So, it's been a while. I apologize. I won't lie; I kind of forgot this story existed. I've been so busy with other stories that I let this fade into the background. It also didn't help that I got more than a little tired of Chainsaw Man, and also… that chapter came out. If you know, you know. Luckily, I was able to stop being a whiny little bitch, and, well, now we're here!
Also, because this takes place after the canon of Omori, specifically the ending where Sunny threw himself off the hospital roof, I should probably note some things. Because this was a bad ending, nobody knew that Sunny had killed Mari, and that will come up much later. I won't resolve that issue for a long time.
Also, do keep in mind that this also takes place before Chainsaw Man canon. Like, a good solid two years. So, just in case you guys forgot, have fun with that knowledge.
With that being said, enjoy this chapter!
-Bleed Thy Enemies Dry-
Anger. Cold, raw, unfettered anger was all that Sunny could feel at the sight of Aubrey being flung past them. His eyes, hidden under his mask, narrowed with a rage unlike any other. It was rare for Sunny to get angry. He never usually did. Not like this, anyway. However, he supposed he had never seen one of his friends who had been badly injured before.
As he ran alongside Kim, whose blood hammer was dragging just behind her, Sunny gripped the handle of his knife with narrowed eyes. The knife had a black, almost crystalline blade with jagged teeth. The guard was made of gold, and the handle was wrapped in red fabric. The pummel of the knife was a small ornate skull carved out of real human bone with two red eyes made of jewels.
The Suicide Devil glared at them as its arms extended outward like shadows, its many eyes filled with hatred and rage. Sunny watched as Kim hauled her blood hammer over her shoulder and knocked the appendage that was aimed at her away. The act looked tiring, but she did it regardless.
As for Sunny, he barely dodged out of the way of the attack before stabbing his knife into the arm of The Suicide Devil. The blade easily cut through and tore its way across the arm as the beast roared in pain, its many eyes becoming bloodshot. Purple blood sprayed out of the wound as blue flames flared to life where the knife cut, catching Sunny off guard.
As the flames grew larger and burned the wound that the knife had created, a part of him was left confused and distracted. The Suicide Devil used his distraction to its advantage, a menacing gleam appearing in its eyes as it smirked—something that Kim caught on to.
"Sunny!" Kim shouted just as she knocked another limb out of the way, breaking the blackened limb in the process as she looked over at him. "It's planning something! Get out of the way—" Before Kim could finish what she was saying, without warning, another arm shot out of its stomach, grabbed Sunny and flung him across the park.
"SUNNY!" Kim shouted, barely being able to flatten another limb that was launched at her, courtesy of the Suicide Devil. She looked back at the building-sized Devil as it laughed, its voice harsh and rough.
"YOU ARROGANT LITTLE RAT~! YOU THOUGHT THAT YOU HAD OVERCOME ME, THAT'S FUNNY! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT AN ANT!" The Suicide Devil spat as Kim glared up at the monster. She snapped her fingers, the blood hammer turning into a sword as she slashed through another hand that was coming for her.
She was starting to feel weak, and it was annoying. She hadn't fought in a prolonged battle before. Most of the time, the power of The Blood Devil allowed her to kill Devil's with ease. But this guy? He was a lot more of a battle than she had thought. The worst part was that it didn't give her any kind of superhuman ability. It just gave her magic blood.
But that blood was still her blood. It was the blood of The Blood Devil. It was her blood. Because it was her blood, she had to watch how much she was using; otherwise, she'd go anemic. She cut through a few more hands that rushed toward her, six in total, before switching back to the hammer. Why? Because she was more comfortable with the hammer.
"WHY FIGHT? WHY NOT JUST GIVE UP! YOU'RE CLEARLY NOT MADE OUT FOR THIS," The Suicide Devil taunted, its raspy and nasally voice grating on the ears as Kim snarled.
"You hurt my friend, you bastard! I won't forgive you!" Kim snarled as she leapt back, narrowly avoiding a swiping attack from the large bastard. She glanced over at Sunny, who was hunched over in pain. She felt a pang of worry spike up in her chest. The Mayor had said that he would be fine going up against The Suicide Devil, but clearly, that wasn't the case.
For Sunny's part, when he crashed into one of the many trees in the area, his body shook with pain as every nerve in his body began to burn. Despite being given superhuman strength and speed, his body was still just as mushy as a regular human's. He felt all of the wind being blown out of his lungs, a burning sensation filling his chest as he coughed and struggled to breathe.
"Ow…" Sunny thought despondently, feeling his bones ache and his muscles tense in pain. He had never fought before—not in any meaningful matter. The only conflict that he had was… was with Aubrey. When he had slashed at her arm with his kitchen knife. He wondered if she had a scar from the wound. Probably.
Slowly, he looked up at the ensuing battle, watching Kim beginning to be overwhelmed by The Suicide Devil, a malignant grin taking up its many mouths. He felt a pang of dread grow in the back of his mind, panic filling his body as he struggled to get to his feet, his body aching in pain as he stumbled forward.
He would not go down like that. Not that easily.
Adrenaline pumped through his veins as he rushed forward, knife in hand, as he leapt up into the air, ignoring this brain telling him to stop moving, screaming at him to let his wounded body rest. He would not—could not—allow Kim to get too badly injured or worse.
He would not let this bastard take the life of another one of this town's people! It already took Basil and nearly took him. He wouldn't give it the satisfaction!
Like a hot knife to butter, his blade easily cut through the wrist of one of the hands that was mere inches away from grabbing Kim. He watched as blue flames roared to life where the hand once sat, burns covering the whole wrist as the hand dissolved into black dust.
The Suicide Devil screamed in agony, its many eyes shifting around erratically; all the while, it let out a sickening roar. Kim shot a glance over at Sunny, her body language telling him that she was clearly freaked out. Who wouldn't be? Especially with just how much of a powerhouse this thing seemed to be, he didn't like the fact that all they were doing was pissing it off.
"YOU LITTLE WORMS!" It snarled as more arms sprouted from its body, the shadows cascading over them like towering buildings. Both Sunny and Kim took steps back, staring at The Suicide Devil with a levelled measure of caution in their eyes. "HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU LITTLE INSECTS SO MUCH AS EVEN TOUCH ME?! YOU WORTHLESS SACKS OF SKIN! YOU WASTE'S OF AIR! I'LL KILL YOU!"
More arms began to sprout from The Suicide Devil as Kim growled. "Is this all this thing really is!? I mean, c'mon, even The Cockroach Devil could spit acid. Can all this thing do is sprout arms?!"
"It works…" Sunny dully noted as he gripped his knife, tension building in his muscles. Arm after arm descended upon them as Kim and Sunny smashed away and sliced through the arms. The speed at which they came didn't change, but he could see Kim was slowly starting to slow down, sweat coating her face.
This wasn't going to work out. It was stalling, but for what? What was it stalling for? Was it seriously trying to tire them out? It wouldn't work for Sunny—or at least, not to the same extent as it would for Kim.
The problem was that they weren't doing enough damage. Sure, they were hurting it, but it could just keep replacing its limbs as much as it wanted. It had more stamina than it did, and while it was going to run out of arms to launch at them and require blood to heal all the damage done to it, that would be long after they were dead.
Simply put, this Devil was far out of their league, and both Sunny and Kim knew it. This was more than what The Mayor had made it out to be. Either that or he was just as clueless as to how powerful this Devil had truly been.
Sunny blamed himself for this. He had more than likely given it this amount of power. It had been stuck on him for four years, and that most likely contributed to its immense power. As he cut through limb after limb, he glanced over at Kim, who looked increasingly tired by the second.
If she let up for even a moment, she would more than likely die.
He couldn't let her die. Especially not because of something that was most likely his fault—no, not "most likely," it just was. If he hadn't attracted this thing's attention in the first place, he would've been fine. Added to the fact that if he didn't give in to this thing, Basil wouldn't have taken his life, which more than likely gave it more power.
He needed to do something, so that was precisely what he did. Using the small window between attacks, Sunny tackled Kim out of the way, taking Kim off guard as several hands followed their movements.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Kim exclaimed as Sunny grunted before tossing Kim to the side. She rolled away and into a swing set, hitting the center of her back against the cold steel as she hissed in pain. Sunny turned on his heel, watching the sea of limbs approaching him. Not daunted by it, he bent down and jumped with all the physical strength he could muster.
As he jumped, he gripped the blade's hilt even harder than before, his muscles tensing, his knuckles turning white as he barred his teeth underneath his mask in a wild, animalistic sneer. His blood was rushing, his heart was pumping, and something in the back of his mind was telling him to go wild.
He slashed and cut through all the hands that came toward him before landing atop one of the arms and began to scale it. He dragged his blade across the arm, and all the while, The Suicide Devil screamed in a distorted wail of pain. He cut through mouths and eyes galore, and as he dragged the blade up the massive arm, he noticed that wherever he was cutting, a small blue flame followed suit.
All he cared about was getting rid of this ugly creature! He leapt again, lunging toward the face of The Suicide Devil, all of its eyes staring at him as over a dozen more limbs lunged toward him, hands open and prepared to grab him. He stabbed the first hand's palm, carving the blade through it, before slicing off a few fingers off the next hand.
The hand following it nearly grabbed him, only for him to use it to gain momentum, twisting his body around to slice its thumb off. He landed on the shoulder of The Suicide Devil, its eyes widening as Sunny lodged the knife given to him by The Grief Devil into its neck.
The Suicide Devil roared in pure rage, purple blood spraying from the wound. "YOU LITTLE SHIT!" The Suicide Devil shouted as a hand appeared out from where Sunny was standing, its massive fingers wrapping around his body as Sunny felt every bone in his body shatter under its grip. Sunny shouted in pain as blood sprayed out of his mouth. Everything hurt as his vision became blurry.
He was thrown to the ground, the sound of Kim's voice shouting for him being nothing but dull noises in the back of his mind. The knife that he had used to carve up The Suicide Devil was thrown next to him—not that he could reach it due to his body being so utterly broken.
"This is pathetic." The voice of The Grief Devil rumbled in the back of his head as Sunny tried to say something, only to cough up more blood. "I gave you that knife for a reason. Why haven't you used it?"
What was it on about? He had just used it—he had been using it this entire time! What was it supposed to do!? Despite his blurry vision, he watched as Kim tried to block another grab attack, only to be slammed into a tree. Her eyes were wide. Blood was dripping down the side of her mouth… oh, she was going to die. He was going to watch yet another person die.
Another person who he had seen as a friend, even if only because she had been friends with Aubrey….
Was this what regret felt like? Was this what true despair felt like? He knew what it felt like before, but that was brought on by The Suicide Devil trying to get him to take his life. He had never naturally felt it before until now.
It sucked.
This sucked.
"Grab the knife. Your right arm is still functional." The Grief Devil instructed—no, demanded. His eyes were drawn to the knife as he looked away from Kim, who was being slowly crushed against a tree. He could hear The Suicide Devil laughing at their torment. At their despair. At their misery.
It sparked something within his chest. It sparked a sensation of determination that he had never felt before. Ignoring the pain in his body as much as he possibly could—which was immensely difficult, might he note—he grabbed the knife and dragged it over to himself. His body shook with each movement he made; his teeth, which were stained with his blood, gnashed together as a low growl escaped his lips.
"Take the knife and plunge it into your neck. Trust me. You will gain a great boon from this if you do." Sunny felt a chill wash down his spine as The Grief Devil said that. Did he want to trust it? Either way, if it worked, he'd get something from it. Either he'd die, or something else would happen.
Forcing himself to roll over onto his back, Sunny, with his right hand, raised the blade to his neck. His breathing was rough, his body ached, and his mind raced with a thousand different thoughts. This was either the smartest or dumbest thing he could do at this moment. He just hoped that something would come from this, other than his death.
Without a moment of hesitation, Sunny thrust the knife into his neck.
For a split second, he felt a burning, unceasing pain. His eyes widened, and he felt the urge to scream, but nothing came. He felt something tighten in his chest, and then, not but a moment later, he watched as chains burst out from his neck.
The chains wrapped around his neck, coiling like a snake as the blade sunk deeper and deeper into his throat. The whole of Sunny's eyes turned a bright shade of orange. The chains continued to burst from his body, starting with his arms as they coiled around them, thick and made of black metal.
Each link of the chains was covered in spikes as they poked into his skin, drawing more blood. Yet, it didn't hurt. It felt normal to him, as if he had felt that feeling before. The agonizing normality of grief filled his very being, but not in the typical sense. Rather than feeling sad, he was furious. That cold fury from before blazed even brighter.
As it did, a mane of blue flames erupted behind his neck, burning away his hair and the skin around his face, exposing nothing but a skull that slowly became engulfed within the flames. Just as it had, chains wrapped around his skull, and a giant black metallic maw formed where his mouth would be and stretched to wrap around the entirety of his jaw had been. Teeth the size of butcher's knives filled his mouth as a snarl ripped through the park.
The rest of his body remained the same, including his clothes. The only thing that changed were his arms and legs, which were engulfed in chains. His hands, though, had become clawed, with said claws being the size of massive butcher knives. He stood with a hunch in his back as spikes tore from his back, each looking as sharp as a freshly sharpened blade.
The Suicide Devil saw him, and its eyes widened, alarm in its eyes as Sunny looked down at his hands. What… what was this? What had become? "Whatever…" Sunny snarled, his voice several octaves deeper as he looked up at The Suicide Devil. "You… You'll pay!"
The Suicide Devil went to say something, only for it to blink and for Sunny to have disappeared from where he had been standing. Instead of standing in the middle of the park, it was in front of its face, a clawed hand reaching out to grab it. The Suicide Devil's eyes widened as the beast that Sunny had become sunk its claws into its ugly, putrid, disgusting face.
As Sunny dragged his claws through The Suicide Devil's face, blue flames erupted from where they sliced, leaving extensive burns from where they came from. The Suicide Devil's eyes widened even more with pain as it retracted all of its limbs and aimed to attack Sunny.
He used each limb that had lunged at him to keep in the air, bouncing off of them and slashing at them relentlessly, leaving blue flames in his wake. He felt unstoppable, his heart beating fast as adrenaline burned throughout his body.
"YOU LITTLE PEST! STAY STILL!" The Suicide Devil bellowed as another hand reached out to grab him just as he was standing on one of the limbs that he had cut the hand off of. Rather than slash at it, he lunged for the limb and bit one of the fingers off, consuming it as another round of energy burst through him.
He had completely forgotten. He was part Devil now, too. He needed blood to continue acting and to heal all of his wounds—which, granted, had been healed when he had turned into whatever it was he had become, but that was beside the point.
The Suicide Devil once again shouted in pain as Sunny felt a smile stretch across his face. This bastard deserved all the pain it was going through. For hurting Aubrey as it had and for nearly killing Kim. For killing Basil and for tricking his friends into thinking that he had died.
"This is your punishment…" Sunny drawled, slashing through more of the limbs as he stabbed one of the main eyes on the creature's face. "Take it like you should!" A bloom of blue flames erupted from the eye socket of The Suicide Devil as it roared with a fury unlike no other.
"I WILL NOT BEND TO YOU! I DID NOT THE LAST TIME AND WILL NOT DO SO AGAIN!" The Suicide Devil declared as Sunny scoffed. He felt a pulse of confidence strike him. It was starting to become panicked. That was good. That meant that he had it on the ropes.
Meanwhile, as Kim fell to the ground, coughing up blood, she watched with weary eyes what was happening. Or, at least, she was trying to. All she could see was The Suicide Devil trying and failing to defend against a fiery blue blur that was rushing around its face, carving into it and leaving what appeared to be third-degree burns wherever the burning blur went.
That… that had to be Sunny. She knew he had contracted a Devil, and she knew it was The Grief Devil and that he was a hybrid, but… that didn't look like what The Grief Devil ought to have looked like. When she pictured Grief, she pictured… something like rain. Not fire and chains.
Despite that, she didn't care. All she cared about was watching that piece of shit die. She looked over to Aubrey's unconscious form and slowly rose to her feet, limping over to her. She constantly looked over to her shoulder, checking to make sure that Sunny was holding his own.
When she did, she saw Sunny cutting through the massive bastard with his claws. The flames that followed made The Suicide Devil roar in agony, which made Kim smile. Looking back at Aubrey, she watched as she stirred back to consciousness. That was good. Any longer, and she probably would've been in danger.
As she helped Aubrey stand up, Aubrey's eyes opened. "Kim… what the hell is going on…" Aubrey muttered as she looked over to the ensuing fight between The Suicide Devil and Sunny. Aubrey's eyes widened, and she was about to scream, only for Kim to put a hand over her mouth.
"Don't. It'll notice you're conscious and try and do something." As Kim said that, Aubrey let out a muffled shout as Sunny landed next to them, his claws digging into the ground, leaving behind scorch marks in the grass. It was only now that Kim realized just how metal he looked.
The chains that circled his arms and legs dug into his body, and the mane of blue flames and chain-covered head made him look like a metal version of The Ghost Rider. His eyes were a raging orange, with several black rings circling within his eyes as his claws and teeth glistened with purple blood.
"Kim. Are you okay?" Sunny asked, his voice distorted and noticeably deeper as Kim nodded.
"Y-yeah, just a little hurt. What about you, Fushiguro?" Kim replied as Sunny nodded. His eyes showed a level of appreciation for using his last name—his new last name since he had changed it from his old one. Aubrey was awake, so he didn't want to freak her out more than she already was.
"W-What…?! T-That's Fushiguro?!" Aubrey stammered out, terror in her voice as Kim turned both of them away from Sunny.
"Yes, and we'll explain everything once The Suicide Devil is killed. Now we gotta go!" Kim exclaimed as she tried to move as fast as she could. Meanwhile, Sunny stared up at the mutilated form of The Suicide Devil. It was covered in deep cuts, burns, and bleeding from just about everywhere. Most of its eyes were poked out, and most of its mouths were heavily burned.
The only thing that The Suicide Devil could do was cry out in pain. What remained of its many limbs were mostly burned stumps, and while it sprouted five more, it looked like all of what it could do. It was a pathetic sight to behold and one that Sunny didn't much care for.
Sunny glanced over his shoulder as Aubrey and Kim booked it for the park. Kim kept Aubrey supported using the classic under-arm technique he had seen in shows and movies. Looking back at The Suicide Devil, Sunny shook his arms once as chains began unfurling from his arms. "Time to finish this," Sunny said as The Suicide Devil released one last roar of defiance.
The final five arms raced toward Sunny, who launched himself with all the physical strength he could muster, creating a small crater in the ground of his kick-off. Using the momentum he had gained, he flew through the air as his chains wrapped around the first two arms approaching him.
The chains constricted and ensnared the arms, blue flames bursting from the wounds inflicted by the chains as The Suicide Devil continued to roar in agony. Two more arms approached Sunny as he landed on them, his chain-covered feet biting into the monster's skin as burns appeared wherever he stepped.
His chains dragged through the flesh of The Suicide Devil, rendering wherever they touched burned and destroyed. The chains whipped upward, lashing toward the last limb aimed squarely at Sunny's body. The chains wrapped around the arm as blue flames erupted from their points of contact before crushing the limb in a single flick of both of Sunny's wrists.
"Let the cleansing flames of Grief wash over you, loser," The Grief Devil snarked from within Sunny's mind. He couldn't help but smirk at the comment. It didn't help that The Grief Devil had once again taken up Mari's voice. While a part of him was insulted that it would use her voice. Frankly, Sunny didn't have time to focus on that.
With the flick of his wrist, using the momentum he continued to gain, he lunged toward The Grief Devil's face, his chains wrapping around its head before leaping over its head and forcing the massive beast down toward the ground. The chains dug into its head, ripping through it like silly putty and cutting it into pieces.
A large dust cloud kicked up after The Suicide Devil fell, and its impact caused the park and the surrounding area to shake. Those hidden within their houses during the ensuing battle had to hold on for dear life not to fall over, and even a few car alarms began to go off from the miniature earthquake caused by the massive Devil falling to the ground.
The moment the battle was over, the chains slinked back into his neck, the flames died, and his skin and hair returned to where they were supposed to be; all the while, his wounds healed, and his knife was returned to him by sliding out of his wrist and back into his hand.
Sunny felt his body shudder after feeling everything return to normal. His mask, the one he had borrowed from Kel, was destroyed. He would have to buy a new one for him when he got the chance.
Police cars began to pull in as several officers stepped out of their cars, staring at the larger-than-life corpse. Sunny pocketed his knife as the personal car belonging to The Mayor pulled up. When he stepped out, his blond hair slicked back as his green eyes stared upon the body of The Suicide Devil, he smiled.
The smile only lasted a moment before he turned to look at Sunny, his expression going to a neutral gaze. "Young man, thank you." Sunny wordlessly nodded as The Mayor patted his shoulder. "Where is Kimberly?"
"Entrance of the park. She's with Aubrey. She's hurt. Both of them are," Sunny replied curtly as The Mayor hummed in acknowledgement. He turned his attention back to the corpse of The Suicide Devil, scowling.
"Finally, my son is avenged. Rot in hell," The Mayor spat before sighing. He snapped his fingers and looked toward the police officers. "Clean up this mess. It'll take a few days, but it must be done. I'll make a press release about the incident later. Fushiguro, with me. We're going to the front of the park."
Without so much as a word, both the police got to work, and Sunny followed The Mayor. He felt a sensation of worry build up in his chest. He was about to confront Aubrey about him being alive, but he could handle it. Although, he was worried for Aubrey. Especially because of how violent she had been lately. Hopefully, that was just under the effects of The Suicide Devil. If it wasn't… then he was probably screwed.
