History and Warnings
The Purple Dragon, the human, Snow leopard and the Dragonfly stood in awe of the great dragon. The very one that had started three of them on the journey from the Dragon Temple and, Zima was picked up along the way. The Culmination of every fight they encountered. All their closes calls and two of them regaining their powers across the quest they were on. They finally made it to the Chronicler. Now everything they believed could possibly be alright. The Chronicler had to know of the coming darkness as he was claiming throughout.
Sparx was the first to speak up flying close to the ancient dragon. "Well, I hope we didn't keep you waiting too long. We got a little held up back there with the…uh…RIDDLES OF DOOM!" Bellowed the Dragonfly. He has been in danger far too much in this journey and he didn't know who to truly blame it on. His family. His friends. Their enemies or possibly the Chronicler himself as they would not have gone on this journey if he didn't get into the minds of his two closest friends.
Adir nodded agreeing with Sparx what he had endured with his darker half and unclear what, Spyro and Zima had faced they all came to this place for answers and all they got from the beginning was a journey that took them across so many dangerous paths. How come he didn't bring them there to begin with? Or gave them a real sign? "I must agree with Sparx. You know full well on all that we have came across and we fought so hard to get here. And when we finally arrive we were put through some kind of test that may have killed any one of us?"
The Chronicler nodded rather apologetically. "It was a necessary evil. I had to be sure, Adir." The Ancient Dragon replied though Adir was not satisfied by the answer. Zima then stepped forward. She may not have been part of the journey her friends have been on the entire way, but she was with them now and she had to say her side.
"Please. They all had suffered tremendously on their journey to you. I must say you owe them the answers they came for." She pointed out and the human and purple dragon smiled at her. She was a good friend, and they appreciated her input.
The Chronicler gave them a gloomy look. It was unfortunate they all had been put through so many trials that could have resulted in their deaths. If there was another way he would have told them but there wasn't.
He began to walk past them. "I am sorry my young friends. You have come here through peril and torment. I shall give you the answers you deserve." He continued to walk very slowly. Despite how ancient the dragon looked he walked as if age never mattered to him. "I have not had any visitors in my solitude for over a thousand years."
All of the others were very shocked. By now it was clear how long a dragon would as told by the guardians to, Spyro and Adir along with his family and Sparx of when a dragon starts from an egg and reach their eldest years but for the Chronicler he far outlived any dragon, and he talks about not having any visitors for over a millennium.
Sparx was surprised as well as frustrated. "Shocker! Maybe if you gave any else a more welcome greeting at the door than sending them through portals to their possible deaths maybe you might be a better neighbor to visit!" Groaned the dragonfly but the others were still quite surprised to hear that.
"You been here this long?" Asked Adir so surprised.
The Chronicler stopped and sat down looking down at the warrior. "Oh, yes…but I have my books. And I watch and wait. And listen for things to come…and then add them to the books of time." Explained the Chronicler.
"You said you even have books on humans? As in from my world? My Realm so to speak?" Asked Adir curiously.
"Yes. From the start of your very race. Following your races rise from the primitive state you were in to the technological marvels where your race stands now." Replied the Ancient Dragon.
Adir couldn't believe it. The Chronicler has seen and documented everything about mankind. Their entire history itself?! It was incredible! The Answers to so many questions that baffled even the greatest of scholars and philosophers. All that can be known is in these great halls. He was almost tempted to find the truth behind those questions but then he looked down at his left hand looking upon the mark upon it. The Mark has been with him since the day he was born. It had a meaning behind it and though it was told that it meant he was the purple dragon samurai. What did it truly mean?
The Chronicler took notice of his face seeing his eyes were longing for answers. "You wish to know from where you come from? To know of the organ of your powers, young Adir?"
Adir looked up at him along with the others. It was true though Adir has been a great warrior throughout the entire journey and the one beforehand even they did not know much more about his origin than, Adir himself.
"I do! Can you show me? I want to know the truth." Asked Adir not sure where this will go but if he could learn of where it all started then having that answer may give him closer.
"Of course. But I warn you that the tale of your ancestors is a tragic one." Warned the Chronicler.
"Well, it's not a bedtime story without some peril what's not to expect." Scoffed Sparx but his friends only glared at him.
"Don't be rude, Sparx this is Adir's history. He knows as little as we do. We should give his ancestors respect." Exclaimed Spyro.
"Yes, his ancestors had to have done great deeds in order for him to be here now. Whatever the tragedy it still allowed him to exist and if he did not exist would any of us be here now?" Pointed out Zima and, Adir only smiled at the two who supported him. It meant a lot that they both had given such praise. He never thought too high of himself. He only ever was glad to assist. But perhaps it was true if he wasn't around then he would have saved, Spyro or Sparx or even, Zima either?
Sparx folded his arms rolling his eyes as the Chronicler brought a large book from one of the shelves levitating it towards the group with a hard cover made of the four colors of the elements and it opened up before them. The second the words were shown did the minds of all four of them present could actually see past all the paragraphs and could see a world clear as if they were floating around it and could see an event unfolding before them in an ancient land from hundreds of years before, Adir was even born. But first they saw the dragons were using what had to be a portal activating from a group of Dragon gems that created a vortex that led to another realm.
"What is that anyway?" Asked Adir. "I recall seeing that the first time when I came into this world, but I haven't seen it since then."
"That is a portal." Answered the Chronicler. "Our Ancestors understood that there many realms out in the vastness. To travel to any one of them would require a tremendous amount of magic that can be used within the gems. Focused correctly and upon finding the precise location the portals could take who entered through them anywhere they desired. Your Realm was one of many that were found. Our Ancestors wished to explore and expand. To learn more of it and make contact with the natives to understand them. However, one of the guardians who entered it first found hostility."
They bore witness to an injured red dragon surrounded by human bandits. Dead set on slaughtering the winged beast that came upon the lands, but the criminals were surprised by the coming for humans. A Man and his wife along with their of aged children with sword and bow in hand having been on a hunt but heard the commotion and noticed the injured creature and at the mercy of scum. They struck hard and fast saving the dragon and once every bandit was dealt with did they turn towards the creature with curiosity and pity over its injured state.
"Are those my?" Adir asked seeing the entire scene unfold like a movie playing through his mind and that of those with him.
"Yes, Adir. Those are you Ancestors." Confirmed the Chronicler his voice telling the tale of, Adir's bloodline. It may have existed far beyond the four they could see but this was where his bloodline truly changed.
They all watched as the dragon spoke to them. Surprised that he could speak fluently, and the dragon praised them for their courage and their commitment to protect even those that are foreign to them. The Dragon commended their bravery and sensed their nobility and desire for good. His brethren soon appeared from the skies above. Yellow, blue and green. The Guardians of that age who were the first to step into the realm where humans resided. With having come to expand their realms and for what the four did for their very own they needed those of the realm to assist them. To protect them from those that would harm them. To learn of the new realm, they wished to explore. They granted their new friends the powers of the elements with the very marks his own family and himself had upon their hands. With the color representing the power they now wielded.
Adir and his friends were fascinated. This was the true origin of his ancestors. It happened during the medieval times! It made sense as most tales involving dragons always had come from that age. A Time where the world was in a state of fear and kingdoms rising and falling. Tragedy's and wars waged, and the innocent suffered. His Ancestors were the Royals of their own kingdom. A Kingdom they protected and ruled with justice and brotherhood between their subjects.
With their newfound powers and having gained mighty friends that were kept secret from all else they were trained in the use of the elements but a world so young and far unknown to both the royal family and the dragons themselves they set on an adventure across the entire world. Seeking out cultures and learning of their ways and forms of fighting styles. From the Viking clans to the north. To the Monks of the Shalon ways to the east among much more from every direction and as their journey took them further east did they come across the last bit of known land in its time they came across the land of the rising sun Feudal Japan.
The Land that was under a civil war. The Emperor of its time was under siege from a tyrant bent on slaying the peace-loving Emperor to usurp the throne and lead Japan into an age of tyranny. Adir's Ancestors could not stand by and allow this evil to take hold. They saved the Emperor from assassination. Repelled the siege and took the offense against the Tyrant slayed him on behalf of a grateful Emperor who praised the royal family for saving not only his life but for all of Japan.
In gratitude he bestowed upon them the title of Dragon Samurai. They fought with honor and in service of their lords the Dragons. They used their magic to destroy the evil warlord and his wicked army and protected the innocent with no thought of reward for their deeds. The Title was well placed as it became their new sacred name. The Dragon Samurai who would from then on be kept a secret only given those whom they could trust with their secret. The Emperor and the few that knew of them would forever honor their friends and their heroic deeds by keeping their vow and would welcome their visitation again should they ever return but before they had gone they trained in the ways of the Samurai by grateful masters who would have died with shame and dishonor for failing their homes and families should the arrival of such noble family from a foreign nation had ever come to their rescue.
"Incredible!" Marveled Adir hard to believe his own ancestors were given such power and that they journeyed across the known world at its time. Learning more than what the known figures across that age would have known.
"I'll say." Sparx agreed. "You may have royal blood, but I am still a god!" He gloated but the young warrior only shook his head.
As the story continued to unfold before them they saw the royal family continuing to train under the guardians in secret as they soon learned more as the years went by protecting their kingdom from threats and disease. It seemed they were not ageing as fast as any human would. Their time across the world and having fought so many armies and have taken some of worst of hits that would have undoubtably killed a lesser person did the family realize they were not truly human anymore.
Adir then looked at his own mark again. The Mark was not just a symbol of the elemental ability, but it meant a lot more. Recalling the battles he fought how he managed to take hits that would have undoubtably killed him. Down the very day he was attacked by Cynder and thrown off the cliff. How he still remained alive even after so much loss of blood and the physical injuries being so severe, yet he lived long enough for help to come to him, and they healed with a collection of herbs and bandages and soups.
"Wait! Does this mean I am..." Quizzed Adir.
"Yes, young Adir. You are part dragon. What you have endured has shown that you have fully adapted to your dragon half. The Durability. Your strength. You're hearing. Your senses have far outgrown your human side. You have come far in a short time." Explained the Chronicler and Adir gasped in shock and his friends looked at him in surprise.
"Half Dragon? Ha!" Scoffed Sparx. "If he is half I don't see any wings or scales! You keeping it all hidden in yourself buddy?"
Adir shook his head. "No! I got none of that. But I should have realized something was wrong about many things. I could take hits, but I didn't know how it was possible with some of them would shattered my bones or been the end of me." It was so much that he almost fell over but Zima caught him.
"You're a lot more special than you realize." She smiled at him. "Born with such privilege and you're using it to help others that is noble. Just like we are seeing with your ancestors."
Spyro nodded. This was quite the revelation. Adir had come from a strong line of warriors. He had it in him all along and he didn't realize it. "Your heritage is impressive, Adir. You should be quite proud of it."
"I am!" Adir replied happily but then he turned his gaze back to the book. "But I and the rest of my family had no idea. We knew nothing about them! Our abilities and ties to dragons. I don't understand why we didn't in the first place?"
The Chronicler frowned knowing what would come next would undoubtedly cause Adir grief. He and the others watched as the Royal family continued to rule their kingdom keeping their dragon ties and abilities a secret. Venturing off to neighboring lands ensuring peace and prosperity. However, the scenes suddenly changed when the people of the Anderson kingdom stormed the halls with torches and spears. Shouts of heresy and demon worship. They had discovered the truth of what their own royals were, and they considered devilry.
The King and his Queen along with the princess though the Prince was nowhere to be found were sent to be hung in the square of their own castle. But before the execution would be begin a group of people who did not support in having the family killed after they lived in a prosperous time stormed the square upon horses one of them carrying a baby in their arms and managed to save the princess from the noose and took her and the baby that was hers out of the castle but they could not save the King and Queen from the fate that befallen him. They only smiled as their daughter was with those they had entrusted their secret. There were few who know about their power and earned their trust. Their loyalists saved their bloodline, and they showed no malice to the people who had turned on them. Fear was an overwhelming emotion and when one feels it the only way they could do anything about is to destroy what makes them afraid.
The Execution went on and they hung until they died. The Kingdom fell into chaos and the Princess had given her child to the prince she called her husband from a kingdom nearby. She left with her loyalists leaving the prince to care for their baby with him storming off into the wilds knowing with the secret exposed it would be a matter of time before the same tragedy would befall his own kingdom and from then on the child was raised in the wilds and when manhood had come he ventured off into world where the bloodlines continued to survive for generations but the secret of the ties to the dragons faded and from then on knowledge that should not have been forgotten was lost.
The Guardians of the time could do nothing for those they called their friends. A terrible uprising came from their realm and their plans for expansion could not be and every dragon was called back to their world to fight against the one who now threatened the existence of all but they never forgotten their old friends and the prophecy was written that the descendant of the ancient warriors would arise and assist the purple dragon to stand with him against the coming darkness that was Dark Master and a dark cloud was coming over the land with a horrifying silhouette of a dragon them.
Adir collapsed to his knees his eyes wide in horror. "Their own subjects betrayed them!" He cried. "They killed them! After everything they did for them! They judged them despite living well! How could they?" Whimpering he put his hands over his face. Humanity always quick to judge something frightens them. Even when living a time of peace under those that looked out for them. Why didn't they fight back? Save themselves? They could have but they choose to die, and the Princess was saved only due to the actions of those that knew their secret and were given a sacred trust. It only a couple dozen of them but trust had to have been earned somehow and it was good of them to risk their own lives to save those they cared for only to save one.
Zima got down on her knee's wrapping her arms around Adir. She sympathized with him. It was horrible. To be treated so unfairly by those they lead with honor. Spyro and Sparx were equally horrified. Adir's own ancestors were ruined by their own people. They misjudged them and killed them simply for having abilities they made them afraid. Though one could say it was good that the one who got away left her child in the hands of one she loved, and he alone took care of him saving the bloodline it was sad that all that was known was lost and, Adir and this family had no idea how strong their ties were to dragons.
The Chronicler gave the young warrior a sympathetic look. He knew this would be difficult for him. "I am sorry, young one."
Adir sniffled making a stern look on his face. His grief turned to anger. "Why didn't the dragons help them? Why didn't they come to their aid in their time of need?" He demanded not only did his ancestors own subjects betray them but those they protected and kept the secret on. The Dragons! Surely they would have helped.
"The Dark Master had risen in their time. The Realm was in complete chaos when he first stormed the lands with his malice and power beyond anything imaginable. The Guardians were needed and all dragons that had come to your realm had to return to this realm to stand against them." Explained the Chronicler.
Adir was still furious. His Ancestors were betrayed by their own subjects. He and the others did not see what came of the princess and those that saved her but the truth on his origins was clear. And the fact that the dragons then did not save them though they were suffering their own turmoil. They still owed it to his ancestors, yet they did not come or that those that were about to be hung did nothing to save themselves and were committed to be killed only for one of them to be saved. It made no sense at all! He wanted to know more about them, but the mention of the Dark Master changed his mind. If it wasn't for him then perhaps the guardians in that age could have saved his ancestors and across time things could have turned out differently.
"What about the portals? What happened to them? Surely they can be used again to get us back home when the time is right?" Inquired Adir still very upset over the revelation of his ancestors.
"I am afraid its not possible. Our Ancestors destroyed the gems that were being used for the portals. To ensure nothing could invade that realm or any other. Not while the Dark Master threatened everything. But in his haste to prevent the prophecy from coming true they created a portal to find you and your family in this day and age and once they had you they had destroyed their portal. To keep your realm from having a way to follow should you had someone or an army to follow you and attempt to save you." Explained the Chronicler. Adir was dumbfounded by everything. It almost seemed so unreal again. He recalled how it was told to him before that the Dark Masters forced pinpointed him and took his family and almost had him killed before. Which meant that until they could find a way to activate a portal through the use of the dragon gems there was absolutely no way for him and his family to go back where he came from. But right now, he needed more answers, and his friends needed them too on a more pressing matter.
"Who is this Dark Master anyway? If he has been a terror for hundreds of years where did this all start from?" Asked Adir still angry but right now there was more pressing matters at hand. Least he now knew the truth along with his friends.
The others nodded Spyro and Sparx desperately wanted to know. He had been mentioned so many times and that he was the one who corrupted Cynder. Zima may not have known as much as them but if he was an enemy of the land and of them then it was best for her to know as well.
The Chronicler closed the book on Adir's ancestors putting it away and gathered another book bringing it from the shelves. It was large and the cover was shaded in purple. "This book is yours Spyro. Many pages are still left uncomplete." He brought the book up to the others and like before when the pages were opened up to them their minds were riddled with visions from the words upon the pages.
The First thing they saw was a great ape. Menacing with a green, emerald eye and wielding two great swords standing in front of an army of apes. He was shouting out a battle cry calling for his troops to storm what looked to be the Dragon Temple smashing through a wall and the apes charged within with a dragon coming to the defense only for the ape to thrust one of his swords into the dragons chest and proceeded to decapitate it laughing as he added another to his kill.
"You seen this hideous creature before haven't you? Inquired the Chronicler with the others watching through the visions in horror as the Dragon Temple was raided. Many of its protectors being overwhelmed. Just as Ignitus had told Spyro, Adir and Sparx weeks ago at Cynder's fortress.
"Why is he in my book?" Asked Spyro.
"It was Gaul that raided the temple on the night of your birth. When Ignitus rescued your egg." Said the Chronicler.
"And when they took Cynder's." Adir added.
"Yes…that was most unfortunate." Sighed the Chronicler. The Visions carried on through the temple showing how Ignitus carried Spyro's egg and put it on an overturned mushroom large enough to carry it and send it down river for safety until it reached the swamp where the dragonfly's found the egg and raised the dragon like their own with part of the vision showing, Sparx recently had come out from his egg with his parents nearby looking down on him lovingly.
"Oh! And look…here is little Sparx." Chuckled the Chronicler and the others chuckled but Sparx flew in front of the book with his arms out his face flushing.
"HEY! No one needs to see that EVER!" He spluttered.
"So glad we did!" Chuckled Adir. "Weren't you so cute." Teased the human making a baby voice.
Sparx shot him an angry look but Zima only grinned. Finally, something happened with the Dragonfly that they all could annoy him with.
"Wait…can these books tell the future?" Asked Spyro.
The Chronicler looked at Spyro. "In parts…" He informed. "Only glimpses of the future really."
"Then I want to know what will happen to Cynder." Asked the purple dragon.
"Spyro you don't..." The Chronicler started.
"Please!" Spyro interrupted "I must know!"
"We all must know!" Adir agreed. Though he still carried the guilt of losing Cynder back in the arena. He almost had her if he did not get knocked down. Sparx tried to tell them no waving his arms but, Zima nodded too. If they were concerned about their friend then she will follow their lead.
The Chronicler sighed once again about to show them all something that will horrify them more. "Very well. Her's is a darker tale." He put Spyros book away bringing out another book with a black hard cover opening it up for them.
"Young ones you have to understand when she was taken by Gaul she was poisoned and corrupted and made to do the Dark Masters bidding." The Group saw a young Cynder chained by the neck over a dark pool with a glowing beam of dark purple light consuming her. An Enchantment being performed by Gaul himself. In a series of flashes of lightning and booming thunder out from the beam came out, Cynder as an adult dragon and then it showed the monster they all once knew standing behind a massive throne with, Gaul sitting on it.
"Her entire life has been spent in shadow. She knows no other way." Carried on the Chronicler sadly. Such a horrible fate for a dragon to suffer. "And when the Dark Master returns she will concede. No one can reside the temptation not even the strongest among us." The Visions then turned twos a three horned dragon standing out with glowing eyes giving a menacing look that a cold chill down the spines of everyone there.
"I don't believe that!" Spat Spyro. It couldn't be true. Cynder was not evil. She was used and corrupted. She never would have chosen that path if she was even given a chance. She was robbed of everything.
Adir agreed with a nod. Cynder was no evil. There was a time he believed that with no doubt but after hearing what had happened to her as an egg what choice did she have? None! Now she was free, and all judged her for crimes that were not truly her own. No matter how hard it was to convince others like his family and, Sparx she kept on being judged for them. Least by then some of them have changed their minds however he knew some would still hold a terrible grudge against her.
"Young ones let me tell you another story." Said the Chronicler but Sparx flew up to him waving his arms.
"Ooh…ooh! Can I pick it this time? Maybe something a little more cheery and full of happy endings?" He asked but the Chronicler did not answer him. Continuing out through another book he pulled from the shelves. This one was dark purple in the hard cover. The Group awaited to see what it was about though Sparx was unhappy that he wasn't answered.
When it opened up they saw a very young purple dragon standing surrounded by a group of elder dragons various in color in what appeared to be a temple in a city it seemed. "There was a dragon so long ago. Whose raw power was far greater than anyone has ever seen. Or even could have imagined."
The Visons from the book followed showing how the purple dragon trained under a multitude of other dragons. "At first he mastered fire. Which was odd as he was not a fire dragon. Then came Ice and wind among other abilities none thought possible." The Visions showed parts where the dragon was perfecting some of his abilities alone as no other dragon had the power to teach him hence he learned to master it on his own. "Does this sound familiar, Spyro?"
"It was a purple dragon like me!" Replied Spyro in great surprise along with the others.
"The First Purple Dragon." Proclaimed the Chronicler before continuing on with the story. "In the beginning he was encouraged. And secrets of the elemental mastery were passed unto him willingly by the ancestors. But his power was limitless…he knew no boundary…he consumed everything. When he wouldn't stop he was cast into exile."
The Visions showed how this purple dragon started to wreak havoc among the dragons. First he was cruel to others putting himself above those who were weaker than him. He then began to steal scrolls and books that showed magic of the darkness forbidden for anyone to see. He even tempted to bring others to his beliefs to rise above their feeble states and that power will set them to the highest point in life. He was eventually captured and put on trial for his crimes, and it was decreed he was no longer part of them and was banished for his ill deeds.
It was horrible for all of them to see especially for Spyro to see one that was much like himself become someone that was a menace to all. The Ancestors believed in him and taught him. They shared their secrets and hoped he would take them into an age of peace and a higher way of leading their people to a brighter future only to become something no one would have imagined him becoming due to his lust for power and his will to dominant.
"From his new fortress in the mountain he built an army. Not of dragons but of apes. And taught them how to artificially harness the power of the gems. Our lifeforce." Continued the Chronicler. The Visions continued to show the group how the Apes came under the Dark Masters will. With the promise of power and to stake a higher claim across the world to bring about an age for their own people to become the dominant ones. With the promise of that the Apes were quick to give their loyalty to their new master and to follow his bidding no matter the cost of their own. From mining the Dragon gems and using their power to make them stronger and much more formidable they became a force to be reckoned with.
"And this is the Dark Master. The One whose been this shadow over us all since the beginning." Asked Adir.
"Yes." Confirmed the Chronicler. "And in his dark seclusion. The Sheer weight of his malice cracked the very foundation of the mountain. Splitting the earth and creating a pit of despair. Where the lost souls of the world could reside." The Visions then showed how the mountain came to form from being a hollow hold in the earth to a towering beacon of evil with the skulled head of the very dragon that created it from the peak of it.
"The Well of Souls!" Gasped the purple dragon.
"Created by the very beast who now seeks to escape it." Finished the Chronicler.
Zima finally had to say something her mind was a flurry of horrific images. They talked about this monster but from what it sounds like he was trapped. How could it be?
"Wasn't this Dark Master killed or imprisoned?" She asked.
"In their most desperate hour the ancestors stormed the very mountain hundreds of years ago. With what forces they had. It was a battle most costly many of which were killed by the very one they trained. Through a tremendous struggle and facing down abilities that surpassed their own they managed to subdue the Dark Master. Malefor was his name. They slayed him but his dark spirit remained. Knowing the danger his spirit possessed they entrapped it into a spiritual prison in the dark realms to ensure that even during the Eternal Night he would not be able to escape." Explained the Chronicler.
Spyro and Adir looked at each other. Recalling the final battle they had with Cynder. That was the prison that held the Dark Masters spirit. They failed to stop Cynder from putting the final crystal needed to unlock it. It was their fault! They were too late and now the Dark Master could fully return. That's what Ignitus meant about a portal that should never be opened.
"No." Laminated Adir. Zima looked at him with worry.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
Spyro spoke first. "We were there. The Dark Master had corrupted Cynder open up his prison in the dark realms. Adir and I chased after her, but we were too late to stop her from unlocking it. We didn't know at the time just what danger lied within it.
Zima was shocked by this. "Don't blame yourselves. You did your best." She assured but Adir shook his head.
"But it wasn't enough." Sighed Adir.
But then Spyro realized something looking back up at the Chronicler. "But you said the Eclipse would only allow the spirits to escape for a short while!"
"Yes." Nodded the Chronicler. "But if there was ever a spirit powerful enough to escape from it.
The four friends looked at each other. This was bad! If the Dark Master escapes again it could mean the end of everything. It took the dragons in the past everything they had, and it was barely enough. If he escapes then more than likely he will succeed where he once failed.
"How do we stop it?" Asked the purple dragon and Sparx's eyes went wide. Zima was concerned as well, but Adir looked at the Chronicler with same look the purple dragon had. They needed to put an end to this before it could begin.
"There is no stopping it. It has been written." Replied the Chronicler blankly.
The Purple Dragon and the Human looked at each other again both shocked at what they just heard. Adir spoke up. "Then why did you call us here then? I don't understand at all!"
"To ride out this storm where you all will be safe and live to fight another day." Explained the Chronicler.
"Seriously?! You had us come all the way here just to remain in a safe zone? That's it?!" Yelled the human angrily. He did not go through this whole journey just to stay in a place of safety. Looking back to where they came from. So many he left behind as did they all to find the Chronicler for answers and this is what he gives them?
Sparx however thought the idea of it was pleasant. "Well, that sounds pretty good!" But the others glared at him.
"You can't be serious! My Family is out there! And you're asking me. Us! To simply wait around and let the Dark Master return! Its not just my family that's at risk its everyone!" Shouted Adir.
Zima put a hand on his shoulder nodding. "He's right! I may not have family myself anymore, but I do have friends and there are many innocent people out in the lands who are now at the greatest risk of their lives! We can't simply wait for a storm to pass and find them all slaves or even corpses!" Cried the Snow Leopard. Adir smiled at her glad to see she was in agreement too though her stake in this was not as heavy as their own.
"What about the others as Adir pointed out? What about their safety?" Yelled Spyro.
The Chronicler only shook his head sadly. "I fear the worst for the others."
"And Cynder? Am I supposed to sit here and do nothing as she joins them?" Spyro yelled again. This was not right! They did not come this way just to be in a place where they can watch the world be destroyed around them. Their loved ones slaughtered, and friends again made slaves under the Dark Masters control.
Sparx flew in front of him. "Let me field this one…yes!" But Adir shot the dragonfly a nasty look.
"How dare you Sparx! You may not like Cynder for your reasons but think of your parents! What do you think will happen to them should Malefor come alive again? Do you think it best to simply leave them in the swamp and at risk of being killing by him and his army when it rally's under him?!"
Sparx didn't think of that. He had missed his parents a great deal since they first left the swamp. The Adventure he had been on was worthy of many tales to tell them on the day when they finally returned home. But if this Malefor does return it could mean the end of is family. His home destroyed and all he loves gone. Where would that leave him?
Adir nodded in satisfaction seeing how Sparx see's reason now. Zima too had something to say about it.
"All the people across the lands. The World even. To simply watch it all, fall under the claws of a mad tyrant? To sit idly by and let good people suffer for it? They told me your meant to be the wisest of all. I do not think its wise for anyone to cower when they can something to help!" Zima blustered.
Sparx did not want anyone he loved to perish but what could they possibly do? "Come on guys. I agree with what Adir had said but what can we do at all? Who knows where that mountain is? The Moons above are crossing each other. By the time we find it if we leave now it would be too late!"
"Then we get back to the ship and start looking. I don't care how much time is left. A Day and hour I'll leave!" Stated Adir not believing that this journey was a practical waste. To come to the apparent wisest of all dragons just to have them stay in safety while the world dies around them?
Zima agreed nodding. "I'll get us going in any direction you choose." Adir agreed and waited for, Spyro knowing he was feeling the same as looking at the Chronicler in disbelieve.
"You kept talking about choosing a path. But what about Cynder? She was never given a choice! I have to try!" He looked at his friends then back at the Chronicler. "We have to try! We're going and you can't stop us!"
They started to walk but then the Chronicler laid down. "Then I won't!" He stated which stopped everyone in their place. They were expecting for him to deny them leave. Close the door or plead for them to reconsider but…he was actually going to let them? This made them turn back towards the Chronicler.
"Young ones I have waited far too long for you all to leave here stricken in grieve and doubt. You will all need a clear mind and a pure heart to withstand the evils that consumes in that place." Warned the Chronicler.
"I know this is not the path you would choose for me and perhaps, Adir or anyone else but I have to find my own path and do what I know is right." Stated the Purple Dragon.
Adir walked up next to him putting a hand on his side. "I second that. I won't leave anyone to a fate worse than death. I stand with, Spyro as I always have."
Zima came up to the dragons right side nodding. "I may not know everything. I joined with them to fulfill a promise and a life debt. But what they say is true. None of us can allow this to go on. We must stand now, or all is lost."
The Chronicler was unsure. This was not what he came to believe would happen. But he could deny any of their hearts. Be it with his blessing or not they were determined to go that vile domain. "So be it, young ones. I will show you the way. But you must hurry. The Dark hour of the Eclipse is near, and haste will be your only ally." He warned and Sparx felt like he was ready to explode holding his head in frustration.
"Alright then! Just so I know why I died. The Plan is to walk into a land of darkness to face an army of evil creatures that want to kill us. So, we can try to rescue another evil creature that already has tried to KILL US?!" The Dragonfly cried out angrily at the last two words. Adir only shook his head. Sparx was hopeless at times. Sparx flew in front of the three.
"I'm pumped! Let's do this!" The three of them smiled glad to see Sparx was with them on this. They looked up at the Chronicler curiously.
"Where do we travel then?" Asked Zima.
"Here young leopard." Replied the Chronicler gesturing with his long snout to the hourglass in the middle of the room. It lifted up to reveal a hole beneath it. That's when they saw it as the pit lit up in a light blue color.
"A Portal?!" Cried Adir.
"Yes. It will take you to the mountain. But again, I warn you this will be very dangerous. I am going against my own will by allowing you all to go. But your choice is clear. Once you go through I will leave it open for a moment to allow you time to reconsider but should you go on I will destroy it. There will be no return." The Chronicler warned hoping his words could sway the group, but they were all determined to go.
"Thank you. We won't let you down!" Vowed Adir being the first to jump into the hole letting the portal take him to the destination. Zima followed with a thankful nod to the chronicler. Sparx was unsure of this as he always was, but he quickly followed flying down to the portal. Spyro and the Chronicler shared one last look. Despite having come all this way for answers that were not what he wanted the Chronicler to give them the chance to stop the coming darkness. He gave him an appreciative look before he followed his friends through the portal.
"May the Ancestors look out for you. May they look out for us all." Prayed the Chronicler as he now waited for a few minutes, but it was clear none of them were going to return to one place where they all could be safe he waved his wing, and the gems below exploded destroying the portal and the hourglass covered the hole. The Group was now on their own and should they succeed all the Chronicler could do was hope that he did not make a mistake by letting them follow their hearts.
