Chapter 7: The Leaky Cauldron
Thousand Sunny
Harry, Luffy and Nami returns to the Thousand Sunny after their visit to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it wasn't that long when the crew start to notice their return and came to greet them. Harry had told everyone about their journey to the otherworld, about the school which is a magic castle and that it taught many potential witches and wizards for nearly a thousand years. Everyone was at awe by this, even when they hear that Harry has accepted to study in that school for 7 years to learn magic. Nami however is still worried and unhappy from the answers she got from not only Dumbledore telling her about Voldermort's near attempt on Harry's life, but from Luffy as well.
To keep the fact, that Harry was there in the battle of Raftel against Blackbeard, and nearly died from using Haki at such a young age, the Navigator/Queen felt betrayed by Luffy for not telling her this the moment it happened. But right now isn't the time for Nami to ponder, especially when the acceptance to Hogwarts is a special moment for Harry and not wanting to ruin it. So, she stayed silent and leans on the ledge of the Sunny's starboard side while watching Harry getting bombarded with questions by the rest of the crew.
"This is very interesting" said Robin with her usual calm smile while her blue eyes gave out a twink of curiosity "So you are already attended to this school by your original parents and you'll be starting term this September?"
"That's right" said Harry "But I need to do some shopping for my school things first, we'll be meeting Hagrid in a City called London tomorrow."
"How will you be paying for all of this, I doubt they accept Beris" said Usopp
"My parents left me everything within their family vault in a bank, I guess" said Harry "All I need to do is make a withdrawal and the rest is simple."
"Do you reckon that Hogwarts may take our children to learn magic?" said Usopp "Just asking, out of curiosity."
"Who knows?" said Robin "I mean if they showed any signs of magic in them, it's unclear to us."
"well, they still have time until they are all 11 themselves" said Usopp while giving Harry a happy pat on the shoulder. "And in the mean time, things will get very interesting with Harry being a wizard on board the Thousand Sunny."
"Not only that, but Dumbledore as offered us to moor the Sunny near the Castle on their lake." Said Luffy "Plus, we'll be having living accommodations if the ministry permits it."
"Oh, thank Oda. We can get to rest peacefully on dry land at last" said Usopp with a sigh of relief. "I can hardly remember what it's like to be around civilization without getting caught in some civil war, or in some criminal conspiracy that would endanger us."
"Why do we need their permission?" said Zoro with a scoff. "We're pirates, we can do what we want."
"Hey, we don't want to antagonise the witches or wizards by breaking their rules." Said Usopp "We're already in trouble with the Navy and the World Government by being pirates AND member of the Pirate King's crew. Plus, this for Harry here, so we can't go around causing trouble."
"Although, I wouldn't mind seeing some witch turn ol' Moss-head into a toad if he does" said Sanji "It might approve his manners."
"Screw you, Love-cook" said Zoro as he turns away from Sanji with scoff. Then again the gunner has a point, Harry has been offered a place to learn not only magic but about his origins before he was mysteriously on board the Sunny when he was just a baby.
"You know what, for Harry I'll be on my best behaviour" said Zoro "But if someone pisses me off, I can't promise anything."
"...Close enough" said Usopp as this is better than nothing from the swordsman.
"It would be a nice start to try out their dishes and learn some recipes" said Sanji while he smokes his cigarette. "Even though I created such fine dished thanks to the All Blue, my quest as a cook never ends.
"Not to mention their medical knowledge" aid Chopper who is excited.
"I am more intrigued with learning more about their history" said Robin "I'm sure this Dumbledore wouldn't mind if I can pay a visit in Hogwart's library, or perhaps give me a job."
"Oh yeah, I'm getting pumped up!" exclaimed Franky while posing as usual.
Everyone laughs as they continue to congratulate Harry, all except for two. Luffy turns to notice Nami leaning by the starboard side of the Sunny with worry and a frown on her face. He sighs at this and makes his way to her, but before he could speak to her, she leaves and make her way to the ship's library without even saying a word. Luffy frowned sadly at this, for she is still mad at him for not telling him about that day at Raftel, and he can't blame her.
It didn't take long for him to be hugged by Hancock from behind and feeling her lips kiss his cheek, but his mind is on Nami at the moment as the rather late confession has but a strain on the relationship between the King and Queen. Hancock suddenly starts to notice this and sighs with minor annoyance.
"Did something happen, my darling?" said Hancock
"Aye, but it's only between us to deal with" said Luffy as he turns to Hancock so that he can greet her properly. "Any trouble while we were out?"
"No, all was calm" said Hancock before pulling her husband deeply in her embrace, letting the side of his face get pressed on her buxom chest. "But rather boring when you were away, why didn't you take me along?"
"I'm sorry, but Nami didn't think that me having two wives while visiting Hogwarts is proper in that world" said Luffy "And we didn't want to ruin the chance for Harry if he does want to apply."
"No doubt an excuse to hare you for herself, damn jezebel." Said Hancock with a jealous frown when she stares at the direction Nami was taken.
Luffy sighs at Hancock and breaks from her embrace to that he can look at her.
"I do wish that you two can get along" said Luffy "We are married together."
"No, I am married to YOU" said Hancock "Just because we share a bed with you, doesn't mean we can kiss and make up."
"It didn't bother you last night, and the nights before that" said Luffy with a cheeky grin.
Hancock blushed by that when her beloved teased her.
"W-Well, I do admit she is beautiful, and I would be happy to bring her to my chambers if she were a proud member of the Kuja during my reign as Empress" said Hancock "But when I learned that there is someone else in love with you, I just can't accept that."
"And yet, you married me, despite me married to her." Said Luffy.
"You think that will stop me?" said Hancock with a raised brow. "I can tolerate you having lovers, but I will not lose Nami being your queen, my Darling."
"I don't mind having two queens" said Luffy
"Luffy, I love you, but you are completely clueless on how we women think" said Hancock while giving Luffy a kiss on the lips. "And whatever you did made Nami upset, I'm sure it's not really your fault."
"You wouldn't say that if you know what happened in Hogwarts" said Luffy as he then walks away.
"Then enlighten me, what happened?" said Hancock
"It's not my place to say, ask Nami if you want to know" said Luffy as he leans forward on the broadside ledge to gaze upon the horizon. "I opened my mouth enough to cause enough upset for today."
With Harry
After answering their questions as he can, Harry heads up towards the children's quarters so that he can get some rest from his fun day at Hogwarts. Sadly, he was denied of this, for when he was about to enter through the door, he was immediately tackled by the new generation and they all start throwing their questions on at Harry.
"Come on, guys" said Harry as he tries to get up but he cannot for he is still pinned to the decking by Tom and Yassop by the arms and his sisters are awkwardly lying on his chest. "Can't this wait until later?"
"No way, you are telling us about Hogwarts, Harry" said Belle "How is it that you're the only one who gets all the excitement while the rest of us don't huh?"
"Yeah, first you're a pirate and now you're going to a school for witches and wizards. Totally unfair, Harry." Said Hinagiku.
"Hey, it's not my fault" said Harry "I was attended before I was even born, by my original parents."
"That's no excuse, you hogged all the fun once again" said Hinagiku as she grabs Harry's cheek and yanks it hard. "unfair, I tell ya. Completely unfair."
"Why are you complaining, you're a Princess of the Pirate King" said Harry
"Who is kept in the dark from the World Government" said Belle with a jealous pout on her face.
"Look, if you ask, maybe mum and dad can take you to our shopping trip tomorrow." Said Harry "Now can you get off me, please?"
"...you better hope she says yes, Harry" said Hinagiku before she, Belle and the others get off Harry so that he can go take a nap in the quarters.
"Yeah, yeah, I hope so too" said Harry as he waves them off while plopping off into his own hammock. "Now if you have anymore questions, can you hold on to them until morning? I rather tired and want some sleep."
The new generation starts looking at each other and murmurs in discussion by this, Harry however didn't give them a chance and falls straight asleep...and there is no way waking him up after that. The new generation cursed in anger and disappointment when they hear him snore softly in his hammock, his uncle's hat tilts over his eyes to signal everyone to NOT wake him up.
"Damn it"
Night
When night arrives, everyone in the thousand sunny are getting ready for bed, all but two people. Zoro is once again assigned to guard duty as he patrols the upper decking of the ship, it doesn't bother him though since he has some energy to spare after going on his usual naps after training, so he doesn't mind patrolling the decks in case of any incoming threats from either the navy or rival pirates brave and foolish enough to against the pirate king.
Speaking of the King, Luffy is not sleeping in the quarters tonight, ever since he confessed about what happened to Harry in Raftel, Nami is not in the talking mood at the moment as she is not happy with this, and not happy with Luffy for not telling her. So, he decided to give Nami some space to calm down, meaning that he'll give Nami the bed to herself...however Hancock isn't happy with this after seeing Luffy leaving as she wanted to join her beloved. But Luffy insisted to be alone also, as he felt ashamed for keeping a vital fact from Nami, not to mention failing as a father.
The Pirate King could not blame Nami for acting this way, though. Raising Harry for years has also reminded Nami of her time being cared for by her adopted mother Bellemere, not to mention losing her by the webbed hands of Arlong when she sacrificed her own life for Nami and Nojiko's safety. This made Nami become rather protected, especially when she learned about how Harry came to be. Orphaned by a dark wizard who wanted Harry dead all because of a prophecy foretelling his death by the hands of the boy, only to die anyway when the curse rebounded from Harry, resulting the irony. But after learning this, the navigator/queen couldn't help but be protective around Harry for he is also orphaned by a cruel evil just like her.
Feeling ashamed for keeping this long, all Luffy can do is keep some distance until Nami is no longer angry, but it is easier said than done for this isn't just some random act of stupidity that would get Nami annoyed and frustrated by him, this is much serious and Luffy knows it. So he'll be sleeping out on the decks for a while, huddled up with a blanket and struggles to fall asleep as he is already missing the warm embrace of his wives. But he needs to do this, to punish himself for betraying Nami by keep this dire secret from her for too long. He sighs by this and close his eyes, hoping that he'll fall asleep soon and get this depressing night over with.
Minutes has passed and he still can't fall asleep, yet his eyes remain closed so that it may help but it doesn't. Suddenly he can hear footprints heading towards him, he assumes to be Zoro patrolling the Sunny's main deck, but then he can feel the blanket around him unfurl and someone leaning on his side. He opens his left eye and to his surprise, Nami is with him, he was about to speak when Nami stops him by pressing her finger on his lips, gesturing him to be quiet.
"We can talk about this in the morning" said Nami before she snuggles into Luffy and falls asleep.
Luffy is still confused by this, but nods in understanding while his eyes soften sadly at his sleeping queen and starts to fall asleep.
Morning
The next day comes for the Thousand Sunny, everyone on aboard are currently awake and are now having breakfast at the aquarium bar, all except the Pirate King and his Queens which did not go unnoticed to everyone as this is the second time Luffy is late for any meal in his entire life. The reason of this is because he and Nami are having a private talk in the quarters, concerning the incident with the battle of Raftel, with the battle with Blackbeard and his crew of cutthroats which resulted Harry in nearly dying from his first use of Haki.
In the meantime, Harry is still unaware of his mum and dad having a tiff in the captain's quarters for he is rather excited for his incoming shopping trip to Diagon Alley. However, his breakfast is becoming disturbed when the new generations start to surround him while he eats his generous helping of scrambled eggs, bacon and triangular slices of toast. He sighs while his mouth is full and has to struggle with swallowing without the risk of chocking before turning to face his sister and friends.
"What?"
"You still owe us answers, Harry" said Hinagiku "About that magic school?"
"Can't it wait until breakfast is over?" said Harry
"oh no, we were generous to let you sleep since you were busy yesterday" said Sora as she then pull away Harry's plate and keep it away from him while Yasopp and Tom held him by the shoulders so he wouldn't move or use his devil fruit powers. "And if you want to eat more before breakfast is finished, you better answer our questions?"
Harry sighed with annoyance while giving Sora an angry leer, which the Vinsmoke girl ignored calmly.
"Fine, what do you want to know?" said Harry
Harry does have any intention of telling the new generations about his visit to Hogwarts and what he learned from it, but he just wanted to eat his breakfast in peace but impaitence got the better of those who dare disturb him. Regardless, he tells him about the castle that's been establish as a school, and that it's been teaching many young witches and wizards for nearly a millennium.
The kids are at awe by this, sure they saw many fascinating (and dangerous) things during their days on-board the Thousand Sunny like sea monsters, mystical creatures and the lot, but what they heard from Harry speak about the things during his tour at Hogwarts would be consider fantasy.
"W-wait, did you say...g-ghosts?" said Yasopp nervously, apparently he inherit some of his father's irrational cowardice, not all when it comes to deadly beasts and the lot, but he is terrified of ghosts...especially when he remembers the time when Perona's unexpected visit, plaguing the ship with her negative hollows.
"Aye, some of them are quite nice, especially that one who is nearly headless." Said Harry who smiles when a certain nearly headless ghost phazing though the walls when Professor McGonagall escorts him and his parents to Dumbledore's office. "Nicholas his name was, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy"
"Wait a moment, how can a ghost be nearly headless?" said Hinagiku with a confused look on her face. "Did he die from a botched up execution or something."
"Didn't ask" said Harry shrugging his head. "But does mumble about not being invited to the headless hunt again, whatever that is."
"C-can we change the subject please?" said Yasopp "Talking about ghosts is not exactly one of my favourite subjects."
"Oh right, because of that time when Perona stowed away on the ship." Said Harry remember the reason why Yasopp is afraid of ghosts. "Ok, what else do you want to talk about?"
"Yeah, you mention Quiddich, what's that?" said Tom
"It's a sport that witches and wizards play on broomsticks" said Harry, he smiles with excitement and glee as the thought of flying on a broom is something he can't wait to do. "I don't know the mechanics of the sport yet, but if it means you fly on broomsticks..."
Everyone rolled their eyes at Harry as they know he LOVES flying, of course he does when he started loving to fly when his mother give him rides on Zeus back home when he is out on his mischievous adventures throughout the Grand Line and the 4 Blues.
"You're more interested in flying than learning magic, aren't you?" said Tom with a raised brow.
"Of course not, learning magic sounds interesting too" said Harry "But can't you ever blame me for loving to fly?"
"No" said everyone with a deadpan expression
"Ever since you were sent in Weatheria with mom, all you want to do is fly" said Belle "Sometimes, I just want to give that bear-guy a piece of my mind for sending you and mom there."
"It's not like he has any choice" said Harry as he vaugely remembers the Pacifista ambush in the Sabaody Archipelago. "Anyway, Kuma saved us from being killed by those things, and Admiral Kizaru."
"All because Dad punched a noble in the face" said Hinagiku
"Don't you mean a pompous blowhard with a superiority complex?" said Belle "Not all nobles are bad"
"Oh right, my mistake" said Hinagiku "Celetrial Dragons are scum."
"Uh huh" said Harry "Can I eat now? I want to do my shopping as soon as possible."
"Fine.." said Hinagiku as Sora returns Harry his breakfast. "But you better pray that were allowed to come"
"Did you ask?" said Harry
Realising this, Belle and Hinagiku left hastily our of the aquarium bar since they forgot to ask Nami and Luffy if they can go.
"Honestly, did they really forget?" said Harry as he goes back eating his breakfast.
Later in London
After breakfast, Harry used his powers to teleport not only Luffy and Nami, but Belle, Hinagiku and Zoro too. The girls asked their moms if they can come with Harry to his shopping trip, Nami is hesitant but that changed when Hancock allowed Hinagiku, and not letting Hancock get the best of her, allowed Belle to some, so not to be seen as a bad mother in front of her rival. Zoro insisted to come as it is his duty to protect his captain from any potential threats, not like he needs any.
He too is allowed, under the condition that he leaves his swords behind. The Swordman of coursed protested, but Luffy told him that the world will not allow anyone to hold weapons as there may be laws against it. Zoro doesn't want to leave his swords, but he does so for it is his captain's orders.
They all appeared with the shade of an alleyway, they all have their change of clothes so not to stick out among the crowd. Luffy is still in his red shirt, but buttons it up to hide his burn mark on his chest and now wearing a pair of black trousers. His hat is also left behind, which Luffy is feeling anxious without it, but Nami reassures him when she, dressed in a white blouse so not look indecent, held his arm in comfort while she whisper in his ears.
"Don't worry, Luffy. You'll get your hat later" said Nami before kissing her husband's cheek. She knows how special the straw hat is to Luffy, and knows what might happen if anything would happen to it.
Luffy nods with reluctance and turns to Harry.
"So what now?" said Luffy to Harry "When will Hagrid come?"
Harry is not sure, however the answer immediately comes when the sound of rumbling turns everyone's attention to the road. After a passing of motorised vehicles known as cars and trucks, there comes what Nami would believes to be motorcycle, and the driver is none other than Hagrid. The motorcyle revs loudly while it drives near the alleyway and parks near it.
"'Ello there, I 'ope I didn' keep ya" said Hagrid
"No, we just got here" said Luffy "Nice bike"
"Oh this? It use to belong to...well it doesn't matter now" said Hargid "All that matters is to get 'Arry's stuff."
"Where to?" said Nami
"This way?" said Hagrid as he starts to jump off the motorbike and starts to lead Harry's family to their destination.
"Zoro, this way" Nami as she knows that the green haired swordsman is going the opposite direction where everyone is going.
Zoro is immediately taken back by this and swiftly follows everyone, and grumbles under his breath.
"Is 'e, alright?" said Hagrid, asking Luffy about Zoro
"Don't mind him, he has a habit of getting lost."
"I do not, it's just that everything around looks the same" said Zoro trying to make an excuse. "Buildings are tall, and you can hardly see the sun."
"Aye, it's a marvel what muggles can do through the years" said Hagrid "Especially what they can without magic."
"You'd be surprised" said Nami "But wouldn't you lot know much at what we can do if you...you know, live among us...muggles?"
"Well, there are those who...prefer the old ways" said Hagrid "Living away from Muggles so not to get into trouble or...other things."
"Like what?" said Zoro
"It's not my place to say, especially when we are here for 'Arry's shopping" said Hagrid "Ah, here we are"
"Huh?" said Nami when she noticed that Hagrid has brought them what looks like an old rundown pub. She looks at the hanging signs and sees it bare. "What is this?"
"This 'ere is the Leaky Cauldron" said Hagrid "Popular place for us magic folk"
"Looks rundown" said Zoro "And I've been places medocre than this"
"Of course you'd see that way" said Hagrid with an amused chortle "Come, this way"
Hagrid opens the door and suddenly, the sign hanging above them starts to show the image and name of the establishment. It may look old and faded, but this is no doubt the Leaky Cauldron and the sound of merriment and music leaks out from inside, proving that the pub is in fact lively. Now convinced, everyone follows Hagrid and enters this unusual pub.
Leaky Cauldron
The pub is bustling with customers, many wizards and witches are sat on their tables, drinking their prefered beverages while conversing with each other. The music played comes from an old gramophone, playing old medieval type tunes which blends with the ambiance. Nami and Luffy looked around and felt some familiarity here, to them is like any tarvern filled with many patrons dying for a drink, some rest and a hot meal.
"I stand corrected, doesn't look half bad" said Zoro as he too feels like home in this pub. Especially when the yearning for drink starts to kick in.
"Told ya" said Hagrid to Zoro
"Ah, Hagrid!" the bartender, who is a middle aged old man, standing behind the counters while ordering drinks to his patrons starts to greet the Half-Giant when he saw him enter. "The usual, I presume?"
"No thanks, Tom" said Hagrid to the bartender. "I am 'ere on offical 'Ogwarts business. 'ere to elp young 'Arry here to gather his school things."
"Bless my soul...it's Harry Potter!" said Tom the bartender when he saw Harry and gasped in shock to see the legendary Boy who Vanished.
And when Tom called out Harry, everyone went silent and turns to the boy immediately, all were shocked to him. The patrons all start to gather around and greet Harry with welcome arms as that reach out to shake the boy's hands. Harry was caught by surprise by this, as well as his family when everyone is happily shaking his hand.
"Welcome back, Harry. Welcome"
"Doris Crockfold, Mr. Potter" an old witch introducing herself to Harry she is next to give Harry a handshake. "It is an honour to meet you at last."
"Er...thanks" said Harry as politely smiles and accepts her handshake.
While Harry recieves many welcomes from the patrons of the Leaky Cauldron, the Straw Hats were also caught by surprise when the witches and wizard immediately gather around to greet their son. Being pirates, people would normally run away and/or alert the authorities should their ship is sighted or even set foot on land. Zoro is being cautious however, and who can blame him. The time when he and his fellow crewmates were greeted in open arms, they were fighting off an army of bounty hunters...or rather he was while the rest were asleep.
Nevertheless, the swordsman is kept an watchful eye on everyone should they had any intent of harming the prince. And being sword-less will not change a thing as he use his own fists, or use brooms/mops as substitutes.
Hinagiku and Belle couldn't believe their eyes, once again their brother is getting more attention by complete strangers.
"I don't belive it, even here Harry is famous" said Belle with a shocked expression.
"Yeah, and not the "AHH, it the vanishing child, get him!" kind." Said Hinagiku, teasing Harry while he remains overwhelmed by the evermore welcomes by the pub patrons.
"Oh shut it, you" said Harry when he is in the middle of a handshake from a short old wizard in a top hat named Daedalus Diggle, who is very enthusiatic when his handshake. He tries to pry his arm out to finish the greeting. Next, a tall, slim man comes to greet him, he is dressed in black robes with a white under shirt and black tie. And on his head is a purple turban that's improperly woven that long parts of it are resting on his shoulders.
"H-Harry P-Pot-ter, it-it is a g-g-great pleasure to m-meet you a l-last" he speaks in nervous stutters while bowing nervously at Harry.
"Oh 'ello there, Professor! Didn' see you there" said Hagrid as he noticed the man in the purple turban. "'Arry, this is Professor Quirrell, he one of the teachers at 'Ogwarts"
"Nice to meet you, sir" said Harry as he offers Quirrell his hand, but the nervous professor doesn't take it and steps back slightly. Seeing that the professor is nervous, he put his hand away and kept his distance so not to make the man uncomfortable. "So, what lession do you teach?"
"D-D-Defence a-against t-the D-d-d-dark art, Mr. P-p-p-p-potter" said Quirrell "Q-quite a f-fascinating subject, not that you n-need it, eh?"
Harry chuckles at the professor as he caught the attempted joke.
"I-I r-reckon your here to g-gather your school things, s-so I won't k-keep you" said Q-Quirrell "I-I best be off m-myself, g-g-got to F-Flourish and B-Blotts to pick up a b-book on vampires."
And like that, Professor Quirrell leaves in quite a hurry.
"What a strange man" said Luffy with a raised brow.
"Aye, is he always that nervous?" said Zoro
"Oh aye, poor bloke. Brilliant mind. He was fine when he was studyin' outta books. But when he took a year off to gain some first hand experience, he came back all nervous and constantly afraid." Said Hagrid "They say he met vampires in the Black Forest, and then there was that nasty bit o' trouble with a Hag- never been the same since. Scared of the students, scared of his own subject."
"Damn, and I thought Usopp is was bad." Said Nami, of course she was exaggerating about the gunner, but it doesn't help but tease him.
"Don't be mean, Nami" said Luffy "Usopp is brave when he needs to be."
"Oh you're no fun" said Nami with a childish pout, this only made Luffy laugh and he give her a kiss on the cheek. "Shall we go then?"
"Aye, come on then." Said Hagrid
"I think it's best that I stay here, knowing her Highness she'll nag at me for getting lost" said Zoro
"I'll pretend I didn't hear that, but you make a good point" said Nami before turning to Hagrid "If that's alright?"
"Not at all" said Hagrid as he rummages through his pockets and pulls out a old leathery pouch to give to Zoro. "Here some sickles for a few drinks."
Hagrid tosses the pouch to Zoro and he catches.
"Cheers" said Zoro after he caught the pouch and makes his way to the counter.
"That will keep him busy for a while" said Nami before she and the others follows Hagrid to the back of the pub. As they exit from the back, they are now at the backyard with a tall wall facing them, there is nothing there but a few barrels and crates, and no other way except for the way they went through.
Hagrid pulls out an old pink umbrella from his pockets an starts to tap on the brick wall several times, each tap are not random however, for they are specifically positions. As hagrid taps the last brick, the wall starts to split and form into an archway.
"There we go" said Hargid before turning to the Straw Hay Family. "Welcome to Diagon Alley."
