Disclaimer: I do not ownBodega Dreams or any of the elements of the story.
An intrusive thought made its way to Julio and it was "Blanca left, Bodega left, everyone left; what am I going to do now?". He knew this was the end of his relationship with Blanca. After all, she had left way before walking out of their apartment. He had lost Blanca and he knew only a miracle would change this. However, once he thought of Bodega's dream and his hunger for bettering Spanish Harlem, Julio was okay with it. Julio was ok with Blanca leaving him! For once he felt peace in his heart. For once he realized that Bodega's dream went further than his own dreams. His idea of bettering the life of Latinos in United States was not just about making a name for himself. Julio had an awakening at this point and thought "His dream lives in me, and the people he has helped". At this point, Julio had to choose between his own life or the dream of the man that made his dreams come true. Julio had to let go of his own goals to make a change in his community, the community he loved so much. He understood that by doing this, he was also bettering a future for Blanca and his child, even if she did not see it now.
Blanca on the other hand, had to let her feelings go in order to provide a calm home for her baby. She couldn't continue thinking about them as a couple, she had to use all of her energy and her love towards creating a safe place. Her dreams and Julio's dreams were not hand in hand anymore. She realized that love was not enough. Their common dreams and goals had been shattered by a dream that wasn't hers or his, a dream that was Bodega's.
What will be next? Will Spanish Harlem become what Bodega wanted it to be? Will Julio and Blanca see a future together, again? These are all questions that we will have to let go like they did.
