over.
"Chidori!" Sasuke shouted, his hand crackling with lightning as he dashed forward, aiming for Gaara's exposed side. His Chidori cut through the air, sparking as it collided with Gaara's monstrous arm.
Gaara screamed in pain, the sand around him writhing as the Shukaku's influence fought back. "You think you can stop me?!" Gaara roared, his voice filled with madness.
The force of the blow sent Gaara stumbling back, but instead of retreating, the Shukaku's influence grew stronger. Sand swirled around him, and his body began to contort further as the transformation continued.
Naruto, realizing they were running out of time, glanced at Sasuke. "We need to stop him before he fully transforms! He's too strong!"
Sasuke wiped sweat from his brow, his Sharingan analyzing Gaara's movements. "We'll have to work together."
Naruto nodded, forming a quick set of hand seals. "I'll distract him. You go for the opening."
Naruto's clones surrounded Gaara again, this time attacking in tandem, forcing Gaara to focus on multiple targets at once. As the sand whipped through the air, Naruto formed a hand seal. "Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
A powerful gust of wind erupted from Naruto's palms, pushing Gaara back and scattering the sand around him. The wind temporarily disrupted Gaara's defenses, giving Sasuke the opening he needed.
"Chidori!" Sasuke dashed forward again, his lightning-infused hand piercing through the remaining sand and striking Gaara's chest.
Gaara howled in pain as the Shukaku's influence receded slightly, his monstrous arm twitching violently.
Naruto seized the moment, launching himself toward Gaara with a powerful kick. "Uzumaki Barrage!"
His attacks landed with precision, each blow pushing Gaara further to the ground until, finally, Gaara collapsed, unconscious, his transformation halted.
Panting heavily, Naruto and Sasuke stood over Gaara's defeated form. "We… we did it," Naruto gasped, his body shaking from exhaustion.
The moment Temari's fan sliced through the air, a sharp gust of wind surged toward Hikari with tremendous force, tearing through the forest canopy. Temari stood tall, her eyes locked on Hikari, confident that her attack would overpower the Uchiha girl. "Don't think you can handle the might of the wind, Uchiha," she taunted, grinning as her fan unfolded to its full length.
Hikari's Sharingan spun rapidly, allowing her to predict the path of the wind attack. With fluid movements, she leaped to the side, the wind missing her by inches. She landed gracefully on a nearby tree branch, her cold, calculating gaze never leaving Temari.
"You rely too much on that fan of yours," Hikari replied calmly. "It won't be enough."
Temari growled, swinging her fan again, this time with more intensity. "You're all talk! Let's see how you handle this! Wind Release: Great Sickle Weasel Technique!"
With a swipe of her fan, a vortex of cutting wind blades surged toward Hikari, each gust capable of shredding through the trees like paper. The deadly winds roared toward Hikari, aiming to trap her within the devastating attack.
But Hikari's Sharingan allowed her to see the pattern of the wind blades. She moved with incredible precision, weaving through the storm of wind with the grace of a seasoned warrior. In a blur of speed, she vanished from Temari's line of sight.
Temari's eyes widened. "What?! Where—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Hikari reappeared behind her in an instant, her kunai pressed lightly against Temari's neck.
"Your wind can't touch me," Hikari whispered coldly, her voice dripping with confidence.
Temari's heart raced as she felt the cold steel against her skin. She gritted her teeth and swung her fan backward in a desperate attempt to knock Hikari away. But Hikari was faster, leaping back gracefully before the fan could connect.
Temari spun around, anger flashing in her eyes. "Don't underestimate me!" she yelled, her voice shaking with frustration. She raised her fan again, preparing to unleash another powerful wind attack, but Hikari wasn't giving her the chance.
Without hesitation, Hikari formed a series of rapid hand seals. "I've seen enough. It's over."
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!" Hikari called out, releasing an enormous sphere of flame from her mouth. The fireball surged forward, its heat radiating through the forest, lighting up the battlefield.
Temari's eyes widened in shock as the fireball raced toward her, but she quickly unfolded her fan to block the attack. The flames collided with the fan's gusts of wind, creating a fiery explosion that sent a shockwave through the trees.
But Hikari wasn't finished.
Using the explosion as a distraction, Hikari closed the distance between them in an instant, her Sharingan tracking Temari's every move. Before Temari could react, Hikari delivered a powerful roundhouse kick to her midsection, sending her flying into a nearby tree. Temari gasped as the air was knocked out of her lungs, her fan slipping from her grasp.
Hikari landed softly on the ground, her eyes locked on Temari as she struggled to stand. "You're not strong enough to beat me," Hikari said, her voice steady and unyielding.
Temari coughed, struggling to her feet, but her body was weakened from the battle. She raised her hands in a final attempt to summon her wind jutsu, but Hikari was already moving.
With one swift motion, Hikari appeared in front of her and struck Temari's pressure point, sending her into unconsciousness. The fan-wielding kunoichi collapsed to the ground, her body limp.
Hikari stared down at her fallen opponent, her expression neutral. "You were never a match for me."
Shikamaru faced off against Kankuro, the puppet master. The two stood a short distance apart, the tension thick in the air as they sized each other up.
Kankuro smirked as he held his puppet Crow in front of him. "You're in for a world of hurt, kid. Let's see how you handle my puppets."
Shikamaru sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "This is such a drag," he muttered, his eyes lazily assessing the battlefield. "But I guess I don't have a choice."
Kankuro wasted no time, sending Crow flying toward Shikamaru, the puppet's sharp blades extending from its arms. The puppet's movements were swift and unpredictable, darting through the air like a viper.
Shikamaru remained calm, his mind already calculating the angles and paths of the attack. "He's using a puppet as his main weapon… I'll need to avoid direct combat."
As Crow closed in on him, Shikamaru leapt backward, narrowly avoiding the puppet's attack. He quickly moved into a shaded area under a tree, his hands forming the familiar seals of the Shadow Imitation Jutsu.
"Trying to hide in the shadows, huh?" Kankuro scoffed, sending Crow in for another strike. The puppet's blades gleamed in the light as it lunged at Shikamaru.
But just as Crow's blades were about to strike, Shikamaru's shadow extended toward the puppet, catching it mid-attack. "Gotcha," Shikamaru muttered.
Kankuro's eyes widened in surprise as he realized what had happened. "What?!"
Shikamaru's shadow had connected with Crow, freezing the puppet in place. Kankuro tried to pull it back, but Shikamaru's control over the shadows was too strong.
"You're not the only one who can manipulate others from a distance," Shikamaru said with a smirk.
Kankuro gritted his teeth. "Don't think you've won yet, kid!"
Suddenly, Crow's body shifted, releasing a cloud of poisonous gas from its joints. Shikamaru's eyes widened in alarm as the gas spread toward him, forcing him to release his hold on the puppet and jump back to avoid inhaling the toxins.
"Poison, huh? That's tricky," Shikamaru muttered to himself, already analyzing the situation. "I'll need to end this fast before he gets another chance."
Kankuro smirked, taking advantage of Shikamaru's retreat. "You're not so smart after all."
But Shikamaru had already devised a plan. He moved back into the shadows, his mind working quickly. He watched as Kankuro maneuvered Crow, trying to corner him with the puppet's blades. But Shikamaru's eyes flicked to the terrain—there was just enough shadow in the area for him to manipulate.
"Alright, time to make my move," Shikamaru said, his eyes sharp as his hands flew through a series of seals.
"Shadow Imitation Jutsu!"
This time, Shikamaru's shadow shot forward, not toward Crow, but toward Kankuro himself. The shadow moved through the trees, weaving through the branches until it reached its target.
Kankuro's smirk faded as he realized too late what was happening. "No—"
Shikamaru's shadow connected with Kankuro's, freezing him in place. Kankuro's body stiffened as he struggled to break free, but the control was too strong.
"You were so focused on your puppet that you didn't notice the shadows closing in on you," Shikamaru said, his smirk returning. "Checkmate."
Kankuro growled in frustration, unable to move. He had been outsmarted.
Shikamaru sighed again, releasing the jutsu. Kankuro collapsed to the ground, exhausted from the effort of trying to break free. "This was such a drag," Shikamaru muttered, walking over to Kankuro. "But I guess that's what happens when you underestimate your opponent."

With Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro defeated, the group of Konoha shinobi stood victorious. Naruto, Sasuke, Hikari, and Shikamaru, though tired and battered, had succeeded in stopping the Sand siblings' escape.
"That was… intense," Naruto said, wiping the sweat from his brow. "But we did it."
Sasuke nodded, his Sharingan deactivating. "Yeah… we stopped them."
Hikari glanced down at the unconscious Temari, her expression unreadable. She had expected more from her opponent, but the battle had proven that skill would always outmatch arrogance.
Shikamaru stretched lazily, his hands behind his head. "Let's hope we don't have to do that again anytime soon."
They turned to Pakkun, who had been observing the fight from a distance. The small ninja dog nodded. "I'll inform Kakashi and the others that the Sand siblings have been captured."
Naruto pumped his fist in the air. "Yeah! We won!"
As the adrenaline of the battle faded, Naruto's wide grin hadn't left his face. He looked around at his teammates and the fallen Sand siblings, feeling a surge of pride well up inside him. They had fought hard and won, but what stood out most to him was how Hikari had been during the fight—strong, composed, and downright unstoppable. He admired that about her.
Naruto walked over to where Hikari stood, still surveying the unconscious Temari. He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, flashing her one of his trademark grins.
"That was awesome, Hikari!" he said, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. "You were like—bam! And then—whoosh!" He mimicked a few of Hikari's moves, flailing his arms around in exaggerated excitement.
Hikari raised an eyebrow, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips despite her usual composed demeanor. "You're exaggerating, Naruto. I was just doing my job."
"No way! You totally thrashed her!" Naruto continued, stepping closer. "I knew you were strong, but seeing you in action like that was… well, it was amazing!"
A slight blush crept across Hikari's cheeks, though she quickly tried to mask it by turning her attention back to the fallen Temari. Naruto's endless praise, his bright energy, and that earnest way he looked at her—it was something she wasn't used to. Still, it gave her a strange sense of warmth she hadn't felt in a long time.
Naruto didn't seem to notice her momentary discomfort as he continued, "We make a great team, don't you think? I bet we could take on anyone together!"
Hikari chuckled softly, finally meeting Naruto's gaze. "Maybe," she replied, her voice softer than before. "You're not so bad yourself, Naruto."
Naruto's grin grew even wider, and he puffed his chest out proudly. "Heh, thanks! I'm gonna be Hokage one day, after all. Gotta stay strong."
From a short distance away, Sasuke watched the exchange with a look of mild irritation on his face. His arms crossed, his expression shifted between a cringe and disapproval. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but something about the way Naruto and Hikari interacted irked him.
However, this time it wasn't just irritation. Sasuke's mind flashed back to his conversation with Hikari from before, when she had told him that she had mastered the Uchiha fire techniques by the age of seven. He had doubted her back then, brushing it off as arrogance. But now, after seeing her in action, after watching her decisively defeat Temari, there was no denying her power. She had proven it, just as she had said she would.
Sasuke's lips twisted slightly, a mixture of admiration and frustration battling within him. His Sharingan eyes scanned Hikari as she stood tall after the battle. 'She wasn't lying,' Sasuke thought, begrudgingly admitting it to himself. 'She really is strong.'
But the acknowledgment didn't bring him peace—it only fueled his own desire to surpass her. Just like Naruto, Hikari was another person in his way. Sasuke clenched his fists as he turned away, the seeds of rivalry planted deeper.
Shikamaru, who had been stretching his sore limbs, caught Sasuke's expression and let out a sigh. "Troublesome," he muttered, shaking his head. "Young love, huh? Just what we need after a battle…"
Sasuke shot Shikamaru an annoyed look but said nothing, opting to turn his attention back to Gaara's unconscious form instead.
Meanwhile, in the heart of Konoha, the invasion was finally drawing to a close. The streets that had been filled with chaos and destruction mere hours ago were now being reclaimed by the Leaf forces. The combined efforts of the ANBU, jonin, and chunin had driven off the remaining Sand and Sound shinobi. Buildings were scarred, smoke still lingered in the air, but Konoha stood tall.
Several squads of ANBU were patrolling the area, ensuring that the last of the invading forces had either been captured or eliminated. Civilians were being ushered to safety as the Konoha forces began to assess the damage.
At the village gates, Kurenai and Asuma stood side by side, overseeing the retreat of the Sand forces. Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara had been apprehended and secured by Pakkun's message, and the battle was clearly tipping in Konoha's favor.
Kurenai wiped her brow, her gaze serious. "The invasion's over, but the damage is done. We'll have to rebuild quickly."
Asuma lit a cigarette, taking a deep drag. "Yeah, but at least we drove them off. Orochimaru's plan failed." He exhaled slowly, his eyes narrowing as he looked toward the heart of the village. "Now it's a matter of dealing with the aftermath."
Kurenai nodded. "We should regroup and make sure the Hokage is safe."

The Hokage Tower stood as a beacon amidst the rubble, with Hiruzen Sarutobi overlooking the village from his vantage point. Jiraiya, standing by his side, wore a grim expression as the two surveyed the damage done by the invasion.
"We won this round," Jiraiya muttered, "but it's clear that Orochimaru still has more up his sleeve."
Hiruzen nodded slowly, his eyes scanning the village. "He'll be back. We need to be ready for the next time."
"The village will recover," Jiraiya added, his voice a little softer. "But we need to ensure that the next generation is prepared for what's coming."
The old Hokage smiled slightly. "Yes, the next generation… they are stronger than they realize."
As they spoke, Kakashi, Guy, and Genma arrived, delivering their reports on the final skirmishes with the invading forces. After confirming the retreat of the Sound and Sand, the three jonin exchanged solemn glances, knowing that the peace was temporary.
Kakashi glanced at the horizon. "And what of Orochimaru? Has he been dealt with?"
Hiruzen shook his head, his expression firm. "No. He fled before we could finish the fight. But he'll return—of that I'm certain."
Genma chimed in. "I've sent squads to ensure he isn't hiding nearby, but for now, we must focus on restoring the village."
Guy, ever the optimist, gave a thumbs-up. "The Will of Fire will ensure Konoha's swift recovery. We will rebuild and become even stronger!"
The Hokage gave a small nod of approval, his gaze drifting back to the village as the sun began to set. "For now, let's ensure that those who fought bravely are recognized and the village gets back on its feet."
Back in the forest, Naruto, Hikari, Sasuke, and Shikamaru gathered near the Sand siblings, who were now being watched by ANBU operatives. As the adrenaline continued to fade, Naruto turned to Hikari, his earlier excitement giving way to a more sincere expression.
"Hey, Hikari," Naruto said, his voice a little softer this time. "Thanks for helping out today. I don't know what would've happened if we hadn't been working together."
Hikari met his gaze, her expression calm but carrying a warmth she was slowly becoming used to. "It was a team effort, Naruto. You were the one who kept going even when it looked bad."
Naruto rubbed the back of his head, grinning sheepishly. "Well, I couldn't just let my friends down, you know?"
The sincerity in his words made Hikari's chest tighten. It wasn't often that someone thought of her as a friend, especially after everything she had been through. She had been treated like a weapon for so long, but with Naruto… things felt different.
"Yeah," Hikari said softly, her lips curling into a small smile. "You're not so bad, Naruto."
Naruto's grin widened, and he gave her a thumbs-up. "I'll take that as a compliment!"
Sasuke, still standing a little ways off, made a face at their interaction. "Ugh, this is too much," he muttered under his breath, crossing his arms in irritation.
Shikamaru, watching the whole exchange from the side, sighed deeply. "How can you two still have energy for that kind of thing after all this?" he grumbled. "Too troublesome…"
Far away from the village, in the dark recesses of a hidden lair, Orochimaru paced back and forth, his long, pale fingers twitching in agitation. His serpentine eyes narrowed, and his mouth twisted into a scowl. The faint flicker of candlelight cast ominous shadows on the stone walls of the chamber, and the soft dripping of water from the cave ceiling was the only sound that filled the silence—until it was broken by his low growl of frustration.
The invasion had failed.
Despite all his meticulous planning, all the resources he had gathered, Konoha had withstood his assault. His gaze flickered to the map of Konoha pinned to the wall, his eyes burning with malice.
"The Leaf Village… those insolent fools," Orochimaru muttered under his breath, his voice dripping with venom. His tongue flicked out in anger, and he slammed a fist against the stone table in front of him. "I underestimated them. Jiraiya's presence… Hiruzen's resilience. It shouldn't have ended like this."
Behind him, Kabuto stood quietly, watching his master with careful eyes. He had learned long ago that speaking out of turn in these moments of Orochimaru's anger could have severe consequences. He kept his voice calm and measured when he finally spoke. "They were better prepared than we anticipated, Lord Orochimaru. We didn't expect Jiraiya to return in time, nor the resilience of Hiruzen's forces. The younger generation… they are not as weak as we believed."
Orochimaru's lips curled into a snarl. "I had it all within my grasp! The Hokage should have fallen. Konoha should be crumbling beneath my feet. But Jiraiya… that fool always meddles where he shouldn't." He sneered, his fingers curling into claws as he imagined Jiraiya's face in front of him.
Kabuto took a cautious step forward. "We've learned valuable lessons, however. We now know more about the village's current strength, especially regarding their new generation of shinobi. They will have their weaknesses exposed."
Orochimaru turned, his golden, snake-like eyes locking onto Kabuto's, his frustration barely contained. "Yes… the new generation. The boy, Uzumaki Naruto… and those Uchiha brats." His voice dropped dangerously low. "Hiruzen's little toys, rising up to play hero in their precious village."
Kabuto adjusted his glasses, glancing at his master's face for any hint of the direction this conversation might turn. "The Uchiha girl, Hikari, she seems… different from Sasuke. Her abilities with the Sharingan are formidable, but there are no records of her in the village's files. And Sasuke Uchiha, his hatred burns strong, but he still lacks the power that you are looking for."
Orochimaru's lips curled into a wicked smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. Instead, they gleamed with dangerous intent. "Yes… Sasuke. His hatred is a tool I will exploit. He will come to me eventually, seeking the power to destroy his brother. And when he does, I will have the Uchiha under my control."
He slammed his hand on the table again, this time knocking over a set of scrolls. The noise echoed throughout the chamber. "But Hikari… she has a fully matured Sharingan at her age, which intrigues me. I didn't anticipate another Uchiha of such strength to have survived. I was certain that Itachi had eliminated them all except for Sasuke."
Kabuto nodded thoughtfully. "Her presence remains a mystery. There's no trace of her in the modern era, and yet, her abilities are undeniable. She could prove to be an asset if we learn more about her history."
Orochimaru grinned again, this time with a more sinister edge. "An asset, or another tool to mold. Either way, the Uchiha will serve me—whether through Sasuke, or through this Hikari. I will gain their power."
Kabuto cautiously ventured, "Shall we investigate further, then? Perhaps the girl holds a key that could be valuable."
Orochimaru's eyes glittered with amusement. "Yes, investigate her further. Find out what she's hiding. The Sharingan is powerful, but the secrets it holds… I want them all."
He turned back to the map of Konoha, his fingers tracing the outline of the village. His anger had not dissipated, but it had been redirected into something far more dangerous—determination.
"Let them rebuild," Orochimaru said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Let them believe they are safe. Konoha will fall—eventually. And I will have the power of the Uchiha at my side when it does."
He glanced over his shoulder at Kabuto, a sinister glint in his eyes. "For now, we regroup. We will let the dust settle, but I will have my revenge. Prepare everything. I will not tolerate failure again."
Kabuto bowed slightly. "As you wish, Lord Orochimaru."
With that, Orochimaru's gaze returned to the darkness ahead, his mind already calculating his next move. Konoha had survived the invasion, but in his twisted mind, the war was far from over.
The Will of Fire might burn bright in Konoha, but Orochimaru would not stop until he snuffed it out.
