Vangran: Thanks, glad you like it. I don't think Sae's a bad person-she messed up a lot yeah but she's just too...cynical. For lack of a better word. Bottom line is, she's not like the other Rulers so I wanted to show that. I thought about doing a new Arcana for a while and it's a relief to find a good one. I've been wanting to try the idea with Miwa since I started Takemi's confidant and I'm happy with the result.

Sojiro raised an eye as a disgruntled Futaba came down from the attack, followed by Namine and Morgana. ''So what's eating you all of a sudden?''

"Makoto's sis is a big jerk.'' She proceeded to tell him about Izou and the way he cornered Makoto in the train station. They hadn't known how Sae felt about any of this so Namine decided to try asking Akechi, thinking that he might have some idea as her partner. And he did.

The teen happened to overhear Miura talking to the prosecutor about the situation, he hadn't caught all the talk but Miura's angry tone alerted to something amiss. As he found out from the man shortly afterwards, Sae simply brushed it all off. She didn't care about any of what went down, simply deciding that she did her job and what happened afterwards meant nothing to her. She considered Izou a fool with misplaced aggression and if he caused anymore trouble, she'd make him answer for it.

Sojiro frowned ''I get where you're coming from, she's out of line. There isn't much that can be done for them but she should at least lay off the guy, he just lost one of the people who helped raise him.''

"Exactly!'' Futaba threw up her hands. ''He could've hurt Makoto back there but she just cares about her stupid work, that's just heartless.''

Namine knew the girl had yet to forgive Sae for threatening them, which was understandable. The thought of Futaba going back to her horrible relatives made her want to throw up. Sae was really going too far. They knew Makoto cared for her a great deal, it was why they didn't want to drag the girl in this any further. She'd felt bad enough about the mess in August as it were. But none of them would ever hold it against her, it was just like with Haru and Yusuke, Sae's sins weren't Makoto's to bear.

"...Futaba, can you help me try to find his grave?'' The three looked at her in surprise. ''I just think it's sad. A whole lot of people died in that incident but the people are treating like it's a good thing-even if they're criminals, that doesn't mean they deserve to die. We can't do anything for Izou-san but I thought...maybe if I could just visit his grave, I'd bring some flowers. I mean it just seems like the right thing to do.''

It was so cruel that the prisoners all had to die because of that terrible organization. She didn't see how she could find all their graves but she wanted to do something for them, this was the best she could think of.

Morgana perked up while Sojiro smiled ''That's really sweet of you, Namine.''

"Yeah, I'll get right on it!'' Futaba assured.

A short while later, Ryuji and Ann came to Leblanc per Yusuke's request, the artist wishing to talk to all of them.

"My apologies for calling you all here like this.'' The artist started as they took seats at a table in Leblanc. Neither Futaba or Takuto had responded to his message so he assumed they were too busy but he'd only been able to talk to Makoto for a bit. ''I would've loved to talk to Haru and Makoto as well...''

"Yeah, they've started studying up for the entrance exams together.'' Ann informed. ''They're aiming for great marks so they want to prepare. Haru said to tell you they're sorry but to ask if you need help with something.''

The artist almost smiled ''Ah, I wouldn't want to disturb them this was quite the opportunity. Boss was even kind enough to serve us coffee before he went shopping. Now then, I have a vital request.''

"Hit me with your best shot! All the tough problems are gonna have to go to Namine though.'' Ryuji returned, leaving Yusuke confused.

Morgana gave him an odd look ''He wouldn't call you guys here like this for school stuff.''

The boy blinked, acknowledging the point. Yusuke was actually quite a good student and he maintained good standards of school work.

Ann hummed ''Actually, I was wondering-I know you've been hanging out with Namine a bunch and looking for inspiration. How's that working out?''

Namine bit her lip, not the least bit surprised when Yusuke's expression darkened ''That's exactly the problem, Ann. As you know, I planned to display my work in the foundation's contest. I'm having quite a bit of trouble determining what my next subject should be. I have given this painting a fair amount of thought but nothing has come to me yet. Namine has been incredibly patient and kind but I failed even with her support. Hence, I was hoping to hear your opinions on an ideal subject.''

"How 'bout you have Ann or Namine strip?'' Ryuji suggested. Namine only gave him a look, refusing to dignify that with a response.

Ann smacked the boy's arm ''How long are you gonna keep bringing that up?!''

''Are we making jokes on this now? I know it was my idea but it's still tasteless, Ryuji.'' Yusuke put in. ''And I would like to apologize for that again, girls, when I think of the situation and what I did...''

''You apologized enough.'' The model reminded kindly, he had in fact approached her and Namine seperately a few months ago. While they didn't hold it against him, the gesture was appreciated all the same.

''Good going.'' Morgana nodded ''Anyway, you've looked up a bunch of subjects recently so maybe you'd have a broader perpsective-how about you try painting something people would pretty?''

"Hm, so in the end...we return to the subject of beauty...'' Yusuke mused. ''...Namine, what subject do you think would most capture beauty?''

"Hmm...that's hard to say. But if someone tells you their answer, it wouldn't be as satisfying as you making your own choice, right?''

"Y'know, she's got a point. Isn't that why you kept trying to find inspiration all along?'' Ryuji added, Ann nodding along to this.

"...I didn't think of it like that, you're right...''

Ann bit her lip as he sighed "Sorry, we know it's not the answer you wanted.''

"It's quite all right. The fault lies with me after all. Why can I not paint a beauty as pure as the Sayuri? Where have all my studies gone?''

''Yeah, about that...'' Ann had meant to bring this up before but this was a good opportunity ''...you always call the Sayuri a pure beauty but I never understood what you meant. I mean, it's absolutely beaitufl but-well, this is coming from someone with absolutely no art experience but it's always seemed far more gentle to me.''

"I know what you mean.'' Namine offered. ''Especially when we saw the complete painting the first time...I just get this warm sense of love and tenderness.''

"Me too! I honestly almost cried when I first saw it. It felt kinda like I was a baby in my mother's arms again. She was watching over me, telling me everything was gonna be OK. That was the gentleness that painting made me feel.'' The model closed her eyes with a smile.

"Gentleness...?'' Yusuke echoed, stunned. ''That is yet another aspect the Sayuri captured that I cannot. Is my heart too cloudy?''

"It ain't cloudy. You said a whole bunch of times art makes people feel different stuff, right? So the girls just pick up on something you missed.'' Ryuji reminded.

''That's nsightful, Ryuji.'' Morgana nodded, impressed ''But I agree. We kinda seem to be getting off topic, Yusuke. What're you getting at?''

''I...i don't know how to proceed! Painting used to be all my heart desired but now I've become overwhelmed with a need to prove myself to Kawanabe and the world. I condemnded Madarame for obsessing over fame and wealth but I fear I'm taking a similar direction. I may see things more clearly not but there are stimes where I still regret turning down Kawanabe's offer...I believed myself to be passionate but desire continues to cloud my heart...''

''What're you on about?'' Ryuji frowned ''You're already showing passion right now.''

''If anything, I think going to the dorm was good for you because now you see how limited your world really was. Now you see things for what they are.'' Ann added.

''Sounds about right, things may be hard but this could be a good opportunity for you to grow as an artist and a person. You already changed this much.'' Morgana reminded.

''I...have?''

Nodding, Namine put in her piece ''Actually, I meant to ask before, what's wrong with wanting praise for your work? You put in so much effort and even after all what happened, your passion for art is so strong. Sure others are in it for the money but that's how they are. Everyone's got their own perspective. Yours is just growing as you learn more about the world.''

"Yeah, dude, ain't nothing wrong about doin' your best to make a livin'.'' Ryuji stated.

"Yup, like Namine says, you're showing loads of passion right now. We all want to do great at what we love and hear people's praise.'' Ann added.

"But...how can passion be born from those negative thoughts?''

''You're overthinking this.'' Ryuji waved a dismissive hand ''Why does it matter where passion came from? Like take me, I had this fantasy back on my track days about winning and getting everyone to loko up to me. But even then...I was trying' to help my team out. Sure it's a solo sport, but nobody's gonna run 'til they puke if they don't got teammates they wanna inspire. I guess what I really wanna say is, you gotta do stuff for people beyond yourself if you wanna succeed.''

"Hm...is that how it is? So the sincere gentleness held within the Sayuri? The warmth of the heart...It was all for the sake of those who gaze upon it...How interesting.'' He suddenly stood, confusing them. ''Ah, I see!''

"What do you see?'' Ann wondered.

"I have been a fool! Beauty is not the superficial thing I have long thought it to be! It is something that well up within in the heart until it breaks free. It is a gift, given by a subject unto its viewer. Yes, I finally see the truth. The four of you have my sincerest gratitude! You have been a truly tremendous aid! The time has come for my brush to meet canvas in beautiful harmony! I know just what I have to do!'' Yusuke hurried out.

Ryuji wasn't quite sure what happened "Looks like he figured something out, huh?''

"Yeah, he looked pretty inspired. I think he'll be'll be fine...'' Ann trailed off.

Namine could vaguely hear the two talk as she followed Yusuke outside Leblanc ''Yusuke? One thing.'' He looked curious. ''What you said before? You didn't fail-you'd only fail if you give up. I had fun on those visits you know. If they helped you, all the more better.''

The artist chuckled ''I'm truly glad to hear you say that. Your support has been most invaluable to me. I quite enjoyed those times myself and I hope you'd be open to more of them in the future.''

"Count on it.''

Namine blinked as her phone beeped, checking it for messages. A laugh escaped her before she held it up to Yusuke. It was a text from Futaba, teasing Yusuke for overthinking things but also glad to hear he got his head on straight again. She's also made a point of demanding to see his new painting before he presented it for the contest.

"...Just how much of that did she hear?'' Yusuke couldn't help but ask.

Namine half-smiled ''Well, it's Futaba so...''

" Indeed.'' That said a lot on its own. ''Well, at any rate, I'd best be off.'' Namine waved as he bid her farewell before going back into the cafe.

It wasn't long before she spotted an exasperated Morgana walking away from their two blond friends, climbing up to her shoulder. She gave him a puzzled look but the cat only pointed at Ryuji and Ann, who were too busy arguing to pay attention to anything else. ''Ah...''Shaking her head, the girl headed to the kitchen. ''...sometimes they're like an old couple. How about we let them get it out of their systems and get lunch ready?''

"Sounds like a plan!'' Morgana beamed.

When Namine arrived at Untouchable, the first thing she heard was an intimidating voice...

"Your store is impressive as always. Great stuff, Iwai!''

"It's nice to hear that comin' from you, Tsuda-san.''

"I bet you could start a war with realistic models like these. Seriously, these are incredible. I should get going now though.'' A burly man in a suit came around, pausing when he saw Namine. ''Hm?''

Iwai kept his face blank ''Welcome.''

Thinking her to be another customer, Tsuda turned back to him ''All right, Iwai, I'll take one of everything you showed me today. I'll need an entire arsenal. How long would that take?''

"Depends on how quick the parts come in. Some stuff's prolly gonna have to go through customs...How long things get stuck there's totally outta my control though...''

Tsuda hummed ''Tell me, Mune...What's your son's name? Kaoru-kun, was it?''

Iwai seemed to tense ''That's right.''

"Well then...if you don't deliever on time. I might just have to let Kaoru-kun in on your little secret.''

Iwai closed his eyes ''Tsuda-san, please...''

"I wonder, how will adolescent boy like him react to finding out his father was in the yakuza...? I guess if things go sour, we could always try to sell him again.''

It took a lot from Namine not react outwardly. What on earth...Sell him AGAIN?

"Fine...I'll put a rush on your order. Happy now?''

Tsuda nodded ''Very much so. Well then, I look forward to hearing from you again...soon.'' He glanced at Namine. ''Sorry to make you wait, kid.''

"...God dammit!''

"...That's the guy you mentioned before? What's his deal?'' Namine frowned, glancing at Tsuda's retreating figure outside.

He sighed, looking at her then ''Sorry you had to see that. Anyways, how'd it go today? You learn about anything good?''

She nodded. Iwai had sent her a text earlier, asking her to meet an old contact who'd have some information he needed so she came to tell him everything.

Iwai crossed his arms as she finished ''Huh, so someone made a big deal with the Hong Kong mafia worth 100 million yen...And it happens around New Year...Wouldn't surprise me if Tsuda had something' to do with it.''

"Maybe that's why he was so pushy?''

"My thoughts exactly. I hear he's been bragging' all about over about a big score he made right near the start of the year. I've gotta do more research into it myself.'' Iwai seemed satisfied. ''Anyways, nice job. I'm gonna be able to give Tsuda a real scare thank to the info you gave me.''

"Good.'' Namine thought the man had it coming. She guessed her expression gave her away for Iwai gave her an amused look. ''Give it your best shot.''

He nodded ''That goes without sayin'. Man, I can't wait to see the look on Tsuda's face. It's been ages since I've felt this excited. And it's all 'cause of you, kid. You're pretty useful. Well, I'm gonna head home early and spend some ol' quality time with Kaoru to celebrate. Damn fine job again, kid.''

The girl smiled ''Thanks, have fun, Iwai-san.''

He waved a hand, cracking a smirk ''Heh, get on outta here.''

The following day...

The team had agreed to go to Mementos today but there was a little time before everyone got together so Namine decided to pass it with a little walk. She could hear a few people talking here and there, a smile grew on her face as she realized that some were discussing Yoshida. They liked how much he had improved and now looked forward to his speeches. It looked like he was getting quite a number of voters, they all liked that he cared enough to want to make a difference.

The girl was delighted to hear that, that people were finally seeing the passionate politician for who he really was. Namine quickly sent a text to the man, wondering how he fared today.

It was just as she about to turn the corner that she spotted a pair of familiar figures in the opposite directions, Miura and Akechi. The first quickly noticed her as well, offering a wave before bringing the latter's attention to her. Namine walked over to the two, greeting them. ''So, what're you both up to? Another case?''

Miura laughed ''Hardly-I'm trying to get Goro here away from work. Gods above, I swear, it's like he's never done enough.''

"Hey, an ally! I've been saying that forever!''

Akechi rolled his eyes good naturedly at the two as they high-fived one another ''Yes, yes, heavens know you go on about that enough.''

"Well, if you're going to complain, don't give us fuel to work with.'' Miura smirked.

"Or you could, you know, actually listen to us.'' Namine added.

"Even better.'' The former nodded.

"Oh, no-there's two of them...'' But despite his disgruntled tone, he couldn't fight back his smile as the two laughed.

"Well, as they say the more the merrier. How about you come along, kiddo?'' Miura suggested.

The three went walked shortly around the area, ending near the ramen shop which Namine visited with Ryuji every now and then...

"Huh, so you know this place too?'' Miura smiled as they took their seats. ''Old Man Nijima used to bring me here a bunch. I think I wound up liking ramen because of him.''

"You know, I've been hearing a few stories-what was he like?'' Namine wanted to know.

"In a word, determined. The man set a goal and pursued it with all he had, he'd give everything he had. He could've actually been promoted earlier but he suspected some sleazy deals so he passed. He wouldn't ever cut corners, nope. He wanted to be the best policeman he could be but he'd do it on his own merit.''

Namine blinked ''That sounds a lot like...''

"Like Little Mako? Yeah, I think she's got the best of his qualities.''

"I still can't believe she's okay with that name.''

The man laughed ''Oh, she definitely wasn't. She just knows I won't have it any other way.''

"Why am I not surprised?'' Akechi chuckled. ''I don't blame Nijima-san for giving up. You're even worse than a dog with a bone sometimes, so stubborn only idiots would try to dissuade you from your path.''

Namine looked from Miura to the boy and back ''Did he just try to make a joke?''

"Yeah, it's a bit of an uncommon thing. He's finally loosening up, thanks to yours truly.'' He gave a mock bow as she applauded him lightly.

Akechi threw them an exasperated look ''Honestly...it's almost frightening how well you two get along.''

Namine giggled while Miura snorted ''Okay, how about we get off Goro's back for now? I think he's had enough teasing.''

"He makes it so easy though!''

Miura chuckled ''That's for sure.''

"If you two are just about done...'' The detective gave them a dry look, satisfied when they nodded. ''...Namine-san brings up an interesting point. I've been wondering for some time now but what would Officer Nijima have made of the Phantom Thieves?''

Miura thought that over ''Hmm...he'd be rooting for them but he'd hate that they're necessary. That's about how I feel. Let's face it, things would've been worse without them. They target those who made others suffer and would've been untouchable by the law. I like them just for that. Things aren't always black and white, criminals or not, they did a lot of good. I heard about some of their targets...'' He grimaced for a moment. ''...if it were up to me, I'd throw the bastards in jail. Way I see it, they're bringing unseen evils in society to light. That's an important step to changing things for the better. Old Man Nijima always stood up against corruption, even if it was in the police force. As much as we believe in the law, it's not infallible. He taught me that.''

Namine liked that he was keeping an open mind about this. Most of the police just wrote them off as criminals so it was nice to hear someone who understood so much. They didn't want to hurt anybody, they just didn't want to turn away from something they knew is wrong. She often wished that they could do things differently but it didn't seem possible.

Besides, who else was going to stop the organization and the Black Mask? They hurt more than enough people already.

"I see...'' Akechi appeared pensive. ''...it's just...I tried asking Sae-san before and...''

"Let me guess, she nearly bit your head off?'' The inspector expected his confirmation ''I don't know what's going on with her. I was gone for a while but I can't believe how much she's changed.'' Namine and Akechi shared glances, thinking that over. ''Speaking of the girls though, I've been hearing a lot about you from Little Mako-thanks for having back when she needed it.''

"Aw, it's nothing to be thanked for. She deserved it.'' Namine smiled. ''Those who didn't even try getting to know her missed out, Makoto's a great friend.''

Miura chuckled ''...You're a real good kid, Namine-chan.''

Nothing much happened in their excursion to Mementos, they just handled another target before deciding to see if they could find the area where that spirit was. Strangely enough, it looked like another tunnel in Mementos, no sign of anything happening around there.

The surprise came after they left...

'Hm, how curious...'

Namine started at the voice, blinking when an ethereal white vaguely feminine figure appeared beside her. It looked a bit more blurry but there was no denying it was the mysterious spirit from the other day.

She didn't miss her friends staring on in shock ''Ah, guys...?''

"We see her too.'' Makoto looked bewildered. This had never happened before-they could interact with their Personas but none of them could ever manifest in the real world! ''How...how are you doing this?!''

'I'm just as surprised as you are.' The spirit returned. 'I was wondering I could speak with Namine and the next thing I know, I'm here.'

"What the hell kind of Persona is she?'' Ryuji hissed, wide-eyed.

'It seems she still remembers nothing,' He blinked at Arsene's words. 'We had to explain quite a few things to her but she seems to mean no harm. She's a truly unique sort. Though I'm sure I don't need to tell you, mon coeur.'

Namine nodded, knowing that well. The gentleman thief had begun to address her as that recently but it was something to get used to. Shaking the idle thought, she addressed the spirit ''So...ah, what do we call you?''

'Hm...perhaps you could make a choice. What would you prefer?'

The group considered that, Ryuji speaking up after a few moment ''How about-Flora? I remember seeing some flowers just before we left that tunnel.''

"Flowers? In Mementos?'' Futaba gave him an odd look.

"Weird, right? They appeared right after Namine freed her but they faded so fast that I was sure I imagined it.'' Ryuji looked at the spirit. ''How about it?''

She hummed 'That sounds nice. Then I shall be Flora.'

"Right. Are you, ah, feeling any better?'' Namine asked.

"Quite. Thank you, it feels like I'm beginning to regain my strength. I expect it'd be a while yet, however. I can't imagine what those two Shadows wanted from me. I don't even remember what I look like.'

"Really weird...say, how about I try scanning her the next time we go to the Metaverse? We might learn something new.'' Futaba remarked.

"It's worth a try. Um, what do you think?'' Haru asked.

'If you think it could help, I'm certainly willing to try. This world seems so...vibrant! It's truly different from the other side, is it not?'

The girl looked amused ''Absolutely. You're going to be with us from now on, I expect you're going to be learning a lot.''

''That's for sure.'' Namine added.

A laugh 'I like forward to it.'

The group went to the karaoke per Futaba's request, simply wanting to take it easy for now.

"I like how we're taking this so easily.'' Morgana remarked.

"Well, walking away from Mementos with questions is nothing new.'' Ann pointed out. ''I don't know about you but sometimes it just seems like the more we learn, the more confusing it gets.''

"Agreed, I'm resigned to that at this point.'' Yusuke chimed in, earning a nod of agreement from Haru.

Takuto on the other hand seemed to thrive with the mystery, clearly raring to learn more. He continued to pick up all he could about the Metaverse, they pegged it as a researcher's curiosity. The spirit had retreated once they headed off, thought they could hear her speak to Namine as the girl patiently explained about their surroundings every now and then.

"Why did Futaba want to come all of a sudden anyway?'' Ann asked.

Ryuji snorted ''Something about one of her games, I heard her mention some sorta gift before. No idea what that's about. Anywho, you guys up for a dare? Let's see how we do on stage.''

"No.''

"No way!''

"Forget it.''

"Absolutely.''

Futaba snickered ''A four hit combo!''

Morgana rolled his eyes at the blond ''Get real, Ryuji. It'd be a no contest. You and Futaba are tone-deaf and we all know it. Namine would blow everyone out of the water. No offense, Lady Ann.''

"You said it, Mona.'' The girl smiled at their leader. ''How about you sing then? We could use something good after this long day.''

She laughed a bit ''Sure thing.''

Takuto and Flora were undeniably impressed with the girl, leaving her embarrassed with their praise. It wasn't long before they were found by Hijiri, who was pleasantly surprised to see them again.

"So you work here now?'' Makoto clarified.

"Yup, I help run the karaoke. Someone's gotta keep an eye on the idiot.'' Hijiri smiled and they didn't miss the affection in her tone despite the insult.

Ann began to smile ''So who's the lucky guy?''

Her reddening face spoke volumes ''Not you too! Like our friends haven't been on my case enough about this!''

Makoto held back a smile while she giggled ''I'm sure you give them plenty of reason, Matsuoka-san!''

She gave them the evil eye ''Moving on...'' She looked at the amused Namine. ''...I was wondering, did you ever think of making a CD, kiddo? You'd make a mint!''

"You think so? It never crossed my mind...''

"Word of advice, just think it over. I think it's a crime not to share talent like that...'' Hijiri started.

"Oh, you don't know the half of it. She's great with some instruments too!'' Ryuji put in.

Hijiri's smile widened ''Even better! Seriously, we can get in touch with some music companies, I'm sure we can find you a deal!''

''You'd do that?''

"Absolutely, my friend's coming to know some big names. I like to think we can make a difference for people who really want it.'' Hijiri gave Namine a card. ''Here's my number, give me a call when you decide, yeah?''

The girl nodded after a moment, thanking her. Hijiri smiled and waved as she left. Ann gave her a quick hug ''Now that's what I'm talking about! I knew someone would recognize your talent for what it is!''

Namine laughed a bit ''Let's not get ahead of ourselves...it's really good of her to offer...''

"It's great news, Nami-chan!'' Haru beamed.

"Don't you want to do it?'' Morgana added.

"Why don't you let her think it over for now? While we agree that Namine will do wonderfully, this did come out of the blue.'' She gave Takuto a grateful look to which he nodded with a smile.

The girl glanced back at the card before beginning to smile. The surprises just kept coming lately. She definitely didn't expect this...she really wanted to talk to Fujitaka and Asuka now.

She found herself wondering what Sojiro and her grandparents would think...

And that's that!

I'm still leading things to the palace but it won't be too long. I want to get certain events in place first. Like I said, I don't think Sae is a bad person but it's not easy to show her in a good light for now. Namine's trying but she knows neither she nor Futaba are impartial, there's more to this than it seems.

Sorry if I forgot to mention the flowers before, they were there because of Flora. They just faded fast because she was so weak. She can't even manifest her full form neither or in Mementos. Her situation is complicated but you'll see more down the line.

The banter with Miura and Namine came to me when I was writing the chapter and I couldn't resist adding it. Miura pursues justice and he knows that despite what they seem, the phantom thieves have done a lot of good and that shouldn't be ignored. He doesn't like that the police couldn't help but he's not about to just call them bad guys either.

Hijiri's offer is an idea I've been thinking about for a while and it gives more room to have fun so I'm going for it.

Welp, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!
