Vangran: Thanks, glad you loved it. Yeah, it always bugged me that they never actually explained anything about Jose. I'm still on the fence about using him in this story. If I do, he's going to show up in the third semester. One thing's for sure, he's going to have something of a recurring role in the sequel. But the flowers aren't related to Jose, they came to be because of Flora. I think Sae's situation is complicated, she's not really a bad person, just misguided and I wanted to show that. I intend to let a few things play out before leading to her Palace.

Gotham317: Well, like I said there's a couple of events I want to make happen before getting anywhere on that front. It's not a bad idea but I'm not sure if I can apply it to Yusuke, he hasn't exactly come to see Namine like that yet.

Iwai's most recent text was certainly unxpected, asking Namine to show around popular places for kids her age. But she was happy to do it too, for the reason behind this was something she was quite glad to support...

"Well, whaddya know...'' Iwai looked around the Planetarium ''...kids really like this sort of thing, huh?''

"Yeah, loads of people do.'' Namine returned.

"Huh, I wonder what Kaoru thinks...''

The girl smiled, Iwai was usually so gruff and focued on his business that this was really good. Especially when she remembered her recent talk with Kaoru ''Aww, that's nice. You are a doting dad after all.''

"Shut up, kid. It's no big deal.'' He grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Well, I'd beg to differ. It doesn't have to be some big gesture. I bet knowing you just want to spend time with him would cheer him up.''

"Don't exaggerate.''

"I'm not-you know he's worried. And yeah, you told him not to but it doesn't work like that. There's a lot I don't know about the situation but you could always just try to explain yourself.'' She didn't miss his eyes flickering down for a moment, his expression tipping her off. ''...Ah, complicated territory?''

"Somethin' like that.'' Iwai nodded, the two continued walking. ''...It really is full of young people, plenty of couples. This is no place for an old man like me to be with a girl like you.''

"You're not that old, Iwai-san. For all we know, they'd probably think you're my uncle or something.''

He chuckled ''Can't argue with that...Speaking of, what do you think a father is?'' The girl wondered where that came from ''I've never had someone like that growing up so I'm sort of sailing blind here. But I still want to do what's right by Kaoru...''

"Well, you're trying, that's worth plenty. Kaoru-kun's a good guy, I say you did plenty for him.''

"I wonder...'' Iwai shook his head. ''...guess it's strange for me to discuss this with you.''

"Not really. I'd say it just shows you care. You want to come with him soon?''

"I'm thinking it.'' He admitted. ''Though I'll probably need some time to prepare...'' Iwai gave her a scrutinizing look. ''...so how come you just avoided that last one anyway?''

"Well, it's just...I wouldn't know either. I just think a father is someone who would appreciate and be there for their kids in the best way they can.'' Namine had immediately thought of Itsuki, who had always had her back over the years. To her, that was what a good father should be like.

"But...?'' He prompted, knowing there was more to this.

"But I haven't exactly spoken to mine ever since I was brought here. He's awfully convinced that I've turned out to be some criminal.''

"Even after all you've pulled, considering what happened two years ago?''

"That's actually...'' Namine blinked, did he just say...?

And it turned out he had ''I couldn't figure out why your name sounded familiar at first. But yeah I heard plenty about that through a couple of my contacts. After a story like that, the name kind of stuck with me.''

What were the odds? She really wasn't sure what to say.

"Small world, huh?'' Iwai nodded. ''Anyway, it just means your old man's a blind idiot. I've dealt with my fair share of criminals and you don't even come close. Then again, no wonder you handled what I had you do that well. You got some serious guts, kid.''

She began to smile, thanking him. The two were distracted as the screening started. Iwai let out a low whistle. ''...Damn, that's pretty impressive...''

Namine leaned back ''It never gets old...''

'And people use that to...?'

"Yup.''

Flora hummed 'Fascinating.'

"You've been saying that about nearly everything I showed you today.'' Namine reminded. Teaching Flora about the world was certainly an experience, her genuine enthusiasm to learn more was endearing and the two were getting along well.

'I cannot help it, this world is truly fascinating. It actually makes me wonder how the humans of such a lively place are the cause of why Mementos is in this terrible state.'

Namine hadn't looked at it that way before but she could see Flora's point. The dark and dreary realm couldn't be more different from this one. As it was an embodiment of the Collective Unconscious, so humans really could be the reason it was this way. Put like that, it was actually sad...

Flora's voice reminded her that they arrived at Leblanc and indeed, the cafe was right to their left. It wasn't long before they were found by Morgana, who had been sitting languidly outside the cafe. ''There you are, Futaba's been raring to go.''

"That's good...'' Namine picked the cat up and walked in, waving at Sojiro as he welcomed her back. ''...ahhh, I should've known.''

Futaba's attention was on the TV displaying a Featherman episode. The episode was apparently ending and there was an offer of new merchandise advertised by a pretty woman in a pink Featherman costume. Right, Pink Argus was played by Takeba Yukari, who was also a skilled model on the side. She still remembered Futaba's reaction when it turned out Ann was familiar with Takeba-san's work as a model but not her acting. Then it turned into a discussion that somehow revealed Ann watched the shows in which Risette performed but nothing of Takeba-san's work. That had not been fun...

One thing was for sure, Futaba took her Featherman trivia way too seriously.

"Come to think of it, that was one of the models Ann learned about when she started reinventing herself, right?'' Morgana mused.

Namine nodded, Ann eventually chose to learn what she could about modeling and use it to better herself. ''Ann told me she liked how Takeba-san seems to be giving it her all and she wanted to use that as an example. I know how that feels.''

"Yeah, passionate people like that can be inspiring.'' Morgana returned. ''That being said, I still don't understand why Futaba went off on us like that...''

"Futaba's mind works in strange and mysterious, Mona. I don't think we're meant to understand.''

The cat was about to voice his agreement when the girl in question joined them ''Hey, how long were you even there? You didn't forget why we were supposed to meet up, right?''

"Ease up, Futaba, we all know there's no getting between you and Featherman stuff.'' Namine nodded to Sojiro while Morgana snickered. Futaba puffed out her cheeks in annoyance, making him chuckle. ''So what're you up to anyway? You never said.''

"It's time to fulfill another goal on my promise list. The next one would be...'' Futaba paused for dramatic effect. ''...learning about my generation!''

Sojiro exchanged a puzzled look with Namine, both wondering how this one would work. It seemed a little too broad of a goal for the list...

"I've got it figured out-I'll have conversations with people my own age!'' Futaba put in brightly.

"Don't Namine and the others count though?'' Morgana wondered.

"It's got to be someone new. Now where would I find lots of young people...?'' Her eyes lit up as an answer came to mind. ''By Jove, I think I've got it! Let us be off, Namine!''

The girl blinked ''Sure but where are we going?''

"You'll see!''

Sojiro smiled ''Wow, you girls sure get along. That's good to see though. Anyway, be careful out there.''

"We will!'' His daughter returned, taking Namine's hand and leading her out.

"So we've arrived at the diner. I've heard all about the unlimited fountain drinks at these places...'' Futaba paused. ''...Well? Where are they? I don't see 'em anywhere!''

"Unlimited drinks?'' Morgana blinked

''Are you sure that wasn't some rumor? It sounds really way too convenient.'' The girl looked dismayed at Namine's words, knowing that was true.

"Namine-san?'' Yuuki walked over.

Futaba blinked as the other girl greeted him ''Is that a friend of yours?''

Namine raised an eye, wondering if she forgot already ''Yuuki's in my and Ann's class.''

The boy huffed ''I went to the arcade with you guys just a few days ago, you know.''

"She probably blanked out everything that didn't have to do with the games.'' Namine put in drolly. Morgana could definitely believe that, Futaba had basically hightailed back home soon afterwards. All she'd say was that she wanted to apply some ideas she got from the experience.

Futaba quickly confirmed that ''Aw, you know me so well!'' The three sweatdropped at the jovial answer. ''Oh hey, wasn't he with you guys back in Hawaii? I saw him on the video.''

"What?'' Mishima blinked. ''Oh, yeah-they did talk about a genius friend before...''

"That's Futaba.'' Namine affirmed.

The girl perked up "Ah, how about I ask him to help my promise?''

He looked puzzled ''...You just want to have a regular old conversation?''

"It's complicated but yes.''

Yuuki concluded this had to do with her phobia so he nodded ''Sure thing, what did you want to talk about?''

"Oohh, you're so nice!'' Futaba perked up. ''Let's start from the basics. My name's Sakura Futaba and don't you forget it!''

"Ah, right...I'm Mishima Yuuki, but people calls me Mishima...''

Futaba was pleased ''It seems like help always comes my way when I need it most. My luck stat must be really high...'' She beamed ''...I could prolly roll a natural twenty right now if you asked me to!''

"So you want to learn more about our generation? I doubt it'll be easy to explain...'' Yuuki started.

"Youth...the unknown frontier...'' Futaba uttered.

"Then just start with something simple.'' Namine put in. ''You guys have some common interests anyway. You're both really good with computers and video games, Futaba actually likes mixing up things from a bunch of different games...not sure if I'm describing it right but I think it's called modding?''

Yuuki perked up ''Yeah, that's it! You're into modding?''

"Are you kidding? It's a blast!'' Futaba was just an enthusiastic. ''I've been doing it for years and I'm really good at it now. The arcade stuff is retro but it gave me a bunch of cool ideas...''

Namine looked amused as the two quickly fell into a chat over video games. She recognized a number of the names but they quickly delved into some apparently obscure titles, if Yuuki's words were anything to go by.

Well, Futaba's plan was definitely working so far...

"So we're both always online?'' The girl hummed.

"Yeah! What sites do you use? I usually keep to forums myself...Or are you more into streaming? I'd gladly subscribe to your channel.'' He began grinning. ''W-w-wait, do you by any chance run one of those...racy channels? You'd need to be super courageous to do that, though it certainly wouldn't be unwelcome...kek.''

"Whoa, that the first time I've heard anyone say that out loud...kek.'' Futaba stated.

"I really don't think you should focus on that...'' Namine deadpanned. ''...I have to say, no wonder you went with Ryuji's idea back then, Yuuki. I'm getting a much better image of your tastes now.''

"W-what?! Wait, you've got the wrong idea!'' Morgana and Futaba laughed as the boy spluttered. Noticing Namine's clear amusement made the boy cotton on to her teasing ''...Namine-san, that was mean.''

She giggled ''Sorry, couldn't resist. But you did set yourself up for that...''

"Ah, I've got it!'' Futaba spoke with the tone of someone having a great realization ''This overwhelmingly forgettable appearance, generic speech style, and total lack of sex appeal. Nishima, are you an NPC?!''

The boy's eyes went wide ''What?!''

Namine blinked twice, while Morgana cocked his head ''Ah, what?''

The first looked at her ''An NPC?''

"Yup, a non-player character!'' Futaba replied.

That wasn't quite what she meant but she decided against explaining ''...Futaba, that was just savage.''

The other girl was insistent ''Well, it'd be worse if we lie about it! Besides, NPCs are an important piece in the jigsaw puzzle of gaming!''

"That's just making it worse!'' Mishima complained. ''And more importantly, my name isn't Nishima...!''

But Futaba wasn't listening ''Anyway, I'm glad you spawned here! I killed two promises with Nishima today! I think I gained a ton of EXP on this adventure! And it's all 'cause you brought me here, Namine, thanks!''

''Sure...''

"S-sooo, um...Futaba-chan, it's okay if I call you that right? I'm a little embarrassed, hahaha.'' Mishima started. ''Anyway, what're you doing after this?''

"Going home.''

"A-ah...right...'' He managed awkwardly.

Namine half-smiled ''Ah, sorry, Yuuki, she's just messing around with you. Things are kind of busy. We never did explain-we'll tell you more about the situation another time.''

"Oh...'' The boy had to admit he was rather curious. ''...yeah, sure thing!''

"They're making a brand new Featherman game which focuses on Pink Argus!'' Futaba was telling her friends happily. ''Pink Argus was such a big hit with people that they wanted to see her take center stage. It's going to be so cool!''

"I thought the leader was Red Hawk, how is that going to work out?'' Morgana wondered.

"No clue but that makes me more excited, I so wanna find out!''

"You get way too worked up over Featherman.''

"Like I said the other day, you guys just don't get it.'' The hacker huffed. ''I bet you'd be the same if Ann was involved and that Namine would totally want a game with Risette!''

The other girl rolled her eyes as Morgana squwaked in protest. Namine did actually understand Futaba's admiration because she was a big fan of Risette's music, especially after her come back. But still...no, just no. ''Whatever makes you sleep at night, Futaba.''

"Actually, that reminds me-now that you're practicing music again, do you want to keep it up? Like maybe become a musician in the future?'' Morgana wanted to know.

"Oh, yeah! There's what Hijiri said too-you want to make the CD? I bet it'll sell like crazy.'' Futaba added.

"I don't know about that...'' She laughed a bit. ''... but it's a possibility...'' The girl was distracted as some passerby greeted her, leaving her to return the gesture.

Futaba looked on curiously ''What's up with that?''

"Oh, I remember these guys from Yoshida's speeches.'' Morgana commented. ''His reputation is getting better and better and Namine's been helping him this whole time, after all.''

Namine joined them ''Sorry...what's up, Futaba?''

The orange haired girl was squinting at a familiar figure who was walking towards them. ''Isn't that Akechi's teacher?''

It was indeed Miura. The usually jovial man seemed to be in a pensive mood. Frustration was evident in his eyes as he ran a hand through his hair, stopping as he noticed them. ''Hey, you three-keeping busy?''

"Hi, Miura-san...'' Futaba stepped closer to Namine but waved at the man, who gave her a small smile. She was actually coming to like Miura, old habits just died hard. ''...looks like you are too. Tough case?''

"...In a manner of speaking.'' It was actually about Sae but he wasn't sure he wanted to bring this up given what he came to learn of her recent actions. ''Anyway, sounds like you're popular around here, Namine-chan. I hear you were brilliant-my friend can't stop singing your praises since you became his assistant.''

She looked curious ''You know Yoshida-san?''

"Yeah, met him right around the time I was assigned that case over in Kyoto. The old tiger messed up a bunch but he's trying to make up for that big time and I hated how people wouldn't let the past go.''

''That's how I felt-they kept holding his old mistakes over his head. It was annoying, like none of them ever messed up before?''

Miura liked this girl more and more by the minute. ''Exactly! So, he did say something about teaching you in return-considering a career in politics?''

Namine proceeded to explain the situation and he nodded in understanding ''Yeah, I heard your story from Little Mako. Your life was basically upended in the matter of months, being uncertain about the future is totally understandable.''

Futaba hadn't considered that. Namine always seemed strong and confident so she never imagined the other girl had such concerns. However, as Necronomicon was quick to remind her, this made far too much sense.

"Yeah, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. You know, make the most of my opportunities. Yoshida-san downplays it a lot but he really knows politics well.''

"Oh, please try to make sure he understands that. Assuming you haven't done so, heavens know I've been trying.'' Miura droned, his lips twitching at the girls' amused expressions. ''So, if politics is one option did you have any others?''

"Well, there is music-I've been thinking about maybe becoming a pro like I did when I was a kid.'' Namine's expression turned bitter for a moment. ''Even though a part of me thinks it might just be wishful thinking-not sure what I can do with that record.''

Miura wanted to argue but he knew she wasn't wrong. Futaba and Morgana vowed then and there that they would make Shido hurt even more than they already planned for what he did to her. The fact that Namine had been the one against revenge partly for their sakes only reinforced the sentiment.

''Now don't go writing anything off just yet.'' Miura chided lightly. ''I think you had the right idea before-learning all you can sounds like a good way to start. But it's a big decision; you don't rush stuff like that. Believe me, I know-you won't belief how confused I was before I joined the police force. I bet not having answers is hard and even frustrating but nothing worth doing is ever easy.''

Blinking, the girl wondered if tshe may have been overthinking this...she was plenty better off now than she had been a few months ago. She'd learned a lot and grew stronger because of it-maybe she was still lost but it wasn't as bad as she thought it was...

Arsene chuckled 'Very good, mon coeur. Much progress has been made, isn't that enough?'

She almost smiled, thanking him and Miura. The man didn't think it was much to be thanked for. Heck, if her circumstances were any different, he might have recommended the police force as an option. Her good heart and sense of justice remained strong despite her experiences and he had seen older cop with far less scruples. As it were, the idea felt far too tactless. Glad to see her expression brightening up, he added ''There, that's better. Don't give up. You'll find your answers and no petty, drunk assholes can get in the way.''

Namine couldn't stop the laugh that escaped her ''I'll keep that in mind.''

I am thou, thouart I

Thou hast become a new vow

It shall become the wings of rebellion

That breaketh the chains of captivity

With the birth of the Apostle Arcana

I have obtained the winds of blessing that shall lead to freedom and a new power...

The following day...

Sae exhaled in annoyance. She hadn't wanted to believe Akechi but he had been right, it seemed very few were allowed to see Kamoshida, Kaneshiro and Madarame. Her entire plan had been to get their perspective after their hearts were changed. The names she picked off the Phan Site were one thing but with she couldn't help wondering if any of the three would've been different. There had to be a reason the Phantom Thieves dealt with them so differently. When she thought about it, those three had the far worst crimes compared to the people she spoke with. Could that be related to why they were given calling cards when others hadn't? Trouble was, she just kept getting more and more questions but she was being blockaded at every turn. For the life of her she couldn't understand why...

Her superiors claimed it was because the men were dangerous and they wouldn't want her harmed but she knew that was a big fat lie. As much as she hated this, there wasn't much she could do about it.

Perhaps she could try a different source of information. Maybe someone affiliated with the media could help?

Morgana grimaced as he glanced at the phone screen ''So it really did come to this, huh?''

Namine bit her lip, they were to go to Mementos today. A couple of requests had been particularly worrying. One was a person asking for help for a depressed friend and the other asked to target Izou Kyoji. If possible, they'd like to get through to the Shadows without fighting but Morgana had a feeling it wouldn't be that simple.

They had their suspicions about Kyoji ever since Yuuki told them that he'd been the one to forward a request to change Sae's heart. It hadn't been too hard to know it was him, since they knew the situation; certain bits of the request gave it away. No one blamed the man for his anger. He was grieving and while Sae may not be responsible for his brother's death, she still handled it in the worst way possible.

Everything Morgana heard about Sae was really making him consider targeting her. He just wasn't sure when he should brring this up with the team...

Things really had been getting tenser since the prison incident. A lot of people were still torn about the Phantom Thieves, all of them having bought into Shido's drivel. Now they looked forward to seeing the Phantom Thieves getting arrested and hoped that this would put everything at an end.

"...It's just like you told us before, the public really is fickle.'' Morgana recalled why their leader didn't care one bit for their reputation. ''Even after all we've done, even when we're still trying to help them-they still turned on us just like that. You were right to ignore all the fame, it really isn't worth it.''

"For what it's worth, I hoped I'd be wrong.'' For their sakes if nothing else. Namine had already been in such a situation before-and that was by people she trusted. It had been an absolutely horrible feeling and she loathed thinking about those days. But it was why this didn't faze her anywhere near as much-she hoped her friends wouldn't take it too badly.

It was almost time for the school festival, the date was a little over a week from today. She didn't know if Shujin's festival would be any good but maybe they could use the opportunity to have some fun and de-stress...and that line of thought quickly made her remember something else...

'Would it really be so bad if you perform at the event?' Flora piped up.

Morgana blinked ''Perform? Oh, you're thinking about Haru's idea?''

"Mm, I almost forgot with all that's happened...'' The girl wasn't sure what she wanted to do. Makoto pointed out that it could be like a test of sorts for her, since she hadn't really performed for a crowd in years. It was true, a part of her was nervous. Sure, she sang in front of her friends at the karaoke but that was different. Should she do it?

A few months ago, her answer would've been a definite no. But now...she was like Yusuke in that music made her feel great just like art did for him. Especially now that she could play and sing like she used to.

'Now, now, mon coeur. The real question is-would you regret not taking the opportunity in the future?' Arsene queried.

Her eyes widened a bit, realizing the valid point. Would she...?

Sage, Panther and Noir were too busy to join them today but the team's numbers were still enough to handle their goal for the day...

"Oh, that's good.'' Queen smiled once Mona brought them up to speed about the talk. ''Take your time, Joker, the offer's still there.''

The girl gave a small smile and Mona hummed ''Actually, I was wondering-how would you go about setting it up so she can perform? You told us about the events but none of them included music.''

"I have my ways.''

Oracle wasn't sure this was a good idea. One reason being..."Isn't Joker's rep in that school still lousy? Why do you want her to perform?''

"In some ways, yes.'' The black clad girl returned. ''But there are a good number of people who see past the rumors-in fact, most don't even mention them anymore.'' She smiled as Joker looked at her ''I know you hardly pay attention to that but it's true, you actually have people who look up to you. Akari-chan's just one of them. And if what Panther mentioned is anything to by, I think you have a few admirers who are likely just too nervous to speak up.''

"Wait, for real?'' Skull grinned. ''I mean, I totally get it-took people long enough to see how awesome our leader is. Really, Queen-you gotta give us some details!''

"I'm afraid you should ask Panther-she wasn't exactly clear with me. I did get the impression she was looking into it herself though...''

Joker was about to speak but all three were distracted when Oracle called out a warning, spotting enemies just ahead.

Mona destransformed just after they rammed one of the enemies, swiftly using Mercurius' magic to conjure rushing galees that pushed the nearby Shadows back. One of them was weak to wind magic so Mona capitalized on the chance to shoot it down, Fox swiftly drew his katana to strike a Rakshasha that flew above the feline. A pair of Power Shadows flew, light gathering around them. Joker quickly fired two crisscrossing curse blasts with Arsene's help, leaving both dazed. Fox's katana glowed ice blue as he struck, freezing one Shadow for a moment before he quickly finished them off, looking back at his friends to see Queen and Skull standing back to back.

"You ready, Champ-senpai?'' Skull held back a wince as she elbowed him.

"I told you not to call me that. Now come on!'' The two ran at the enemies from opposite sides before striking. Skull's club sparked with lightning as he slammed the ground, the force of the move nearly throwing those nearby back. At the same time, Queen kicked an enemy right into another, leaving both dazed and taking them out with Freidyne.

"Whoa, guys-you got to duplicate Joker's trick after all!'' Mona noted.

Fox chuckled ''It was merely an attempt. Skull was rather interested so Queen gave us an idea of how it could work. We simply applied her theory.''

"As expected of Queen.'' Joker remarked.

"Oh, stop...'' The latter returned, amused. ''...you're the one who made this even possible. Now, shall we be on our way?''

They soon reached the first target, Mizuhara Yui, a downtrodden middle aged woman. The sight was a strong reminder of Hijiri and Hisashi, a truly defeated person who had no idea what to do with themselves...

"Good riddance, they said-it's a relief...'' She hadn't even noticed them arrive ''...I just don't understand-how can people be so cruel? Why...why did it have to be him...?''

''W-what do you mean?'' Oracle clarified, startled.

he woman looked up ''Wh-who...no, that doesn't matter. If you're the Phantom Thieves then killing me would only be a mercy...''

The navigator stiffened "Wait, what? We're not here to kill you!''

"But...what does it matter to you? After that horrible incident-everyone said you're the ones to blame...''

"Exactly-they said. None of them have proof-we were framed.'' Queen countered. ''We haven't killed anyone, Mizuhara-san and we don't plan on starting now. We're chasing the real killer. He's the one behind the mental shutdowns.''

The Shadow looked mystified for a moment before her head ''...It doesn't matter-even if you were innocent, that day took my most important treasure. My son...my poor son lost his chance at redempetion even after he tried so hard. He did make mistakes but he wanted to change for the better. He could've been free if they just had more time. He was condemned but he tried to stay strong, We agreed that we could try being a family again. But we can't...not anymore. He's gone forever...''

Now it all made sense, this was another person who suffered from the prison incident. Her son was on his way to reform but his second chance taken away from him due to the monsters running that organization. It was bad enough hearing people talk like that but to a mother who just lost her child, it likely felt a thousand times worse.

"...No, he isn't.'' The Shadow glanced at Joker ''I know this must be beyond cruel and painful but the fact is, he'd only be gone if you believe that. It's hard to remember sometimes but the bonds we make don't really fade away if we don't want them to.'' It was how she knew that despite all that happened, her grandparents loved her and they would be there for her. She might as well have been dead to the people of that town but those two had her back. Even with all the distance between them, that hadn't changed.

Oracle remembered when she wished she had died instead of her mother-would Wakaba have been so sad? ''...Our loved ones never leave us, not if we remember them. You seem like a caring mother, I doubt you'll be forgetting him.''

"O-of course not, I could never!''

"That's the most important part.'' Queen smiled. ''I won't lie, the pain doesn't really go away but it does get easier to bear. Your loved ones wouldn't want you to give up-it's actually a friend of yours who led us here. They asked us to help-I don't think they'd try if they didn't care.''

"Indeed, do you not have others dear to you? Would they not be awaiting your return?'' Fox's lips quirked as realization flashed in her eyes. ''You said your son wanted to be a family, he cared to make the effort and change for the better, surely such a strong person would want the same for you? We miss our loved ones but we must honor them by living to our full potential.''

The Shadow was silent for a few moments before a self-depreciating smile spread across her lips ''Yes...how could I have forgotten...? I'm the one who told him to be the best person he can be. I promised to do the same...I nearly broke that promise. He...everyone must be ashamed of me.''

"I don't think anyone could condemn you for grieving.'' Joker held out a hand to her. ''Anyone would be saddened at such a loss, Ma'am. It's what you do after the grieving that matters. It's not over yet even if it seems that way, you can start again.''

Shadow Yui almost smiled, her eyes widening when the Song of Harmony reached her. She relaxed in seconds, feeling at peace. Their words really had helped but this was the final push she didn't know he needed. ''...You're right...that's what he'd want for me too. Thank you, Phantom Thieves.'' She began to fade into light. ''And...murderers wouldn't go out of their way for others' sake the way you have...whoever this criminal is, I hope you stop them.''

"I'm not too sure what to think of our next target-Queen, isn't he the man who accosted you at the station?'' Fox frowned.

She nodded, biting her lip ''He didn't hurt me, I don't think he's a bad person. It's just that he...''

"Her sister's a big jerk.'' Oracle recounted the talk Akechi told them about, leaving the boys digusted.

Skull was predictably the first to react ''The hell?! 'Course he was pissed, he just lost his big brother. It she doesn't have anything decent to say, she can just keep her trap shut!''

"Indeed, that was quite uncalled for.'' Fox put in.

"I know...'' Queen trailed off miserably. Miura had told her of Sae's stance in the issue, to say the man was disappointed was an understatement. Frankly, so was she. How can her sister just be so dismissive? So cold? ''...I just don't understand. Sure, Sis tried to control her emotions under control especially when it came to work but she would never have done this before...why...?''

"...Sometimes people change, you know and not for the better.'' She sighed in agreement with Mona. He didn't want to press the matter further because privately he agreed with Oracle but Queen was obviously upset.

Joker seemed to be of a similar mind, her concern for the other girl was evident but she let the matter be for now ''Mona, where do we go from here?''

The transformed feline welcomed the change of topic ''Right into that next tunnel and then turn left-we're really close...''

"You must be the Phantom Thieves...'' Shadow Kyoji started as they came to face. ''...what're you after me for?! So you hunt me down and leave that people like that heartless witch be?''

''Oi, you got it wrong! We're here to help you-!'' Skull started.

"How am I supposed to believe that when you're with her own sister?''

"Hey, Queen's nothing like Nijima!'' Oracle cut in.

He scoffed ''The apple doesn't fall from the tree. She nearly got my friends in ttrouble because they stood up for me after I found her. My brother died and she had a part in it-but she still brushed it off like it was no skin off her back. He was innocent-our family has been through enough already. He wouldn't have even been in that mess if it wasn't for his asshole of a boss. She claims she just did her job, then why didn't my brother get the justice he deserved?!''

As much as it pained Queen, she knew her sister bore part of the blame for pushing him to this. But it made her feel all the more determined to fix things ''I love my sister but...I'll be the first to admit that she's done some terrible things lately. I didn't have the chance to say it at the station but I'm sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is to lose family, Sis did too...or at least I thought she did.''

A sneer ''Finally something we agree on! Let's see what she has to say when she loses her sibling!''

Shadow Kyoji transformed into Hanuman and swiftly surrounded himelf with an intense aura for a moment. They hoped they wouldn't have to fight but the man was clearly too angry to let this be. Oracle, who had quickly summoned her persona, powered them up with a defense boost ''Uh-oh, he just upped his focus. Expect some critical hits, guys!''

Unfortunately, her warning came out a litle too late as one swipe of his blades knocked Skull down, leaving him dazed. It then unleashed a Deathbound, the force of the blow nearly sending Mona flying before Fox grabbed him. Scowling, the cat was about to attack with his scimitar when Oracle finished her analysis alerting them that the Shadow resisted physical moves, psychic and bless magic. But he was weak to ice. This left him to change tactics and opt for Mercurius' wind magic, Hanuman leaped through the air to dodge the sharp gales. Seeing Necronomicon, he was about to attack just as Joker and Fox stepped in his path.

"Byakko!''

"Goemon!''

The white tiger and gallant rogue appeared before the duo, their combined ice blasts merging into a powered up Bufudyne which the Shadow was barely able to dodge. But even then they could tell he felt the chilling frost. Growling, it lashed out at the two with Tempest Slash but Joker's Song of Harmony shielded them.

The sound of a motorcylcle's engine alerted it to something being amiss just as Queen struck. Johanna's magic blasting it right in the face. Taking advantage of its momentary blinded state, she punched it with all the strength he could muster. However, she didn't expect it to regain balance just before hit the wall and bounced, using the increased momentum to strike back. Queen had to hold back a scream as the blades cut her, barely registering a gun going off before the Shadow howled and jumped away. It was about to attack again when Seiten Taisei's lightning struck hard and true, allowing Joker time to give her medicine that helped her back on her feet. The Shadow threw one its swords at the leader only for Byakko's Counterstrike to activated, sending the blade back at it. Hanuman caught it and retaliated with Swift Strike, leaving them to dodge.

The battle continued at this pace, only Hanuman's speed and sheer tenacity giving him an edge but they realized he was getting cocky. So thanks to a combination of Oracle's bombs and Johanna's nuclear magic, Mona was able to corner him as Skull and Joker peppered him with bullets. The angry enemy's counter was stopped by Byakko's Mabufula, which was just what Fox needed to unleash Goemon's Etheral Malestrom, ending the battle.

Shadow Kyoji fell back, his head low ''I know...I know she wasn't the killer but she was so cavalier about everything that it made me so mad. My brother may have been ditzy but he actually helped keep our family together. My friends understood but even thought wouldn't speak up-they thought we were better off keeping our heads down. Screw that-! I wanted to know why his case was dismissed like that, why no one did anything about his boss. But they just said the police was the one in control and I shouldn't bring down more trouble on my head...and it was true, I couldn't do anything. What's wrong with wanting justice?!''

Queen's heart went out to him, painfully reminded of how things were after they lost their father. The circumstances were different but she still remembered Sae fervently pursuing answers and being brushed aside, left powerless with no one to help. Dismissed out of hand simply because she wanted justice ''...Nothing at all, Izou-san. I know it doesn't mean much from me but your anger is more than understandable, it shows how much you care. If the police just dismissed you like that they're the ones who failed at their own duty. They should be ashamed for letting things end like this.''

Joker nodded ''You both deserve better than this. It's not wrong to want justice but the problem is how you're going about it. You shouldn't involve innocents-that criminal has hurt far too many people. That's why we want to stop him for good, so I promise you-this can't keep going. We'll do all we can to take him down.''

He almost smiled ''That...is actually reassuring.'' To Queen, he added. ''I'm sorry for that day in the station, you didn't deserve that. Your friend was right to call me out. I'll...I'll go back to my real self-enough is enough. Thank you, I won't forget your words.''

Makoto knew she couldn't keep doing this.

She felt terrible for hiding the truth from her friends (and she wouldn't be surprised if a few of them did suspect it). Sae had a Palace, she had known since after Kaneshiro's change of heart.

She wanted to tell her friends but she also wanted to believe in Sae. She wasn't like the other Palace rulers. Her friends had their misgivings about her and given her sister's actions, she really didn't blame them. But they didn't know Sae like she did. They hadn't seen the woman who worked for hours on end to support them, the strong believer of justice, the one who used to read Makoto bedtime stories...it hurt to say but she was starting to doubt if that person was even there anymore.

She was scared-she was so scared for her sister. What would become of Sae after they dealt with the truth? She had known about Sae's Palace since after Kaneshiro's change of heart but she couldn't bring herself to take action. The worst part was that her sister changed so much that she wasn't sure she knew her.

She was so distracted that she hadn't even noticed Futaba passing on a message to Namine before letting Ryuji take her home until Morgana prodded. ''Oh, are you going somewhere?''

"Yup, I think you might want to see this. Come on!''

Futaba really came through and told them where to find the memorial for many of those who died in the prison incident. People tended to forget that while there was the terrible scumbags among the victim, there were also others who are better. Those who had a whole new life waiting out there for them only for it to be snatched away just like that.

But things were never that simple...

"Those people all died, their families left to suffer just because of the Black Mask.'' Makoto spat. ''Shido claims to want what's good for the country but how can any good come so much suffering?''

"I bet 'any good' only counts if it benefits him.'' Morgana sniffed disdainfully. ''They're both monsters, birds of a feather flock together.''

Yusuke hummed in agreement, his eyes traveling to Namine standing a bit further ahead. The girl glanced at the flowers in her hand, watching the people gathering at the memorial stone around the trees. No doubt they were close to those who died so she felt it was best to leave them be.

An old woman passing by noticed the group of four ''Ah, hello there. You came for them as well? Did you know any...?''

"I'm afraid not, however, our friend reminded us all that they deserve to be remembered.'' Yusuke added with a nod at Namine. ''They should be allowed their peace.''

The girl nodded ''...Hearing about all this was awful. People hardly even same to care just because they were criminals-like that makes them any less human. I thought it was horrible, they deserve better than that. So...I know this isn't much...but well, I wanted to do something...''

The woman's eyes shimmered''Thank you, dear, that's so thoughtful! It's so nice to see people like you. A bunch of the prisoners really were scum but everyone forgets that there were those who were family, those dear to us...'' She wiped her eyes but gave Namine a warm smile. ''...I can't tell you how much this means, please come along.''

She let the woman lead her to the memorial, explaining to the few curious onlookers all the while. They appeared pleasantly surprised, making sure to thank the group for the gesture.

The visit reaffirmed their vow to stop Shido and the Black Mask, far too many people had suffered. This had to end.

Well, let's stop here.

I just need to sort things before the Palace, it's a bit slow going but Sae's coming to realize that her superiors aren't as clean as she believes them to be. Sae messed up a lot but I want to show up that there's more to her than meets they eye. I've got a plan on how to handle the Casino but I'll be laying the ground work for everything to unfold. It won't be too long now.

Namine's got a lot to think about when it comes to the future, the record just complicates her situation. She's only had a few months to adjust to losing two years of her life before the story even started and most of that was spent in recovery. Iwai's got plenty of contacts in a bunch of places and that's why he knows so much about the burglary incident, but most of it was generally hushed up for reasons that are going to be revealed in the next arc. I wasn't planning on making Miura and the Fujitakas confidants but I got some recent ideas which I decided to try out.

To clarify, I'd like to point out that a lot of the criminals deserved to be there but there were actually some decent sorts, those wrongfully imprisoned or truly reformed. The PTs are just upset that this people seem to be overlooking this. Oh and yeah, their rep took a big hit and it'll take a lot of work to fix that.

Welp, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!
