"Ready?" Camille asked softly. Logan nodded slowly. "Yes."
"You can start."
Logan took a deep breath, then leaned against the tree in their garden, trying to take a relaxed and casual posture. He wore dark pants and a white shirt with a black tie. He looked into the camera. Camille nodded. And Logan began his statement, "Hey everyone. It's me, Logan. I know, I'm not really active on social media and I bet you're all thinking now, well, if he suddenly makes this video, then there must be some news, right? Well, you're right, but I'm afraid you won't like it. A lot has happened in my life in the last few years, I'm married, I have two wonderful children. And they are just one of the reasons why I am speaking to all of you today. I want to say goodbye. I'm going to leave Big Time Rush."
He hesitated, lowered his head. For a moment he thought about starting all over, but then he decided that the fans should see how hard this news was for him. He continued, "You may wish this was just a joke, but it's not. And believe me, the whole thing is incredibly difficult for me, because I can almost see the disappointment in your faces, feel the disappointment in your hearts."
He put a hand on the spot where his own heart was. "You all changed my life in a way that I can hardly describe. There are not enough words in the world that can express how grateful I am to have been able to sing for you. I will always cherish the memories we have experienced together. But now it's time to take a different path in life. You might be wondering what am I going to do instead? Well, I'm sure you already know, you've always known it, haven't you? But to be clear, I'm going to take the path that was always meant for me and become a doctor, just like my dad. It has always been my biggest dream and now is the right time to take this chance. Of course I hope that you will continue to be by my side during this new adventure, my social media accounts will remain active, but in the future it will probably be less about music and the band, and more about an overwhelmed doctor, dad, and husband. So it certainly won't be boring. And will I still be in contact with the other guys from BTR? Well, of course . . . I mean, do you have any idea how hard it is to find suitable babysitters in L.A.?"
He smirked. "Just kidding. Kendall, James and Carlos are my brothers, always and forever. But they are not only brothers, but also proud uncles, and they understand my decision and they stand by me, and I can't tell them how grateful I am for that. And now I have to take back my words from the beginning. This isn't a goodbye, it's a new beginning, for all of us."
Once again, he paused for a moment. "Well, last but not least, I would like to share something very personal with you. Before Big Time Rush, I was practically a nobody, a boring, shy nerd, with social anxiety and more insecurities than you can imagine. That's how you got to know me. And then you did something for me that I will never forget. You accepted me. More than that, you never wanted me to change, always loved me the way I am. And your trust, support and love has given me confidence over the years. Me and the guys always read your messages about how much Big Time Rush has changed your life. Well, what can I say? You changed my life as well, and thanks to you, it is the best life anyone could ask for. And without you, I wouldn't be the person I am today. So thank you, guys, thank you for letting me spend all these great years with you. It was an honor to sing for you." He took a bow. "I love you guys, always and forever."
Logan sighed. "You got everything?"
Camille nodded. "Yes, do you want to see it?"
He stepped up to her and watched the filmed video. He frowned. "It seems a little stiff, doesn't it?"
"No, baby, it's perfect," Camille assured him, resting her chin on his shoulder. "But would you please do me a favor?"
"What favor?"
"I know, it's actually a wasted effort to ask you this, but . . . please do yourself a favor and don't read the comments. I mean, of course you should read them, just not right away. Take your time."
"I'm not sure if I can promise that . . ."
"I know," she whispered and kissed his cheek.
Logan sat on the couch, Camille right next to him. He counted the seconds, took a deep breath, even his hands were shaking. "Three . . . two . . . one . . ." He posted the video, his heart and breath stopped. He swallowed, wondered if he should still read the first comments, then he decided that Camille was right, and put his phone on silent. At the same moment, Camille's cell phone made a notification sound. Logan raised an eyebrow. "You get an alert as soon as I post anything?"
"Of course. I'm your biggest fan, remember?"
"Right," he replied with a slight smirk, pulling her onto his lap. His eyes wandered to his phone. Camille noticed it, leaned forward, and placed it out of his reach. "Not today."
"Soon it will be all over the internet."
"True."
He closed his eyes, felt her hand running through his hair.
"Do you regret it?"
"I regret that I have to disappoint the fans. I regret that this exciting and valuable time is over. But I don't regret my decision. Even though it's hard, so, so hard."
"I'm proud of you."
He opened his eyes. "Really?"
"Yes." Then she leaned forward and kissed him. And he kissed her back, already feeling a little better. It went on for a while, until the ringtone of Camille's cell phone startled them. She looked at the display. "It's Kelly."
Logan frowned. Camille just shrugged and accepted the call, "Kelly? . . . No, he's sitting right next to me . . . Yes, I took his phone away from him . . . Exactly . . . Yes, sure, one second." She handed Logan the phone. "Hello? . . . Yes . . . Okay, when? . . . All right, I'll be there . . . Yes? . . . Oh, yeah, thank you . . . Yes, see you soon. Bye."
"What did she say?"
"The management has already taken care of a few possible dates for a press conference. I'm supposed to come to the studio in the next few days so that the guys and I can prepare for the questions. It's getting serious now."
"You know, if you need anything . . ."
"Yes, I know," he whispered, taking her hands, kissing them gently.
Logan stepped up to the microphone, feeling the presence of his bandmates behind him and was glad about it. Without them, he wouldn't have been able to be here. "Hello everyone. Thank you so much for coming to our press conference. We will do our best to answer all your questions satisfactorily."
He had spent the last few days preparing for all possible questions with the management team and was now confident that he would get through this conference without any problems. And as soon as he finished speaking, the questions started.
"Logan, will you ever go back to music?"
"It's difficult to go back to something that is constantly a part of you. BTR and music will always be a part of me, so you never know. We'll see what the next few years bring."
"Was it your own intentional decision to leave the band?"
"Yes, it is my own decision. I have been thinking about this possibility for a while and I think now is the best time to take this step."
"What do you think about the fans' reactions?"
"I read all their comments. And they were really thoughtful, sweet and supportive. Also sad and disappointed, of course, but the fans know that they could always count on us, and that's why I know I can count on them as well. I am very grateful for their loyal support."
"What do your friends and family say about this decision?"
"Just like my fans, my friends and family support my decisions, and they are excited to join me on this new journey."
"Have you gotten any job offers yet?"
"At the moment I don't have a specific location where I can pursue my calling. But I am positive that it is only a matter of time before I can do what has always been my biggest dream. I've already graduated from medical school, now I just need to take the next step."
"Do you regret your time in Big Time Rush? Would you rather have done something else instead?"
"No, I don't regret it. Because it was one of the most impressive times of my life."
In between, questions were also asked to the other members of BTR.
"What was your reaction after you found out about Logan's decision?"
Kendall spoke up, "I can honestly say that we weren't particularly surprised. We've known Logan long before BTR, and he always wanted to be a doctor. So we always knew it would happen sooner or later."
Carlos continued, "Logan has always supported us with the band, even though being a pop star may not be his greatest strength. But no matter how hard it was, he was always there, and now it's time for us to do the same thing for him, we support him one hundred percent."
And James added, "Logan is the smartest, most skilled guy I know. And if there's anyone who was born to be a doctor, it's him. He'll make us proud with his achievements, I'm sure of it."
"So what does it mean for Big Time Rush if Logan is no longer there?"
James answered, "We will now focus more on solo stuff 'cause we all agree that it would be strange to sing together if one voice is suddenly missing. So our fans will continue to receive music from us."
"Does this mean Big Time Rush will be over now?"
Kendall cleared his throat. "No, that's not right. Because the four of us are Big Time Rush. And as long as the four of us are together, BTR will always be alive. Big Time Rush is not just the name of a band, Big Time Rush is friendship, brotherhood, family, and these things will always exist. Just like BTR."
More and more questions were asked, so at some point it wasn't just Logan who reached his limits. He looked behind him and caught Kelly's eye. She nodded and relief spread through him. He raised his hand. "Thanks again to everyone who showed up today. I'm sure all questions have now been answered. If there are still some unanswered questions, please contact our management."
Suddenly Kendall stepped up and put an arm around Logan's shoulders. "There's one more thing to say. A week from today we will have a concert here in L.A., one last concert with the four of us together. Admission free and for anyone who cannot be there on that day, we will stream the concert live on the internet so that all Rushers worldwide can see it. And I can assure you that it will be a concert we will never forget."
They stood together after the conference until Kelly joined them. "Logan, we need to talk to you for a moment."
Logan nodded and followed Kelly. James looked around searchingly. "Ah, there she is."
Kendall and Carlos followed his gaze and together they approached Camille.
"Hey Camille, do you want to do us a favor?" Carlos asked in a good mood.
"What favor?"
"Well, let's say it's a little present for Logan, a goodbye present. But we need your help for that," Kendall said.
"I'm all in for it. What do you need?"
With big grins on their faces, the guys explained their plan.
