Outside the Large Tree
The group sees hundreds of owls fighting and already many on both sides are dead. They all look around to see owls with silver battle talons and have a silver head cover with a spike on it. However, before anyone could move one of these armored owls' charges at Hicca head down. Hicca screeches and just moves out of the way while Toothless grabs the owl from behind with his talons. Toothless ends up ripping the wing off causing the owl to free fall hitting sharp rocks below. Fishlegs asks nervously, "What do we do?" Hicca answers with determination, "We defend our home. Help as many as you can." Then she says, "We will need to split up. Help who you can and drive them back." Hicca charges an owl with a screech then opens her talons to her opponent while her opponent reacts then they free fall. Toothless watches for a moment then commands, "We can do this. This is for our new home. Help you can. I am going with Hicca." Toothless goes to help Hicca but he is stopped by an armored owl who grabbed him, but Toothless escapes and they battle.
Stormfly and Hookfang head off to help with the main fight and they each deal with strong opponents, Meatlug and Fishlegs go around looking for owls who are injured fighting off anyone who charges them. They both found a group of owlets who were left behind. Meatlug fights to keep the attacking owls away while Fishlegs leads them to a safe hiding place. Ruff and Tuff begin to have several armored owl's follow them. However, the twins are leading their pursuers to a trap set by Barf and Belch. When the twins get to a point, they dive down, but the armored owls could not move fast enough, and Barf and Belch take each of them down by clipping their wings.
The battle continues and has turned long and bloody but with the group's help the defenders are able to push back and fight. Valka and Cloudjumper get separated and Valka is grabbed by two armored owls and a third comes in to charge her. Cloudjumper sees that Valka is in danger and tries to get to her but can't reach her. Since he has several armored owls in his way, and one manages to grab him. Valka closes her eyes and waits for her death, but she feels nothing and opens her eyes. She watches as Hicca slashed one of the armored owls with her talons to force the owl to let go.
Before they could respond Hicca slashes their throat. The owl drops to the ground disappearing into the water below. Moments later a loud screech is heard and Toothless comes in from above, breaking the wing of the other armored owl who has Valka captive. That owl also falls hitting the water, and Valka takes the opportunity to turn escape and slash at the remaining armored owl Valka then nods her thanks to them both. Hicca gives a small nod as does Toothless and the pair fly off together taking on more armored owls.
Valka watches them fly off and also takes a moment to watch them fight and protect each other. Cloudjumper finally kiss his opponent's and goes to join Valka asking, "Are you alright?" Valka nods and says, "They just saved my life." Cloudjumper looks to see Hicca and Toothless fight, each lock with an opponent and diving down only to turn and throw the armor owls into each other. The armored owls free fall but are able to steady themselves and are about to attack the pair again.
However, that is when a loud screech is heard, and all of the armored owls begin to leave the battlefield. Hicca and her friends follow for a moment then stop at the borders. Toothless watches them go and makes sure that none try to return. While he is watching he freezes midair and just stairs at one owl. Hicca notices this and asks, "Are you alright, love? What is wrong?" Toothless does not answer her and continues to stair and that is when the King fly's up to the group and says, "Thank you for your help with the battle." The group bows their head to him, and the King asks kindly, "Will follow me back to the tree?" Hicca nods and the King leads them away. Everyone follows but Toothless stays a moment longer and once the armored owls are away, he follows the rest up into the tree.
Inside the Tree Throne Room
Once back inside Valka and Cloudjumper come in last and take their seats again. The King looks to the group and says, "I thank you all for your bravery. Defending many who can't fight." He bow's his head to the group and Snotlout goes up puffing his chest out then says, "Your welcome. I know I am great." The rest of the group shake their heads and that is when Hookfang steps up and drags him back. Snotlout, protesting the whole time he is dragged back. Fishlegs says, "I'm sorry about Snotlout, he has always been this way." The King just says, "In time he will understand." Fishlegs just nods but keeps his head down. Toothless steps up then demanded, "How long have you been fighting The Red Death?"
Both Valka and Cloudjumper look at each other then back at the group of friends. The King asks, "You know The Red Death?" Toothless answers, "I was part of her colony. I was born and raised in her colony. After I proved myself a fighter I was then taken and sold to a new colony." The other owls that are present begin to murmur to each other not sure what to think. Valka is on edge since owls who are part of her colony are all killers and heartless. Cloudjumper does not move but can see that there is more to the tale. The King then screeches loudly and that silences everyone then he asks, "Tell me are you with her now?"
Toothless answers, "I am not with her. She is my enemy. When I lived with that colony, I was forced to fight only weeks after I left my egg." The shock rises from the owls and soon they go silent and Toothless continues, "I survived by fighting and killing. I was even the one who killed her son when I had to challenge him to leave the ring." Valka then asks, "So, you killed him to be free? Was there not another way?" Toothless answers her coldly, "With all due respect he was my key to freedom. Had I not killed, then he would have killed me. The only way to leave the ring is to kill the guardian." Valka backs down and Cloudjumper says, "Then you are a well-rounded fighter." Toothless says nothing then turns back to the King and said King says, "Then you would do well with the Iron Talon."
Hicca asks, "What is the Iron Talon?" The King waves Cloudjumper and Valka forward then Valka answers, "The Iron Talon is the largest Den here. They are our main fighters and defenders." Toothless then asks, "Would we have to separate? I refuse to separate from my friends. Especially from Hicca." Hicca nods and that is when the King says, "You would be allowed to live together if you wish. You would be part of a Den and not required to live in said Den." The group nod and Fishlegs asks, "How many Dens are there?" Cloudjumper answers Fishleg's, "Iron Talon is the largest. Next to them is Sun and Moon Den. They are navigators. Sun and Moon are the second largest Den. After them is the Seaker Den, they are our trackers."
He stops and Valka picks up, "Next is the Healing Den, they are our healers for in and out of battle. After them are the Black Coal Den, they are blacksmiths. Then we have a Den that goes by the name Night Fury. They are a secret group and the only way to be part of that Den is if they take interest." Snotlout asks, "What do they do?" Valka answers, "I can't tell you that. What they do is secret." Snotlout groans a bit but goes quiet after a moment.
Fishlegs walks up with Meatlug and asks, "Do we have to find our place now?" The King says, "Tomorrow you can begin to find your place among the Dens. But tonight, we celebrate today's victory and the loss of some of our own." The group nod and Valka says, "I will take you to your new nest. Please follow me." She takes off and the group follows Valka out of the tree. Cloudjumper then asks, "You won't tell them the truth, will you?" The King sighs and says, "In time they will know the truth. But for now, I want them to become part of this place. To have a home and feel safe. In the meantime, both you and Valka will be their guide." Cloudjumper nods then he gets off his perch bows and takes off after Valka. The King stays put and thinks how he is going to win the war that has now come to his doorstep.
The Groups New Nest
Valka lands and lets the group go inside and everyone explores their new home. Hicca thanks Valka and goes in without looking at her. Valka then informs, "The feast will be held in a few hours. Myself or Cloudjumper will come get you when it is ready. Do you need anything else?" Hicca answers coldly, "No Valka. We are fine." Valka nods and leaves the nest. Toothless walks up to Hicca and holds her to him. Hicca says, "I don't want to talk about her." Toothless nods and Meatlug comes up to her and asks, "We are all together." Fishlegs then comes up next to Meatlug and says,"Meatlug is right, Hicca. We are together." Hicca smiles at the pair then Stormfly walks up and says, "We are a family. No matter what happens I am with you."
Hookfang and the others agree and even the two sets of twin's nods and together say, "We are family." Hicca smiles more and says, "Thank you guys. You all mean a lot to me." The group hug and move about the new nest, exploring every inch of the place. They all find a hot spring in the back and decide to hang in there until the feast is ready. Cloudjumper comes by a few hours later and leads them to a grand feast. The group take their seats and when the King sees them, he says, "Today we celebrate a victory, loss and gain. Tonight, we celebrate the new arrivals to Haven. The bravery they showed in battle and to celebrate the loss of those who fell defending our home." He bows his head, and all the owls bow their heads in silence.
After a few moments they rise and the King announces, "Let's feat!" Everyone begins to dig in and many of the owls that are seated closely to the group ask questions. Hicca is a bit uncomfortable but answers some questions, while the two sets of twins are more than happy to share tales of their journey to Haven. Fishlegs and Meatlug talk about wanting to learn everything while Stormfly, Hookfang and Snotlout remain quiet. Valka watches from her seat and the King asks, "She will forgive you Valka." Valka says, "I don't think she will your majesty. She is very angry with me for what I have done to her." The King nods then says, "Perhaps with time she will. She is your daughter after all." Valka nods and continues to watch her daughter with her family.
After the feast is over many owls have taken to the air and begun to dance. Some owls remain on the ground playing instruments and even some sing songs. Toothless has gotten Hicca to dance with him. Even others in the group are dancing and even trade partners during their dance. The only one who is not is Stormfly and that is when Valka approaches her and says, "She looks so happy." Stormfly nods and says, "Hicca is very happy. She has seen so much in a short time." Valka asks, "What is her relation with that owl she is with." Stormfly answers, "Toothless is her mate. They became official mates after we left Berk. They trust each other and protect each other." Valka watches and thinks about how things would be different if she had found a way to bring Hicca with her.
Authors notes: I am happy with how this story is coming out so far and I hope you all like it too. Anyways I am fully back, and I hope to keep up with doing updates more regularly.
