Elena was laying on the living room couch, resting, while Finn was in a nearby chair reading from her mother's grimoire and Jeremy was watching TV. She had just had one of her magical training sessions with Finn and Kol. They taught her a powerful boundary spell with Esther's grimoire. She'd really enjoyed doing it, but now she was extremely tired.
Finn was flipping through his sister's grimoire. Freya was obviously very powerful given the strong spells she had. There were a number of unlinking spells, as well as other defensive spells and locator spells. Some of those spells were even more powerful than the spells in his mother's grimoire. "Elena, have you ever attempted a locator spell to find your mother? You won't be in trouble if you say yes."
Elena chuckled. "Of course I have. As soon as I realized I still had my magic in this body, I tried one. I've known how to do a simple locator spell since I was eleven. My mom wanted me to know in case we got separated. But it didn't work. She must have cloaked herself as soon as she was away from me."
"It sounds like your mom knew you well," Jeremy said with a smirk.
"Nah. She didn't think my magic would follow me into this body. She did it to keep herself safe from any possible threat while she was asleep. She probably would have done the same thing to me, but if a witch came across me, it would have been a big beacon. Powerful witches can see cloaking magic on other witches," Elena explained.
"Yes, I thought locator spells were probably out, but I wanted to be sure. It was worth a shot," Finn said.
"Can you teach me how to do one of the more powerful locator spells? Like one of the ones in my mom's grimoire?" Elena asked. It wouldn't help her find her mother, but she still wanted to learn. She loved learning new spells.
"Now don't get ahead of yourself, dear. The spell I just taught you today left you extremely weary. You will learn, but at an appropriate pace," Finn told her.
Elena sighed. "It's just an agonizingly slow pace."
Finn chuckled. "You remind me very much of your Uncle Kol sometimes. You need to have some patience."
"Yeah, yeah," Elena said before sitting up. She then got to her feet.
"Elena, you need to be resting," Finn said firmly.
"I'm just going to get something to eat. I'm hungry. And I'm fine, Uncle Finn, just a little tired," Elena said.
"Alright, but I don't want you doing anything strenuous until at least after dinner," Finn said.
Elena nodded before heading out of the room. On her way to the kitchen, she heard the doorbell. "I've got it!" she announced before going to the door and answering it. When she opened the door, she found three vampires there. "Can I help you?"
"They, there. I'm Marcel. I can see that you're new around here, but I control this city," one of them said.
"That's great for you. Did you want something or were you just going door to door to spout useless information?" Elena asked in a bored tone.
Marcel chuckled. "Someone in this house recently performed powerful magic."
"More useless information. I'm aware of that. It was me. Are we done?" Elena asked.
"How old are you?" Marcel asked. She looked like she could be anywhere from sixteen to nineteen. It was difficult to tell the age of a teenager sometimes. If she was under eighteen, it complicated things. Witchcraft in his city was met with death, but he didn't harm children.
"I'm not sure how that's your business, but sixteen," Elena said.
Marcel sighed. "I'd like to talk to your parents please."
"So would I," Elena said in a sassy tone.
Finn came out at that moment with Jeremy right behind him. He'd heard the entire conversation, of course. "What can I help you with?"
Marcel looked at the man, or vampire would be more accurate. This was interesting. Witches and vampires didn't often cohabitate. "Are you her guardian or something?"
"One of them. Now, what do you want?" Finn asked.
"He's whining about my boundary spell," Elena said.
"Look, this is my city. I don't allow magic in the Quarter without my consent," Marcel said.
Elena laughed mockingly. "Seriously. Witches actually put up with that nonsense?"
"Watch your mouth, little girl?" one of the other vampires hissed.
"I suggest you watch yours," Finn said in a deadly and cold tone. He would not allow anyone to speak to his niece that way.
Elena looked at her uncle. "Can I break their necks, Uncle Finn? Please?"
"What part of 'do nothing strenuous was unclear?" Finn asked her.
Just then, Kol came into the room. "Oh, look, it's Nik's little pet."
"Kol,' Marcel said in surprise. This complicated things even further. He had no idea the Originals were back in town, and apparently they had q witch under their control.
Kol smirked and made his way over. "Hello, Marcel. I thought you were dead. It's too bad that seemed to have been exaggerated."
"Wait, you guys know this fool?" Elena asked.
"I do not," Finn said.
"Nik took him in as a kid. Not sure what he was thinking with that. Now, apparently, it's gone to his head," Kol said.
"Where's Klaus? What the hell is he using this girl for?" Marcel asked. It seemed obvious to him that the Originals, and mainly Klaus, were using this young girl for something nefarious. Why else would she be there? He'd heard the girl call Finn her uncle, but that couldn't be the case. All the Originals were vampires. They couldn't have children.
"Well, the rest of my siblings are out at the moment, and what we do is none of your concern," Kol said.
"Oh, didn't you hear. This is 'his' city?" Elena said mockingly.
Kol laughed. "That's hilarious, but Marcel knows he's no threat to us."
"It's time for you to go. I don't' care about your rules. The girl will do magic whenever she pleases," Finn said.
Marcel looked at the young girl. "If you need any help, you can give anyone around town my name, and they'll tell you how to find me."
Elena snorted. "Yeah, sure."
Marcel reluctantly took his men and left. There was nothing more he could do right now.
Elena shut the door and turned to look at her uncles. "That was weird.
"Don't mind Marcel. He's an idiot. Nik and Rebekah are going to be pissed when they find out he's still alive," Kol said. They'd grieved the boy. They wouldn't be pleased to find out it was for nothing.
Elena stumbled a little on her feet. She was still quite tired.
"Alright, back on the couch or to your bedroom. I don't want you on your feet for the next few hours. I'll go get you your snack," Finn told his niece.
'Fine," Elena said before heading back to the living room.

Freya was sitting at a bar having a drink. It had been a long day, and she was no closer to finding her daughter. She had a list of high schools in the New Orleans area. There were actually quite a few. She'd visited two today. She'd had to use magic to get any information, but it turned out that her daughter wasn't at either school. Tomorrow, she would check the others. She might also have to look at neighboring towns. She wasn't sure how far away she could be from Elena for the link between them to be active. It could be the entire state.
Freya also had to consider the possibility that Elena wasn't in school. The thing she feared the most right now was that Elena wasn't being cared for by anyone, that she had run away. Freya didn't want to think about her child being alone in the world. Anything could happen to her.
Freya soon heard voices from a few feet away. There were two male vampires at a table not far from the bar. She recognized one of them. She'd seen him at her brothers' Christmas party in 1914.
"You can't just let this go, Marcel. Witches are doing magic without your permission."
"I don't hurt kids, Diego. Besides, I'm pretty sure that girl is being used for something," Marcel said.
"And what about the magic performed at those schools? You think it's the same girl?" Diego asked.
Freya muttered a spell under her breath to make sure she could hear them better.
"No. Maybe if it was just one school, but it wasn't. I've got to find that witch. Who knows what she's trying to do. I won't let any kids get hurt," Marcel said.
"Yeah, you've got to kill her. You need to send a message," Diego said.
Freya snorted. She wished them good luck with that. These vampires had some ego on them.
"I know what I've got to do," Marcel said a bit irritably.
"And you've got to do something about the girl too. If the witches know that you've done nothing about her using magic, they're going to revolt," Diego said.
"I'm not going to hurt a teenaged girl. Kids are off limits. You know that," Marcel said.
"Then take it out on those that allow her to do it. They are adults," Diego reasoned.
Marcel chuckled. "Take out the Originals. Yeah, that's easier said than done."
Freya's interest was peaked once more. They were talking about her siblings. They were still in the city? Well, either that or they had returned to the city, and apparently they had a teenaged girl living with them. What were the odds of that while knowing that her daughter was in Louisianna?
Freya shook her head. It wasn't possible. The girl living with them was a witch, and Elena wouldn't have access to her magic in her current body, at least Freya didn't think so. That spell hadn't been performed before Freya had done it, not to her knowledge anyway. She didn't truly know what would happen, and while that had frightened Freya at the time, it was the only choice she had.
"Look, the Originals are stronger than almost anyone. They're not that easy to kill. I'm going to head back to the plantation house tomorrow to talk to Klaus. I'm going to find out exactly what he's planning and what it has to do with that young witch. Nothing else happens until then.
Freya stood up and quickly paid for her drink before heading out of the bar. She'd learned all she needed to. Her siblings were staying at the old plantation house. She knew exactly where that was. She was going to see for herself if they had her daughter.

Kol headed towards the door go get some blood. He passed Elijah on the way. "I'll be back. I'm getting a bite to eat."
Elijah sighed. "Can you not compel one of the staff? We need to keep a low profile, Kol."
"I like the hunt as well as the food. You know that," Kol said.
"Just don't kill anyone. Take what you need and compel them," Elijah said.
"Fine, ruin my fun," Kol said before opening the front door. When he did, he found another person on the other side, not just any other person though. He recognized her as someone he'd brought as his date to a party almost a century ago.
"Hello, Kol," she said.
"Hi, there, darling. The last hundred years have been kind to you, haven't they? You haven't aged a day. Now, how is that?" Kol asked.
Elijah appeared in the doorway. "What's going on?"
"Oh, this was my date our Christmas party right before you and Nik daggered me. Not sure how she's still alive," Kol said.
"I'd love to explain. May I come in?" Freya asked.
"Please," Elijah said as he held the door open for her. He didn't know who this woman was, but his interest was piqued, and he decided that it was definitely pertinent to learn what he could about her. "Keep in mind that we have children in this house. If I perceive a threat to them, I will take action."
"I'm relieved to hear that," Freya said before stepping inside.
"I am Elijah. May I ask your name?" Elijah asked.
Before Freya could answer, she heard voices.
"So, this one time, I snuck out and started exploring the city were staying in. I was gone for about two hours," Elena was telling Jeremy as they walked into the room. Her eyes were trained on her brother, so she didn't see who was in the room she'd just entered.
"Awesome. And you weren't even twelve at the time. That's pretty hard core for being that young. Did you get caught?" Jeremy asked.
"Of course, I got caught. It's called a locator spell. But I didn't think I'd get caught. I was young and stupid," Elena said.
"Young maybe, but not stupid," Freya said as she smiled at her little girl. She felt instant relief the second she saw her and knew that she was okay.
Elena turned and whipped her head around. She found herself looking into her mother's eyes for the first time in four years. She almost wondered if she was dreaming. It was a dream she'd had many times. "M…Mom?"
Freya grinned and opened up her arms. "Come here, baby."
Elena did not need to be told twice. She ran over and flew into her mother's waiting arms. She immediately started to cry tears of joy.
Freya held her daughter tightly. "I've got you, my girl. It's okay. Mom's here now. Everything will be okay."
"I missed you so much," Elena cried into her mother's arms.
"I missed you too, sweetheart," Freya said. It might have only seemed like days for her, but that didn't mean she didn't miss her daughter. She hated being apart from her, even if she spent most of that time asleep.
Elijah and Kol looked at the scene in shock. Neither had guessed that this was how they'd find Freya. That she would just show up at their door one night.
Soon, Finn, Klaus, and Rebekah came running into the room, having heard Elena call out for her mother. Finn looked at his sister longingly. She was finally home, and she looked much like he'd imagined. He'd missed her dearly.
"Please don't leave me again, Mom. Please!" Elena cried.
Freya started to pull away a bit. She took ahold of her daughter's shoulders to pull her away.
"No, please," Elena said, not ready to let go.
"Shh. It's okay. I just need you to look at me for a minute, okay?" Freya said. She pulled her daughter away until they were barely an arm's length apart. She kept ahold of one of her shoulders and used the other to lift her daughter's chin up, so that they were eye to eye. "I'm not going anywhere, Elena. I'm here. From now on, no matter what happens, we're going to deal with it together. I promise. You know that I keep my word, right?"
"Yes, Mom," Elena said before falling back into her mother's arms. She hugged her tightly. She doubted she would let go anytime soon.
