Sae's sudden call caught Makoto off guard, her sister generally didn't contact her much from work. The reason behind said call was similarly unexpected...

"You think President Okumura got a Calling Card?''

"It's only a hunch. I overheard you talking to his daughter on the phone before. You're friends, right?'' Makoto confirmed before the former continued. ''I was wondering if she noticed anything...if she ever told you anything strange. I've heard the situation at Okumura Foods is changing a great deal. Everything seems to be looking up for the employees but no one is sure what to make of this. I thought maybe if anyone would have noticed such a thing it'd be her.''

"Well...'' The brunette felt bad for lying to her but there was no way around this. ''...Haru told us a lot about her home situation. But there was nothing about that. Things were apparently pretty bad for the company...so maybe it didn't have to anything to do with the Phantom Thieves. Wouldn't it make sense for him to do something about the company? I mean from the sound of it, they were just going to crash and burn if things kept going at that rate. Besides, seeing how famous the Phantom Thieves are I don't think something like that could be kept quiet...at least for long.''

"I certainly won't argue there.'' Even she was shocked at how much the Thieves' reputation spread out recently. Defeating Medjed may have given them a boost in popularity...but something about it still seemed strange to her. It was...too sudden. ''Still...with that poll and all, I thought they'd target him for sure.''

Makoto pursed her lips, they weren't about fame! They wouldn't just target anyone all because the public wanted them to. That was just terrible. President Okumura's actions were what made them target him. ''Well, look at it this way-wouldn't it have been obvious if they did target anyone on that list? There would be more people who had a change of heart for one thing.''

"...That's about what Miura-san told me too.'' Sae remarked after a moment.

This made the latter pause ''You've seen him?'' Inspector Miura was an old friend of their father's. The two had always gotten along very well with him, he was practically family in all but blood but he'd been working on a case for the last couple of months abroad.

"He came back recently-but he's been asking about you. He mentioned a funny challenge you made with him a while back and how he thinks he beat it. Something about a Bunchimaru chain?''

Makoto couldn't help laugh a bit ''...Figures he remembered that-I swear he always has to have the last word. It's no big deal, Sis. I was mostly kidding with him after something Dad said...he took it too far.''

"That does sound like him.'' A hint of amusement was in Sae's tone.

Makoto made a mental note to see if she could get in touch with the man, knowing her sister was likely very busy so she wouldn't ask now ''Sis, are you...coming home?''

The hesitation was its own answer ''I'm sorry, I'm not sure...it depends. But either way, you shouldn't wait up for me.''

"Right...'' Despite that, she felt her heart sink. ''...well, I'll see you.''

Namine and Futaba were in the latter's room, alternating from playing games on Futaba's computer to Namine's laptop, the hacker having worked on a program that allowed her friend to play some of the games she'd chosen on the device.

Morgana was examining said game collection, idly taking time to read up about the games she had selected ''...Hmm, yeah I think I like the games Namine chose better. For one thing, this Final Fantasy series definitely seems interesting...''

"I still say you guys are missing out but hey, each their own and all that.'' Futaba shrugged.

"You sure focus on this open world stuff a lot-you can just go and do a whole bunch of it now.''

"Maybe but they're still a lot of fun!''

Namine turned as her phone beeped, her expression lighting up at the message ''Oh, Haru's saying she can't come to the Metaverse today either...but it's because her dad's making plans with her. She doesn't know what they are yet since he wants it to be a surprise but he promises it'd be nice for both of them.''

Futaba perked up ''Hey, good for her!''

"Yeah, this change of heart may have been chaotic but it definitely seems to be working out for the best.'' Morgana smiled.

They all know how much it meant for Haru-her chance to reconcile with him. Haru probably wouldn't even care much about the plans, the fact that Okumura just made the effort was plenty for her. ''I heard the chief talking this morning with some of his regulars-sounds like Okumura's definitely following up on his word. Things are definitely looking up for Okumura Foods, the situation's starting to improve for the employees. They're getting more pay and time off-someone even came to help at Big Bang Burger but I didn't get all the details there.''

"Haru said something about how some of the kitchen equipment is kinda shoddy in a few of the BBB branches.'' Futaba recalled. ''But hey, it's all working out for sure! That definitely explains some of the things I picked up over the internet lately though...a few think he had a change of heart but there's no proof. Too bad they'll never know, huh?''

The feline rolled his eyes as she snickered ''Don't gloat.''

Namine smiled ''Well, Haru and I agreed that you deserve a reward since your idea paid off so well. What do you want, Futaba?''

"...And that lead you to me?''

Takuto had certainly not expected Sae of all people to come to his office today. But it seemed she had been looking into the targets of the Phantom Thieves and those who had been connected to them. Hearing that Hakuba apparently not only wanted to apologize to him but even came clean about everything was a surprise. .

"Yes. I've heard quite a few people speak highly of you-including a number of Shujin students. Hakuba came clean...To be honest, I was surprised. Did he really try to kill you?''

"Apparently.'' His expression darkened for a moment. ''But I learned the truth from the Phan-Site-apparently they asked the admin to send me an email which explained everything.''

"...Why didn't you ever say anything?'' This had honestly been bothering Sae for a while. The people she and Akechi talked to on seperate intervals had one point of connection-not one of them went to the police-were they really believed to be that incompetent?

"What could I have said?'' He asked in return. ''I didn't even know who Hakuba before. All I got were warnings to just stay out of his way and keep my head down. Besides, I had too much on my plate to focus on finding out the truth. The ramifications of that night were too severe.''

That was understandable. Sae conceded, she'd heard enough about the incident to know he had to focus on getting back on his feet.

But then the rest of his words sank in ''Wait, you were warned? By who?''

"Just a few acquaintances-they wouldn't tell me much but they all agreed that it was best not to get in Hakuba's way.''

"Strange...'' She trailed off. ''...and you said the girl who posted Hakuba's name on the Phan Site was also harmed by his actions. She asked for a change of heart...did you?''

"Honestly, the idea didn't occur to me.'' Especially after what happened that day...

He hadn't intended to drag any of his patients into this talk but Sae caught him off guard when she mentioned the name and it slipped out. Everything she mentioned proved that Futaba right, Sae was thorough with her work.

"Now about your research...do you have any idea why Hakuba would want it?'' She asked.

"You're going to have to ask him, I'm afraid.'' All he knew was what the shadow mentioned. Which lead to that organization...He couldn't exactly bring that up now.

Sae pursed her lips as she made to continue but she guessed something about her expression gave her away ''You can just come out and say it, Nijima-san. You want to know about what I've learned of Cognitive Psience.''

"...Yes.'' She he couldn't help but wonder. Both people who looked into this field now lost their research under suspicious circumstances and she couldn't help but wonder why. The circumstances were far too suspicious to be a coincidence.

"I learned all what I could from whatever Dr. Isshiki could post on the internet. The rest of it are all theories...so there isn't much I can tell you. She never did have a chance to finish her work-I'd say she might have drawn the wrong sort of attention too.''

Sae arched an eye ''You are aware she committed suicide, yes?''

"I'm saying I don't believe it-I never have.'' Takuto was tempted to mention some of what Futaba told him but a warning pulse from Adam stilled his tongue. He quickly realized that given the girl's understandable bitterness towards Sae, it may not be such a good idea.

"I see...'' She crossed her arms. ''...have you ever had any patients who had been targeted by the Phantom Thieves?''

"You do realize I can't share information about my patients-confidentiality has to be taken into account after all.''

Well, she had expected something along those lines so she left it at that. Takuto's brow furrowed ''If I may, Nijima-san...'' She motioned him to go on. ''...it seems like you're just trying to blame the thieves for everything. They weren't even active two years ago-at least, it certainly didn't seem that way. Kobayakawa was so adamant about sticking up for Kamoshida that the students would likely have had to suffer much worse for him to finally be stopped. Kaneshiro blackmailed many of the students. The police knew of him but...People in such situations can't speak up and they're forced to suffer in silence-the Phantom thieves were the ones who saved them. They helped people where others couldn't. These are just examples of why I think they're making the best out of a bad situation.''

When he put it like that, Sae couldn't refute the reasoning. Still-it couldn't be that simple...could it?

Ryuji and Yusuke had finished some training at the Protein Lovers' gym, deciding to visit Takuto and see if he was up to joining them for lunch...

"Y'know, you were doin' pretty good back there. Especially with the weights...I never thought you could pull those up.'' Ryuji admitted.

"I'm surprised as well-perhaps my own work with art helped. I was quite used to lifting equipment often-especially easels and such to help during painting and such.''

The former arched an eye ''Oh, yeah? I guess that equipment does look heavy...''

Yusuke in turn couldn't help but remark on something he had picked up on lately ''You seem to be more motivated than ever, Ryuji.''

''That obvious, huh?'' He put his hands behind his head. ''I've been thinking...I know it'll be real tough after what Kamoshida did but I still don't want to give up on doing something with sports...I still love track and I can't just give it up...''

"That's excellent news!''

The reaction made him pause, averting his pleased gaze bashfully ''...I'm just talkin' big though-I don't have a clue how to make it happeen...''

"That doesn't matter. We all need to find our own paths-you have your drive and motivation. That will surely help you make it happen.'' Yusuke pointed out.

"Heh, guess you're right.'' The teen grinned. ''Well, let's...''

He paused as his eyes traveled up ahead, noticing Ann and Shiho near Takuto's office. Both girls seemed upset, something was very was standing far enough so they couldn't quite see his face but all three were standing before the stern Sae.

"Hey! What's going on?'' Ryuji called.

"Nothing important...I think Nijima-san was just leaving.'' Takuto's unusually sharp tone all but confirmed that this was a big fat lie.

Likewise unoconvinced, Yusuke turned to Shiho. The girl biting her lip ''We were just passing by after one of Ann's shoots and we saw them here. Nijima-san decided to question us about the Phantom Thieves and she doesn't like the fact that we don' want to talk about those times.''

"For a damn good reason.'' Ryuji's eyes narrowed Just look what Kamoshida put the girls through. ''You got no right to force them. Lay off, lady! The thieves are good people and all the police does is blame them for their own screw ups.''

Sae bristled ''If people had just come to the police, it wouldn't have been necessary. We would've ensured justice was served!''

Shiho scowled ''That's just it-they can't do something like that! The track's team old coach tried to speak up against Kamoshida in school but his life was ruined. We were abused and humiliated at every turn and the people we should've been able to count on did nothing to help. We were just his slaves-to toy with as he pleased. How would anyone in this situation be able to talk? Plus, Kobayakawa bribed people in the police to look away. The thieves saved us and so many people and nothing you say will change that.''

Ann wrapped an arm around her best friend ''Exactly. We met one of Madarame's victims-he tried to tell everyone about the student who committed suicide but Madarame almost ruined his life too! The police knew about Kaneshiro but what did they do? Nothing! Kaneshiro was exploiting and blackmailing teenagers-why should they put their loved ones at risk just for the sake of the law when it's already twisted?''

Sae had no way to respond to that, which frankly aggravated her all the more. Ryuji harrumphed ''Some prosecutor you are-you kept giving the Sakuras all that crap when your stupid plan would've ruined Futaba's life. Not that you'd care I'll bet...''

Still in a bad mood because of what Sae made her remember, Shiho added ''Yeah, it's people like you who helped ruin Namine's life.''

A scoff ''That was her own fault. She should've done what she was told-but she acted out so she got what she deserved.''

Well, if the listeners weren't upset before, they certainly were now. Ann couldn't believe this woman's nerve ''How could you...?!''

"Don't you dare insinuate such a thing!'' Yusuke's tone was ice cold ''I can't believe Makoto is related to someone so heartless. Namine lost everything because she wanted to do the right thing-because she cared enough. I won't let you demean that. We need more people like her, those who stand up for what is right and remain kind despite everything. You couldn't be half the person she is!''

Ann felt similarly ''Exactly. You have no right to judge Namine, you don't know anything.''

"Yeah! You talk about justice but it sounds like your justice is just as twisted as what we've seen before. You're terrible!'' Shiho snapped.

"Totally. You're prolly not all that good at your job either. Even Akechi knew something was off about Namine's case and he barely had a chance to look up the info.'' Ryuji pointedly ignored her ire at beingcompared to the detective.

Takuto's stern gaze remained. ''What was done to Namine-chan is cruelty of the highest order. The fact that you would condone it is nothing short is despicable. Now remember, you're still in my office, Nijima-san, so I'll have to ask you to leave.''

Sae gave them one last dark look before walking away with her head high.

The ensuing silence was broken by Ryuji, who let out a laugh ''Yusuke, buddy, that was epic!''

"That's for sure-way to show her.'' Ann agreed, her lips twitching.

"Ah, thank you. It simply felt like I had to say something. I must admit, given what Makoto mentioned about her-that was...disappointing.''

She grunted ''Tell me about it-I came this close to smacking her...'' The girl steadied her bag. ''...come on, Shiho! Just as well we're going now, I need this visit more than ever!''

"We had our plans set before...it's one of our usual hangouts.'' Shiho offered for their benefit.

Ryuji quirked a brow ''...Lemme guess, something to do with sweets?''

He took the girl's laugh as confirmation, snorting ''Somethings never change...''

Likewise, Yusuke was amused but not at all surprised. Ann may have stopped eating many sweets like she used to but her sweet tooth was still there.

"Anyway, how about we go grab lunch? I'm thinking ramen! You wanna come, doc?'' Ryuji wanted to know.

Takuto chuckled ''Sure, that sounds nice.''

The next day, at Leblanc...

"Wait! He cancelled his plans after all?!''

Haru smiled at the indignant Futaba ''It couldn't be helped-that meeting just came out of nowhere...''

A huff ''Oh, come on...''

"You seem cheerful though, was yesterday good?'' Morgana inquired.

The heiress nodded happily ''Mother died when I was young but Father wanted to show me some of the places she loved here. The places she would've wanted to show me herself. We've seen a couple of stores and he was going to take me to one of her favorite restaurants before his assistant told him about the meeting. It was all right though-we talked like we haven't for years. He even apologized to me about Sugimura and he said nothing of the sort would happen again.''

''That's great to hear.''

Haru beamed at Namine ''I expected he'd be busy with all the changes he wanted to implement in the company anyway. I appreciate that he went through the trouble. We can't go back to the way we were but I think that's all right. There's no reason we can't start over.'' She lay a hand on her chest ''I'm just so happy he really is going back to the way he used to be...more happy than I can say in words...''

"You deserve that chance, Haru.'' Namine cut in.

Morgana nodded ''Now you just have to make the most of it.''

"I will!''

Sojiro came out of the kitchen ''You sure sound lively...so what's Futaba squwaking about now?''

"Hey! What's that mean?''

"Well, it's just that you were the loudest one-I almost thought Sakamoto was here actually.'' His lips twitching while Morgana snickered.

"Meanie! That's just going too far!''

The others watched them bicker with growing amusement, Futaba pouting ''And I wouldn't talk-you and Namine's Grandpa sure were way worse just last night! We could hear you over in my room!''

Sojiro's eyes narrowed a bit ''Oi, that's...!''

''Not so good when it's you, huh?''

Haru looked curious ''Nami-chan, were Boss and your grandfather fighting?''

"Oh, it's no big deal...at least judging by Grandma's reaction.'' The girl offered. ''I don't know what happened exactly but after they called yesterday. They wanted to talk to Boss and we were with Futaba-next thing we know, they're going at each other's throats.''

"It was pretty weird.'' Morgana piped up. ''It doesn't sound like anything happened though. Yuri-san took the phone and she said to ignore them and that they're being ridiculous.''

''Grandma's exact words were 'Let's give the two children a time-out.'' Haru couldn't help giggling at this, Namine smirking. ''I think it's mostly Grandpa's fault anyway-he just has to mess around with people...''

Sojiro's expression made it clear that he couldn't agree more. Haru laughed a bit ''Your grandparents sound delightful. They're coming in a few weeks, right?''

"Yup! They're awesome, you've gotta meet them.'' Futaba grinned.

They looked over as the cafe door opened and a man with black hair and dark green eyes walked in, looking around with interest before paying attention to Sojiro as he welcomed him.

"I heard about this place...never thought I'd find something like it around these parts.'' He mused. ''Oh, I'll have the house blend, please.''

"Coming right up.'' Sojiro went to prepare the order

The man took a seat, looking at the girls ''...Curry and coffee don't seem like they would go together but he sure seems to make it work.''

"Definitely.'' Namine agreed, Haru nodding. ''We've tried them in other places but no one makes them as good as Boss.''

"Oh? That's quite the endorsement...'' The man's smile grew ''...but it does match with what I've heard. Speaking of which-I'm guessing you're Hyakuya Namine?'' The puzzled girl nodded ''Ah, my name's Miura Taiki. Goro told me a lot about you...''

That made Namine remember something ''Wait, Akechi-kun did mention an inspector who showed him the ropes. That was you?''

Haru was intrigued ''Why did you help him?''

"...Yeah, I always got the feeling that the police didn't like Akechi.'' Futaba couldn't help but add. While she still felt nervous speaking up, her friends were here and the man had an amicable air to him.

"Well, I can't say you're wrong and he really wasn't helping himself at first. I guess I just started talking to him out of curiosity...''

He stopped when Sojiro came back with his coffee. The man proceeded to taste, his expression lighting up ''This is just about the best coffee I've had in months. You, my friend, are a master of your craft.''

The barista couldn't help smirking ''Well, I'm glad to please. I've gotta say, you have me curious. This is the first I hear about Akechi of all people having a mentor.''

A chuckle ''That's because calling me a mentor is a bit of a stretch. I tried to give him some advice here and there, there was more to him than it appeared. Figured it was only right to let the kid know he could have some back up. I made quite a few screw ups back when I first started on the force and I was lucky enough to have some good people help me get back on my feet. Like old man Nijima...he was one heck of a dependable guy.'' He took another sip ''Anyway, just thought the kid could use a little help. I had to remind him to drop the pompous act around me plenty...''

''So even you couldn't avoid that, huh?'' Namine mused.

''He was actually worse before, if you believe that.'' Oh, she believed it all right. ''But yeah, that got on my nerves plenty of times. And now I hear all about how this good friend who never hesitates to speak her mind with him, apparently, knocked some sense into him too. It's actually helped give a wider perspective and helped remind him of some of his goals back when he first started.''

The girl's expression made it clear that she hadn't expected she had such an effect on the teen ''What do you mean?''

"Well, Goro told me this story. Around three years ago, he was at his lowest point. But a friend really came through for him back then-meeting that person really helped him not just re-establish some of his values but it ensured he could move forward. He could see some hope again thanks to them. It actually made him more sure than ever that he wanted to be a detective.'' Taiki explained.

"That sounds like quite a good friend but who was it?'' Haru wanted to know.

"I don't know. He never gave me a name and I never got around to asking for any details. But I know he's planning on going to see that friend when he feels the time is right. I'm glad-he seems so wrapped up in work sometimes that he misses out on a lot. After all, friends like that are rare. A friend you can rely on is someone you definitely want to keep on your side.''

The listeners couldn't agree more.

"And he specifically asked for me?'' Yusuke clarified as he, Ann and Namine arrived at the police station.

Akechi had been approached by someone looking for a chance to get in touch with the blue haired artist and so the three gathered to find out what was going on. It didn't take them long to spot the detective near the building's entrance. Surprisingly enough, he was with two people they hadn't seen in a long while, Nakanohara and Cadet Maehara. They knew the former took to spending time with Yusuke. Given their first meeting with Maehara, they had cerainly not expected him.

Akechi and Nakanohara greeted the three while the third nodded. ''I apologize for calling you out like that but they really want to talk to you, Kitagawa-kun.''

"Hey, Yusuke.'' Nakanohara smiled. ''I mostly came to make sure a certain someone doesn't mess things up this time.''

''What do you mean?''

"You know how some of us have been reconnecting with each other? Well, it took a while getting through to this bonehead. Akechi-kun just managed to convince him not to destroy the paintings Madarame took from him...and I'm pretty sure that's mostly because his brother hid them.'' Nakanohara added.

Ann's brow furrowed ''...You were going to go that far?''

"...Back then, yeah.'' Maehara admitted. ''I put my heart and soul in them so knowing Madarame stole them was burning me up. I really did mean to cut art and anything related to it from my life for good...but I guess it wasn't going to work. Those guys were pretty persistent...''

"Oh, yes-how dare we be concerned about you?'' Nakanohara snorted.

"ANYWAY, I heard what you kids were actually up to after that bastard confessed...'' The latter continued. ''...what with helping the police give the paintings back and all. That was pretty cool.''

"Well, it felt like we had to try...'' Namine exchanged a look with her friends. ''...we know there was no chance to return all of them but every little bit helps.''

"Yeah, especially seeing how much they mean to you guys. It's only right.'' Ann added.

Satisfied, the man looked at Yusuke ''You found some damn good friends there.'' His lips twiched as the teen agreed. ''So look-Natsu and the others explained everything and...uh, sorry about the way my top off back there.''

''What? You shouldn't...''

But Maehara held up a hand ''I think I should. I get it, really...my brother's been the only family I could really count on for years. The others...they didn't like that I wanted to be an artist at all but he stood up for me. Let's just say the blow out from what the bastard did was bad. And he came through for me again-I wouldn't be here without him. But yeah, that's why-even if I don't like it, I get why you stuck up for the bastard. If anyone was badmouthing my brother, I'd defend him. For all intents and purposes, he was the closest thing you ever got to a dad, right?''

"Yes.'' Yusuke averted his gaze ''While I appreciate this, I don't think I deserve it. I understand how you felt-if I had spoken up sooner...''

"Seriously, don't worry about it. It's water under the bridge now.''

"Thank you...'' He exhaled. ''...I had my suspicions all along but I looked away. It's only thanks to the Phantom Thieves that I could face the truth.''

"We owe them a lot.'' Nakanohara stated. ''For more reasons than one...''

"You got that right.'' Their fellow ex-pupil agreed. ''They saved the day. I didn't think I would at first but...I've come to like them.''

"You sure you should be admitting that?'' Ann smiled teasingly. He was in the police after all...

But the man merely smirked ''I won't tell if you don't. Problem, Mr Detective?"

A chuckle "Not a one."

Everyone went on their way, Yusuke joining Nakanohara and Maehara at their request. Namine and Akechi went to Seaside Park...

"So that's what it's like...''

Namine blinked as the brunet walked past ''Wait, you've never been here before?''

"Never.'' He affirmed. ''I kept meaning to come but one thing happened after the other and I hardly ever found the time...''

"Was there any reason you wanted to?''

"Curiosity, I suppose. I told you once about Miura-san, the inspector who helped me settled down at work when first started...'' He started.

"Yup, we met him actually. He was really nice.'' The girl stopped to tell him about the man's visit.

His lips quirked ''That sounds like him. He told me about his own very first case. Apparently, it happened right here. Everything I heard about that had me intrigued.''

"I get that...you wanted to where he first started back when he was in your shoes, huh?'' The girl guessed.

"Basically, yes. I've wanted to join law enforcement for some time-I knew they wouldn't take me seriously but I decided to try in the end. It's true that I wanted to become a detective to punish evil-doers but...after sometime, I remembered more of my reasons. That I wanted do the right thing, eventually I wound up really liking what I do.''

"Really? Things do pan out in all sorts of ways,'' Namine remarked.

"Agreed. While what you said about fame before surprised me, I can certainly understand where you coming from now...''

Namine bit he rlip ''The public's still giving you a hard time over the Phantom Thieves thing, huh?''

"Mm, but in a way I do understand, they've made quite a difference. And...I see why you believe in them too. Which reminds me...'' A pause ''...I really wanted to thank you, you've helped me when you had no reason to and I wouldn't blame you if you resent those involved in law enforcement given your experiences. You've been coping remarkably well, all things considered.''

"I'm glad you think so but it's nothing so special. Honestly, you haven't seen me back when this first started...I'm not over it yet but I'm figuring things out. I know I don't regret my choice that night. What came of it really did just make me mad at the people in charge but that's it. I know there's people who've been through experiences worse than mine...and with the help I've come to have, I've decided to live to the best of my ability.'' Namine admitted.

"Just the fact that you've come to that conclusion proves how wise you are. It's amazing.''

"Thanks...well, awkward first impressions aside, we are friends.'' Both shared a smile ''Well, that's that. You're doing what you love and that's great, Akechi-kun, I'm not about to resent you or anyone else for it. Even when I mess up, I think...so long as I can try to get up and keep going, it'll be fine. That's all there is to it.''

"Things like that are a lot better than one might think, I stand by my words.''

"Well, you can look at it this way, we're both expanding our horizons. I don't know if I would've come to this conclusion if things were any different and you said your own experiences changed your view of your work as a detective.''

Akechi appeared thoughtful ''That's a good point. I suppose it does apply here...'' He began to smile. ''...as always, talking to you is refreshing. It reminds me that I need to try and keep an open mind.''

"Almost there!'' Haru led their way towards Ogikubo.

The amused girl followed, both having gotten together after she left the park. ''Someone's excited.''

"Ryuji kept talking about this place so I find myself curious. Is their ramen really that good?''

"Well...check it out.'' Namine gestured at the stall once they were in eyesight.

Haru's eyes widened at the number of people around it. ''Oh, my...''

"That really speaks for itself, huh?''

''Yes...And that smell...it's amazing. Let's go!''

After waiting for their turns, the girls were finally able to grab some seats...

"It looks delicious.'' Haru took her chopsticks ''There really was quite a line-is it usually like this, Nami-chan?''

The girl nodded, she had visited the place a number of times with some of her other friends so it didn't surprise her. ''The food is worth the wait though, try it.''

Haru's face lit up ''Oh, you're right! This is excellent. Even taking big bites feels good...hmm, I wonder if this is some sort of marketing strategy. A big line would draw one's attention and I know I feel like joining a line when I see it. Stimulating their customers' senses is a good idea as well...''

It was then that she registered Namine's curious look. ''..ah, sorry! I was just thinking-seeing how hard many people around me are working leaves me motivated. Like how you're trying to learn more about music and make the most of that. Ann's working hard at being a model, Yusuke's passion about art and now Father's working so hard to make Okumura Foods the best it can be. He's just starting out but you can really tell the difference, the employees are already so happy. I was wondering what I could do to help him. Maybe if I could try thinking like a business owner...''

Namine smiled ''Well, it sounds like you're off to a good start. You just have to keep at it.''

"Right!''

A short while later, the two joined their friends and they headed to Destiny Land as they agreed before. As they shared stories with each other, Ryuji and Ann told the group about the recent encounter with Sae...

Futaba didn't care much for the prosecutor but she tried to hold her tongue given that she was Makoto's sister. But now? Not happening. ''That jerk! I'm so gonna her send phone a virus or something. Never mind that, I might as well doxx her!''

Makoto's gaze lowered as Namine and Takuto tried to calm the girl down ''I'm sorry...''

"Don't apologize for things that aren't your fault.'' Their leader returned.

"Exactly. You're hardly any more responsible for her mistakes than I was for Father's.'' Haru added.

Takuto decided to change the subject ''I have to admit, the highlight of the whole thing was Yusuke's words''

"Yeah, I'm sorry I missed it. That sounded great.'' Morgana remarked.

"Thanks, by the way.'' Namine told the artist.

"No need-I only said what I felt was necessary...'' He trailed off as they arrived.

"Here!'' Futaba placed a band with fake bear ears on Ann's head.

"Hehe, they're kinda cute...'' She trailed off.

The first proceeded to pick up another one and pass it to Namine, who frowned a bit ''Uh, let's just not go there. I hate that color.''

Ann grimaced, seeing that the band was a bright shade of orange ''Yeah, can't say I blame you.''

"Hey, what's wrong with orange?'' Futaba huffed, offended. Her hair was orange after all.

"On you, it looks cute. That just looks lousy.'' The model stated.

"But hey, since we're all here...'' Namine picked up on a bad with white cat ears.

"...Okay, I think I see your point.'' Futaba had to admit, that looked better.

Makoto made a face "Are you really doing this? It just seems chidlish.''

"Come on-we're just having some fun!'' The younger girl snatched another band, setting it on her head, to the brunette's annoyance.

Haru grabbed a pink band ''We don't all have to do it, Futaba-chan.''

"Aw, but that's no fun!''

Makoto sighed ''It couldn't hurt...''

"That's the spirit!'' Ann patted her shoulder.

"Enjoying the view, boys?''

Ryuji and Yusuke jumped, turning back to the sniggering Morgana. Takuto smothered his smile, having them keeping track of the girls. Or rather, two, in particular...

"Psh, I dunno what you're talkin' about.'' He huffed.

"Sure you don't.'' Morgana drawled. ''Well, the girls look like they're having fun and they always look good. And you obviously agree...''

"Well, at least one of you can be honest.'' Takuto remarked.

"Don't you even start, doc. We heard you talking to your girl, remember? You guys were getting lovey-dovey real fast...'' Ryuji thought back to their visit to Ogikubo the day before, the doctor looking away bashfully.

Ann's voice reached their ears ''Well, it sounds sweet to me. Rumi-san seems like a great person from what he's mentioned. You're both new to the city, Takuto-sensei. How about you bring here for a date sometime?''

''That's a good idea...''

Shortly after arriving in the house of mirrors, Ryuji paused as he realized that the group he had come with was gone. He turned as a short figure with a strange looking mask appeared behind him, trying for a scary growl.

After a moment, he just laughed. The short stature and orange hair telling him all he needed to know. ''What the heck was that, Futaba?''

The hacker huffed, her attempt at payback for him scaring her and Ann earlier foiled. And she was so sure it'd work too...

Her feelings would quickly be appeased given what happened in moments.

The next thing both knew, everything seemed to have gone dark for a moment. Futaba noticed a pair of figures drawing closer to Ryuji but he remained oblivious and so never saw it coming.

A low, haunting cry made him jump before he slowly turned around. The boy couldn't help but cry out in shock as a pair of figures with colorful, if somewhat intimidating masks appeared behind him. The sight made him stumble and almost fall to his knees. ''Gaaah!''

The sound of laughter made him pause, bringing his attention to Ann near the entrance, the girl was doubled over as she cackled ''That was so worth it!''

''What?!''

Futaba was snickering as they saw the figures remove their masks, revealing themselves to be Namine and Yusuke. ''Nice work.''

"Seriously, guys?'' The teen huffed, pulling himself back up.

"I couldn't resist.'' Namine's cheeky smile made him doubt the sincerity of that apology. ''You only have yourself to blame anyway.'''

"Indeed, that was rather tactless back there.'' Yusuke concurred.

"...Where the heck did you find those weird masks, Futaba?'' The athlete couldn't help but ask after a moment.

"I was wondering too-I don't think I've seen anything like this...'' Ann added.

"Oh, they're in this small shop that has a whole bunch of alien stuff. It's pretty neat!''

"How the hell are you so happy with those things?'' Ann's expression made it clear that she agreed completely with him.

"You guys have no taste.'' The hacker returned.

The two shared dry looks before Ann spoke ''That's the kind of taste we can do with out.''

"You said it.''

Later, after they had dinner...

Haru smiled ''I thought if we were going to dine together, it would be better to do it somewhere with a view.''

"The VIP life is incredible!'' Ann beamed ''Not that I'd expect anything from a private rental!''

"Yes, but I'm still surprised that it's only us here...'' Makoto knew the circumstances but never in her life would she have imagined this possible.

Futaba was lapping it up ''We are the rulers of the kingdom of dreams!''

"It's beautiful...'' Yusuke smiled.

"It's not as beautiful as you...''' Futaba said in a somewhat different voice.

Takuto looked amused at the tone. "Where'd that come from?''

"Well, that's the kinda stuff couples say, right?''

''Sounds about right.''

"Ooh, you should totally get that girlfriend you mentioned before here!'' She suggested.

"C'mon, you guys're gettin' way too excited about this stuff.'' Ryuji grinned.

Namine raised an eye ''Oh and you aren't?''

Ann knew they were thinking along the same lines, their eyes focused on the fake ears he wore ''Yeah, like you're not tapping into you inner child too, Ryuji?''

"This is just 'cause Futaba kept naggin' me to put 'em on!''

"I did not!'' The girl retorted.

Ryuji looked like he was about to argue but Morgana spoke up ''Ryuji's like a big kid anyway so it's probably nothing for him.''

"Shut up, cat!'' The former only snickered.

"You're sure getting along better lately.'' Makoto remarked. ''I suppose it is true that fighting brings you closer. Though the location does help...''

"My, this is so heartwarming...!'' Yusuke exclaimed.

"Honestly, I would've liked to see the parade as well.'' Haru admitted. ''But given how sudden the request was, they couldn't get enough staff together to do it.''

"Hey, this is still pretty great. Thanks a bunch.'' Namine put in brightly.

Makoto nodded ''Perhaps that should just wait until next time.''

"Either way, this party's totally the best one so far! It's freakin' amazing!'' Ryuji laughed.

Haru smiled ''I'm glad to see you're enjoying it.''

"Be careful, Haru. You've shown those guys what luxury means.'' Morgana stated. ''This will really raise the bar for our next celebration party.''

Yusuke wondered why the feline was excluding himself there "You're already talking about our next party? Don't you think that's somewhat premature?''

''I wonder...'' Haru bit her lip "...A part of me is afraid even when everything is going so well...''

"You worry too much.'' Morgana waved off.

"...I must be overly cautious because of my circumstances up till recently. I'm sorry for bringing it up.''

"Well given our recent close call it's hard to blame you.'' Takuto stated.

"Yeah, just what the hell was that anyway? There's no way those two things were normal shadows...'' Ryuji crossed his arms. That mess in the Palace really was way too close for comfort.

Futaba nodded ''They're really, really strong...They set you guys to face the Reasper and then they somehow made that fake Mona. I never even knew Shadows could do that...''

"They're definitely no ordinary shadows...'' Makoto's brow furrowed ''And there's what they said too...they know another Wild Card.''

"That's been bothering me as well. To think after all this time, we never encountered this person. I can't help but wonder who they could be.'' Yusuke mused.

"Right, you said people like Namine-chan are rare...'' Takuto mused.

Morgana nodded ''Super rare-wild cards are the tricksters who are spoken of in myths. It actually makes me wonder if this other wild card is even in the city-who knows where they could be now...''

"That's a good point. Given how much to know about the other world, that person could be anywhere.''

"One thing's for sure. There's much, much more to the Metaverse than we ever realized.'' Yusuke concluded.

Makoto nodded ''I remember Morgana mentioning that the distortions grow stronger the deeper we dive in Mementos. What if the source of all this is down at the end?''

"Circe and Pluto even mentioned a master...now that I think back, that fake said something similar.'' Namine chalked this up as another reason they needed to keep going ''It sounds like someone even stronger is behind all this. It might even be related to the source of all the distortions.''

Morgana's eyes widened ''I never thought of it like that...the distortions really did get stronger when that monster showed up and they gave off a similarly nasty feeling...You might really be on the right track.''

"We already made up our minds to get to the bottom of Mementos, this just makes it all the more important.'' Everyone nodded to Namine.

They would see this through to the end.

Well, let's stop here.

I haven't been able to get my head into writing for a while-I changed my plans a few times before I could accept this was done. Well, I wanted to give Okumura a chance to really make amends. And he's going all out-he even took the time out he had to spend time with Haru, he really feels horrible for what happened to her. Oh and since he promised them before, there won't be a press conference here. He's just going to keep his quiet and deal with the Organization as little as possible. Oh, Rumi, Itsuki and Yuri are going to be coming eventually...

I realized I just left the whole thing with the paintings up in the air. They know there's no way to fix all the damage Madarame caused but they're doing what they can. First it was the Phantom Thieves, but then the police and Madarame's students took over the situation. I figured maybe I could have another good guy in the police and someone who would try to get to know Akechi a little so there's Taiki. Sae and Makoto's dad was a great, dependable figure to him and he wants to be the same for others. He cares for the girls a lot but as you're going to see soon, he's not happy at all with the way Sae's doing things. I have plans for her, which are especially going to be important in this arc. I like her in general, but things were definitely going to get worse with her before they get better.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!
