Long ago, 1 week after the end of the Eggman War...
Cyber wandered the halls of the Resistance HQ, frustrated again at her lack of an ability to find a suitable voice replacement for the Badnik one she'd had since escaping from Eggman's labs. The varieties they had available were certainly pleasant, but none of them felt like...Her.
But who was she, really? She'd only been on-duty for about a month before it all ended, and only aware of herself for about 3 weeks beforehand. She couldn't remember who she had been before she'd been turned into a cyborg, nor where to start. She sat down on the ground, her head in her mechanical hands, frustrated.
"Hey, what's the matter?" A gruff, but gentle voice asked above her. Cyber perked up a bit as she recognized the voice as Jack, one of the soldiers who found her. She hadn't told him yet, but she had what she believed was a crush on him. She pulled out a small decoding device that translated her speech into text for him to read. "-It's all of this voice stuff. I can't find one that's right for me.-"
"And why is that?" Jack asked, sitting down next to her. "-I don't know. Maybe it's because...I don't know any voice besides this one. I know it sounds strange, but...I LIKE my voice as it is. It's...Me.-"
"Then why change it?"
"-But...Won't other people judge me?-" Cyber asked, nervously.
"Look, if someone wants to judge you for being yourself, then they're not worth your time anyway. Yo...I mean, a dear friend of mine used to say that." Jack got up, and extended a hand towards Cyber. "Hey, I'm taking Raccoon back to his jungle, now that it's been deemed safe again. You want to come with? Say good-bye?"
Cyber nodded eagerly, and took his hand, maybe holding onto it a bit longer than she really needed to...
Not that he seemed to mind.
NOW
Cyber paused her work only briefly as the memory flashed in her mind, distracting her. That had been just before Raccoon asked to stay in the civilized world with Jack. Before Jack had asked if she could stay with him. Before he told her about Sarah. Before they'd even professed their love for each other.
And now, they were gone.
She'd awoken not long ago. Word of the hunt for the Chaos Emeralds had roused her. Before, she had been left in shock at the senseless slaying of her makeshift family, but now, all she felt was anger.
Jack's sword and Wispon had been recovered from the site of the battle, the latter having been dropped when Jack sacrificed himself for her. They would come in handy for her goal:
Kill Infinite.
