Chapter 27
Running Through the Ranks
Surrounding Kakarot stood seven four-foot-tall alien creatures known collectively as Saibamen. Kakarot grimaced at the grinning monstrosities. They made constant high pitched raspy animalistic sounds which filled the arena. Aside from color, all of them were the same shape. They had large veiny heads which looked like roots with a noticeable crease running from between their eyes all the way to the back of their head. They were nose less and stood on two legs. Each limb had three clawed fingers, behaving like pinchers. Their ears were pointy, and they had sharp teeth. Kakarot recognized these creatures instantly, they originated from a forest world. They were quite vicious but that only made them more enticing.
King Cold had several hundred packs captured and experimented on in order to turn them into living weapons. This was before Freeza took over Cold's empire. Kakarot disliked these creatures because they were unpredictable. They would often attack their handler for seemingly no reason. This got so bad that only the strongest of the Freeza Empire were given them seeing how they only remained loyal when afraid of their handler. Kakarot recalled that his squad was only ever given them if the planet they were assigned was particularly troublesome. Kakarot remembered when they were first given a pack of them. Nappa planted them in the outskirts of a few particularly sturdy cities.
Their job was to soften the defenses of these cities while the squad took out a stronger target. What the squad didn't expect was for them to destroy the defenses and clear out the cities. It was a gruesome sight and to make it worse the unsupervised Saibamen grew so aggressive they attacked the squad when they checked up on their work. From that point on Vegeta made it a point to only use them as support where he can keep an eye on them and keep them on task. Unruly Saibamen were far more trouble than they were worth.
Still, Kakarot was surprised to find these multi-colored variants. Kakarot heard rumors about them, but he'd only ever worked with the green ones. Kakarot counted two green, two pink, one black, and two purple. Kakarot then muttered, "He really ain't holdin' out on me. Shoulda' guessed he'd throw Saibamen at me, but these colored ones are a surprise."
Kakarot pondered what his first move should be, "The green ones were always vicious but even I could handle one or two of em' back in the day." Kakarot's gaze drifted from Saibaman to Saibaman examining each one counting the colored ones, he asked himself. "What's the point of the colors? Can't be for camouflage, bright pinks and dark purples ain't gonna help with most planets, they stick out too much."
Kakarot pressed a button on his Scouter and read their power levels, "The standard are at 2,100. Pink and Black are at 2,500 and purple is at 2,500. They are much stronger than the ones they handed Vegeta. What were we gettin' back then? Hand me downs?"
Kakarot pushed the feeling of irritation to the back of his mind and dropped into a fighting stance and said, "Guess I'll test em' out."
Kakarot then said out loud, "Let's start with this!"
Kakarot threw a small volley of Ki blasts in the general area of the Saibamen. The blasts didn't hit any of them however, that was by design. The Saibamen scattered around in response to the blast. Kakarot thought to himself, "Their movements should tell me how they fight."
Kakarot closely examined the pack of seven leaps around the battlefield hopping from patch of dirt to patch of dirt, leaving claw marks all over the ground. If Kakarot hadn't been paying enough attention he would have been overwhelmed by the mere sight of these multi-colored blurs. It might have seemed at first glance that they were as fast as the Fukai-same but in actuality that was just their numbers creating the illusion of overwhelming speed. Kakarot saw that the Green Saibamen were keeping five feet from him.
The Pink were keeping fifteen feet while the purple ones were ten feet but were keeping to opposite sides of Kakarot. The Black Saibamen however was keeping to the very back of the pack trying it's best to blend in with the blurs of its pack mates. From this Kakarot deduced that Green were front line fighters, pink was ranged, and purple seemed to be preparing to do coordinated attacks given their positioning. Kakarot couldn't deduce the purpose of the black one, but he didn't have a good feeling about it. Just as Kakarot began to come to conclusions on his opponent's plan of attack, the Saibamen began their assault. The green Saibamen leaped for Kakarot as a pair only to abruptly stop in front of Kakarot and leap into the air. Right then a purple Saibaman charged at Kakarot exactly where the green ones jumped, aiming its left arm with open claws pointing towards Kakarot's chest. At the exact same time the other purple came at Kakarot from behind aiming a left slash at the back of Kakarot's neck.
Kakarot however, saw both attacks coming but not thanks to his Scouter. The fact he was surrounded by rapidly moving foes combined with the fact they were well coordinated made his Scouter unreliable. It could detect battle power coming from specific directions but given the multiple signatures crowding around Kakarot, it simply couldn't keep up with them. What didn't help was the fact this wasn't the latest model of Scouter, the likes of the Ginyu Force had Scouters which could handle this kind of hectic strategy. Luckily for Kakarot, his Ki reading technique picked up the slack. He felt the second purple Saibaman coming from behind him before it could get within three feet. Because of this Kakarot was able to block the front Saibaman's claw arm by throwing a strong right jab at its clawed fist halting its advance. Simultaneously Kakarot twisted his waist to his left and used his free left elbow to block the purple Saibaman behind him.
Kakarot took a step forward putting enough power into his punch to send the purple Saibaman in front of him flying ten feet back, though it managed to stop itself without taking any real damage. Right then the Saibaman behind him leaped backwards. Kakarot didn't have time to figure out why the one behind him retreated because he felt two battle powers closing in on him from above. It didn't take a genius to figure out who it belonged to. Kakarot leaped backwards dodging the two green Saibaman who leaped into the air prior to the purple pair's attacks. Kakarot then leaped backwards, higher into the air as the green Saibamen pursued him.
As Kakarot kept a few steps ahead of the green Saibamen, Vegeta raised an eyebrow at the previous exchange. Vegeta thought to himself, "How strange, he reacted to his rear attacker before his Scouter warned him. Was it blind luck or an unnatural reaction time?"
Raditz on the other hand thought to himself, "This must be that technique he told me about. To think an earth born technique could make our Scouters obsolete."
Nappa on the other hand was too busy cheering and yelling along with the rest of the soldiers. He hollered, "Yeah, that's it, keep the bastards moving! Don't let them get you, you crazy bastard!"
Vegeta groaned at having his thoughts interrupted while Raditz took a single step away from Nappa who was oblivious to his team's discomfort. Cui, who was standing near the squad, had an annoyed expression as well. Back with Kakarot, he was keeping a step ahead of the Saibaman and was using his other senses to keep track of the other enemies. Right when he felt an attack coming, the green Saibamen stopped their pursuit all of a sudden. Right then Kakarot stuck a handout which blocked a red Ki wave. Kakarot felt another attack coming below him. He looked down and saw a pink Saibaman firing off a volley of red Ki blasts. Kakarot deflected the barrage away from him with ease, Kakarot then counter-attacked by reflecting the Ki wave still being fired at him toward the pink Saibaman below him.
The pink Saibaman below Kakarot leaped backwards narrowly dodging the blast; however, before it could make another move it felt a large weight press on top of him which pushed it into the ground. Atop it Kakarot who was standing on top of the Saibaman pushing it into the ground with his right hand. Without giving it a moment to react, Kakarot hit it with a point-blank light purple Ki wave which killed it. After finishing that attack Kakarot immediately looked up and saw the other Pink Saibaman who was the one responsible for the Ki wave that hit him first.
The Saibaman looked displeased with one of its numbers getting killed. It retaliated by opening the middle crease of its head. Kakarot knew immediately what was about to happen because he's seen the aftermath of this attack before. Kakarot quickly dove to his right, narrowly dodging a stream of pink acid which melted the charred remains of its deceased comrade as well as the floor below. Kakarot made a quick comment while looking at the melted through floor, "Hell, if I hadn't moved then that would have been ugly."
Before Kakarot could launch a counterattack, the Pink Saibaman was suddenly struck clear through by a small purple Ki blast which went straight through the Saibaman's chest. It fell to the ground below; it had died in an instant. Kakarot, out of surprise, looked toward the owner of the blast only to see Freeza with an outstretched hand and a very displeased look. Apule immediately stuttered, "L-lord Freeza, why?"
Freeza ignored him and said to the other Saibamen, "That was punishment for damaging the arena." Freeza then gave the other Saibamen a passing glance. They were now visibly terrified of his gaze, he then said, "Refrain from using that ability again. I would be displeased if I had to scrap the whole building because of excessive acid burns."
Kakarot grimaced at Freeza before shaking his head and getting back into the fight. Kakarot thought to himself for a brief moment, "The pink ones are dead, so my next target is…"
Kakarot immediately dashed towards the green pair while yelling, "You two!"
The green Saibamen barely had time to react, before they could put up a defense. Kakarot punched the first one into the border wall of the bleachers. Kakarot then drop kicked the second one into the ground, killing it. Kakarot then said, "Four down, three to go."
Suddenly the purple pair launched at Kakarot and threw a flurry of claw strikes and kicks which kept Kakarot busy dodging and blocking the barrage. Kakarot questioned the point of the assault given the difference between his power and theirs. Suddenly a third individual jumped into the flurry. Kakarot was in the middle of saying, "I was wondering when it was gonna… wait, what?"
Kakarot was expecting the black Saibaman to finally jump in but instead it was the first green Saibaman he punched into a wall a half a minute ago. Kakarot grumbled just before leaping backwards to avoid being overwhelmed, "I guess I still haven't completely mastered Ki reading yet, I should have known that didn't finish it off."
This is when Kakarot detected the missing Saibaman and turned around only to be surprised again. Right when Kakarot turned around the black Saibaman jumped on him and grabbed onto his torso. A bear hug would ordinarily be a strange tactic, but Kakarot was familiar enough with them to know that he was in grave danger. Kakarot scowled as the black Saibaman gave him a toothy grin. Freeza began to laugh maniacally before he said, "Good, good, I wonder if this will leave a mark."
Kakarot knew he didn't have much time but instead of trying to break out of the grasp he instead squeezed his eyes shut. Freeza suddenly let out another laugh before frowning and said, "Have you accepted your fate, how dull."
Right then, in an instant the black Saibaman's body glowed bright before exploding, blinding the audience. Right before the explosion Vegeta raised an eyebrow and let out a, "Hmm?"
Then he and everyone else covered their eyes while cursing, Raditz immediately said, "I always hated those things!"
After a short moment the bright light faded and at the epicenter of the blast, smoke covered the center of the arena. Everyone watched with bated breath on what had become of Kakarot. Some with excitement in their eyes and a small number with anxious or grim looks. However, right then a yell was heard at the center of the smoke cloud. Accompanying it was a light purple aura which pushed the smoke to the edges of the arena revealing Kakarot who was still standing. Freeza suddenly blurted out, "What?"
Nappa yelled out, "Impossible!"
Vegeta let out a chuckle which caught Raditz's attention, "Did you see what happened?"
Vegeta didn't answer the question, instead he said, "It's not often that your brother impresses me."
Vegeta then answered the question without looking directly at Raditz, "I saw your brother create a barrier a split second before the explosion."
Nappa then said, "He'd have to be pretty damn fast to pull that stunt off."
Vegeta finished by adding, "It speaks to his experience, he's always been proficient with energy techniques."
Kakarot muttered to himself, "That was too close, I'm glad I already knew about that little trick. The biggest mistake someone can make in this situation would be to try n' force their way out. Even if I broke his arms to get out of his grasp, the explosion would have still hit me."
Kakarot's personal experience with the Saibaman gave him the opportunity to see that technique being used on someone else. From Kakarot's experience it's a terrifying last resort attack. The explosion is actually much more powerful than their max power level. With such a technique a Saibaman could kill someone double their battle power, it often only took one to kill a particularly strong foe. From this experience Kakarot knew that if he wasn't strong enough to break out of its grasp or fast enough to avoid getting grabbed in the first place then the best tactic, he could use was a protective barrier. Kakarot then said while patting down his armor, "Even still I feel a bit shaken, I don't want ta' go through that again."
Kakarot's armor was now a bit charred though it was still in working condition. Kakarot then looked at the surviving Saibamen and glared at them. He said, "I was holden' back to conserve my stamina but I think it would be best to get rid of you lot before you get any more bright ideas."
Right then Kakarot's aura disappeared and immediately after this he disappeared from view. Before the purple Saibamen could properly react, they felt a searing pain which spread starting at their back and ending with the rest of their bodies. Before they knew it, they were dead, vaporized by Kakarot who now stood behind firing off a Ki wave. The beam soon dissipated and there stood only one green Saibaman. The lone Saibaman stood there gawking at Kakarot who said, "You should be proud you lasted this long. However, the hell you say it, your "type" was clearly the weakest and yet you lasted longer than the others."
Kakarot then crouched into a more threatening fighting stance as he said, "I'll make this quick for your sake."
The last Saibaman instinctively leaped backwards but it was futile. Kakarot already reached him and kicked him into the air after which he disappeared and reappeared above the Saibaman. He then dug his elbow into it and rammed it into ground below creating a small crater. The Saibaman was dead, but Kakarot had something he wanted to do. Kakarot grabbed the Saibaman's leg and tossed the dead Saibaman at Freeza. Freeza glared at the body being thrown at him but before it could reach him or before any of his men could react to it, he fired a pair of red eye beams which turned the body into ash which floated to the ground. Freeza then glared at Kakarot waiting to hear what he had to say.
Kakarot didn't delay, "I recall asking you to send your actual men. Quit stalin', we both have more important things ta' do today."
Freeza scowls at Kakarot deeply, this is when Nappa finally asks, "Why does he keep taunting him? It's like he's begging Freeza to kill him."
Raditz crossed his arms and said, "It's because he is."
Nappa paid Raditz a brief glance before Vegeta adds, "He's grown soft. Whatever happened on that planet, it changed him. Now all he seems to want to do is die off while antagonizing Freeza. I'm almost jealous."
Nappa looked down at Kakarot and said, "I guess if you aren't afraid of dying then you don't have much to be afraid of."
Raditz let out a low, silent groan before thinking to himself, "This is all so Freeza only targets him. He's still afraid I'm still in his crosshairs. Brother, I hope you don't push him too far, Freeza is terrible. If he can't get satisfaction from tearing your body down, he might get creative."
Freeza grumbles to himself, "This is getting annoying, no one has ever shown me such disrespect outside my family."
Freeza let out an irritated sigh before saying, "Fine then I'll give you what you want."
Freeza then says, "Captain Mepo, please dispose of this trash."
The captain of the Royal Guard turns around and gives Freeza a salute and a single response, "Yes Lord Freeza!"
Right then he turned toward his men and said, "Come on men, Lord Freeza gave us an order!"
Raditz gave a quick comment, "He's skipping regular forces."
Vegeta added, "It just shows that Freeza is reaching the end of his patience."
All seven of Freeza's Royal Guard landed around Kakarot, surrounding him. Kakarot looked around, figuring out the power levels of his opponents. He detected two 2,000, a 2,800 and a 2,550. A 2,200, a 2,100 and lastly Captain Mepo was at 3,000. Kakarot grimaces at the sight which Captain Mepo noticed and said in response, "Have you realized the hopelessness of your situation? Perhaps you shouldn't have squandered the second chance Lord Freeza gave you."
Kakarot glanced at Captain Mepo who stood to his right, this is when another soldier added, "It's too late to beg for your life, Lord Freeza has entrusted us with your execution. It has been long overdue; your insubordination has earned you a savage death!"
Kakarot looked over toward the soldier with a power level of 2,800. However, the grimace he had earlier was replaced with a completely different expression. The soldier was confused by it which is when he said, "Wha-what's with that look?"
Kakarot then plainly said, "I'm bored."
The soldier stammered a surprised reply, "Y-your b-bored, what the hell do you mean?"
Kakarot's expression was indeed that of boredom or disappointment. He let out an exhausted sigh before looking at the other soldiers, giving all of them a look of disinterest. The level 2,550 suddenly said with confidence in his voice, "He's clearly bluffing, there's no way this runt seriously thinks we're not a threat."
Kakarot paid the level 2,550 soldier a glance before letting out a disappointed sigh. He then said out loud, "Is it possible that any of you are holding back?"
They looked at him unsure on how to answer, his words were confusing. Captain Mepo said, "We have been given a direct order from Lord Freeza. Why would we hold back?"
Kakarot let out one last sigh which got on the level 2,800's last nerve. The soldier raised his voice, "Why are you acting so disinterested? we're about to kill you, don't you care!"
Kakarot gave him an expression of annoyance with a hint of condescension. The soldier let out a frustrated groan before firing off a Ki wave.
However, by the time the blast reached him it was too late. Kakarot had already stopped and then deflected the wave away from him. Before the soldier who fired the wave could react to the deflection, Kakarot raised an open palm and fired a basic Ki blast which reached the soldier's head in under a second. The soldier's head was scorched, after which he fell to the ground. The others didn't need to check on the soldier's power level, common sense told them that he was already dead. Captain Mepo stammered a response, "Th-that's impossible! Y-your power l-level w-was only at-?!"
Kakarot finished for the Captain, "2,500? Or did you guess 2,600? There's another reason why I dispatched the Saibamen so quickly."
Captain Mepo said back, "Y-you were concealing your true power!?"
Kakarot then said with clear annoyance in his voice, "Obviously, you moron."
Kakarot let out an annoyed breath before briefly commenting, "Even his "Royal Guard" are nobodies."
He let out an exasperated sigh before placing a hand on the side of his head out of annoyance. Freeza let out a chuckle which Kakarot chose to ignore. Kakarot then looked at Captain Mepo and said, "You were right about one thing, my situation is hopeless."
After the Captain gave him a confused look, Kakarot continued, "I don't see myself making it out of here alive, nor do I plan on it."
Kakarot crossed his arms and said, "I'm perfectly fine with dyin' here, but I had hoped I would be given a little more respect than this."
A vein on Kakarot's head grew bigger as he raised his voice, angrily yelling at Freeza, "3,000 is really the best you can send at me? You know damn well I'm above them, you have everyone's power level recorded after every mission. it's how you know where we need to go for our missions and yet you saddle me with mediocre soldiers with inflated egos?!"
Freeza gave him a small smirk and then let out a small chuckle before saying, "Then dispose of them, if you want a challenge, you will work for it."
Kakarot let out an irritated grunt before mumbling, "Even guys he gave such big titles mean nothin' to him, huh?"
He then let out an irritated grunt and said, "Fine but you better make the next round interesting."
Captain Mepo gave Freeza a shocked expression accompanied with, "L-lord Freeza?!"
Freeza responded with a frown and a cold tone, "I have little use for a Royal Guard who are incapable of fulfilling my orders. Kill the Saiyan or die."
The Captain was stunned for a moment before saying, "Y-yes lord Freeza!"
The Captain yelled out, "Pincushion assault!"
Mepo as well as the rest of his squad ascended by a few feet before stretching out a single arm each toward Kakarot. Their fingers linked together and were pointed at Kakarot with their palms facing to the side, they supported this arm by gripping it with their free hand. Kakarot watched as their arms began to be covered by a thick yellow Ki. Right then every single one of them fired off a thin yellow beam with a needle point at the head of it. Kakarot flew straight upward dodging the beam which stuck to the ground before dissolving into the air. Kakarot quietly muttered, "A piercin' attack."
Kakarot now knew the importance of their positioning, if they fired while standing around him like they did before then if he dodged, they could get caught in the crossfire. Kakarot flew back down in response, all of them looking up at him and firing another set of Ki Spears, though a single spear grazed his left cheek leaving a clean cut. After this Kakarot said to himself, "Despite the power difference it can still breach my defenses. I'd better take care of this fast, one wrong move and I'll get filled with holes."
Kakarot changed his trajectory dashing for one of the soldiers with a power level of 2,000. He fired a spear at him, but Kakarot narrowly evaded it while getting within arm's reach of him. The others were about to fire when Captain Mepo yelled, "Hold your fire!"
They did as instruct which Kakarot took note of, confirming to him that they were worried about friendly fire. Kakarot prepared a right hook and in response the soldier raised his arms to block it. Kakarot then muttered to himself, "Here he comes."
Suddenly the second level 2,000 put Kakarot into a full nelson before yelling, "Now!"
The first level 2,000 had a look of satisfaction on his face as he raised an arm toward Kakarot preparing another Ki Spear. Kakarot however surprised him with a smile. Kakarot without much effort Kakarot turned himself and the man who grabbed him around. Now the first soldier was aiming toward his allies back causing him to hesitate. Kakarot then said in a light tone, "You shoulda had someone stronger grab me."
Kakarot suddenly dashed backwards at a blinding speed slamming the soldier grabbing him into the one trying to shoot him. Kakarot slammed both soldiers into the stadium behind him. The soldiers in the audience dashed away from their seats just in time to avoid Kakarot hitting them. The two level 2,000's on the other hand went limp having died via the impact. Kakarot hovered higher into the air while saying, "That's three down, four to go."
Captain Mepo cursed before saying, "Surround him, we'll overwhelm him with a barrage!"
Kakarot charged at them only for them to meet his charge only to stop a few feet from him. He soon found he had been encircled by the surviving Royal Guard. They then fired a barrage of Ki blasts at him from all sides. Kakarot was soon covered in smoke and explosions. However, in the middle of the assault Kakarot charged through one guard's barrage hitting him with an elbow to his face. The blow stunned the level 2,200 which is when Kakarot grabbed his left leg and swung him in a circle into the fire of the other guards who hadn't halted their barrage.
By the time they realized they were shooting their own ally and stopped their barrage Kakarot flew above them and fired off two light purple Ki waves at the level 2,550 and the level 2,100. They didn't have time to dodge which led to both of them getting hit. All but Captain Mepo was still in the air, the others fell to the ground, their bodies charred by the previous attacks. Kakarot floated down to a visibly unnerved Mepo. He looked at his dead comrades before glancing at Freeza who gave him a bored expression. He then said to himself, "The Royal Guard… we served for many years only to…to…"
He paused as he felt his throat dry up before swallowing and continuing his sentence, "Only to be wiped out by one measly monkey."
Venom dripped from Mepo's voice upon saying the word "monkey" but Kakarot's reaction was mundane. He just let out an exasperated sigh. Normally hearing this word would anger him but the display in front of him was so pathetic he couldn' take the insult seriously. Kakarot plainly said, "Don't bother feelin' like this is a fall from grace. From what Freeza said it's clear he didn't take yer' little group seriously."
Suddenly Mepo yelled out while thrusting his hand forward firing off a Ki Spear, "What would you know?!"
Despite the distance between the two, Kakarot managed to catch the spear with one hand. He spoke while holding the spear in his hand, "Ya need to be honest with yer'self. If Freeza really wanted a "Royal Guard" then why did he select such weak members?"
Mepo flinched at the response, but Kakarot continued anyway, "Surely he would a' enlisted the best of his men for something with such a glamorous name. Why cap it at a power level of 3,000? If Freeza really wanted a group to do his dirty work, he'd at least recruit that bozo, Cui."
Vegeta let out a short snicker at the insult of which Cui repeated the word, "bozo.". Mepo tried to come up with a response, but he couldn't come up with an argument. He slumped his shoulders in defeat, Kakarot in response let out a disgruntled groan. At this point Kakarot had lost interest in fighting him, he already knew he wasn't strong enough to challenge him in any way. What's more he felt sorry for him, he honestly thought Freeza held value in him and his allies. Kakarot knew after detecting their Power Levels that his group was just a sad distraction for him. Why would Freeza even need such a group when he had the Ginyu Force, even his bodyguards were much stronger than this group. Kakarot himself once thought that Freeza at least valued his squad. He might not have liked him, but he could respect that he recognized the Saiyans as useful. He could easily sympathize with Mepo despite the current situation.
The former Captain Mepo finally said, "Fine then, just finish it."
Mepo knew the consequences of disappointing Freeza and that he was outclassed by Kakarot, there wasn't a point in continuing. Kakarot flinched at the response, it reminded him too much of another warrior he fought before. Before Kakarot could even raise a hand to finish the fight however, a small purple beam went right through Mepo's chest. He dropped to the ground, Kakarot jerked his body toward the killer and saw Freeza who had a single finger pointed at where Mepo used to be floating. He immediately said, "What a detestable display."
Freeza then thought to himself while dropping his hand to his side, "I may have formed that group on a whim but to have the captain give up so easily."
Freeza glared at Mepo's dead body in disgust. He then thought to himself, "Still, I underestimated the Saiyan, to think his power would rise this sharply in such a short amount of time. Worse yet he has barely taken any damage, this is getting tedious. Enough games, this next round will break him."
Kakarot restrained a yell, knowing full well that raising a fuss wouldn't do him any good. He instead floated down to the ground below and crossed his arms. Freeza then flashed a smirk as an idea popped into his head while his eyes traced the bleachers. Freeza then spoke into his mic and said with a higher tone, "This next round will be more interactive. The soldier who kills this Saiyan will be rewarded a substantial promotion and be gifted any planet within my territory!"
As the crowd erupted in cheers Vegeta and the other Saiyans had dark looks appear on their faces. Vegeta's gaze shifted around the arena before resting on Cui who was popping his knuckles in preparation for a fight. Kakarot in the arena grimaced at the crowd as they grew excited. Kakarot muttered, "So that's his move, he wants ta' overwhelm me with numbers."
Kakarot however, is a bit confused by this tactic, "But why? I've already skimmed over the crowd; there's only a few who could beat me on their own. Why give out a reward, normally he'd just order them to do it?"
Kakarot's thoughts are interrupted when he feels a familiar piercing pain in his left thigh. He flinches and grips his leg and looks at the source. He didn't need to confirm it, he's felt and seen this attack before, twice today in fact. He sees Freeza grinning at him, Kakarot refuses to give him the satisfaction of getting an outburst out of him.
Freeza then said, "There, I've made this round more "interesting"."
Kakarot clenched his jaw in anger at the statement but refused to say anything. He thought to himself, "So he wants to force me into dire straits while he throws a ton of bastards at me."
Kakarot uses Ki to float a foot above the floor he was standing on in order to compensate for his injured leg. He got into a fighting stance and waited for the "volunteers" to come at him. Vegeta saw as some members of the audience began to jump from their bleachers into the arena. Cui began to walk away when Vegeta suddenly spoke to him without looking at him, "Isn't he beneath you?"
Cui scoffed and said, "A promotion is a promotion, I don't care about his battle power."
Just as Cui was about to continue walking Vegeta immediately said, "What if you could kill two birds with one stone."
Cui looked back at him with a raised eyebrow and asked, "What are you trying to tell me?"
Vegeta concealed a chuckle before turning halfway to Cui and then speaking to him as he turned his head towards him, "The fight would be uninteresting if you jumped in, you're too strong. After this event we'll settle this rivalry and if you win, I'll personally ask Freeza to give you a promotion."
Cui was about to laugh off the deal but stopped himself when he began to seriously consider what Vegeta was offering. "Sure, I could beat Vegeta, but on the off chance I lose then Vegeta will hold it over me forever. But finally getting to knock that smug look off his face is rewarding in and of itself."
Vegeta flashed an arrogant smile before turning away from Cui and saying, "Never mind, you're clearly too scared of an actual fight."
Cui flinched upon hearing this, blurting out, "Wh-what did you say?"
Vegeta then waved Cui off before saying, "Go on, I was just wasting my breath. There's no point in making deals with cowards anyway."
Nappa suddenly turned to Cui with a cocky grin and said, "It's for the best, it's not like you're a match for Vegeta anyway. Might as well go after the small fry downstairs."
Cui suddenly raised his voice and said, "Oh, like hell I'd lose to the likes of you! Fine then, I'll sit this one out but when we finally settle this, you'd better keep your word!"
Vegeta grin widened in response to hearing this and he said in reply, "It's a deal then."
Vegeta then took a few steps forward before stopping in front of the glass wall in front of him. He then placed a hand on it and after a moment the wall shattered catching the attention of those near him and Freeza who glanced at the wall. Right then Vegeta said, "This way is quicker."
After this those wanting to challenge Kakarot flew through it while thanking him for the shortcut. Freeza looked up to discern what Vegeta was thinking with that stunt. It's when he saw a smirk on his face that Freeza returned the smirk before thinking to himself, "Enjoying the show are you, Vegeta? I suppose having this buffoon as a part of your squad must make this show quite the enjoyable one."
Nappa and Raditz joined him as they looked down at Kakarot in the midst of battle. Kakarot throws a right hook, knocking a soldier clear through a crowd while ducking under a kick. Kakarot grabbed this leg and swung the vulnerable soldier in a circle, hitting a few whiles forcing a few others to take a step back to avoid the swinging soldier. Kakarot didn't have time to carefully gauge each of his opponents' battle power so he relied on instinct to gauge how hard he should be hitting. Because of this Kakarot wasn't pulling his punches. Due to his lack of restraint Kakarot was finishing opponents in one or occasionally two hits. Unfortunately, this display didn't dissuade others from jumping in. The numbers advantage was making up for the power difference.
Kakarot let go of the soldier he was swinging in circles, sending him crashing through several others. Kakarot immediately flew into the air dodging several Ki blasts. The barrage followed him which he began deflecting with both of his hands, swiping the blasts away from him. While he was busy deflecting blasts an opponent appeared above him and slammed their elbow into his back. It didn't do any real damage, but it did halt his ascension. The blasts began to overwhelm him forcing him to block. It's when some blasts began hitting his injured leg that he began to wince and groan from the pain. Soon a majority of the soldiers in the arena began to dogpile him. Kakarot soon found himself pinned to the ground as the weight on top of him began to get overwhelming. Kakarot finally had enough, with a furious look on his face he yelled out while pushing his aura outwards.
A light purple aura appeared on his body which expanded while throwing everyone on top of him away. Kakarot managed to get back onto his feet, though his left leg was limping. He was still surrounded which is when they all began hitting him with an endless barrage of Ki blasts from all sides. Kakarot brought up his defenses to block the barrage which is when he thought to himself, "Damn, this is a bit much. I don't wanna spend too much but it looks like I ain't got a choice!"
Kakarot suddenly threw his arms apart while screaming at the top of his lungs. Suddenly his aura burst into a Super Explosive Wave enveloping the whole arena in a massive explosion which swallowed up all of the soldiers around him. Smoke filled the stadium after the blast dissipated, obscuring the arena. Freeza glared at the smoke-filled arena muttering, "This is getting ridiculous."
With a single swipe with his right hand the smoke was blown away by a shockwave caused by this single motion. As the smoke thinned and was pushed upward there stood Kakarot who was still breathing. The ground was scorched with no signs of his opponents, making it clear what happened to them. Freeza waited a moment as he scanned the surviving audience. There was a sizable chunk still present and yet they decided against challenging Kakarot despite the rewards offered by Freeza. Kakarot let out a few heavy breaths while thinking to himself, "Damn, that took a lot of Ki, at least no one else is jumpin' in."
Kakarot's armor was now in a poor state. His gloves were in such a poor state, he discarded them. The left shoulder and left upper chest area was destroyed. (think Bardock's damaged armor but only in regard to the armored jacket) The blue undersuit was in pieces, only barely staying together. While the left leg of the undersuit has several tears streaking down the leg sleeve, everything below his right knee was gone aside from his boots which look several times more worn than they did at the start of this ordeal. Lastly his Scouter got destroyed during that last scuffle.
Kakarot gave himself a moment to catch his breath before looking up at Freeza who met his gaze. Freeza's expression was a simple frown. He thought to himself, "He's running low on stamina and yet he still has that defiant look on his face."
Freeza stared at Kakarot for a few more seconds before letting out a sigh and finally said, "This is the final round, Zarbon…"
Freeza looked at Zarbon who was surprised at first before replying back, "Yes, Lord Freeza."
Freeza then said, "Crush him, I've grown tired of his antics, make it painful."
Zarbon gave Freeza a stern look before saying back, "I'll see it done my Lord."
Zarbon then gave Freeza a quick salute before floated down to the arena, landing a few feet away from him. He gave him a confident smile before saying, "It's time, Saiyan. Your survival up until now was only by luck. No miracle will save you from me."
Kakarot gave Zarbon a grim yet tired smile before saying, "Oh, I know I don't stand a chance against you. Even Vegeta wouldn't be a match for you."
Zarbon let out a chuckle before saying, "Do you plan to beg then? Or perhaps you're hoping I'll make your death painless if you pay me a couple or two?"
He then let out a short laugh and said, "Whatever the case may be it's pointless. Lord Freeza's orders are absolute, if you had been as docile as the rest of your pathetic species then perhaps this all could have been avoided."
Kakarot scoffed while saying, "Don't flatter yourself, I've been ready ta' die for a long while now. What matters to me is how I die and if it's against someone who could beat Vegeta without breakin' a sweat then I think that would be a fine death."
Kakarot then let out a chuckle before saying, "Also, no proper Saiyan would willingly bow to the likes of Freeza. Don't mistake the Saiyans of the past for the prideless bastards who served him before."
Kakarot then got into a fighting stance while saying, "Even if I don't stand a chance, I'll still give you all I got."
Zarbon rolled his eyes and let out a breath before barely raising his arms. Kakarot then muttered to himself, "Sorry Chi, it was an impossible promise after all."
Kakarot staring down someone many times stronger than him prepares himself for what he sees as his final battle.
Author's Notes: Thank you for reading, this chapter was a bit rough for me to go through since I was dying to do this fight but here we are. Also, fun fact the different colored Saibamen apparently have unique names with puns attached to them. (Tennaman is one apparently) However, calling them those names would be very hard to keep track of, so going by color seemed much easier. If you want to, please leave a review for the chapter to let me know how you feel about it so far. Onto the power levels:
