Winter was slowly drawing to a close. Spring weather was about to flourish too. Mimi was out in her garden, singing "O Mio Babbino Caro" in Blossom's voice, and getting out some bulbs for the flowers she wanted to grow. There was nothing Mimi loved more than to garden and sing.
"There you go." Mimi said as she'd finished planting her tulips. "You'll be growing in no time after this."
Mimi set to work planting some bluebells.
"There'll be plenty of blue to go round this spring." Mimi said to herself.
Mimi got out her watering can, and sprinkled some water all over the bulbs. She was really looking forward to spring, as it was her favourite season. While doing so, she had a thought.
"I hope there's enough room for the lavenders."
The following day, Mimi was at her bus stop, ready to go to school. She hummed "O Mio Babbino Caro" in Blossom's voice while waiting for her bus.
"I might go to town after school and buy some pansy seeds." Mimi said to herself.
The bus arrived, and Mimi stepped on, humming her song. Eudora was surprised.
"Does Mimi always sing while she's on the bus?" Eudora asked Sally.
"That's her habit." said Sally. "This is why Linus was attracted to her once."
"So Linus had another girlfriend?" asked Harold Angel.
"She went back to her old town after singing to him on his sixth birthday." said Sally. "So I heard."
"I will admit, Mimi's singing is exquisite." Harold Angel said.
"What about me?" asked Sally.
"Your singing voice is prettier." said Harold Angel.
"Her voice reminds me of a girl made of sugar, spice and all things nice." Eudora said to herself.
Later, at school, while doing a spelling assignment, Mimi continued to hum "O Mio Babbino Caro".
"Mimi." said Mrs. Jones, her teacher. "Must you be humming that song? You're distracting the other students."
"Sorry, Mrs. Jones." sighed Mimi.
Mimi started writing down what words to spell.
"First word; Daffodil."
"This is an easy word." Mimi said to herself.
Mimi wrote the word down.
"I know, because I usually plant daffodils." Mimi thought.
Once the spelling assignment was done, Mrs. Jones called for the whole class to hand in their assignments.
"Sure thing, Miss!" said Mimi.
After Mimi and all the other students handed in their assignments, it was lunch time.
Mimi sat on her own when Eudora came up.
"Hey, Eudora." said Mimi.
"Hi, Mimi." said Eudora. "I couldn't help but hear your singing. It's beautiful."
"Oh, thank you." said Mimi. "My mommy's a singer herself."
"Is that why you love to sing?" asked Eudora.
"It is." said Mimi. "Might wanna follow in my mom's footsteps. Either be a singer or run a greenhouse."
"Tough decision, I see." said Eudora. "Anyway, I heard from Sally you attended Linus' birthday party once."
"I did." said Mimi. "He thought it was his best birthday ever."
"Until Janice threw him a party." came a voice.
The voice belonged to Sally, and she'd arrived with Harold Angel.
"Hey, Mimi." said Harold Angel. "I couldn't help but hear your singing voice. It's the voice of an angel."
"Oh, thank you." Said Mimi. "Another compliment I see."
When lunch had ended, everyone returned to class. Mrs. Jones handed out everyone's assignment back.
Mimi looked nervously at her assignment.
"Don't tell me I failed." Mimi begged.
Mimi held up her assignment, and…..
"I passed. A plus." Mimi said to herself.
"I got an A." Sally said.
"I got a B." said Harold Angel.
"A C for me." Eudora said.
When it was time to go home, Mimi walked home, happy with her spelling score. She was so delighted, she hummed her song. But unbeknownst to her, there was a boy hiding behind a hedge outside her home. Mimi tended to her garden, and hummed her song.
"So beautiful…." said the boy.
Mimi gardened, and gardened, and gardened. Suddenly, Mimi remembered.
"I need to buy some new seeds." Mimi said to herself.
Mimi went inside, and spoke to her mother.
"Mom. Can we go down to the hardware store?" asked Mimi.
"Sure, Mimi." said Jemima, Mimi's mother. "What would you like to buy?"
"Just some more flowers." said Mimi.
So Mimi and Jemima went downtown to Bill's Hardware Store. Mimi looked at the flower seeds.
"Let's see….." Mimi said to herself. "Pansies….. pansies…. not sunflowers, not daisies….. Ah here we go. Pansies."
Mimi purchased her seeds, and she and her mother went home.
"I can't wait to plant these!" said Mimi.
"Mimi, I think it's a little late to be planting." said Jemima. "Maybe tomorrow."
"I guess so, Mom." said Mimi. "Anyway, it'll be a perfect day for gardening, or at least I hope it will.
When they got home, Mimi placed her flowers in the garden shed.
"Pansies, I'll be ready to plant you tomorrow." said Mimi.
And Mimi left the garden shed, and went back inside.
The next morning, Mimi got up bright and early. She went down to have breakfast, cleaned her teeth, and she pulled on her gardening gloves, apron, and her garden hat.
"First thing's first. Water the flowers I planted already."
Mimi got her watering can, and sprinkled water all over her flowers.
"There you go, my tulips and bluebells." smiled Mimi. "All ready for the spring."
Mimi then remembered something.
"Pansies, I'm ready for you." said Mimi.
Mimi went towards the garden shed, and much to her surprise, the door was open.
"That's strange." Mimi said to herself. "I could swear I closed the door yesterday."
Mimi went inside, and was about to pick up her pansy seeds when…..
"My pansy seeds!" cried Mimi. "They're….. gone!"
Mimi searched all over the garden shed for her precious pansies.
"Come on, pansies!" Mimi said sadly.
Mimi ran outside to alert her mother.
"Mommy! Mommy!" cried Mimi. "They're gone!"
"What's gone?" asked Jemima.
"My pansy seeds!" cried Mimi. "Yesterday they were there, but now they're gone!"
"Good grief!" cried Jemima.
"You know what this calls for!" said Mimi.
Mimi went on her phone and called a close friend. The close friend was Janice.
"Hello?" said Janice.
"Janice, it's Mimi!"
"What can I do for you, Mimi?" asked Janice.
"My flower seeds!" said Mimi. "They're…. they're….. gone!"
"You've lost some seeds?" asked Janice. "What kinds of flowers are they?"
"They're pansies, my favourite kind of flower." said Mimi.
"Aren't they in your garden shed?"
"I looked everywhere! They're gone!" cried Mimi.
"Then I'll alert my friends about this." said Janice.
So Janice hung up on Mimi.
"Who was that, Janice?" asked Lindsey.
"It was Mimi." said Janice. "Her flower seeds are missing."
"Are you going to do something about this?" asked Lindsey.
"Yes I am." said Janice. "I'm going to call Linus!"
Janice phoned Linus.
"Hello, Janice?" said Linus. "Mimi's flower seeds are missing?"
Linus called up Charlie Brown.
"Mimi has missing seeds?"
Back at the Forsyth place, Mimi looked around the house for the seeds.
"Mimi." said Emilio, her father. "I don't think they're under the couch."
"They're somewhere!" said Mimi. "They couldn't have gone off on their own!"
Mimi then had a thought.
"Maybe…"
"Maybe what?" asked Emilio.
"Maybe….. Someone stole them!" Mimi said.
Mimi set off outside, looking for her missing flower seeds.
By now, word had spread like wildfire about Mimi's missing flower seeds. Charlie Brown went to Snoopy's old doghouse.
"Could Mimi's flower seeds have gone in here?" wondered Charlie Brown.
As Charlie Brown snuck in, he heard a clearing throat. Charlie Brown looked over and….
"Snoopy?"
Snoopy was standing there, wondering what the Round-Headed Teen was doing in his old doghouse.
"Just…. searching for some flower seeds." said Charlie Brown.
"Hm." Snoopy said. "Huh?"
Snoopy, knowing what flower seeds were, decided to look in his house.
"Snoopy?"
Snoopy alerted Fifi about the missing flower seeds. Fifi decided to whistle for all the Woodstocks to fly over. Snoopy reminded all the Woodstocks to look for some flower seeds, but not to eat any. Woodstock, the leader of the birds, zipped his beak.
Mimi looked all over town, and was surprised to see how fast the news about her missing flower seeds had spread. Mimi arrived at Lucy's place.
"Lucy!" said Mimi. "Have you seen any flower seeds?"
"No." said Lucy. "Linus!"
Linus came outside, surprised to see Mimi.
"Hi, Mimi." said Linus. "No, we haven't found your seeds."
"Oh." sighed Mimi.
"But don't worry. If I do find them, I'll let you know."
"Oh, thank you."
And Mimi left.
"What's the big deal over some seeds anyway?" Lucy wondered.
"Mimi's very dedicated to flowers." said Linus, remembering when he first met Mimi.
Mimi arrived at the Green residence, and there was Emerald, walking out with a plate full of seeds. Mimi, thinking they could be flower seeds, ran towards Emerald.
"NOOOOOOOO!"
Mimi dove and grabbed the seeds.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" demanded Emerald.
"Stopping you from throwing these flower seeds away!" said Mimi.
"Flower seeds?!" exclaimed Emerald. "Those are apple seeds!"
"Apple seeds?!"
"They came out of an apple I'd eaten." Emerald explained.
Mimi looked at the seeds, and….
"Good grief, you're right! Sorry." sighed Mimi.
"You're alright." said Emerald as Mimi handed the seeds back to her.
"Anyway, you might like to plant your own apple tree." said Mimi.
"Sounds like a good idea." said Emerald.
Mimi left Emerald, and went inside as Eugene came downstairs.
"Who was that?" asked Eugene.
"That was a weird girl, looking for some missing flowers." said Emerald. "However, she mistook my apple seeds for flower seeds!"
"Missing flowers….." pondered Eugene. "Mimi!"
Eugene saw Mimi walking away to find if anyone has found her missing flowers.
"Mimi!" Eugene called. "Wait up!"
"Eugene?" said Mimi. "Oh. Hi."
"Mimi. My sister told me you were looking for some flowers." said Eugene.
"Not exactly flowers, but flower seeds." said Mimi. "They're seeds for growing pansies."
"Hmm… no. We don't have any pansy seeds." said Eugene.
"Well, thanks anyway, Eugene." said Mimi.
Mimi came across the Browns' place.
"Mimi?" said Sally.
"Hello, Sally. Have you seen any seeds?" asked Mimi.
"What kinds of seeds?" asked Sally.
"They're for growing pansies." said Mimi.
"Don't recall having grown any." said Sally. "Ask my big brother's dog."
"Okay." said Mimi.
Mimi noticed Charlie Brown feeding Snoopy outside his big doghouse.
"Mimi?" said Charlie Brown.
"Hello, Charlie Brown." said Mimi. "You haven't by any chance given your dog any flowers, have you?"
"No. Why do you ask?" Charlie Brown said suspiciously.
"I was ready to plant some flowers, but the seeds for them have gone missing!" Mimi said sadly. "Now my garden will be desolate without any of those flowers."
"What kinds of flowers are theses seeds for?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Pansies." said Mimi.
"Huh?" Snoopy quizzed, thinking Mimi was calling him and Fifi pansies.
"She doesn't mean you or Fifi." said Charlie Brown. "She means pansies as in flowers."
"Okay. Well, thanks for helping anyway, Charlie Brown."
Mimi left the Brown residence, and Charlie Brown went back inside. Snoopy ran back into his old doghouse and became the World Famous Detective.
"There goes the World-Famous Detective." sighed Charlie Brown.
Snoopy went back inside his new doghouse and told Fifi all about what he was going to do. Fifi knew just the solution. She dashed back to her old doghouse and dressed as a detective herself. Fifi didn't acknowledge that Mimi had gone to Heather Wold the Little Red-Haired Girl's house.
"No, I don't think I have any pansies." said Heather.
"But you could at least show my your back garden." said Mimi. "Maybe my seeds ended up in your backyard somehow."
Heather escorted Mimi into her back garden. Much to Mimi's surprise…..
"Wow! There's a good number of flowers back here." said Mimi.
"Yeah, I helped my mom plant some." said Heather.
"You've grown daisies, roses, violet, but no pansies." sighed Mimi.
"I'm sorry, Mimi." said Heather.
"That's alright." said Mimi. "It was worth a look anyway."
Mimi left Heather's place and went to search another place.
On her way, Mimi ran into Peppermint Patty and Marcie, who were on their way downtown.
"Oh. Heya, Mimi!" said Peppermint Patty. "What's the good word?"
"There's no good word." sighed Mimi. "My pansy seeds are gone!"
"Pansies?" said Peppermint Patty. "Don't recall seeing any pansies."
"Not full grown pansies, seeds for growing pansies." explained Mimi.
"No, didn't take any pansies." said Peppermint Patty. "Didn't see any seeds either. Flowers aren't really my thing."
"I see." said Mimi.
"I think I can help you with this." said Marcie. "Sir, you wouldn't mind if I helped Mimi find her missing flowers, would you?"
"Not at all, Marcie." said Peppermint Patty. "I'll see you later."
So Marcie and Mimi left Peppermint Patty, who made her way downtown.
"So they were pansies you lost, were they, Mimi?" asked Marcie.
"Not full grown pansies." said Mimi. "Seeds for pansies."
Mimi brought Marcie into her garden shed.
"You see, they were in my garden shed, and as I was about to plant them, gone!"
"Good grief!" said Marcie.
"And just after I watered my…"
Suddenly, much to Mimi's surprise…
"My roses! My violets! Where did they go?!" exclaimed Mimi. "These ones couldn't have gone off on their own, now could they?"
"You might want to look at your fence, Mimi." Marcie added.
Mimi looked over and…..
"Good grief, my hollyhocks are gone too!"
"This'll be a very interesting case." said Marcie. "Everyone in Sparkyville's even helping out."
"At least some people care." said Mimi. "Come on, Marcie. We've got some flowers to find."
Out in the Simpson place, Wayne King was walking over with a rose in his hand. He knocked on the door, and Mallory opened it.
"Hello, Wayne." said Mallory. "Oh, is that for me?"
"It is." said Wayne. "For my one and only."
"Oh thank you!" said Mallory. "You are so sweet!"
Wayne was just about to hand the rose to Mallory when…..
"Wait!" called a voice.
"Huh?!" said Wayne.
The voice belonged to Mimi, who'd just arrived with Marcie.
"Where did you get that rose?" asked Mimi.
"From a florist." said Wayne.
"Not from anyone's garden?" asked Mimi suspiciously.
"No gardens." said Wayne.
"Fair enough. That's all I needed to know." said Mimi.
"Mimi, I'll leave you to it." said Marcie.
"Thanks for helping anyway, Marcie." said Mimi.
Marcie left, while Mimi remained at Mallory's house.
"Sorry for misjudging you." said Mimi. "I thought you might have taken my flowers."
"That's quite alright." said Wayne.
So Mimi left Mallory's house, leaving Wayne to give the flower to Mallory.
"You're so wonderful, Wayne!" said Mallory.
Mallory kissed Wayne's left cheek, causing him to blush.
"Where else could my flowers have gone to?" Mimi asked. "I know! The park!"
Shermy was at the park with Violet. They were having a picnic together.
"This picnic has been wonderful." said Violet. "Any chance we'll find Mimi's flowers?"
"I don't know." said Shermy. "Anyway, I have a surprise for you."
"You do?" said Violet.
"Yes." said Shermy.
Shermy handed Violet a bouquet of…
"Violets!" Violet cried.
"I knew you'd like them." said Shermy. "For my one and only….."
"WAIT!" shouted a voice.
"Good grief, here we go!" sighed Shermy.
"Where did you get those violets?" demanded Mimi.
"I got them from the florist." said Shermy. "Why?"
"Because my violets, roses and hollyhocks have gone missing too." said Mimi.
"Oh. I see." said Shermy.
"I guess someone else must've taken my flowers." sighed Mimi.
Mimi left Shermy and Violet to search some more.
"Anyway, Violet." said Shermy. "I bought these just for you."
"Oh, Shermy! They're so beautiful!" said Violet.
"Not half as beautiful as you."
"Oh, Shermykins!"
Mimi thought and thought.
"Maybe someone who likes music might know something about my missing flowers and seeds….." Mimi said to herself. "I know! I'll listen to some music."
Meanwhile, Schroeder was at his place, playing his piano, when Mary Stewart walked in.
"Schroeder, you fascinate me." said Mary Stewart. "Playing your piano, especially with your Beethoven."
Schroeder was greatly flattered.
"Thank you."
But before Schroeder could finish his sentence, Mimi walked in.
"Schroeder, Mary?" said Mimi.
"Oh. Hi, Mimi." said Mary Stewart. "Just listening to Schroeder's music."
"You haven't by any chance taken any roses, violets or hollyhocks?" asked Mimi.
"Not at all." said Mary Stewart. "Why?"
"Because not only have my pansy seeds gone, my roses, violets and hollyhocks are gone to!" Mimi explained.
"Good grief!" said Mary Stewart.
"Anyway, I might take a break from searching for those flowers. I'll listen to some of Schroeder's music while I'm here." Mimi decided.
And that was what Mimi did.
At the Honfleur place, Violette was in her garden, planting flowers of her own. Pierre paid a visit.
"Bonjour, Violette." said Pierre.
"Bonjour, mon Pierre." said Violette.
"How are you getting on after your uncle's passing?" asked Pierre.
"Getting better." said Violette. "Je will admit it still feels weird he's not around anymore."
"Je see you're planting flowers of your own." said Pierre.
"Oui." said Violette.
"Mimi's fleurs have gone missing." said Pierre.
"Ooh la la!" cried Violette. "Mimi's fleurs gone?"
Violette had a thought.
"Maybe someone planted them in ma garden by mistake?" Violette pondered.
"Let's search anyway." said Pierre.
So the two French teens searched Violette's garden.
Mimi had left Schroeder's place, ready to search for her flowers again when she saw Rerun, Katie, Tommy and Frieda. To her relief, they didn't have any flowers on hand.
"Oh, hello, Rerun, Katie, Tommy, Frieda." said Mimi.
"Hello, Mimi." said Rerun.
"Where are you going today?" asked Mimi.
"Just on a double date today." said Tommy.
"We're going to Joe's Burgers." said Frieda.
"Ever since I made Lester my boyfriend…." Katie said.
"Hold on! Katie! You're Rerun's girlfriend now?" said Mimi.
"Sure am." said Katie. "I had the feeling he had feelings for me, and I always had feelings for him too. So I treated him to a date."
"Linus did say something about his brother having a boyfriend." said Mimi. "But out of all the girls out there, I'm glad it was you."
Rerun blushed at this.
"Well, have fun on your double date." said Mimi. "I'm searching for my missing flowers."
"Good luck on your search, Mimi." said Tommy.
Mimi tried everything she could. She searched Violette's place, Franklin's place, Tapioca Pudding's place, even Patty Swanson's place.
"It's no use!" sighed Mimi. "I'll never find my flowers! Unless….."
Mimi went to Pig-Pen's place, knowing he was always dirty, and flowers love dirt. She found Pig-Pen in his sandpit.
"Mimi!" said Pig-Pen.
"Hello, Pig-Pen." said Mimi.
"What brings you here?" asked Pig-Pen.
"Just wanted to see if you had any flowers." said Mimi. "Any hollyhocks?"
"No hollyhocks." said Pig-Pen.
"Any roses?"
"None."
"Any violets?"
"None."
"Any pansy seeds?"
"None at all."
"Good grief!" sighed Mimi. "Now I'll never find my flowers. I'll have to give up and go home."
Mimi went home, feeling very sad indeed.
"My world is so desolate now. My flowers are gone, I'll never get my pansies growing, and my hollyhocks…"
But when Mimi got home, she got the biggest surprise of all.
"Huh?!"
There was a boy in a garden hat, holding in his hand a bouquet of roses, hollyhocks and violets.
"Y…..you?!" cried Mimi.
"I sure did." said the boy. "For you."
"But….. why?" asked Mimi.
"You're the most beautiful girl ever!" said the boy. "Your looks, your work, especially your singing is so beautiful!"
"Oh thank you!" said Mimi. "But what about my pansy seeds?"
"I'm growing them in my own garden." said the boy. "Just for you."
The boy handed Mimi the bouquet, and she smelt them.
"Oh, thank you!" said Mimi. "You are so sweet… I'm sorry, I didn't get your name."
"I'd be delighted." said the boy. "My name is Forest. Forest Adamson."
"I'm Mimi. Mimi Forsyth. It's nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you properly." said Forest.
"But who's going to fix my garden?" asked Mimi.
"Leave it to your friends." said Forest.
The next day, everyone had arrived at Mimi's garden, ready to plant it for her by replacing some flowers that Forest had taken from her. Violet planted some violets, Frieda planted some pink roses, Patty Swanson planted some cowslips, Linus planted some more pansies, Charlie Brown planted some daffodils, Lucy and Sebastian planted some bluebells, Heather Wold planted some heathers, Janice planted some heliotropes, Schroeder and Mary Stewart planted some buttercups, Marcie planted some foxgloves, Peppermint Patty planted some sunflowers, Franklin planted some orange roses, Violette and Pierre planted some poppies, Lydia planted some extra pansies, Katie and Rerun planted some daisies, Sally planted some lavenders, and Shermy added some red roses.
"This is wonderful! Having friends plant my garden for me!" said Mimi.
When all was done, Pig-Pen walked around, covering all the flowers in dirt.
"So creative!" said Mimi. "A boy covered in dirt covering my seeds in dirt!"
"As I always say, a little dirt never hurt anyone." said Patty Swanson.
Once Pig-Pen had finished covering the seeds in dirt, Mimi got a watering can and watered everything.
"Before we know it, I'll have new flowers in no time." Mimi said happily.
While watering, Mimi sung "O Mio Babbino Caro" in Blossom's voice, while Forest watched on with wonder.
"So exquisite!" Forest said to himself.
When Mimi had finished, she walked up to Forest and kissed his left cheek. Forest blushed as red as a rose, only for Mimi to giggle.
Over at the Van Pelt place, Lucy looked exhausted, planting all those flowers.
"Who would've thought planting new flowers would be so difficult?" asked Lucy.
"That's the garden life for you." said Linus.
"And who would've guessed someone would steal some flowers just for love?" asked Lucy. "Eaves me no time to go to my Sebastian's place."
"You'll see him again." said Linus. "At school, at his place, anywhere."
Just as he said this, the phone rang. Linus went to answer it.
"Hello?" said Linus.
"Linus! It's Mimi.
"How's the garden?"
"Going good so far." said Mimi. "And you know something?"
"What?" asked Linus.
"I might be in love!" Mimi said.
Mimi hung up, and lay on her bed, thinking all about Forest, and why he'd taken her flowers and her seeds, just to impress her.
