Vangran: Yeah, that's where I got the idea.. I don't know much about the third semester requests yet but when I heard of this one, I really wanted to try it out. Well, the romance is going to take time to develop but it's definitely happening. I'm curious about something you mentioned though, I've seen fanfics pairing Akechi with the main character but never one with Ryuji. Can you tell me about one?
Okay, before I move on to the chapter...I've had this idea for a long while but I wasn't sure if it's any good. In the end, I figured might as well give it a shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Anyway, I came up with an opening for this fic. Here it is.

School progressed almost as it usually did in Shujin. The only strange thing was something Namine, Ann and Morgana happened to notice about Kawakami. She seemed very...weary, for lack of a better word. The teacher always seemed tired but it somehow seemed worse today.
''You think something happened?'' Morgana wondered as they watched the woman leave the class.
''Maybe she just had a long night?'' Ann offered.
Namine wasn't so sure, a part of her wondered if it had to do with all the negative press the school gathered-especially in these times
As they left class, they noticed Mishima talking to Ako nearby, the boy perked up while Ako smiled ''There you are.''
''Hey, what's up? Anything happen with Akari-chan?'' Namine inquired.
''Yup, we were just telling Nijima-kaichou. Hisashi came to the hospital when we were checking up on her yesterday. Get this-he actually apologized!'' The girl chirped. ''It looked like he really had changed so we gave them some space. We kept a close eye for a bit but everything seemed fine so we lef them to it. Akari told us later that they talked for hours. It looks like things are really looking up for them.''
''That's great!'' Namine said happily while Ann and Morgana smiled. They may have changed his heart but it was always nice to hear that their efforts were paying off.
''See? You had nothing to worry about-the Phantom Thieves worked it all out.'' Mishima stated.
''No arguing there. I guess that recent talk about them must have been a load of hot air after all...'' The first year remarked. ''...anyway, thanks for trying to help. Akari was really touched you two came to see her, Hyakuya-senpai. It made her happy, so I wanted to thank you for that too.''
''Aw, you're welcome. I think I'll go visit again today. Right before...'' She faltered, leaving them curious. ''...ah, sorry just thinking out loud. It's nothing.''
Ako bid them farewell and left, Ann hummed ''Good for them.''
Namine nodded and looked at Mishima ''See, and you were worried about your ability to help-look how much of a difference you made. Just goes to show, no way you were useless at all.''
''Wait, who said that? I'll kick their asses.'' Ann stated. She may not have been as close to Mishima like Namine and Ryuji were but she still counted him as a friend. He had done a lot for them too, there was no way she would simply let people look down on him.
Mishima laughed a bit, touched by Ann's anger on his behalf ''It's okay-it doesn't matter anymore. But thanks, Takamaki-san, I'm glad I could help. It felt really good to hear that things are working out...is that what it's like for you guys?''
The model half-smiled ''Definitely.''
''You really do have your own way to make a difference. Even if you're not fighting with us, it's because of you that so many people's voices could be heard. That's something to be proud of.'' Namine pointed out.
Mishima beamed back ''Thanks, Namine-san. I think so too. I'll do my best to keep that going.''
Morgana grinned as they left the hospital ''She sure looked happy, huh?''
''Yeah, they really do have a chance to be a family again.'' Namine remarked. Akari had been pleasantly surprised to see Namine again and happily regaled her with all that happened. There was such an improvement in the girl in so little time. They hadn't seen Hisashi but he was apparently bringing up food for his cousin but Akari assured them that he was much better off already.
''So what was that about before, Namine? It looked like you had some sort of plan but I don't think I've seen you act so tense.'' Morgana stated.
''Ah...it's something I've been thinking about for a while. I guess I keep wondering how this is going to work...'' The girl admitted before taking a breath, then beginning to explain...
Takuto spoke up once both he and Namine took their seats ''I wondered if you would take my offer, Hyakuya-san.''
''I wasn't sure for a while but I figured it could help.'' The girl admitted. ''...I don't know if I'm overthinking this but...maybe I'm getting cold feet...''
The man gave a reassuring smile ''It's all right, there's nothing to worry about. We don't have to talk about anything in particular-just take your time.''
They wound up talking about a few subjects and it made for a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere. Eventually, the talk shifted to stories about themselves, due to Takuto's curiosity about Namine (partly because of what he already knew from their shared acquaintances). It was all right though, Namine figured she had been worried over nothing as this was far better than she imagined.
''I see...this puts what I've heard together.'' Takuto said after a moment. ''I'm sorry to hear it. Those last few months must've been especially hard on you.''
''Well, I won't deny that...I'm trying to figure things out, I guess.'' Namine said at last. ''That's kind of why I'm here-I'm not sure I'm dealing with all that happened as well as I could be.''
''Perfectly understandable. Anyone would struggle with experiences like yours-it's good that you're thinking this far ahead, it will definitely help you.'' Takuto returned. ''But since we're being honest wih each other...'' The girl gave him a curious look. ''...I imagine you've heard some talk about me from others?''
''Oh yeah, like back when I ran into you at that store...'' Namine remembered. ''...I think one of the clerks mentioned something about being involved in a scandal but she had a hard time believing it was true.''
''I suppose the story did get vague over time but...it's true in a sense.'' He admitted, leaving her puzzled. ''You see, almost a year ago I was working on a research...something I intended to help people. I was almost set to open a research facility in Odaiba. It looked like my work attracted the attention of some powerful people though-I was approached by a few figures who kept asking about it. I didn't think much of that at first since I've been told my work could be revolutionary but that's when it all started.''
''What was your research about?'' The girl inquired.
The answer took both present Phantom Thieves by surprise ''Cognitive Pscience.''
''Wait, what?'' Morgana stared. He was another Metaverse researcher?!
Takuto didn't miss the recognition in Namine's expression at this ''Ah, you're familiar with it?''
''Well...in a way, my friend's mother was the one who founded it.'' She stated, seeing no harm in admitting that much.
''You know Dr. Isshiki's daughter?'' Takuto looked surprised. ''I came to learn about her over time, she was quite a genius. I saw examples of her work over the internet and I was inspired-it felt like I could really combine it with my work to help people.''
''That sounds good...what exactly happened, Maruki-sensei?''
''My research center was destroyed.'' He admitted, the girl's eyes widening at the news.''Those strange visitors eventually left me suspicious-they kept talking about wanting to use my work. Something about them just rubbed me the wrong way and I found that I simply couldn't work together with them. Later that night, I received a call telling me that the center was on fire. By the time I made it, it was too late.''
''So that's it...'' Morgana's ears drooped.
''The police couldn't find anything regarding how the fire was started and the case was shut before it really even started.'' Takuto stated, leaving them surprised. ''The next thing I knew, people began believing I was one of those responsible. Supposedly, there were remains of an alcohol bottle found in the rubble-they think it was left near a heat source and...well...that was all there was to it.''
''That's terrible! They can't just blame you for this without proof.'' Namine pointed out.
''Eventually, some realized that too...'' He admitted. ''...I heard there was someone else seen near the center just before the fire started. The police believed he was a suspect but he died of a psychotic breakdown.''
''Damn...'' Morgana uttered. This whole deal was getting convoluted. Still, someone wanted Takuto's research and suddenly, this mysterious person appeared? That was definitely suspicious...
''In the end, the damage was done, my research was lost in the fire. I moved here and got to start over-I've focused on my work as a consultant ever since.'' He finished.
''Glad that you're actually bouncing back from this.'' Namine offered.
''Thanks, I am too. I can't imagine how I would've handled this without my girlfriend's support.'' Takuto admitted. ''Which brings me to my next point-Hyakuya-san, I've actually known about you for almost two years now.''
She blinked, clearly not expecting that ''What do you mean? How?''
''It's because of my girlfriend...see, Rumi and her mother...they were staying at a friend's house back then in a quiet town...'' He closed his eyes for a moment. ''...they were part of the people who were involved in that burglary incident at your hometown.''
Namine's eyes widened and he went on ''They were two of the people you saved that day. Things were really bad for a while...her father was killed by those terrible people, you see. But they were able to pull through and you gave them the chance to do so.''
''Wow...'' The girl had no idea how to react to this. She knew her name had been kept out of most news about the incident. She was told that there were those who tried to find her so they could thank her, however she never expected to hear something like this now. To think Takuto was connected to someone who had been there...
''I know how you feel, I was just as surprised when I figured it was you. After hearing a story like that, your name certainly stuck with me.'' He admitted. ''We can't thank you enough for that day. I don't know what I would've done if Rumi and her mother had died as well.''
''Ah, h-hold on, I didn't do that to be thanked...'' Namine managed, seeming embarrassed. ''...honestly, most of that day is a blur to me now. It just felt like I had to do something-anyone could have done it...''
''I'd imagine you'll find many people who'd argue against that-me among them.'' The man countered.
''Me too!'' Morgana piped up.
''Thanking you is the least we can do.'' Takuto stated. ''Though this has me wondering...how did the people involved back in your hometown handle the incident?''
''I don't know for sure...'' Namine admitted. ''...I guess they were grateful, some of them kept calling me a hero and whatnot. It's just...back then, I was still coming to terms with all that happened-that two years of my life just vanished. I don't regret the choice I made but there was so much going on back then that I didn't really think about it.''
''And they simply believed you to be a criminal just like that?'' Takuto's brow furrowed when she nodded. He felt for her, this was so cruel. As if what she lost already wasn't bad enough-now this? How could the people simply disregard all they knew about the girl and trust the word of a stranger over hers? Didn't she at least deserve the benefit of the doubt?
Shaking that line of thought away, he decided to change the subject ''The truth is, I told Rumi about you-she was really surprised but she wants to show her gratitude. She just had to travel for her work but knowing her, she won't waste time when she returns.''
Namine began to smile ''Well, like I said-I'm not really expecting anything from anyone but...seeing how reckless I was that day...I'm happy I did make a difference.''
''You definitely did.'' Surprised as he was, Takuto couldn't help but marvel at the girl's noble spirit. Namine thought of the others before herself even after what day cost her. She didn't really understand that her action that day had given others strength, it allowed them to fight back in that seemingly hopeless situation, it was remarkable. She displayed courage and strength of those beyond her years. He silently vowed to do what he could to help her, feeling it was the right thing to do.
''By the way, some of the things you mentioned have me wondering...do you remember the person behind your arrest now?'' Takuto clarified, seeing her nod. ''I see-how did you deal with that?''
''Ah, well enough, I guess...turns out he's someone really powerful.'' The girl said at last. ''A friend suggested that I put his name of the Phan-Site so the Phantom Thieves would get back at him.''
''Well, I can see why-plenty of people your age seem to believe in them. How do you feel about that?''
Morgana looked at the girl curiously, what Shido did was still a touchy subject and they hardly had time to deal with it. With all they had to deal around that time, he wasn't sure what Namine wanted either.
The girl sighed ''I...don't know. A part of me wants payback but...another part just doesn't see the point. What's done is done, I...really can't look back at everyone in that place the same way again. Besides after that story...'' She trailed off, remembering something she'd heard a long time ago before shaking her head. ''...I don't even know what he's like, if he deserves that. I'm still mad, I hate that he got away with it but at the same time, I'm not sure it's up to me to judge him. Besides, I don't see how revenge is going to improve anything. I doubt it make me feel better.''
Her companion frowned, knowing she had a point. Even if they did make Shido confess, how would that help her? After the awful way the people in her old home treated her? He couldn't see it either.
And neither could Takuto ''I see your point. Though I have to admit you're taking this better than I imagined-anyone would want revenge on someone who wronged them. It's good to hear that you're thinking about this so deeply. I don't think pursuing revenge would be doing you any favors either. Perhaps it's just not in your nature to want that? It's all right if you have your doubts, the fact that you considered all this proves you're wise. Even if you don't feel that way, I think the answer will come to you in time.''
''Right...I'll keep that in mind.''
He nodded back ''Now...one other thing, you made it sound like there was a specific reason that convinced you to come see me other than trying to cope with your new situation-do I have that right?''
''Yeah...'' Namine started. ''...sometimes, I...I don't really know how to deal with my family.'' She shook her head. ''That probably wasn't the best way to put it but...it's just-my family's been broken up ever since the arrest...and it feels like it's my fault.''
''There's no way that's true!'' Morgana exclaimed.
Takuto may not have understood the feline but he certainly shared the same opinion ''It doesn't seem that way. Did you talk to your grandparents about this? Do they blame you?''
''No...I almost did bring it up before but...'' Namine knew what they would say-that she shouldn't feel responsible. The emotion was still there though, even after these months, it wasn't something she could simply dismiss. All what happened around the time she was arrested made her feel like someone smashed her heart to pieces. ''...if that night hadn't happened...Everyone just treat me like I was nothing...They said they did what they thought was best and they could never agree with my parents abandoning me but...I really appreciate them and all they've done but there's no way this mess didn't affect them...that it didn't hurt.''
''That's true.'' The man agreed. ''I'd imagine it must have been a hard time for them as well. You mentioned that the three of you are close so I see where you're coming from. But the thing is, they all made their choices, didn't they? That definitely means something, you shouldn't be held responsible for that. Look at it this way, you know your grandparents so well-does it seem like they would do any of this grudgingly? Like they would hate you too?''
Namine looked surprised at this but she knew the answer ''No...they wouldn't.''
''There you have it.'' Takuto returned. ''It's nice that you're concerned with their feelings but the same seems to go for them. I'll be completely blunt, you're far from the one responsible for this terrible situation-they are. Your parents failed you and they realized that. Have your grandparents ever given you reason any reason to doubt their sincerity?'' The girl shook her head. ''Good, then there's nothing to worry about. I understand your apprehension but something like this should be cleared up-preferably soon. I think it'll be better for the three of you.''
The girl's expression seemed pensive ''Ah, right-I'll see about it. Can we leave things at this? You've given me plenty to think about, Maruki-sensei...is it okay if I come again?''
Takuto smiled ''Absolutely.''
I am thou, thou art I
Thou hast acquired a new vow.
It shall become the wings of rebellion
That breaketh thy chains of captivity.
With the birth of the Councillor Arcana,
I have obtained the winds of blessing that shall lead to freedom and a new power...
Morgana spoke up shortly left after they left ''...Namine, if we ever run into your parents, I'm definitely going to hurt them.''
He wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the team decided to do the same-especially if they knew of what she had mentioned in the office. Morgana felt awful, he had never known she was dealing with this sort of emotions.
The girl sat down in a bench and exhaled, the cat hopping to her lap before speaking ''You've been thinking about this a lot, huh?''
''Ever since I remembered all what happened that night.'' Namine admitted. ''I'm just not sure...guess I pushed those feelings back for a while but...they were still there. I honestly didn't think I'd tell Maruki-sensei that much either.''
''Well, he's a pretty nice guy and it looks like he's really good at his job. Having a new perspective could help when you feel stuck, besides telling all that stuff is a really good thing.'' The cat pointed out. ''Don't you feel better?''
Her lips twitched ''Yeah...''
''Then that's what matters-I think he's right. The best you can do now is clear things up with your grandparents.'' Morgana stated. He could understand why couldn't bring herself to do that before. Many people she should've been able to count on had treated her like she was worthless, It was a wonder she was dealing with all that went down this well.
Namine nodded, she had come close to bringing the subject up before but it turned out that she couldn't bring herself to do it. ''...That really was a surprise though...what he said about his girlfriend.''
''Tell me about it. To think he was connected to someone involved in that incident...'' Morgana trailed off. ''...Maruki's a Metaverse researcher too, makes me wonder what his research was like.''
''He was inspired by Isshiki-san...and now both of their works were taken. It can't be a coincidence, right?''
Morgana nodded ''What does it all mean?''
Iwai turned slightly as the shop's door opened and Namine walked in ''There you are.''
''Hi. I got your message, something about needing help with a meeting?'' The girl tilted her head slightly.
''Yeah, we're going to the diner over in Shibuya. Let's just say I'm catching up with someone I haven't seen in years.'' Iwai explained. ''I want you to just wait nearby. Call me when I cough twice and I'll take care of the rest.''
''Got it.''
He nodded back ''All right, let's go.''
''Man, it sure has been a while, Mune-san!'' Masa enthused once they were both settled at table. ''Seems like your business it coming along nicely.''
''Heh, I guess so.'' Iwai returned. ''So I've been wondering, how's Tsuda doing?''
''Tsuda-san? Same as usual, more or less.'' Masa replied. ''Didn't you two cut ties back when you left years ago?''
The latter kept a neutral expression ''Well, you know, it's been this long, I thought we could bury the hatchet.''
''Ah, gotcha.'' Masa nodded. ''Sounds fine to me. I could ask for you.''
''Thanks.'' He coughed twice.
Masa cocked his head ''You sick or something?''
''Just a cold.'' Iwai looked to his phone as it rang, inwardly smiling as he answered. ''Hey, so you got your order?...Wait, it's all wrong. My bad, I'll go sort this out right away.'' He hung up. ''Sorry, I've gotta go, business calls.''
''I get it. No worries, see ya around.''
Namine glanced at Masa as he was making a call ''Iwai-san?''
''Just keep doing what you're doing, kid.'' He returned quietly.
Both then heard Masa speak ''Yo, Tsuda-san. You were right. Seems Mune-san wanted to cash in on your deal after all.'' He hummed and nodded as he began walking out. Namine blinked, what deal was he talking about?
Masa went on ''Yeah, don't worry it's no trouble. Nothing like that happened. I don't think he wanted to break it.''
Namine bit her lip ''He's gone. I don't think I can keep this up now.''
''I know, that's fine. Let's just leave it at that.'' Iwai assured. ''Honestly, I wasn't expecting much of anything from you but I'm glad to be wrong here. You did good, kid.''
Later, back in Leblanc...
Sojiro approached Namine ''So you went to see the councillor today, right? How'd that go?''
The girl told him about parts of the session and he listened patiently until she was done. The barista spoke up afterwards, frowning ''Maruki was right. Don't ever think you were responsible for what happened. The way I see it, your parents are to blame. No one actually told you, did they?''
''Told me what?''
''I found out by chance but it looks like there were tensions building between your parents and grandparents before.'' He admitted, surprising her and Morgana. ''No wonder you didn't know before-the worst of it happened back when you were comatose. They never actually explained the full problem. From the sound of it, there were arguments between them over a bunch of things and the tension just kept rising. I think Itsuki mentioned something about how your parents kept focusing on their work to get more power and keep making money but they neglected those who were important to them-even turning on some of their values. They would do loads to reach their goals. Yuri and Itsuki were never going to just accept something like that. In the end, I guess they figured their differences were too big for them to really get along like they used to.''
Namine was thrown for a loop, she had seen some arguments but everything had seemed all right back then. She knew the four of them had their own beliefs that could sometimes clash with the other but it never occurred to her that things were this bad. What could've happened?
''I never realized...with all what was going on back then...'' The girl trailed off.
''Ah, you had a lot on your plate-which is probably why they didn't tell you.'' Sojiro guessed. After all, recovering from that coma and trying to catch up with what she lost was anything but easy. ''You should talk to them. Still, it looks like you made good progress there.''
''It feels that way.'' Namine admitted. She didn't think she would've been as open to talking to Takuto if it had been a few months earlier. Today had certainly helped, there was no denying that. ''...Actually, I think part of the reason it worked this well was something he mentioned-it really was a surprise...''
Sojiro gave her a curious look as he asked ''Oh yeah? What's that?''
The next day...
Having agreed to go meet Yusuke at an art exhibition later, Namine decided to go see Akechi so they could talk about their investigation of Kawanabe. The two were currently outside the police station. Akechi listened to everything Namine told him about their last run in with the art veteran...
''I see...it certainly seems like Kawanabe is a good man. There's really not much information to go on.'' The detective mused when she finished.
''I think so too. I mean, it's a little early to say for sure but the rumors seem baseless around him, don't they?'' The girl returned. Even Morgana had tried to shadow the man before and he had found nothing suspicious-hell, they even tried to check his name on the Nav. It turned out that Kawanabe had no Shadow too. She couldn't help but wonder if they were overthinking this-the man really didn't seem to mean any harm.
Akechi thought about that ''...Maybe, but it seems best to reserve any judgement for now. How about we see if we can gather a little more information to be safe?''
Namine figured that shouldn't be a problem ''All right...''
The boy was about to go on but then they heard a few murmurs surrounding them, bringing their attention to quite a few people nearby whose eyes were on Akechi. It looked like there the usual people who held nothing but disdain for the teen but there were also a few curious stragglers who were curious about his next course of action regarding the Phantom Thieves.
''Ah, excuse me...perhaps it's best if I try that disguise after all...'' Akechi mused, retreating to the station.
''Disguise?'' Namine looked curious.
''...I think some of those people were reporters. I can't say I blame him for trying to be careful.'' Morgana stated.
She nodded, the detective had mentioned that he would prefer not to say much about the ongoing investigation after all ''Makes sense...''
''Hyakuya-san?''
The girl started and turned, seeing a surprised Sae stopping at the nearby door when she noticed her ''What're you doing here?''
Sae's expression was one of surprise after she was brought up to speed ''You're helping Akechi-kun on a case?''
''Mmhm, is that bad?'' Namine returned.
''Ah, no...just surprising...'' She trailed off, curious. It really didn't seem like the teenager to ask for help but perhaps she didn't know him as she thought she did.
''He basically needs an extra set of eyes to find evidence and there was no reason I shouldn't help.'' Namine stated.
The girl stopped to think ''Nijima-san, if you don't mind me asking, what made you want to become a prosecutor?''
Sae tilted her head a little ''My motives...I haven't even thought of those in a long time. I suppose with the way our family is, working in law enforcement just appealed to me.''
''Heeh, that's like what Makoto said.'' Namine recalled. ''That it's because of your dad. You're both lucky...I don't have the slightest idea what I want to be.''
''That's normal, though you're certainly going all the way to find out, no?'' At the girl's surprised look, she added. ''Your work in Leblanc aside, I've seen you assisting that politician. Toranosuke Yoshida.''
''Yup, it's just-ah, when opportunity knocks, you know?''
Sae nodded ''I take it the rumors about him changing are true?''
''Yeah, he wants to make up for his mistakes years ago. He's just trying to succeed in the election. It sounds like people are saying some pretty lousy stuff about him but he's really nice to me.'' Namine returned. ''Kind of just goes to show that you shouldn't judge people before you know them.''
''Hm, true...'' Both turned slightly as the door opened and they saw Akechi step out.
''Well, time to go.'' Namine paused. ''Oh, right-Nijima-san, Boss was wondering why you haven't shown up around Leblanc for a while.''
''I think you know the answer, Hyakuya-san. It would be rather tactless for me to go back as if nothing happened.'' Sae returned.
''It's also wrong to leave things hanging in the air-especially if you feel bad about this.''
''Fair point.'' The prosecutor conceded. ''That being said, I'm surprised you're this calm about it. Makoto made her displeasure of my stance on that case known...not that I'm about to complain.''
Her sister's vehement stance on this had certainly been unexpected but Makoto had made her disdain of the methods Sae used to get information from Sojiro perfectly clear. Sae had dismissed them as childish concerns at first but the more she looked back, the more she realized a part of her agreed with her little sister. The fact that Akechi shared Makoto's opinion on this merely made her think her stance over this.
''I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mad.'' Namine admitted, the guilt in the woman's tone made her feel a bit better about this. ''They didn't deserve any of that mess. But that's also why I think you owe Boss and Futaba an apology-for the record, Futaba going back to her so called family is really only going to make a bad situation way worse.''
Sae's eyebrows went up, Makoto had also insinuated something similar before-it looked like there really was more to the situation than she knew. ''I'll keep that in mind.''
The girl seemed to think that was enough-to Sae's relief, and so went on to join Akechi. It wasn't long before both teens fell into talking as they left the station and Sae was surprised to see how the detective appeared relaxed and even easygoing. They were better friends than it appeared, it seemed.
Sae found that a pleasant surprise, knowing that there was more to Akechi than simply the self he tended to display every now and then. As Namine said, there was no need to judge people before you knew them. Given some of their exchanges, she had the distinct impression that both the changes with him and her sister related to Namine. Sojiro's new ward was an interesting girl.
''Here we are.'' Yusuke said as they entered the gallery.
Namine's eyes widened at the numerous paintings present around them. It reminded her of Madarame's exhibit but somehow, this one held much more variety ''Whoa...I can see why you'd think this place could be an inspiration. This is impressive, just look at them all...''
''Indeed, I have been curious about this place ever since I heard that it was sponsored by the Japanese Art Support Foundation.'' He admitted. ''I've had my doubts given the way he behaved but...''
''Let's not worry about that stuff now.'' Namine spoke up when he didn't continue. ''Kawanabe-san's character aside, we both know the foundation's rep is impressive. This should be good, you just try to focus on the paintings. Now, let's see if you can find some inspiration, shall we?''
The artist gave a small smile ''Yes...''
Soon, Yusuke was all too happily regaling his companion with details he knew about japanese art ''...As these paintings indicate, japanese art is extremely elegant and sophisticated. It is all the more fascinating with the variety it offers, truly an example of the creativity of human beings.''
Yusuke couldn't help but raise an eye at the amused smile she sent him then ''What is it?''
''Oh, I was just thinking...you're totally into this now, huh?'' She grinned, making him pause as he realized that was true.
He hadn't even realized how he had gotten immersed in the subject of art but it helped that Namine made for an attentive audience, showing clear interest in certain areas.
''That's a better look for you.'' Namine added. ''You know, more like someone who really loves art. It's similar to when we first met...lately, you were kinda...''
''Say no more, I know just what you mean.'' He returned. It had been the reason behind his friends' concern. Yusuke had been wound up over getting past his slump and pushing himself so much that he hardly even stopped to truly enjoy art like he used to. ''I'd almost forgotten what it was like...having your company has certainly been quite a help on that front.''
The girl smiled and he couldn't help but think how much he preferred that look on her, he was suddenly reminded of his wish to have her model for him.
She truly was beautiful and her innate kindness only enhanced that beauty to him. If it hadn't been for Namine being so patient with him, Yusuke doubted he could've made any sort of progress regarding the slump. Before he quite knew it, he found himself looking forward to those outings with her. The teen truly enjoyed those times, often relying on her opinion as if he would his own-he wondered what that said about things.
The two stopped near an elaborate calligraphy scroll, taking a moment to admire its beauty.
''You know, I always kind of pictured calligraphy as a little boring but if it actually lets you make stuff like that, wow...'' Namine trailed off.
Yusuke chuckled ''Well, I can see where you're coming from. Calligraphy may be regarded as old and traditional, thus the boring angle but it truly can be a beautiful skill. This piece just shows how skilled the creator was.''
''For sure.'' She agreed. It was nice to see her friend so animated and in his element. Many may dismiss him as odd but she thought everyone had their own quirks and there was nothing wrong with that. Come on, how boring would it be if people were all the same?
''Speaking of skill...'' Yusuke started, noticing a painting depicting the sea not too far away. ''...here is another example, what brilliant colors. It is a fine image of the sea.''
Namine thought so too ''That almost makes it seem like you're actually in front of the water, huh?''
''Absolutely.'' He concurred as they kept walking, looking to find more pieces...
Yusuke spoke up once they approached the door ''By the way, Namine, my offer from the other day stands-is there any particular place you wish to visit?''
The girl blinked ''Ah, yeah-I thought you said wanted to eat though...''
''That can wait. It's only right after all.''
She gave a small smile ''Well...it's actually a place I saw on our way here...''
Her choice turned out to be a small music store close to the gallery. Yusuke felt a surge of amusement as he watched Namine's face light up while she surveyed the area. It just went to show that she could really enjoy music like she used. That sight alone made his day.
Namine was glad the store let you play a few instruments while under one of the workers' watchful eye. She spotted a guitar nearby and wasted no time in picking it up. Yusuke gave her a curious look ''Do you know how to play that?''
''Yup, the piano was the first instrument I learned to play-this was the second.'' She admitted. ''The more I found out about music, the more I was hooked. I wanted to learn all I can.''
Her friend began to smile ''I certainly understand the feeling.'' His smile widened as the girl began to strum a few notes.
The worker nearby looked impressed ''Hey, not bad. How about we hear a little more?''
Namine laughed a bit. It felt so good to enjoy her old hobby like this. ''Sure.''
She continued to play, creating a lively, upbeat tune that left the listeners nearby pleasantly surprised. Unlike at the karaoke, this didn't really draw much people as the small store only had a few people about but Namine clearly didn't care as she was having fun.
''Okay, I take what you said back-you're damn good, little lady.'' The worker said when she was finished. The girl thanked him and went over to Yusuke.
''Nicely done.'' He praised.
She smiled ''Thanks!''
Hours later, Futaba brought a game console to Leblanc, wanting to play a game with her friends. Soon, she, Namine and Morgana were joined by Ann, Ryuji and Shiho.
Futaba finished setting up the console on Namine's newly bought TV, glancing back at the others ''So it's just us now?''
''Looks that way, the others are all busy.'' Ryuji informed, surveying the game with interest. ''Come on, let's fire this thing up!''
Since it was a racing game, Futaba and Ryuji agreed to make it a little competition between them. They wasted no time in trying to drag the others into it but none of the girls had any interest whatsoever.
''You kids can have your own fun, we just want to take it easy.'' Ann stated.
''Too bad, huh, Ryuji? Let's hope this competition won't be as bad as the last one.'' Futaba grinned.
''H-hey, I totally could've won that one. Kawakami's the one who bailed!'' The boy said defensively.
''I'm pretty sure she was making sure you could save face. She was practically an expert at fishing.'' Morgana stated.
Shiho looked curious ''What's this about Sensei?''
''Oh, apparently they ran into her a while back. Turns out Sensei is really, really good at fishing. From what Futaba mentioned, she made most of the people that day look like amateurs.'' Ann informed.
The black haired girl blinked ''I never pictured her as the type...''
''I know just what you mean. Ryuji challenged her to prove who was better at fishing and I guess she got either got bored or figured he'd keep dragging it on because she just decided to leave.'' Her best friend returned.
''Ah...he's just as competitive as he was middle school then?''
Ann snorted ''I say he's gotten worse.''
Namine looked amused ''I forgot you three knew each other since then. Things must have been different, huh?''
''Yeah, kind of...Ryuji was even more of a hothead if you can believe it.'' Ann stated.
''Oh, I believe it...'' Morgana stated.
The boy, who had been focused on the game with Futaba, looked back them ''So hey, were just talkin', who'd you root for in a video game? The hero or the villain?''
''I'd have to say the hero.'' Shiho offered, Morgana nodded to show he agreed with her.
''Hm, depends on what the characters are like.'' Namine said after a moment.
''Really? I'd probably root for the villain.'' Ann admitted.
Ryuji grinned ''Ah, of course you'd say that...you know, I can just picture you in a Cat Woman costume.''
She stiffened, feeling her face grow warm as she knew that meant her soul armor ''Shut up!''
The two began to bicker, making most of the group look on with exasperation at the familiar sight.
Namine rolled her eyes ''Here we go again.''
Shiho laughed weakly ''They were like this back in middle school too.''
''Somehow, that doesn't surprise me...'' The first stated. The two blonds had been getting along better, especially recently but their tendency to squabble certainly remained, it seemed.
Futaba glanced at them with a contemplative look ''You know, I heard of some TV shows where people argue a whole lot and it turns out they actually have great chemistry. You think that could apply here?''
''Fat chance.'' Morgana said dismissively. ''Ryuji with Lady Ann? I can't see it. Besides, TV shouldn't be used as a guide for stuff about life anyway.''
The hacker was about to concede the point but then Shiho spoke up ''I can actually see it...After some of the things Ann told me...''
Futaba looked intrigued, a familiar glint of mischief entering her eyes as she gave the girl her full attention. Shiho already looked like she regretted her slip but Futaba was grinning ''Oh, like what?''
''I'm not touching the subject with a ten foot pole.''
She deflated at Shiho's response ''Aww, come on...''
''Futaba, after seeing that look on your face, it's a smart choice to drop the subject.'' Namine stated flatly. That look would only lead to trouble after all.
Shiho nodded ''Also, Ann would never let me hear the end of it if she finds out I told anyone, let alone you. I'm all up for teasing but this is not worth the headache.''
Namine completely understood ''Wise choice.''
Futaba huffed ''You're no fun, Shiho.''
Namine picked up one of the game controllers ''Moving along, leaving them to it-anyone up for a game?''
Well, let's stop here.
I think the opening makes it clear but Takuto can't really enter the Metaverse yet and Persona's influence is practically minimal but it's part of the reason he started doing the research. After reading about P5r's story, I got this new plot for him in mind and I really want to try it out. I'll admit, I've been thinking about having Namine coming to Takuto with her problems ever since I decided to try using him here. I feel that some of the stuff in that session needed, I've touched upon this before but Namine still needs time to really cope with the consequences of the arrest. You don't get over stuff like that quickly, her trust in most adults has been shot to hell, hence her apprehension with Takuto. His honesty and general approach helped her try to open up to him. He's actually right by the way, all the tension between her family was basically set off after what Shido did to Namine.
I thought about bringing in someone involved with the burglary incident back when I started the story. At first, I wasn't sure how to handle it-I didn't want it to be any OC, it was better for the character to have some good impact so in the end, I decided for it to be Rumi.
Anywho, in case I got anyone confused, the reason Namine isn't quite decided on how to handle the thing with Shido is that she has no idea he's an evil scumbag. There's another reason but I didn't want to shove everything here so I'll explain that one next chapter. Back to the first reason, seeing what a change of heart does, she maintains her policy in that it shouldn't just be used on anyone. The Phantom Thieves were just starting to investigate him when all the mess with Mona and then learning the truth about Haru's situation so their plans got derailed.
Well, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy it. Please tell me what you think about the opening, till next time!
