Kim had worked with the Go City PD on several occasions, so they were pretty familiar with her. When she contacted them, they agreed to send a squad car over to bring her and Bonnie to headquarters. Before long, the two girls were at the station and speaking with Detective Edwards, commander of the department's vice unit.
"That's definitely Amelia's car," he agreed, looking at the footage. "We've caught her with her customers in there on multiple occasions."
"So she's definitely our top suspect," Kim said. "What can you tell us about her?"
"We know that Amelia's street name is 'Succubus'—that's a kind of female demon. She's addicted to heroin and uses prostitution to support her habit. She seems to be quite popular with the gentlemen, but we consider her very dangerous. On the street, she has a reputation for being extremely violent if crossed. She once attacked a customer with a knife when he tried to shortchange her."
"But what would she want with a seven-year-old?" Bonnie asked worriedly.
Detective Edwards sighed grimly. "That's the million-dollar question. Amelia's crimes haven't involved children before, but drug addicts are capable of doing pretty awful things for a fix. She might want to use him to pleasure her customers. She might be planning to sell him to a human trafficker. There are a lot of really bad possibilities."
"Oh God, no," Bonnie whimpered as she buried her face in her hands and started to cry. The reality of her sweet baby brother being at the mercy of this monster was just too horrible for her to even think about. Sympathetically, Kim put her arm around the other girl's shoulders. "I'm really sorry, Bonnie," she said gently.
"We'll do everything we can," the detective assured her. "The two of you have actually helped us out a lot. Now that we've got this video evidence, we'll be able to get a warrant for Amelia's arrest. Abducted child cases are always our top priority, so we'll move in as soon as we can."
Amelia's House
Sirens blaring, three police cars pulled up to the decrepit house on 445 Sycamore Street. Kim sat in the backseat of one of the squad cars, ready to spring into action, Bonnie sat next to her, silently praying that Johnny was okay.
"Police!" yelled one of the officers. "Open up! We have a warrant to search the premises!"
There was no answer. The police responded by forcing the door down and charging in, and after a few minutes they called out that the house was all clear. That was Kim and Bonnie's cue to get out and come inside, and the girls hurried in through the front door. The place was a mess, and Bonnie wrinkled her nose in disgust at how bad it smelled. Glancing in the kitchen, she yelped in disbelief. "You guys, look!"
"What is it, Bonnie?" Kim turned to see the brunette pointing to the kitchen counter. On it was a child's blue lunch box decorated with a cartoon dinosaur. Bonnie looked back at Kim and the officers, tears streaming down her cheeks. "That's Johnny's lunch box! You see how it has JR written on it? For Johnny Rockwaller? I'd recognize it anywhere!"
One of the officers went over to the lunch box and opened it. Inside the lunch box was a large bag of drugs, causing Bonnie to gasp in utter horror. Kim bit her lip at the new discovery, starting to worry that they might have been too late. "Is—is there anything else in the house?" she asked the officers.
"There were no other drugs in the house, but we did find that the drawers in the bedroom dresser were open and empty. It looks like Amelia's skipped town," the lead officer said. "Since the boy's lunch box is here, she must have brought him to the house at some point and then fled with him. At this point they could be anywhere."
Bonnie's mouth opened but no sound came out. At this point they could be anywhere. It was like Johnny had disappeared all over again. With Amelia on the run, how in the world could they find him now? She began to physically tremble as she turned to Kim. "Kim—Johnny—I—"
"Bonnie, hang in there. There's one other thing we can do."
That left Bonnie very surprised. "There is? What are you thinking?"
Broadening the Search
"Everyone, come on over!" Mrs. Rockwaller called urgently to her daughters. "Kim's about to come on the air."
It was now late afternoon, and Bonnie had been taken home by the Go City PD. Kim would be coming on at 3 PM, and there was no way any of the Rockwallers were going to miss this. All of them hurried to the television set and turned it on. At 3 PM, the national news stations started breaking the news that the world-famous hero Kim Possible had an important announcement. Very soon, the redhead herself appeared on screen.
"Good afternoon," she told the camera. "You know me as Kim Possible, a teen hero who saves the world. But today, I'm asking for you to be heroes. A little boy is missing from my hometown of Middleton, Missouri, and his family needs your help to find him."
The picture shifted to Johnny's photo, which filled the screen. "This is Johnny Rockwaller," Kim narrated. "He disappeared yesterday on his way home from school. Surveillance footage shows that he disappeared into this black car." As she spoke, the footage from the gas station came on screen, clearly showing Johnny walking home and disappearing into Amelia's car. Mrs. Rockwaller and her older daughters both audibly gasped as they watched. Even though Bonnie and the police had filled them in already, seeing it for themselves was still shocking.
At that point, Amelia's mugshot filled the screen. "Police believe this woman, Amelia Henderson, was responsible for the kidnapping. She's known to be a heroin addict and prostitute, and goes by the name 'Succubus' on the street. She has a tattoo of a female demon on her left forearm, and police say she should be considered armed and extremely dangerous."
Kim then appeared on camera again. "If anyone watching has seen either Johnny or Amelia, please call the number on your screen or your local law enforcement agency. Thank you so much for your help." She paused, and seemed to choke up a little. "And Johnny, if you're watching this, I want you to know that your mommy and big sisters love and miss you very much."
Lonnie wiped tears away as Kim's announcement ended. "Bonnie, that friend of yours—she's an angel," she said gratefully. "You said this is being aired nationally?"
Bonnie nodded. "Kim's famous enough that she has contacts in the national media. That's letting us broaden our search to the whole country. Wherever Amelia's taken Johnny, she won't be able to blend into the background."
"Thank God you thought to ask her for help," Connie said as she wiped her own tears. "I—I don't know how we can ever thank her enough for what she's doing for us."
Bonnie bit her lip. She guiltily thought back to her rivalry with Kim and the long hostility between the two of them through the years. It was hard for her to believe that after all that, Kim would go to such lengths to help her family. That was truly incredible, and Bonnie would never, ever forget it.
"I don't either, Connie," she said softly. "I don't, either."
