Vangran: Thanks! I actually didn't see it like that either, she knows she messed up so she's going to do something to make up for it, but it's a good way to put it. I wanted to handle things differently with Sae since I'm pretty much going to be changing a lot, especially in this next part. I always kind of figured Sae was just too resigned to really fight for equal status anyway.

Gotham317: Hey, thanks! It seems like nearly every time the thieves are trying to have fun in canon, something goes wrong, so it was nice to get to change that. I wanted to do something to commemorate the occasion and the nightingale idea felt right.

Guest: Glad you like it, I'm trying to keep working. It just hasn't been easy for a while now...

''You know we already have one fantasist as it were, at least you don't get around to causing chaos like I have no doubt Futaba would. But still…''

Lips quirking, Namine's burgundy hair wavered with a shake of her head ''Just thinking, it feels like a lot's happening lately. A part of me still can't believe I went and sang in front of the whole school but another's really happy I did.''

''Good, you should be! It's like we talked about before, we've all come quite a long way since we started out, right?''

Nodding, she placed him on her lap ''…You know, it was hard and while I still have loads of questions about it, I'm actually glad we became Phantom Thieves. I'm not sure how things would've been otherwise. We wouldn't have met you, for one thing. Now you're a big part of my life and I wouldn't have it any other way.''

Morgana only smiled, leaning in to her gentle touch ''Same to you. I know I was a real pain at first but thanks for putting up with me. It probably could've been anyone in your position, but I'm glad you're the Wildcard I found.''

''Thanks…I don't know if it's just that I was used to the way things were in my former home but things went down so fast…before I knew it, I just got swept away in it all. At first, it was just easier focusing on people's problems rather than face my own.''

''You too, huh?'' Morgana wasn't surprised, for she rarely spoke about her feelings over the past. ''I did wonder. I want to say it's not a healthy thing but I've done plenty of that myself.''

''So, you knew?''

''Give your partner some credit here, I wouldn't miss something like that.''

''True, that's one of the reasons I know I can count on you.''

Morgana beamed, pleased that she hadn't objected to his declaration of being her partner either. The girl was focused on the shelf, trying to adjust all the souvenirs and knickknacks she'd picked up over the last few months. Like the Featherman figurine Futaba had given her after they'd gone and replaced the actions figures Yusuke had ruined, a charm from their visit to Chinatown with Makoto among others.

The nightingale doll was placed prominently, Futaba giving them the hint to discover why Yusuke had chosen this particular one. Learning what it really meant left Namine touched, unsure that she deserved the praise but it was so nice of him…and a totally Yusuke thing to do.

''Come on, let's go.''

All right, what was going on today?

Namine had been to the arcade a number of times over the last few months, yet none of her visits wound up like this. Every time she looked around, she'd noticed people watching her with interest. A couple were even looking at their phones and then at her, murmurs continuing to grow.

…What was she missing here?

''You really don't have any idea what's going on, huh?'' Had she looked any closer, she would've seen the amusement in Oda's gaze.

''Well, they gave me plenty of weird looks when they found out I came to play with you before…''

Oda hadn't noticed that but it did add up ''Fair enough, I guess. Anyway, let them gawk all they want, we've got better things to do.''

Nodding, the girl turned her attention back to the screen and he started a new game...

''So how come you were so wiped out when you came in?'' Iwai wanted to know.

''I was this close to being mobbed. You tell me how to feel after that.''

''Well, you'd definitely be a big hit after…'' Her clear confusion made him pause ''…Hold on, no one told you about the videos?'' But the answer was clear ''Kaoru showed me yesterday-here…''

The curious pair looked up at his phone screen, a recording of her performance. Namine's eyes widened at the number of views and comments ''Wait, wait, what…?''

Morgana did remember seeing people take recordings but he had no idea it caused such a stir. ''Wow…''

''…I feel so stupid right now…'' Namine had noticed the unusual interest people suddenly had in her but she was used to it after working this long with Yoshida. And that definitely explained what happened earlier at the arcade..

She was going to have words with a certain king and soon. ''…anyway, did you want some help?''

''All right, that's good for today. Oh, but...there's something' I wanna talk to you about. About that secret Tsuda mentioned. There's more to it than my havin' been in the yakuza.'' Iwai crossed his arms.

''I figured...'' That much had been apparent from Tsuda's words but she didn't feel that it was right to pry. ''...but it looked like you really didn't want to talk about that so...''

''Well, you've been this good about it and since you've heard that much...I just wanna make sure you don't go sayin' something stupid if you run into Kaoru 'round here again...especially since you're hittin' it off…''

Kaoru would still make the occasional stop here, just wanting to check up on things. Namine eventually making small talk and it began to help the boy relax. She hoped they could wear Iwai down to the idea of him helping around here but that was a work in progress.

''…Back when I was working with the Hashiba Clan, some crazy lady came 'round our office. Must'be been over ten years ago. She had this baby with her, and the whole time she was there she kept goin' n about how she wanted to sell it.''

''What?'' Namine had a thought. Going by what Tsuda said, Iwai didn't tell Kaoru about the yakuza for more than one reason. The other day, when she ran into him on her way here, Kaoru had mentioned how it was just him and Iwai for as long as he could remember. That along with what Tsuda hinted at...it didn't paint a pretty picture.

''Don't tell me...?''

''Yeah, that was Kaoru. Figured she was just some cracked up junkie lookin' for drug money. But then when I told her no, she set the baby down and ran off. Thinking back on it, I'm still not really sure why I took him in. Not only did I have to leave the clan, but now I'm stuck runnin' this shop I don't even like.'' But even as he said that, he clearly didn't mind one bit ''Everyday's an uphill battle. I still haven't managed to tell Kaoru I was in the yakuza though...''

''I kind of get why after that story but...'' She bit her lip ''...maybe you should come clean.''

''...Lemme ask you somethin'. How would you feel if you found out your parents were wrapped up in some dirty shit?'' Iwai closed his eyes for a moment. ''That's how my mom was. She'd spend every night out drinkin', running around town with all sortsa guys. I couldn't stand to let her destroy herself like that. Often, I wished I could've had someone else as my mom. So...I wanted to make sure Kaoru had a good childhood.''

''Well, I think you did that and then some. It's like we tried to tell you, he cares. He wants to help.'' Namine reminded.

The man gave her a look ''Oh, so that's what those secret looks and stuff you were tryin' to exchange behind my back were about. Something about stubborn blockheads, right?''

''I think my exact words were stubborn old blockhead but yeah, pretty much.'' Iwai fought back a smirk at the smile she shot him then. Cheeky brat…''And you're not exactly proving me wrong. I won't say this won't change anything between you but I don't think Kaoru-kun would let the truth damage your relationship either. You know what would? Blocking him out like this.''

Trouble was, he couldn't deny that was a likely possibility. Still… ''…It ain't that simple, kid. Anyway, that's why I left the clan. I did everythin' according to the code, but now Tsuda's draggin' me back...Once he remembered I run this fake gun-shop, he came by asking' me to make custom models for him.''

''He can try to pretend being civil all he wants but it was pretty obvious what was going on there.''

''Yeah...'' He scowled. ''...the bastard forced me into it by threatenin' to tell Kaoru everythin'. Truth is, Tsuda's got all sortsa dirt. Not just on what happened when Kaoru was a baby but on me and the rest of my family too. Who knows what'd happen if Kaoru learned the truth...Tsuda's isn't gonna stop there though. I'm sure he'd go on and tell everyone else he could. When it's all said and done, he's gonna try and take everythin' I have. If word gets out about my past, people're gonna treat Kaoru like he's no different from me...''

''That's not...'' Namine wanted to think it couldn't be true, she definitely wouldn't treat them any differently. But…others would, wouldn't they?

Iwai seemed to guess what she had in mind ''...Well, people like you are a real rare sort, kid. But that's just the way it is. After all, shitty parents end up makin' shitty kids. And once he's got that stigma, he'll be stuck with it. When shit goes wrong, he'll always be the one who gets blamed. That's how it was with me. That's why I turned to the yakuza. Nobody else would accept me. That's also why I can't turn Tsuda down. He's got too much power.''

Namine didn't think she'd ever hear him talk like this ''That...doesn't really seem like you, Iwai-san.''

Iwai chuckled ''Yeah, not like me to sound so pathetic, huh? I bet Kaoru's sick of havin' a weak-ass dad like me.'' He crossed his arms. ''Anyways, I was tryin' to stall Tsuda with bullshit prototypes while I figured out a way to stop him. But that bastard's real good at keepin' his cards close to his chest. Plus, he caught wind of what I was tryin' to do and started keepin' tabs on me twenty four seven. Thankfully, that's just about when you showed up, kid.'' He sighed. ''Sorry for bringin' all that shit up out of the blue.''

But Namine shook her head ''It's better like this. At least now I completely understand the situation.''

''Really? So you still want somethin' to do with me after all this?''

''Why not?'' Namine gave him a firm look. ''Don't go making assumptions about me.''

He chuckled ''...You're really way too nice for your own good, kid.'' A pause ''Oh, right. Just remembered I never gave you a reward for that info. How 'bout I give you a discount on that menu?''

Hifumi watched with a smile of fond exasperation as Futaba continued to snicker at the table ''Honestly, Futaba-chan. Please don't tell me you're going to make fun of this.''

''Nope, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it!'' The girl hopped to her feet ''Come on, I haven't shown you my room yet, you're missing out!''

Following the excitable girl, the two went to the second floor. Hifumi looked around Futaba's room as the girl led her in ''I see Ann-chan wasn't exaggerating about the computer, that's quite the set up.''

''Isn't it? I customized this baby myself!'' The hacker beamed proudly ''And my game collection is nothing to sniff at either.''

''I'll bet.'' She chuckled ''You were quite vocal about it during the sleepover.''

''Oh, right-between Ann's make up mess and Makoto's trying to show us how to cook healthy, it slipped my mind…'' Futaba made a face ''…and that's not even getting into the train wreck that was the movies. For the record, I'm never trusting Haru with a movie selection again.''

Hifumi may not have had the heart to say it but she did agree. While she personally didn't mind horror stories much, Ann and Makoto did. And their reactions…well, she wasn't the only one who ended up with ringing ears.

And yet…

''You know, it was pretty funny but I didn't think you liked it that much.''

Only then did she realize she was smiling ''Oh, it's not that. I was just thinking…a short while ago, sleepovers seemed like such a foreign thing to me.''

''You too?''

She arched an eye ''Is that really so surprising?''

''Yeah! You're like super pretty and cool, not to mention how smart and good you are with shogi. I can easily picture you having loads of friends!'' Futaba returned.

''Actually, until recently, I've hardly had much of any.'' The older girl didn't see herself as all this but she was certainly flattered. ''Between my reputation, following my mother's wishes and people getting the wrong impression about me, it's no surprise. But I think that's another point we have in common; we know who brought such changes into our lives.''

''Heh, yeah, I hear you.'' Futaba leaned against her new cushion, a recent purchase she made on a trip with Ann and Shiho. ''Namine's awesome like that. Wasn't all that sure when Haru brought up the festival idea, not when Shujin treated her like that but I'm stoked it worked out so well. I was thinking of showing her the best comments. It was surprisingly easy to find too…''

Hifumi couldn't help her own smile at the earnest joy in her tone. ''That's nice of you, I'm happy she pulled it off as well. The result was never in doubt, of course.''

''Right? Besides, I didn't show you the big surprise. Look at this comment!''

Green eyes widened as she registered the familiar name on screen ''Oh, my…!''

Sojiro fought back a smile ''Well, we already knew the video was a big hit. Can't say I saw this coming though.''

''…Futaba knew about this, didn't she?''

''Heh, I told her you'd figure it out.'' Smirking, the man crossed his arms. Considering Namine could easily picture the girl keeping track of the video and snickering to herself all the while, it really wasn't that much of a stretch. ''Overwhelming as it is though, isn't it great? That's a hell of a way to go back to music after so long.''

''Sure, but I wasn't expecting this kind of thing. I knew people recorded me but not that it'd become such a big deal.'' Namine had known about the videos, it was hard not to notice people recording her back then. It was the sheer interest they caused that threw her for a loop. She'd just been satisfied to know that she pulled the performances off, nothing else had mattered to her. ''…Besides, just wait and see how the administration tries milking this for all its worth.''

Now that he hadn't expected ''You sound awfully sure…'' Blinking as she held up her phone, he began reading the message on screen. It was from Yuuki, explaining what he overheard about this exact matter. The school's administration had launched an article about the festival, praising Namine as not only the student they had supported until she reached this point but a rising talent who would take the music world by storm. Even Kawakami had confirmed it when asked, both making their distaste quite clear and the teacher promising that she'd make sure to have Namine's back.

''…opportunistic little…they sure didn't waste any time.'' The more he read, the worst it got. Shaking his head in disgust, Sojiro wondered if they really could be that shameless. As if they hadn't treated Namine like crap right from the get go.

Namine still didn't care what those people would do but the performances had been a personal issue for her. So, it was undoubtedly annoying that those people thought it was okay to take advantage of this for their own benefit.

''You know it's not going to stop here, right?''

''Oh, definitely.'' The girl already knew she was most definitely going to rebuff any attempts they would make to suck up to her. And frankly, given her experience with Shujin so far, it was only a matter of time. ''Besides, what're they going to do? Expel the student they just lauded? That'll look real good to the press.''

Smirking for a moment, Sojiro realized they might have really shot themselves in the foot there. The message made it clear that few if any in school actually believed the administration and she would more than likely have the school's support anyway. Considering the lengths taken by the school to preserve its reputation so far, he wouldn't put it past them either.

''So that was an interesting conversation I overheard between you girls today…the one about Togo-chan's situation.'' He clarified at Namine's surprise ''It's good that you're trying to help her but did you think about telling the police?''

''It's not really up to us, though.'' The girl shrugged ''I did consider telling Miura-san but Hifumi's worried about raising more of a mess around this. Especially when we can't prove much, and her dad's already sickly, if he hears about this too…''

Okay, that was valid. He was already aware that she'd gone through much of the trouble even if she disliked it, for her family's sake. Little wonder she'd try to deal with this as quietly as possible.

''…and she'd still have all the power in this situation. She's the famous announcer and manager with such a strong reputation, they wouldn't listen to us.'' Namine carried on ''Besides, I think we've been given reasons to doubt the police over the years.''

''True…'' Sojiro couldn't say he had much faith in them either, not after Wakaba and especially not once he learned what they put Namine herself through. ''…Miura does seem reliable but I get why you're respecting her wishes. It's some complicated mess though…''

Wasn't that the truth? Namine had tried to think of options before the change of heart but both her ideas would raise an even bigger stir. Ohya would definitely need much more information which they couldn't provide. While he would be much more subtle, Miura couldn't interfere without cause and they couldn't really deal with that and keep things quiet. Besides, from Hifumi's description, her mom was clearly convinced that she was perfectly in the right. She'd probably find some way to weasel out of telling the truth even if they had mentioned her blunt confession the other day.

They were all aware that the change of heart would be followed by chaos but Hifumi had long accepted that. If anything, she wouldn't have any other way than the change of heart. Otherwise, Mitsuyo would fight this at every turn and they didn't want it to come to that. But just like they had Haru's back after Okumura's change of heart, they would definitely be there for Hifumi.

''You know, I think I might have spoiled Maruki for coffee.'' The barista mused ''He was here this morning, actually, said he never enjoys much coffee outside of mine. Apparently, he's friends with that politician friend of yours? Sounds like they met on the train and just hit it off.''

''I can totally see it.'' Namine half-smiled ''Them being friends and the coffee thing, that is. Yoshida-san could probably get along with anyone if they just give him the time of day.''

On that, he certainly agreed. The fact that the affable politician had such a bad reputation was honestly a surprise ''You did mention he was teaching you. What're those lessons like anyway?''

''Well…''

The murmurs were part of the background noise at this point.

Haru had been used to attention for a good part of her life. It came with the territory of being an Okumura. As much as she disliked it, she'd long learned to roll with it. Still…

''There she is again…''

''Honestly, I don't know how those guys live with themselves. Okumura might be trying to save face now but we all know he has no choice. The company would have crashed and burned if he kept this up.''

''Yeah, I bet you anything he bought the police off. Not like those guys do much anyway.''

''Totally, the phantom thieves have definitely been coming through for us way more than them. I wish they'd do something about Okumura…''

Despite having expected such sentiments, Haru couldn't help her heart sinking as she knew that all the resentment towards her father wouldn't fade for a long time.

'Pay the rabble no heed, ma princesse.' Milady's presence was comforting as ever. 'As our leader rightfully believes, their sentiments cannot dictate our actions. We simply have to stand firm for the sake of our goals.'

Yes, that was right. Haru knew that it was only their insistence for her father to stay in the background that kept him safe or likely even alive…after that horrid prison incident…

''Haru-sama!''

Startled out of her reverie, the girl came face to face with a woman in a business suit. Her reading glasses framing kind grey eyes ''Oh hello, Komaki-san.''

''Hello, I'm sorry we didn't know you were coming. We would've welcomed you!''

''Oh, there's no need…I just made up my mind half an hour ago. I simply thought I'd visit and check in on Father, he's been working so hard.''

Komaki nodded ''It's honestly been quite a change. A lot of people don't understand why we stuck it out but personally, I'm starting to see a hope for the president becoming the man we were happy to work for again.'' Haru's expression lit up at this ''It's been such a turnaround, almost makes me wonder if the Phantom Thieves really did strike…''

''Um, what do you think of them?''

''You mean with all the recent talk and that godawful incident?'' The woman guessed correctly ''Truth be told, I'm not sure. I know the police like to rag on them but some of us have actually been helped by them in one way or the other. My friends are much better off in their job now that their boss isn't abusing anyone again and it's all thanks to them. They've done nothing but help people so it's hard not to have faith in them and well, what's the point of committing such a horrible thing? The public can yak all they want but honestly, their opinion isn't all reliable either. Some of what they say about that prison murder makes me want to vomit.''

''I know what you mean. The fact that they think such sentiments are even acceptable is just…'' Both started as a voice called out to Komaki from the end of the hall, the woman excusing herself before heading off.

Haru let out a breath, a small smile coming to her lips as a number of the other employees she passed stopped to greet her too. It was really nice to see them all this happy and the fact that they welcome her like this never failed to elevate her mood.

It wasn't long before she arrived at her intended destination.

A surprised voice ''Haru? What're you doing here?''

Things were a bit awkward, something she was sadly growing used to. Change of heart or not, a lot had gone down between them and they couldn't go back to the way things used to be.

Aware of the tension as well, Kunikazu spoke ''Actually, you have some timing. Mariko was just asking about you…'' The girl blinked, confused ''…come to think of it, it has been a few years so you may not recall. Mariko is an old friend of mine, the one who used to play with you back when she lived here and I would be working on some deals. I think she tried teaching you things like golf at some point.''

Wait, so that had to be…''Mari-san? I thought she'd forgotten all about me…''

''Never.'' He assured ''You two were practically family, she misses you just as you did her.''

Haru smiled widely, her heart soaring at the thought of the woman who'd been like a mother figure to her. She'd been so sad when Mariko's job took her all the way to Sapporo but even then, they'd managed to keep in touch. Then when her communication cut off, it really hurt. The only thing she could do back then was try not to think about it. Wrestling back the surge of anger at Kunikazu, Haru resolved to try getting in touch with her as soon as she could.

''She often did try to keep in touch with us, in my hubris, I dismissed her out of hand. You missed her giving me quite the earful for everything so far. I imagine it'd be far worse if she found out what I put you through, and I'd deserve it. Her exact words were 'If I ever meet the Phantom Thieves, I'll shake their hands and offer them any help I could for everything'. That's something I certainly agree with.''

Haru blinked twice, definitely not expecting that ''Ah, Father, do you think they changed your heart?''

''Truth be told, I wasn't sure at first but I think it's quite likely. And I really want to thank them for it.'' Kunikazu gave a crooked smile ''I deserved far worse for what I've done, even as determined as I am to make up for everything. I'm not sure it's possible. I'm just sorry I can't do much about you having to face the repercussions, my dear.''

''Oh, no, don't worry-I'm used to it. A-ah, I mean…!'' Haru realized she was making it worse. ''To be honest I'm still angry with you but I'm happy you're taking such steps; it doesn't matter what people think when we know the truth. We are still family and I won't want to walk away, so they won't stop me supporting you, Father.''

His grateful smile made her beam back ''You have no idea how much that means to me. Especially after I've failed you…before I'd even known it, you've grown so much. The employees are singing your praises and watching your interactions reminded me of father.''

''Thank you!'' Haru had heard such sentiments before but it meant even more coming from him. Not to mention the fondness in his tone when speaking of her grandfather, it had been so long. ''I was blessed with wonderful friends, they helped me far more than I can say. I wouldn't be who I am now without them.''

''I'm truly pleased to hear it. Although, speaking of, that reminds me, I heard something interesting about Shujin…'' He began tapping on his computer screen, revealing an article Haru had seen this morning ''…that was…informative. I've always known that much of Shujin's administration cared for its own wellbeing over the school itself and that clearly hasn't changed. Hyakuya-san seemed like a sensible girl with a good head on her shoulders, please tell me she knows better than to agree with those fools.''

The idea itself was so absurd that Haru couldn't help giggling ''Oh, absolutely. In fact, knowing Nami-chan, I wouldn't be surprised if she has at least three ways to tell them just what they can do with any offer…''

Whatever she expected when stopping to sort out her Personas, it certainly hadn't been Caroline trying to berate her for hiding stuff from them. Which eventually made her realize she meant the performances.

But at the end, she only had one appropriate response here.

Joker gave the warden an incredibly unimpressed look that had her faltering ''…Justine, correct me if I'm wrong but who was it that said that you guys know everything about me and it's part of your business for what you do here?''

The quiet blonde made no effort to hide her smile ''I certainly won't argue there. Well played, Inmate.''

''Don't back her up!'' Caroline was madder at herself, namely because Joker was right and she couldn't think of a way to refute her argument. ''Oh, just finish up and go!''

''Yes, Ma'am.'' The girl played along, sharing an amused look with Justine before heading off.

''So, how's the newfound fame, superstar?'' Oracle chirped.

The girl didn't even bother looking back at her ''And just how long were you waiting to bring that up?''

''She actually practiced it in front of the mirror.'' Mona informed blandly.

''H-hey!'' The girl blurted, clearly caught ''And how do you even know, kitty?!''

''If you wanted to hide this, maybe consider practicing when I'm not right in the next room.''

Oracle's face grew warm as some of her friends started laughing, a very amused Flora summing up the sentiment 'I believe this can be considered karma.'

''Yup and it's beautiful.'' Skull chirped, Noir giggling next to him.

Mona cocked his head curiously ''So I guess Sage can't make it again, huh?''

''Yeah, people are really freaked out about the prison fiasco. And I guess he's finally starting to get the credit he deserves so more are starting to count on him.'' Panther couldn't blame them. The mental shutdowns were horrible enough but something like this too. It was scary even when they knew what was going on. Heck, even when they resolved to stop those monsters, the idea of going up against people who could cause such atrocities was terrible.

'At ease, my dear. This is why we fight, no? Beneath the fear remains a flame that burns all our opposition away.' Hecate offered, the girl nodding firmly.

Deciding to change the subject, Panther moved on ''You looked really happy when we came, Noir. Good day?''

''That, or she's super psyched to fight again.'' Skull put in.

''It's a little of both, actually. I had a very nice chat with Father before our meeting-he told me…'' Her smile grew at the thought of Mariko's contact information in her phone ''…well, let's just say there's someone I'm hoping to see again.''

''Oh, that's nice. An old friend?'' Mona hummed as she nodded ''By the way, your dad really does seem to have changed for the better. This is the first time we've really had a chance to see the effects of a change of heart on a corrupted palace ruler. It's interesting to see the kind of difference he makes now.''

''Father is actually quite grateful to us. He might not know the specifics but he is aware that we stopped him spiraling even further into depravity.''

Having feared for him all this time, Noir couldn't describe how much of a relief it was to see him back to the man she once knew. The thought of her father going to jail hurt but she knew it could happen anyway. Thankfully, they were able to put that on hold. After that horrid prison incident…the thought that her father could've been among the victims made her stomach turn.

All in all, his future may still be uncertain but they would cross that bridge when they came to it. For now, they had to handle the problems of the present.

Mona blinked twice as he registered the new target, his expression turning into one of distaste ''Hey, actually…that's the sleaze from before!''

Fox looked away from Shadow Wakasa back to Mona as Joker and Oracle grimaced ''You know him?''

''Yuri-san was talking about some weirdo who came up to them before and she said he gave them some real bad vibes. We saw him once too. He kept offering them some favors but he came off as so fishy that they couldn't trust a word he said.'' He made a face.

Fox felt a growing sense of irritation at the thought of Joker being treated like that and it made him want to let the shadow have it. Admittedly, he wasn't sure where that came from. Certainly, the thought of any of his female friends being subjected to such attentions was distasteful but still…

Oracle took over ''He was even trying to come on to Joker; I don't even know how people trusted him with anything. I totally wanted to kick where the sun doesn't shine but then Itsuki-san practically threw the creep to the curb, it was hilarious and awesome.''

''No arguments here.'' Joker almost smiled; creep was almost too nice to describe that man. People had commended his character in passing and she wondered just how on earth he fooled them so well.

''The Phantom Thieves, huh? I hear about you a lot. You're a bunch of glamorous thieves, right?'' Shadow Wakasa leered. ''Behind the scenes though, you guys must be making lots of money. Tell me how you do it.''

''Oi, don't lump us in the same category as scam artists like you!'' Mona exclaimed.

''Tricking nice old people into givin' you their money...just how much of a big jerk are you?'' Skull crossed his arms.

''Huh? That money's my caregiver fee, I humor them and hear all their dumb small talk, don't I? They blab on and on about how kind their son is. Well, that son's got some dumb parents!'' The shadow cackled.

''You really are a scumbag.'' Queen ground out.

''Aw man, you Phantom Thieves are gettin' on my nerves. Get outta here before I make you!'' Then the awaited transformation took place, the dark and towering form of Chernobog staring them down.

The shadow started by using Heat Wave, but the utilization of the attack seemed a bit off. It barely hit anyone-the reason for that soon became clear with Oracle alerting them of the incoming Tentarafoo. Since Fox and Queen had been standing close to each other, the spell soon caught them both.

Fox began tossing some of his money around, something that left Skull doing a double take ''Never thought I'd see the day…''

''Would you get serious?! We've gotta help them!'' Panther snapped.

''To be fair-he's got a point…'' Oracle blanched ''…oh, boy-Queen, no!''

Both followed her line of sight in time to see Johanna buffing up the enemy's defense. Noir made to try healing them only to be forced to dodge Fox's oncoming katana. The artist was already walking away, lost in the thralls of confusion. Gritting her teeth at the shadow's laughter, she was swift to get her grenade launcher out. But it seemed to brush off the impact with little trouble, no doubt thanks to its new buff.

A new problem came when they realized their friends dropped some of their items. Something the enemy was quick to take advantage of with gusto. Tossing a few of them around, he was quick to seize on a few of the weaknesses he'd nailed, knocking a startled Mona down. Noir stepped in to defend the feline, summoning Milady for a counterattack. Only the Persona's warning saw her moving in time to dodge an oncoming nuclear spell, staring in shock at Queen.

Mona pulled himself up ''Looks like they can even react badly to Personas, best not to take any chances….''

Biting her lip, Noir carefully aimed her grenade launcher ''Sorry about this!''

Her shot hit the ground not too far away from them, knocking the pair of their feet. Mona nodded at her gratefully, speeding up to use some of their medicine. But then he was taken aback when a sudden burst of electricity left his fur.

''Mona-chan!'' Noir leapt in to grab the cat, moving him away from the enemy strike. She winced as one of his claws cut her arm. The Shadow was quick to move in again for another attack only for a shield courtesy of Oracle to block the oncoming Brave Blade.

''Man, who would've thought having the items would blow up in our faces like that…'' The navigator muttered, relieved as Noir managed to patch up the dazed Mona. ''…just keep hammering away at the asshole, guys. He doesn't have any weaknesses!''

''Great…'' Mona's words died in his throat as they heard an outcry from their friends, finding Panther and Noir guarding against a Heat Wave attack.

Joker pursed her lips as the Shadow used Tentarafoo on their addled friends again to extend the effect ''Guys, divide and conquer. Mona, see if you can sneak around and heal Fox and Queen, maybe distract them with one of your items. We'll deal with the creeper.''

''Right!''

She immediately took out her revolver, exchanging nods with Skull as he produced his own gun, both firing at the Shadow at once. Chernobog jumped back, having used one of the items to increase his speed, laughing ''Think you can stop-?! Gah!''

Skull fought back a laugh as the enemy was struck with a dagger thrumming with curse magic, Arsene catching it as he attacked next. Panther summoned Hecate, who unleashed a wall of blistering flame as Noir fired another shot from her grenade to cause an even bigger explosion.

When the shadow tried to attack again, he was met with Fox's icy blade. The artist swept it in an arc, creating frozen spikes that coalesced around the enemy. Skull summoned a number of lightning bolts that the shadow tried to dodge, only to be taken aback when a gust of wind blew him right into the spell's path Shooting the smirking Mona a thumbs up, the teen was quick to follow up the attack.

But then, the enemy used Brave Blade. The odd part was that he aimed it to the ground, leaving a baffled Skull to pause in his track only to realize that the move propelled him into the air. His real target was soon revealed to be Joker, lunging down as he used another Brave Blade as the girl reached for her mask.

A smoke cloud struck, raising a smoke cloud as a few of the onlookers cried out in alarm. Similarly concerned at first, Oracle began to grin with one scan, making her realize their leader's ploy.

Chernobog's glee faded when the smoke dissipated revealing that Joker was safe behind the shield of Tetraja. Next to her was a spear wielding woman in black and red armor, this was Nezha.

Her new Persona unleashed a blistering attack of Myriad Slashes at great speed, leaving her adversary reeling. She then released a Psiodyne right in the shadow's face, leaving it crying out in pained shock as it covered its eyes.

''Playing hard to get, huh? All you girls are the same!'' The enemy leaped to attack again but she was faster, dodging with ease before firing a couple of bullets.

''Hey, what do you know, I found a good use for your mouth!'' She allowed herself a smirk as the shadow choked on the bullet he was trying to force out. Despite the situation, Oracle couldn't help snickering.

Nezha struck again, leaving him with barely had time to react to Panther's widespread gun attack ''If someone says no, they mean no, you creep!''

Queen was seething ''I've had enough of this. Johanna!'' She rode her Persona, familiar power gathering around her ''Now, Zero Dissolver!''

The powerful, compressed burst of nuclear magic imploded, sending the Shadow to the ground. Within moments, he was transformed back to the human form. ''Ugh, I've been such a bastard, taking advantage of those nice people and trying to harass those girls…''

''You have to apologize. Do you even understand how much pain you caused?'' Queen crossed her arms.

''Now would be a good time to start.'' Fox added pointedly.

''Yeah...I'm sorry I kept coming on to you.'' He bowed his head to Joker ''…And…I'll visit the houses of everyone I tricked before turning myself in. To my parents too…for being such an idiot…''

''Nice one, Joker! I can't believe you noticed the treasure demon even in that dark area…'' Mona transformed into a car with the battle done, the thieves getting on board.

''I'm surprised too, I'm not sure how…oh, Queen, that way.'' She pointed left. ''It looked like there were a whole bunch of shadows on the other tunnel.''

Nodding, the girl adjusted the wheel, taking a moment to look back. She could indeed spot said beings then. While they could handle the shadows in this area well enough, there was no reason to push their luck and numbers like that could be troublesome. ''I'm relieved you noticed that too…''

''You know, those overdrive moves really are something, huh?'' Oracle tilted her head ''I've been wondering-you guys just use them like any other skill, right?''

''Mostly. But we're only able to use them every now and then lest we exhaust ourselves.'' Fox offered. ''Ah, are you wondering how yours would be?''

''Kinda obvious, right?'' She shrugged ''Skull and Panther said it just came to them but maybe it's different for me because Necronomicon's all about support?''

''Could be, yeah.'' Mona agreed ''You two already do a lot anyway, I wonder what your overdrive ability could even be.''

The girl hummed, deep in thought. She had just rolled with things, not having her own Overdrive didn't really bother her when her friends' abilities had served them so well. But when she thought of what they learned recently, Circe, Pluto and that near encounter with the Black Mask…she felt that she could do better. She needed to, her entire goal was to make her mother's murderers pay and there was every chance they used the fruits of Wakaba's hard work to learn about this world. They had to be stronger if they were going to stop the corrupt bastards abusing this world.

Now this one was a target the thieves had been looking forward to.

Witnessing the smug Shadow of Togo Mitsuyo continue to plot ways to take advantage of their friend was aggravating to put it lightly.

''…yes, that's it. That's perfect, with just a few more matches and we'll be set. Hifumi will finally the star she was meant to be and I…''

''…aren't going anywhere.'' Panther cut in. ''So this is all what you care about? Hifumi was devastated when she discovered your scheme and you're still going to keep going no matter how grief you put her through?!''

''Hmph, she's making a big deal out of nothing. She just needs to do as she's told. All this is for my family after all, it's for her own good!''

''Like hell it is!'' Skull fired back ''She never asked for any of this shit, she hates the shoots and now she has to deal with her own mom making her out to be a fraud in the game she loves.''

''I'm really sick of hearing this talk, Hifumi isn't a puppet. She's a person with her own thoughts and feelings, ones you're trampling on for the sake of your selfish ambitions!'' Queen snapped.

Joker couldn't help remembering the way Hifumi broke down in tears, discovering that all she'd done for her family only led to this ''She worked so hard and put up with all your demands because she loves her family and this is what she gets?''

''I wouldn't expect children to understand! Just who do you think I'm doing this for?''

''Uh, you, obviously.'' Oracle's tone made it clear just how pointless she thought the question was. ''And it's always the same old excuse with you people, we're kids so we wouldn't get it. Pull the other one and see how loud it rings.''

A growl ''I've had enough of this!''

The group braced themselves as the new enemy floated into the air. Noir kicked their offense off with a Mapsio, the enemy flying her to dodge before surprising them with a Mudoon. Joker put paid to that by stepping in front of its path, having already switched to Arsene, whose curse resistance put paid to that attempt. The shadow then surprised them by casting Mabufula and Mazionga back-to-back, resulting in electrified ice that pelted a wide spread area. Panther bit back a pained cry as the shards hit her, stumbling to a knee.

''Nimue!'' A beautiful woman with long flowing hair with pixie wings and a dress in various shades of blue appeared before Joker. ''Kougaon!''

The fast, powerful blast served to knock the enemy back, making Mona grin ''Looking cool, Joker!''

''Nice! Wonder when she got that one?'' Skull watched in satisfaction as Nimue cast a widespread Makouha, leaving the enemy to fly away in an attempt to dodge. A notion she quickly regretted thanks to Johanna's nuclear magic landing right in her path.

Screeching, she righted herself before crashing down, firing back with Mapsi that her targets were forced to dodge. Queen reacted in time, summoning Johanna and revving up in an attempt to ram her. Dodging once more, the enemy attempted a close up Ziodyne only for Queen to be surrounded by a shield of silver that negated it.

Panther got an idea ''Oh, Joker-can you try that Makouga again?''

The girl did so, Nimue flying above as she summoned the shimmering hail. Grabbing her whip, Panther watched the enemy fly carefully as she tried to get around the spell before immediately lashing out once she was close enough. Gasping, the shadow had no time to react as the whip wrapped around her torso as Panther summoned all the strength she could muster to throw her down.

''Nice one, Panther! Get him!'' Oracle chirped, adding a buff as her friends unleashed the All Out Attack.

But she wasn't done ''As if I'll fall like this!''

The enemy unleashed a Magarula and Mazionga, creating a miniature tempest with lightning falling randomly. She cackled as they were left trying to dodge or tank the blasts. Skull stepped in to defend his friends while Joker switched to Thunderbird to help but the attack was too widespread. Just as Noir and Queen were about to be knocked down again within the chaotic area, Necronomicon glowed. In a flash of green, the pair were gone and back behind Shadow Mitsuyo, assaulting the unsuspecting enemy.

The girl allowed herself a grin ''Yup, Position Hack is going to be handy!''

But the battle wasn't over, Joker knew they needed some sort of way to throw the shadow off. She had such versatility that it was hard to keep track of her moves and it was clear that she'd figured out their weakness. It was only her own wild card abilities that let her avoid that but it likely wouldn't be long before that advantage was null and void.

Wincing as she stood, she tried to think of something. Any way to turn this situation around, she refused to let the woman evade the consequences of her actions any longer. Hifumi deserved better and they would make sure she got it.

But what could they…?

Her thoughts came to a halt as a silver glow flashed around her hands for a moment. Confused, the girl heard Flora speak up then 'Ah…perhaps I may be able to help you even weakened as I am now. It just so happens that you do have the means to help Joker, I'll show you how. Summon the Song as usual and I'll handle the rest.'

Joker concentrated, the familiar glow of the protective power surrounding her. It was then that she realized what the spirit meant, the two working in tandem as Joker rejoined the team. A big, glowing circle appeared around her, shimmering silver light wafting to all her close teammates.

Queen, Noir and Panther felt much lighter than ever. Almost like when Mona increased their speed but different somehow. As the light bathed them in its warmth, they could feel it beginning to heal their injuries too. Noir was quite surprised to discover that she could brush past the enemy's oncoming attack with little trouble, jumping back as she hefted her axe.

''Whoa, awesome!'' Oracle could see everything from her Persona, analyzing what she now realized was a buff unlike any she'd seen. Joker had just upped the girls' speed, defense and even given them a steady regen effect. This could actually give them one heck of an edge!

The trio seemed to recognize that too, Queen leading the charge. Startled by her sudden speed, the enemy tried to use Psiodyne again only to be stunned as Queen jumped up, using her increased momentum to land a strong punch. She was then assaulted by a combination of Milady's Riot Gun and Hecate's Agidyne, the flaming blast blowing her down.

''D-damn it, I'm not losing…definitely not to you brats!''

The declaration was followed by Magarula and Mabufula, the winds feeling frigid and hastening the ice's formation. Recoiling, Panther knew she had nowhere to go with all the ice surrounding her fast only to be surprised when Arsene emerged, flying away with her before landing far from the ice. Beaming at the gentleman thief who tipped his hat to her, Panther was quick to continue the fight.

''Daaaamn, the Song of Harmony can do that too?'' Skull stared.

Mona was about to put in his piece when both heard Fox cry out ''Joker!''

The girl was on her knees, panting. She almost slumped against Fox as he helped her up, his grip being the only thing keeping her steady. Flora sounded horribly guilty 'I'm so sorry, I never realized-!'

Immediately set to demand answers, Fox felt Goemon react, his presence being a steady to reminder not to lose his head and focus on tending to his friend. ''I'll take care of her. You two help them, the sooner we finish this, the better.''

Nodding, the two joined their friends. Fox didn't doubt that Oracle knew what was going on but likely held her tongue to both avoid distracting the others or bringing the enemy's attention.

Joker blinked a few times as he gave her medicine, holding the side of her head. She sounded a bit dizzy ''Whoa…that was…''

'Apparently, you've discovered a new use for the Song then?' Goemon clarified and she nodded.

''And it was just what we needed, let's leave this to the others.'' His greater whole added.

Watching Noir and Queen combine their powers into a hail of nuclear bullets, Joker was ready to agree ''Y-yeah…looks like I'm out. Thanks for having my back.''

''And I always will, this is nothing to merit gratitude.'' Fox dismissed ''Besides, if anything, it is we who should thank you. You are the reason we could turn the tides now.''

Even when the effects of the buff faded, it was clear that their friends clearly had the battle under control.

Panther kept her grip tight, the whip making the shadow choke as she struggled to breathe. Skull concentrated so that his club thrummed with lightning ''Try some of this!''

With a final cry, she was thrown back down, de-transforming. Shame colored Shadow Mitsuyo's every feature ''I…I…''

''You can't keep doing this, do you have any idea how much you hurt Hifumi-chan?'' Noir demanded.

''She was always thinking of you, of her family. No matter how much she wanted things to be different, she did her best to help. Doesn't that mean anything?'' Joker added.

Flinching, the shadow lowered her gaze ''…I just wanted…I thought I was doing what's best for the family…I didn't want us to live in squalor again. I was the only one who could keep us afloat for so long…'' A sigh ''…but you're both right. I knew Hifumi just wanted to be a great shogi player much like my husband and I always ignored her wishes. We were so happy when she won her first tournament, people started saying she was a prodigy and I let it go to my head…''

''And now she's going to have to deal with people attacking her just because you wouldn't lay off, some family.'' Oracle bit out.

''I-it won't come to that! I'll confess everything…I'll make sure they know…''

But Skull shook his head with a grunt, remembering the other day ''That ain't gonna cut it. People have already been blaming her for your bullshit, only difference is she knows what's going on. Did you even notice she's been avoiding you?''

By her expression, the answer was yes. Mona giving her a look ''Let me guess, you just dismissed it as her being 'dramatic'?''

''I'll do better, I won't let this continue…I'll be the mother she deserves.'' With that declaration clear, she returned to her greater whole.

Oracle let out a breath ''That's the end of that-how about we call it a day?''

''Sounds like a plan.'' Panther agreed readily, both turning towards Joker ''You okay? What happened back there?''

''Flora, you did something, right? I had to keep focusing on the battle but I picked up on this new energy. Are you figuring your powers out?'' The former added.

'I believe so.' The spirit affirmed 'It's hard to explain but I simply pictured a possibility for the Song and it somehow worked. It seemed like a reasonable application but I never thought it would take such a toll on Joker.'

''I told you, it's okay. A lot of what we learn about the Song is because of trial and error anyway.'' Shaking her head, Joker took over ''It'd be really useful, so if anything, thanks. Does this mean you're starting to remember something though?''

Mona looked curious ''Oh yeah, if you were able to do something like this…?''

'It's not that simple.' Flora cut in 'I thought I almost had something but it slipped away. I don't mind though, it's good that I can help even as I am now.'

''I really want to see what you're like when your memories come back…'' Oracle was more curious about their new friend than ever. What kind of powers did she have to pull off something like this?

The team was about to head home for the day when Futaba perked up ''Oh, man-I can't believe I forgot! Namine, check this out...''

Everyone looked on curiously as she took out her phone ''Me and Hifumi were talking about the comments from your video at the festival. Here's the kicker!''

It took Namine a few moments to realize what she was talking about and frankly she was speechless. There was no way…

Quirking a brow, Ann looked at Futaba, who pointed at the comment on screen. The blonde couldn't help squealing in glee then ''Oh, my god, are you for real?!''

''Dude, awesome!'' Ryuji grinned widely while Makoto smiled.

Haru was no less delighted ''My, that's wonderful!''

The reason behind the sudden infusion of excitement was that Futaba's discovery happened to be a comment from none other than Risette of all people!

Risette: Now this is someone who knows their stuff! Ten out of ten for the amazing voice and passion to go with it. I hope we get to see her perform again someday!

''Wow…'' To think one of the musicians she very much admired said that about her, Namine was mind-blown to say the least.

''Looks like talent knows talent when they see it.'' Morgana chirped.

''Absolutely, I must say I agree with Futaba. This is truly the highlight of the comments.'' Yusuke put in.

''Right?'' Aforementioned girl took Namine's arm ''Come on, we gotta celebrate!''

Laughing, Namine let her lead. She had just started that performance to test her self but it was certainly paying dividends. The comments about the video were flattering for sure but this? This just made her month.

Well, let's stop here.

More events to settle first before dealing with Sae's Palace which is going to begin very soon. Maybe I'm being a little biased but Yoshida just seems like the kind of person who'd get along with anyone, so it's easy to picture him hitting it off with Takuto. Shujin's been in the limelight plenty this year and the festival probably gave the school the only bit of positive rep in a long time so they definitely want to cash in on it. Too bad for them, Namine's not playing ball. Rise's actually in town for a recording, hence how she heard of the video. I definitely plan for her and Namine to meet and eventually, introduce the older Persona users but they'll have a much bigger role in the sequel.

Oh yeah, Nimue and Nezha are from the Charity and Passion arcanas. I figure if since I added more arcanas I might as well put new Personas to match. To clarify, Sojiro only knows that they're helping Hifumi stay away from her mom to avoid things going worse. He wouldn't have necessarily minded if they had mentioned posting the request, the team's just being careful because they know a lot of people have mixed opinions about the PTs after the prison murders. So yeah, it wasn't enough to destroy their reputation completely but it definitely took a hit. Anyway, Oracle learned Position Hack from the training sessions, I don't remember if I added that there but I'll go back and fix it if I didn't. They're all picking up tricks along the way, including Flora. Yeah, she's a special case but for now her power is going to be pretty limited.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!
