Sarah POV
The gym was in chaos. Bleachers had somehow risen around a ring in the middle. Inside the
arena was a contraption lowering a dummy towards rotating blades as a countdown timer
clicked away.
Lash and Speed, as I recognized them from the first day, were guarding the victim, keeping a
kid who seemed to be controlling a swarm of ants, which were currently being held in a vortex
by Speed while Lash dealt with distracting the humans. Although if the second kid was human,
he-I assumed it was a he-was a shapeshifter. The snake was slithering around Lash's
outstretched arms, snapping at the appendages if they came too close. Lash was probably
aware of the venom such a bite would entail, based on his attempts to grab the back of the
snack while avoiding the front.
I saw, with my ability, Lash manage to grab the kid's tail and throw him at a fake telephone poll,
where he would break at least five ribs. I decided to take action, sidling closer to the barrier by
the pole, but a good four benches up.
As the snake went flying, I launched herself from the bench I had been standing on, vaulting
over the barrier to catch the snake midair, right before it would have hit the telephone pole.
The cheering and taunting from the crowd quieted as I stood there, calmly placing the snake
back on the ground, where it shifted into a boy about a year older than her. He had blond hair
with blue streaks, much like the blue stripes on the snake. He was a good foot taller than I was
with a good amount of lean muscle and brilliant blue eyes. His eyes were currently wide and
staring at me before he bowed his head in thanks and spoke. "Thank you. I would certainly have
broken at least a few bones in the collision."
I nodded my head. "Of course." I turned to walk back towards the barrier when he grabbed her
hand, halting her in her tracks. I raised an eyebrow at him and he dropped my hand.
"I'm Liam."
"Sarah."
Their words echoed in the silent gym.
"Well, Sarah, you've now got yourself an alliance with the Prince of Snakes."
"A self-given title?" I smiled.
"Nope. My father actually is Serpent Khan," he said, a charming smile still in place.
"Well. It was no big deal." I paused. "Nice to have met you, Liam."
I reached up to grab the top of the barrier, about a foot above my head and kicked at the bottom
of the wall, flipping herself over it and landing on the other side, causing applause and cheering
to break out of the until then silent room. Was I showing off? Yes. Did I care? No.
I walked back to Layla and the peaceful girl smiled. "Someone's jealous," Layla said, glancing
over my shoulder. TI turned to see Wren scowling at Liam, looking as if someone had just
shoved a rotten fish under his nose.
The coach decided to speak then. "Those were some nice moves. Care to test your mettle
against the reigning champs?"
I looked at the two bullies, who were staring at the coach in shock. "Sure."
Wren POV
What is it with this girl? She shows up to the gym, flips over a bloody six foot barrier and catches
the Prince of Snakes out of midair before he could have potentially been fatally wounded and
then proceeds to not give him the time of day. I'll admit I was a bit happy about that last part. I
had told Warren my suspicion that she was my mate after we exited the cafeteria. Somehow,
the girl has already managed to get under Warren's barriers. It took me a full month to do that!
And that was before all the prejudice he's had to deal with!
My wolf panted as Sarah made the impressive leap, before growling at the blatant flirting shown
by the boy.
I shook my head, clearing it of thoughts of the boy. What I was more worried about was how she
was going to handle herself in Save the Citizen. Sure, she was tough. But her physical abilities
weren't anything supernatural.
I focused back on the situation. Please be alright.
Zach POV
I didn't like the way that Wren was staring at my friend. While I approved of the worry showing
on his face, I also didn't like how he eyed the boy angrily for talking with her. Sarah would never
accept possessiveness. I just hope that he can get it under control before it causes problems.
I had no doubts about Sarah's ability to come out of this unscathed. She may even win. Afterall,
supersonic flight was faster than the boy seemed to run. Who knows? Maybe the sidekick will
win one.
I was pissed when Coach put her in sidekick, but also grateful that she was with me. I could
understand the reason she was grateful. Having to reveal the details of her power in Hero
courses would have caused many to avoid her. Afterall, who wants someone in their business
for five minutes after they are passed in the hall? There would be a multitude of reasons people
wouldn't want a stranger watching them. Not that she had a choice. Sarah was no stalker. She
couldn't control the futures she saw. It was a wonder she was even able to function in her own.
Sarah POV
This was going to be fun.
