Chapter 0
A vast expanse of deep space, speckled with stars. A swirling vortex of energy, a cosmic dance of light and shadow, surrounds two orbs of pure white light. These are the spirits of Firefly and Aether, bound together by an ancient, unbreakable connection.
As they journey through the vastness of space, a blinding flash of light erupts from the heart of each orb. The light expands, enveloping the orbs, transforming them into swirling balls of pure energy. They are pulled towards a distant planet, a blue jewel shimmering in the darkness.
The balls of light plunge through the atmosphere, leaving trails of fire in their wake. As they approach the planet's surface, they are buffeted by powerful winds, tearing them apart. The two balls of light separate, hurtling towards different destinations.
Waves crashing against the shore. The sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and purple. A young girl, no more than five years old, lies on the sand, her eyes closed. She's unconscious, her body still wet from the ocean.
An old man, his face etched with the wisdom of years, walks along the shore with a group of children. He sees the girl and rushes to her side. He gently lifts her into his arms, her small body warm against his chest. He notices a faint glow emanating from her skin, a soft, ethereal light that seems to pulse with life.
The old man carries the girl back to his ducal, where he lives with his family. He tells them that he found her washed ashore, a gift from the sea. They welcome her into their home, tending to her wounds and offering her comfort.
A spacious chamber, bathed in soft sunlight. The walls are adorned with tapestries depicting scenes of battle and courtly life, while the floor is covered in a thick, luxurious rug. A large window, spanning the entire length of one wall, offers a breathtaking view of the sprawling gardens beyond.
Firefly, now a young girl of five, stirs in her bed. Her eyes flutter open, and she stares up at the ceiling, her mind still hazy with sleep. As she becomes more aware of her surroundings, a feeling of wonder washes over her.
She sits up in bed, her gaze drawn to the window. Sunlight streams through the glass, casting a warm glow across the room. She sees birds flitting among the branches of a towering oak tree, their wings catching the sunlight like shimmering jewels.
The room feels alive with energy, as if the sunlight itself is dancing around her. Everything seems to sparkle, from the dust motes floating in the air to the intricate patterns woven into the tapestries.
Firefly reaches out a hand, tracing the intricate carvings on the headboard of her bed. She touches the soft, silken sheets, feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin. She's never seen anything like this before, never felt so much beauty and wonder.
She turns her head, looking around the room. She sees a figure standing in the doorway, a kind-faced old man with a warm smile.
"Where am I?" she asks, her voice small and hesitant.
The old man approaches her, his eyes filled with warmth and affection. "This is your new home, my dear," he says gently. "You are safe here."
