Chapter 6

Saiyan Eulogy

Kakarot was sent flying with a Red Ki Wave driving him deeper into the base. Kakarot spread his arms and legs in order to slow his launch, he tore through room after room until eventually Kakarot let out a loud yell creating a burst of Ki which dissipated the beam and halted his acceleration until he found himself indented into a computer console. Kakarot immediately pulls himself out of the hole only for his body to start shaking out of shock from the attack he was just hit with and immediately collapses onto his hands and knees.

Kakarot lets several heavy breaths out before saying to himself, "Damn, that–huff–thing–aargh–actually hurt." After a minute of regaining his stamina Kakarot manages to regain his footing and finally stand up straight. Kakarot says to himself while leaning forward and putting his hands on his knees, "Their gear does everything for them, it even knocked the wind out of me." Suddenly what's left of Kakarot's Scouter sparks again, the lens was already missing, and the buttons were fried. In response Kakarot quickly grabs it, pulls it off his ear and tosses it to the side. "Not to mention breakin' my Scouter." Kakarot then thought back to the exploding Ki Cannon that damaged it in the first place. Kakarot already took note that their gear was better than what he and his allies were told.

The exploding Ki Cannon was something Kakarot was somewhat familiar with. While Kakarot didn't much care for tech, only really learning the basics of what he would be using, he encountered this specific malfunction in older Freeza gear. Kakarot thought to himself, "Gen five or six… yeah I remember one of those Gen's having a bad issue with the power whatsit's or whatever you call it." Kakarot shook his head, deciding he'd ask Raditz about it since he was much more well versed in Freeza tech than Kakarot ever was. Feeling his strength returning, Kakarot did a brief check on his own body.

Kakarot noted that he was feeling back to 100 percent, realizing the attack from earlier only shook him a little. This is when he suddenly heard a voice mixed with static from a computer console next to him. It's at this time when Kakarot realizes he's inside the base's Comm Center, where the enemy would contact their outside forces and other military structures. Kakarot approached the console and listened to a panicked voice that rang from it. "Obsidian Base come in, this is Onyx Airbase, we are under attack from the invaders!" The sound of explosions and screams echoed throughout the room. "The operation was a failure, the aliens wiped out the Air Fleet in a matter of seconds. We didn't stand a chance."

Apparently whatever operation they were planning, fell flat on its face when Vegeta and Nappa got involved. The transmission continued, "Our planet is lost, we have set up evacuation shuttles on the other side of the planet. I know it may be a tall order, but we will need every soldier you can spare." Suddenly a familiar voice responds to the panicked Soldiers words, "Evacuation? Hmph, as if I'd allow that." The soldier made a panicked sound followed by, "No!" Kakarot recognized the voice as Vegeta's. He could recognize his arrogant voice anywhere. Vegeta then said, "Actually this is perfect, this will speed up this boring assignment by a great deal."

The panicked soldier yelled out, "I won't let you-!" Before he could finish, he began to choke on something which was followed by Vegeta saying, "Thank you, and don't worry about your people, you'll be reunited in a matter of hours." Right then the communications were interrupted with a sudden boom after which everything turned into pure static. That unfamiliar feeling of pity and unease clouded Kakarot's mind again. This time however he shook his head and calmly said, "Damn it, I need to deal with this soon, get myself checked out. Whatever this is, a doc can fix it." Kakarot flew down the path of destruction he left in his wake after being shot.

That was until he stopped by a large room with signs in a language Kakarot didn't recognize, this caught his attention. It was full of circular, flat devices. They were in varying sizes from a quarter the size of the Defenders Ki Cannons to truck sized ones. Kakarot asked himself, "What are these?" Kakarot stepped into the room and picked one off the wall. It wasn't very heavy, but it looked important since they were all stashed away in one place. Kakarot noticed one that was the size of an automobile and callously tossed the one he was holding behind him only for the force of a small explosion to push him forward by a foot.

Kakarot quickly turned a full 180 degrees looking behind him for the cause of the explosion but only found a single small crater with smoke emanating from where the disc should have been. Kakarot noticed that the surrounding discs were glowing and vibrating lightly. Kakarot could recall that the Ki Cannon that blew up in his face vibrated as well when he put a little Ki into it. They soon returned to the docile state they were in a short moment ago. Kakarot felt like he was onto something and so he picked another small device up and then walked back into the damaged trail he caused when being shot by the Tank.

He placed the disk farther back in the trail, around where the communication room was and flew several feet back and then fired a very weak Ki blast at it. As expected, the disk exploded creating a large crater in the "hallway". This confirmed Kakarot's suspicions, he scowled and said, "Those morons. They use these "Disks" to amplify their gear, no wonder that explosion from earlier had so much oomph to it." Kakarot looked at the small crater and said, "Guess this is the price they pay for power." He shut his eyes and said to himself, "It's shameful, they should have worked on themselves rather than relying on these toys. They might have stood a better chance or at least have earned themselves a good death."

Kakarot opened his eyes again, looking at the disks and grimaced at them, "Plus this place is totally unprotected If I had been shot through this room earlier then no doubt this whole… place…" An idea enters Kakarot's head, and he begins to think to himself. "Surely Vegeta wouldn't mind getting me out of his hair for the rest of the mission, and it's not like they don't deserve to get an ironic death." Kakarot then smiled and said, "Yeah, this is on them. I'll try this strategy out." Having decided on a plan of action Kakarot goes Full Power and flies up the path of destruction he made earlier, heading straight for the Tank that knocked him all the way here.

The Tank had already seen him coming and was preparing another shot. Kakarot leaned to the farthest right but when the cannon fired, Kakarot quickly dashed left, dodging the blast while charging forward toward the tank. The Tank didn't have time to recharge and began to go full reverse using thrusters from all four corners of its lower body. Kakarot however quickly circled around it, blocking its retreat with all the strength he had in his body. Kakarot spoke through a stressed voice, "No way I'm losing to a pack of weaklings with false power!" Kakarot began to push it forward until it reached the entrance of the path it made with its first shot.

The Tank pulled all the stops, halting Kakarot's advance. Suddenly a voice comes from an intercom unit on the tank, "What choice do we have when we have monsters like you around. You go to planets and kill everyone there. And for what, to get paid? Do you get satisfaction from all the killing?" The voice belonged to Officer Galena who tried to distract Kakarot with a moral argument. Kakarot bit back, "Don't go throwing guilt my way, it won't work. I fight to challenge myself and to survive, civilians, bystanders, I don't care for them but it's part of the job."

Kakarot then said, "If a "monster's" job is to kill people then you should have worked on yourself to become a "monster killer", should have given me a good fight before putting me down." Kakarot then screamed out with even more strain in his voice, "Don't blame me for being strong, blame yourself for slacking off, relying on crutches to deal with your problems will only hold you back. It's your fault you stayed weak!" Veins began to pulse on Kakarot's face as his aura began to spike as he yelled out, "If you want to kill me then get stronger!" Kakarot suddenly began to overwhelm the thrusters which began to creak and burn out from the pressure of fighting against Kakarot.

Soon it lost the fight, and the Tank was pushed down the path it first made. Kakarot pushed it until he reached his destination. He stopped the Tank by a familiar room and thanks to its struggle against Kakarot, the thrusters were too busted to work properly. Kakarot jumped next to the cannon with his body next to the room he stopped it by. The cannon began to turn toward Kakarot, trying to push him away; however, Kakarot's strength proved superior as he held the cannon in place, facing up the wrecked hallway. Kakarot was actually standing on the hatch which he jammed with a simple stomp with his right foot. The soldiers now couldn't exit the tank even if they wanted to.

Kakarot looked into the room and as soon as he did, the soldiers began to panic and yell at him, "What are you doing?" Kakarot ignored them and began to think, "This next part of the plan could go badly, I'll need to get Raditz out." Kakarot grumbled, "But they trashed my damn Scouter… Guess I'll just yell at him, how far could he be?" Kakarot shrugged his shoulders and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Raditz, get the hell out if you know what's good for, ya!" All the way in the barracks Raditz was stomping on a dead Soldier while he held another by his throat, choking him to death. Suddenly he heard Kakarot's voice and was confused as to why he wasn't using his Scouter to communicate with him.

Raditz snapped the neck of the soldier, dropped him on the ground and attempted to contact Kakarot with his own Scouter only to realize it was impossible. He raised his voice angrily, "Did that idiot break his Scouter?" Raditz groaned while facepalming, he said to himself, "Why didn't he just come to me?" Raditz got a bad feeling and decided to do as Kakarot said, breaking out of the base. It helped that the Shield-men who were shielding the base had deactivated their barrier to help those inside. Kakarot waited a moment in order to give his brother time to escape. The soldiers and Officer inside began doing all they could to get out only for their efforts to be fruitless.

The inside of the Tank was just as sturdy as the outside and escape proved impossible. They struggled with the inevitability of it all for a moment before they resigned themselves, reasoning that they did all they could. Before the end came Galena reluctantly asked Kakarot a question, "Before you fire, I wanted to know… how did Commander Jade die?" Kakarot paused for a moment, lost in thought. He then said, "He closed his eyes and accepted his fate." Galena immediately raised his voice, "Like hell he gave up, don't lie to me." Kakarot bit back, "I ain't lying."

Kakarot started speaking in a quiet, solemn tone, "I don't understand either, he just closed his eyes, didn't even give me a heroic speech about someone stopping me one day." Kakarot couldn't understand the prospect that some people might just accept they are going to die. He may be reckless and thick headed, but he still wanted to survive. Someone just lying down and dying despite not doing everything in their power to prevent it was beyond him and it had made him feel strange emotions he wasn't comfortable with. Kakarot grew silent and Galena said in response, "If what you said is true then we're all dead. I guess I'll just take solace in the fact I'll see the Sergeant and the other guys on the other side."

Kakarot couldn't believe what he was hearing, the people he had been fighting to the death just five minutes ago were doing the same as Jade, accepting their fate. He didn't have the emotional energy to confront them on their decision and so he decided to finish the fight. Kakarot took an open palm and pointed it upward while looking like he was grasping an invisible object. Suddenly his hand began to be covered in a deep blue Ki orb that expanded to overtake his hand. Kakarot then yelled out while throwing the Ki blast into the room, "Let's get this over with!"

The second the Ki blast entered the room Kakarot let go of the cannon, jumped into the air, powered up to his max level and braced himself for the incoming explosion, crossing his arms directly over his chest. Meanwhile with Raditz, he made it outside, got some distance and then looked back at the base and right then it was enveloped in a massive red explosion which shook the surrounding forests, flinging trees and foliage into the air which seemed to be peeling off of the ground by the force of the blast. Raditz himself was exerting a lot of Ki just to keep himself from being blown away. After a minute the force of the explosion subsided and Raditz soon had enough control to look for his brother in the wreckage.

Raditz flew down to the crater and was surprised by the destruction, barely anything was left of the base. Some remnants of the building did survive but not enough to call it a building anymore. He said to himself while searching for Kakarot's Power Level, "That explosion was even bigger than the one Kakarot fired half an hour ago. Did he have enough Ki for another, if he could, why didn't he do it from the start?"
