This is a very long story, with many terms and acronyms. My military training taught me to provide a reference for acronyms and unfamiliar terms. This is more than that.

I acknowledge that military culture is different from civilian culture. Even in the US, there is a culture gap. I addressed this by identifying idioms, slang, and military slang and referencing them here. This way, when you see a phrase... 'over his head' or 'in his wheelhouse'... and don't get it, you can look it up here. This shows the intent behind the phrase used.

References is the section where other works are identified. If you want to know more, you can look them up.

Acronyms, Terms, Translations, Idioms, Slang… is broken down by the Latin alphabet. Goa'uld (by Latin pronunciation. I doubt you want me to write in hieroglyphs), Antiquas (Ancient-Latin), Afrikaans (the text used in Latin). Sorry if it is confusing.

If you haven't figured it out yet, Jack O'Neill is a character of contradictions. He hates clichés, but speaks in idioms. Worse, the taught Teal'c to love them too.

Latin/Roman (Alphabet Type)

AB- – Blood type. AB Rh Negative. Very rare.

Ace In The Hole – Idiom. A valuable resource or piece of information kept in reserve until it is needed.

AI – Acronym. Artificial Intelligence.

All Hands On-Deck – Idiom. Slang. Military slang. A situation where every available person is needed or called to assist. Originally a nautical term.

Alteran – Species. Fictional Species name for race of beings that inhabited the Milky Way Galaxy for millions of years. They evolved in the Ori Galaxy. They were originally Alterans and shared a race with the original Ori. They fled persecution from the Ori to the Milky Way Galaxy. Due to a plague that wiped out life in the Milky Way Galaxy, they seeded life throughout the Galaxy. They are known as the first evolution of humans. Modern humans are the second evolution of humans. They are also known as Alterans, Lanteans, Ancients.

AM – Acronym. Ante Meridiam. Latin. Before Noon. Common time designator for morning.

Ancient – Species. Fictional. Species name for race of beings that inhabited the Milky Way Galaxy for millions of years. They evolved in the Ori Galaxy. They were originally Alterans and shared a race with the original Ori. They fled persecution from the Ori to the Milky Way Galaxy. Due to a plague that wiped out life in the Milky Way Galaxy, they seeded life throughout the Galaxy. They are known as the first evolution of humans. Modern humans are the second evolution of humans. They are also known as Alterans, Lanteans, Ancients.

Angaria – Transport. Fictional. AU. Aurora-Class Battleship. Can carry 500 with crew of 100. Ancient design. Used extensively in the Wraith War. Angaria was commissioned and launched for the first time 10 years before the end of the Wraith War.

Angel's Rest – Fictional. Location. Named in memorial to Angulus from Villam Tatum. His home was converted by the rescued to house the influx of infants and toddlers.

Area 51 – Location. 1) The US Air Force has utilized this test base to conduct Top-Secret research projects. It is located in the Nevada Test and Training Range and is remotely administered by Edwards AFB. It is officially called the Groom Lake Facility. This is the base that tested the SR-71 before it was a known airframe. It is rumored to also be the secret location for testing and reverse-engineering alien aircraft. 2) Stargate Universe – this is the location where the SGC sends all their acquired technology for backwards engineering and storage.

Armchair Quarterback – Idiom. Slang. American. 1) A person who watches sports on television and who often verbally suggests plays or critiques the players and coaches. 2) A person who criticizes something in which they are not involved and lack expertise.

Artificial Intelligence – Term. 1) the capacity of a computer, robot, programmed device, or software application to perform operations and tasks analogous to learning and decision making in humans. 2) a computer, robot, programmed device, or software application having this humanlike capacity. 3) the branch of computer science involved with the design of computers, robots, programmed devices, and software applications with the capacity to imitate human intelligence and thought.

Asgard – Fictional Species. Species name for race of beings that inhabit the Ida Galaxy. They were found by the Ancients. The Asgard are an advanced race of beings that have taken a protective stance over the Milky Way Galaxy when the Ancients departed for a higher plane of existence.

ATA – Acronym. Ancient Technology Activation. Fictional. 1) Term to denote those individuals with a genetic marker that indicates Ancient ancestry. 2) AU. Term used to denote those individuals who contain more than 30% Alteran DNA. This allows them to interact with Alteran technology.

Atlantis – Fictional Location. Fictional technology. 1) Stargate Universe – Atlantis is a residential city ship operated by the Lanteans, descendants of the Alterans (Ancients). It was abandoned in the Pegasus galaxy when the Lanteans were losing the Wraith War. 2) AU. Atlantis is an ancient Alterna residential spaceship controlled and powered by an AI of the same name. Atlantis can only interact with Alterans or Alteran Hybrids with 30% or more Alteran DNA.

AU – Acronym. Alternate Universe.

AWOL – Acronym. Absent Without Leave. Military term used to identify when a US military member is unable to be easily located for duty.

B- – Blood type. B Rh Negative. Semi-rare blood type.

Baba – Afrikaans. Dad.

BC-303 – Aircraft Designation. Battle Cruiser – Model number 303. Prometheus. This is the first Tau'ri made space craft that operates as a mothership.

BC-304 – Aircraft Designation. Battle Cruiser – Model number 304. Daedalus Class. This is the improved spacecraft that operates as a mothership. It has intergalactic reach.

Bloodkin – Fictional. Subspecies. AU. The Bloodkin are a group of descendants from the original Alterans who returned to Earth after they left the Pegasus galaxy. They intermarried with humans and eventually settled in Ireland. The Bloodkin formed the Folachin Clan in Ireland to ensure political rights with the more primitive humans. They are ruled by a Clan Mother. She is the female in that generation with the strongest mental gifts from the Alteran bloodline.

Blow (Someone's) Mind – Idiom. 1) To strongly affect someone with surprise, wonder, delight, etc. 2) To amaze or overwhelm someone

Blowing Smoke – Idiom. 1) intentionally misinform or deceive. 2) When someone is just making plans without an intention to follow through. 3) Conceal the secret behind the stereotyped situation. 4) Cheat someone and trying to look innocent. 5) When someone is trying to cover up some sort of trick that he or she applied to you.

Brass – Slang. Military slang. 1) Slang for officers, especially high-ranking officers, with broad decision-making powers. 2) It is also used to refer to senior management in companies and other organizations.

Broca Virus – Virus. Fictional. Disease that regresses the human mind to a primitive state. Defeated using anti-histamines.

BS – Acronym. 1) Bull Shit. Insult. Common cuss word in the US. 2) Bachelors of Science. College degree that usually requires four years of college.

Bucket List – Idom. 1) A list of achievements or experiences someone wants to have during their lifetime. 2) The things which are in our wish list. 3) A list of incomplete tasks that are supposed to be completed later on. 4) Bucket list comprises of all the things which a person wants to do before they die (Kicked the bucket).

Canon – Term. 1) the authentic works of a writer. 2) a sanctioned or accepted group or body of related works. 3) an accepted principle or rule. 4) a criterion or standard of judgment. 5) a body of principles, rules, standards, or norms. 6) a regulation or dogma decreed by a church council. 7) an authoritative list of books accepted as Holy Scripture.

CC – Acronym. 1) Commander. 2) Correctional Custody. Military jail.

Chappa'ai – Goa'uld. Device. Fictional. Main device created by the Alterans to create a stable wormhole to other planets. Other Names: Stargate, Chappa'ai, Anulus, Portal, Ring, Doorway to Heaven, Doorway to Hell.

Cherub's Keep – Fictional. Location. AU. Location on Donum where all the young children are housed.

Chief – Term. Military Rank. Informal address for all Chief Master Sergeants.

CMO – Acronym. Chief Medical Officer. Ranking military medical authority on an installation.

CO – Acronym. 1. Commanding Officer. Officer in Command of a Unit or direct superior to another officer or enlisted service member. 2. Acronym. State of Colorado. USA.

Col – Acronym. Military Rank. USAF, USA, USMC. Colonel. O-6. Commissioned officer.

Command - Drug. Fictional. AU. Used to ensure the victim executes an action demanded by the administrator of the drug. Victim will strive to complete the command.

Control - Drug. Fictional. AU. Used to ensure that the victim does exactly what the administrator tells them to do. Drug severely limits the autonomy of the victim. The administrator cannot leave the controlled person.

Dakara Mountain Temple – Location. Fictional. 1) The location where the first Jaffa were created by the Goa'uld. 2) The location of the Ancient energy wave emitter device used by the Alterans to create life in the Milky Way galaxy after the galaxy was devastated by the Alteran plague.

DCP – Acronym. Dependent Care Plan. A Dependent Care Plan (DCP) is a method by which the USAF ensures an Airman's family members are taken care of when the Airman is absent due to military requirements.

DEERS – Acronym. The Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). 1) US Military database used to generate enrollment and ID cards. Issuance process consists of several steps to ensure the correct ID card is issued and the appropriate benefits and privileges are assigned.

DHD – Acronym. Dial Home Device. Alteran tech used to operate the Stargate on each world. All devices are connected and updated through subspace to ensure positive connections across the galaxy.

Dienaar - Afrikaans. Servant. Term used in by the Lucian Alliance to indicate an indentured skilled worker who is trusted with some tasks.

DNA – Acronym. Deoxyribonucleic Acid. Protein chain is the unique identifier for each individual.

Dog Tags - Item. Identification Tags issues to every member of the US military for the purpose of identifying the remains of service members after they are found. Unconscious or dead.

Donum – Ancient. Home. AU Location. Ancient name given to the planet of Villam Tatum.

(At the) Drop of a Hat – Idiom. 1) At the slightest signal. 2) Immediately, without delay. 3) Without any hesitation. 4) Without any planning and for no obvious reason.

Drunk With Power – Idiom. A person or group have a strong and unreasonable feeling of being able to control other people.

Edward Scissorhands – Movie. Fictional Character. 1990 film where the protagonist is a boy who lived in seclusion because his hands had been replaced with scissors.

Et tu – Latin. Phrase. And you. Quote from Julius Caesar by William Shakespear. Act 3, Scene 1.

F-302 – Aircraft Designation. Fighter – Model number 302. Glider. Second model created by the Tau'ri. Modeled after the Goa'uld Death Glider.

Fanon – Term. Slang. Fandom slang. Elements introduced by fans which are not in the official canon of a fictional world but are widely believed to be or treated as if canonical.

Finding (One's) Feet – Idom. 1) To start to be comfortable in a new situation 2) To begin to be confident or successful.

First Prime – Jaffa Rank. Denotes the highest-ranking Jaffa in a particular sect under a Goa'uld.

Folachin Clan – Fictional. Subspecies. AU. The Folachin Clan are a group of descendants from the original Alterans who returned to Earth after they left the Pegasus galaxy. Goa'uld – Goa'uld. Fictional. Species name for symbiotes. Usually refers to symbiotes who have taken a host. They prefer to be called gods.

Good as New – Idiom. Something is in very good condition, especially after being damaged or ill.

Ha'tak – Goa'uld. Fictional. Ship. Goa'uld large mothership. Attack ship. Capable of orbital attack.

Ha'taka – Goa'uld. Insult. Strong swear word 'motherfucker.'

Hemorrhagic Shock – Term. Medical Term. Hemorrhagic shock can occur after losing a significant amount of blood. Both internal and external bleeding can cause it. Hemorrhagic shock is life threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Class 1: 15% loss of total blood volume. Class 2: 15-30% loss of total blood volume. Class 3: 30-40% loss of total blood volume. Class 4: 40% loss of total blood volume, hypotension, tachycardia.

Hot Head – Idiom. Someone who is easily angered or agitated, and may act without thinking about the consequences.

HUD – Acronym. Heads Up Display.

Hydroponics – Term. 1)The cultivation of plants by placing the roots in liquid nutrient solutions rather than in soil. 2) To grow plants without the soil. 3) Section of a vessel dedicated to cultivating plants.

ID – Acronym. Identification.

IDC – Acronym. Identification Code.

IMO – Acronym. In My Opinion.

In (One's) Wheelhouse – Idiom. 1) Within the zone that is most advantageous for a person. 2) In, related to, or matching someone's general interests, abilities, or area of familiarity; in someone's comfort zone. 3) Within one's area of expertise or interest.

IOA – Acronym. International Oversight Alliance. Fictional organization used to monitor the Stargate Project and the Atlantis Project.

IQ – Acronym. Intelligence Quotient.

JAG – Acronym. Judge Advocate General. Military lawyer.

Jaffa – Goa'uld. Fictional. Species. The Goa'uld created a warrior class using humans to make them more controllable. Based on human DNA.

Kheb – Location. Fictional. Planet hidden by the Goa'uld because it is the home to Oma Desala's temple. She aids Jaffa in their search for enlightenment and Ascension. Location where Shifu was hidden from Apophis.

Kinder - Afrikaans. Child. Children. Used by Lucian Alliance to identify children in their acquisition raids. Children can become indentured or sold as infants to childless couples.

Kull Warriors – Fictional. Subspecies. Goa'uld warriors that are specifically bread to occupy dead bodies of humans that have been resurrected using the Talchak device. Their armor resists all known Goa'uld weapons.

Lanteans – Fictional. Species. Alterans, Ancients, Lanteans. Species name for race of beings that inhabited the Milky Way Galaxy for millions of years. They evolved in the Ori Galaxy. They shared a race with the original Ori. They fled persecution from the Ori in the Ori Galaxy. They fled from a plague in the Milky Way Galaxy. They re-seeded life in the Milky Way Galaxy before they fled. They are known as the first evolution of humans. Modern humans are the second evolution of humans.

Leeu – Afrikaans. Lion. Fictional. 1) Alien animal that is natural to Bazroto. Animal appears to be a cross between a wolf and a lion. Walks on all fours. Large claws. Pack structure. May have the ability to turn invisible. Animal with a vindictive streak. Protected on the Lucian Alliance Homeworld. 2) Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate a man with behaviors like the leeu animal. Vindictive. Unstoppable.

Liar. Liar. Pants on fire – Idiom. Slang. A childhood taunt that declares that someone is believed to be lying.

Lok tol – Goa'uld. Farewell. Signing off.

Lok'nel - Goa'uld. Fictional. Fighting style used by the Jaffa. Similar to Tai Chi.

Long Haul – Idiom. 1) A long distance. 2) A considerable period of time.

Lt – Acronym. Lieutenant. Military rank. Often used in conjunction with other ranks. 2Lt - Second Lieutenant. 1Lt - First Lieutenant. LtC - Lieutenant Colonel. LtCom - Lieutenant Commander (USN).

LtC – Acronym. Military Rank. USAF, USA, USMC, USN. Lieutenant Colonel. O-5. Commissioned officer.

Lucian Alliance – Mafia. Fictional. The Lucian Alliance is a known human criminal organization that operates like a galactic mafia. AU Lucian Alliance is responsible for conducting slave raids and brokering sex slave ships.

Maj – Acronym. Military Rank. Major. O-4. Commissioned officer.

MALP – Acronym. Mobile Analytical Laboratory Probe.

Mami Wata – African Deity. Mami Wata (also Mamba Muntu, Water Mother, La Sirene, Mama Glo, Mama de Aqua, and Watramama) is a water spirit venerated in West, Central, and Southern Africa. Mami Wata spirits are usually female. She embodies the aspects of water, sex, healing, and fertility.

MIA – Acronym. Missing In Action. Term. Military term. Identifies military members who were in a battle and were unable to be accounted for after the battle. They are neither alive, dead, or wounded.

Midgard – Asgard. Asgard name for Earth. Occasionally seen in human history related to the Asgard.

Military Brat – Phrase. Slang. Military Slang. A military brat (colloquial or military slang) is a child of serving or retired military personnel. Military brats are associated with a unique subculture.

Move Mountains – Idiom. to do something that seems impossible, particularly when love or a particular belief makes you determined to succeed.

MRI – Acronym. Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Used at the SGC to scan head and neck for symbiotes.

MST(3K) – Acronym. Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is a type of Fan Fiction Trope where the visual media is displayed (or written in Canon) and is viewed by various characters or cast members for spontaneous feedback on that segment of Canon. Usually used to correct Canon errors and to provide information to characters using time travel technique.

Mwamu – Afrikaans. Mama.

Naquadah – Fictional. Metal. Metal element in the Stargate Universe. The metal is highly conductive and explosive at high temperatures. Stronger than steel. In its elemental form, it permeates the bodies of the Goa'uld and their hosts. It enables the Goa'uld to channel energy to their devices, giving the appearance of gods to their followers.

NDA – Acronym. Non-Disclosure Agreement. Standard legal form used to ensure silence for all personnel associated with classified military operations and civilian corporate projects.

Needle in a Haystack – Idiom. Used to indicate the impossibility of a search. 1) something very small amidst something very big. 2) an insignificant item to be searched in a huge pile. 3) a difficult situation. 4) something that is not likely to find since it is buried among lots of other things.

NID – Acronym. National Intelligence Division.

Non-Disclosure Agreement – Legal Document. A written contract that officially recognizes a legally binding relationship between a Disclosing Party and a Receiving Part. It is mutually understood that the information disclosed is sensitive, technical, or nonpublic and is considered valuable. Both parties of the NDA promise they will not use or disclose the protected information with anyone else. This is used in the US Government to ensure the classification of information and to ensure that those personnel can be legally prosecuted for disclose of that information. The NDA includes: Effective Date, Transaction, Confidential Information, Disclosing Party, Receiving Party, and Representatives (who information may be shared with).

Nox – Fictional. Species. Species name for race of beings that inhabit the Milky Way Galaxy. They were found by the Ancients. The Nox are an advanced race of beings that have taken a pacifist stance over the other sentients. They are one of the four great races.

Nq - Fictional. AU. Blood type. Designates that the being contains naquadah in their blood. They are unable to receive blood from Nq- beings. Very rare. Limited to beings who served as hosts to a Goa'uld or Tok'ra symbiote.

NVG – Acronym. Night Vision Goggles.

OC – Acronym. Original Character.

OOC – Acronym. Out of Character

Ops – Military Term. Short for Operations Squadron, or operations (missions).

Over (One's) Head – Idiom. 1. Too complicated to be understood by one. 2. Bypassing one's authority. 3. Lingering as a source of concern or worry for one.

PA – Acronym. Public Address. Overhead audio communication system. Specific systems target a single building or the entire installation. This is most commonly known among the military folks as 'the giant voice'. (It speaks words of wisdom, like an attack is imminent… heed the giant voice.)

Pel'tak – Goa'uld. Location. Bridge of the ship. Command center of a ship.

PM – Acronym. Post Meridiem.

Potentia – Ancient. Device. Power source. Humans have taken to calling this device a ZedPM or ZPM. The potentia is only able to store a small amount of power drawn from subspace. The power cell is reusable. It requires time to recharge from subspace. However, there is no limit to the number of uses for this type of power source. New power cells can be constructed, but only from the correct materials.

POV – Acronym. 1) Point of View. 2) Privately Owned Vehicle (civilian vehicle registered to enter military installations).

POW – Acronym. Prisoner of War.

PRC – Acronym. Personnel Recovery Center. Military organization and process for recovering military isolated personnel and ensuring support for the members and their families through the reintegration process.

PTSD – Acronym. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Medial Mental Diagnosis.

Pull the Thread – Idiom. 1) To make something come undone. 2) To cause the entire thing to fall apart. 3) To unravel.

Rebel Jaffa – Group. Term. A group of Jaffa who have rebelled against the Goa'uld.

Reenlokia – Goa'uld. Name for Asgard.

Rein - Drug. Fictional. A drug used by the Lucian Alliance to ensure the compliance of their labor stock. Enables the victim to follow general orders by the administrator without limiting the knowledge base or constant supervision. Allows the victim to complete the instructions with some autonomy.

Regression - Drug. Fictional. Drug used by the Lucian Alliance to eliminate the resistance of the males they use to breed females in their breeding program. Reduces male to an 'eat, threat, fuck' mental state.

RepliCarter – Fictional. Character. The human-form replicator created with Sam Carter's memories by Fifth.

Replicators – Fictional. Species. Name given to a non-organic life form that consumes all available resources and replicates blocks that form larger and more complex mechanisms. They react violently to being stopped. They are a scourge in the Ida Galaxy. They were originally from the Milky Way Galaxy and an Asgard scientist took them back to Ida. They eventually evolved to form "Human form Replicators" composed of nanite blocks.

Seks - Afrikaans. Sex. Sex slave. Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate those indentured for sex use. Sex slaves. Priority goes to making a profit for the Holding. Not the care of the slaves.

SG – Acronym. Stargate. Usually used with specific team numbers.

SGC – Acronym. Stargate Command.

Slaaf – Afrikaans. Slave. Usually unskilled male slaves.

Slave Brokers – Fictional. Group. Name given by System Lords to denote a group that decimates remote human populations to collect slaves. No one is left alive. No Jaffa are taken. None taken are ever found.

Slawe veg - Afrikaans. Fighting slave. Gladiator. Indentured. Used by the Lucian Alliance to entertain in the fighting pits.

SP – Acronym. Security Police. USAF military police. Renamed to Security Forces. SF.

SpecOps – Short Term. Special Operations. Elite military units. Each branch of military service has a Special Operations Group that consists of teams. The United States Air Force has the SpecOps group that consists of Pararescue, Combat Controllers, Special Tactics, and Contingency Combat Specialists.

Stargate - Device. Fictional. The main device created by the Alterans to create a stable wormhole for other planets. Other Names: Chappa'ai, Anulus, Portal, Doorway to Heaven, Doorway to Hell, Ring.

Submit - Drug. Fictional. AU. Drug used by the Lucian Alliance to ensure that the victim submits to the commands of the administrator even if the victim will become injured or it is against their core beliefs.

Suss – Slang. British slang. To investigate or figure out (usually followed by out ).

System Lord - Fictional. Goa'uld Rank. Indicates the status of a Goa'uld who has sworn allegiance to a High System Lord and is given the care of one or more planets to manage for the High System Lord. This Goa'uld may or may not have their own Jaffa. All usually have a lo'taur.

System Lord Council – Goa'uld Rank. Indicates the oversight council of all the System Lords in the Milky Way Galaxy. The council consists of a Supreme System Lord and six High System Lords. In the absence of a Supreme System Lord, another High System Lord is designated for that region of space.

Talchak Device – Fictional. Technology. The Talchak device is an Ancient device that the Goa'uld Talchak used to learn how to make the sarcophagus with the help of Anubis. The Talchak device was greatly flawed. It primarily reanimated dead flesh. The Sarcophagus was refined, but did not completely eliminate the flaw. Anubis attempted to acquire the Talchak device and Talchak hid the device on Earth. This device was later used to develop guns to kill the Kull Warriors.

Tano – African Deity. Tano (Tanoɛ, Ta Kora, Tano Kora/Akora, Tando) represents the aspects of war and strife, Thunder and Lightning, and the Tano River. He also represents the aspects of chaos and mass destruction.

Tatum Mine – Location. Fictional. AU. The naquadah mind located near Villam Tatum and used by Earth to mine naquadah with a treaty brokered by SG-1.

X-ray – X-Ray Radiation Screening Test. Non-invasive medical test to look for foreign objects in the human body. Uses ionizing radiation.

XO – Acronym. Executive Officer. Second in Command after the Commander or Team Leader.

ZPM – Acronym. Zero Point Module. Also called a ZedPM. Fictional energy source. Potentia (Ancient). Device. Power source. Humans have taken to calling this device a ZedPM or ZPM. The potentia is only able to store a small amount of power drawn from subspace. The power cell is reusable. It requires time to recharge from subspace. However, there is no limit to the number of uses for this type of power source. New power cells can be constructed, but only from the correct materials.
