Chapter 32
Saiyan Motivation

Several months have passed since Kakarot officially began training under Kami and Master Roshi. Currently Kakarot is in the middle of mastering a new technique. Kakarot was in his Turtle Hermit Gi with the weighted additions Kami added although his orange shirt was removed, leaving only his weighted undershirt. He was sitting next to the center building under one of the palm trees, covered by shade. Kakarot had a Scouter sitting next to him, but it was off. Kakarot disliked having it around, but he needed to know if Vegeta called, if wanted to keep tabs on him just in case he decided he wanted to come to Earth for whatever reason. He was meditating, keeping his eyes closed, his feet crossed, and his hands were upside down but connected in a circle hand gesture.

He didn't move an inch, a butterfly flew by his face, landing on the side of his head before waiting a moment before flying away. After a long moment Krillin suddenly dashes from the entrance and fires a single Ki blast aimed at Kakarot's head. Without looking Kakarot moves his head to the side, narrowly dodging the attack. Instead of counterattacking Kakarot returns his head to its previous position. Krillin lands and then leaps into the air and seemingly disappears. After another moment Chiaotzu appears to Kakarot's far left. He uses his telekinesis to throw four rocks at an incredible speed. They are partially lit on fire as they fly towards Kakarot's left flank.

This time Kakarot swiftly but in a calculated manner moves his chest front to back dodging each rock. He then returns to his previous position, acting as he was never attacked in the first place. Chiaotzu disappears just like Krillin did before. After another long moment, this time Tien appears twenty feet in front of Kakarot. He closes the distance instantly and throws a barrage of jabs aiming for Kakarot's head and chest. Kakarot swiftly and easily dodges each individual blow, narrowly dodging them by a hair. Tien finished the failed combo by thrusting his elbow toward Kakarot's stomach. This time Kakarot deflected the blow with his left hand, redirecting the elbow to his right while sending Tien diving in that direction.

Tien placed his hands forward, catching the ground and then doing a handstand before pushing himself upward doing a front flip and landing on the ground before turning around and aiming an index finger. He stopped as he saw Kakarot had quickly returned to his previous position, continuing to meditate. He put his hand down after which an old voice was heard nearby, "Good. The exercise has ended."

Right then Krillin and Chiaotzu appeared several feet to Tien's right. Kakarot opened his eyes and stood up before picking up his Scouter, putting it inside his blue undershirt. He then left his meditating pose. Kami then exited the center building and approached his students. He then says to Kakarot, "You seem to have mastered the technique."

Kakarot then says, "I can now detect Ki even when my eyes are closed, I can even feel those around me moving from brief motions they made in the air."

Kami said back, "Meditation is good for centering the mind and improving focus. You have begun to detect things you couldn't before because you simply were not focusing enough."

He then said, "This is a great feat considering you struggled with meditation at first."

Kakarot said in reply, "I was restless, I'd rather be doin' exercises' than sittin' and doin' nothin'. But now I think I've gotten the hang of it."

Kakarot paid the other students a passing glance. Krillin waved, Chiaotzu gave him a blank stare while Tien and him shared a stern stare. However, Tien then said, "Good job."

He then walked away to do some training of his own. Kakarot could tell he was making progress with Tien and Krillin, but he didn't interact with Chiaotzu much so he wasn't sure about him. Kami walked over to the edge of the lookout and looked at something in the far distance. Kakarot has since learned that Kami as God of Earth had the ability to see great distances. He's able to watch over the people below as if he was there himself. Kakarot came to his side after which Kami finally said, "They have found the last ball.

Kakarot crossed his arms and had an excited look on his face. Kami asked, "What do you plan to do?"

Kakarot said back, "I wanna make the wish."

Kami looked at him with a neutral expression and said, "Is there a reason beyond removing this guilt you feel?"

Kakarot looked at him with a smile and said, "Yes."

He looked down below and said while clenching his fists, "I thought about this for a long time but I think I finally have a wish that can do more than just revive the people here."

Kakarot gave Kami a hopeful glance and said, "This wish will help people beyond this planet, it will do a lot of good."

Kami thought about it for a moment before smiling and saying, "As you wish, you may go but return afterwards. Your training isn't finished yet, I have yet to show you your greatest challenge yet."

He then paused and said, "This one might interest you greatly."

Kakarot jumped forward, began to float and was about to fly off when he stopped himself and turned to Kami. He immediately asked, "Before I go, can ya raise my weights by five?"

Kami blinked at the request before saying, "If I do, your total weight will be 250."

Kakarot smiled and said, "Well yeah, that's why I'm askin'."

Kami chuckled before saying, "Very well."

He then pointed an index finger at Kakarot and after a flash of light covered his body, his clothes were restored, including his orange over-shirt but this time weighed more. Kakarot looked at his arms and lower body before saying in a slightly dejected tone, "That should work fer' now."

He then flew off leaving Kami who was scratching the back of his head as he said, "Saiyans, they are so hard to please."

He then said, "Do you plan to go after him?"

Tien stood to his left with his arms crossed and said, "No, I trust he'll fulfill his promise."

Kami smiled in response to that. Some time later Chichi and Bulma are standing behind the Capsule Corp building at night. Bulma had put the Dragon Balls into a pile with looks of apprehension on their face as they considered their wish. They needed to be careful with the wording to make sure the people they wanted revived would get revived. However, they had a dilemma, they wanted to revive everyone killed by Raditz but Raditz never killed Yamcha. If they didn't revive both this time around then there's a good chance someone wasn't ever going to be revived due to the time limit on revival with the Dragon Balls.

Right then Chichi looked into the air and smiled, Bulma followed her gaze but frowned instead as they saw Kakarot come into view, landing next to them. Chichi waved at him while Bulma shifted herself to the opposite side of Chichi with an uneasy expression on her face. Kakarot immediately noted a change in physique about Chichi. She was much leaner and had the slightest amount of muscle on her body. Kakarot smiled and said, "Guess ya, finished yer' trainin' with Korin."

Chichi paused for a second and smiled while flexing her right arm. She said, "It took me two days, but he said I have some room to improve!"

Kakarot smiled at the response but their conversation was cut short by Bulma who asked, "Are you here for the balls?"

Kakarot nodded and said, "You two are havin' trouble figuring out a wish aren't ya?"

Bulma looked dejectedly on the ground as she explained, "There's a time limit on when you can revive people. If two years have passed then you won't come back."

Chichi added to the explanation, "It's almost been a year for both the people Raditz killed and Yamcha. The Dragon balls need a year after use to reactivate. We haven't thought of a way to revive both, if we leave one of them out then we can't reverse the damage later."

Kakarot then said, "I know how to."

Bulma however was immediately against the idea, giving him a doubt filled expression. Chichi immediately said, "Come on Bulma, let's hear him out."

Bulma said back, "Can we trust you will make this wish? You aren't lying, are you?"

Kakarot frowned at the question but took in a deep breath before saying, "If I did then Kami wouldn't continue my training, and I wouldn't be able to keep my promise to Tien either."

Bulma's expression softened after which Chichi said, "Let's at least hear what the wish is, ok?"

Bulma thought for a moment and said, "Alright, what's the wish?"

Kakarot smiled and thoroughly explained the wish, Bulma and Chichi looked at each other with wide eyes expressions. Bulma asked, "Will that really work?"

Kakarot then said, "It will."

Chichi then said, "It does make sense to work, should we try it."

Bulma gave a hesitant nod before she finally called on the Dragon. It appears the same as before and stairs down at the trio and asks in a booming voice, "You, who has summoned me, state your wish!"

Kakarot closed his eyes, collected his thoughts and finally said after opening his eyes again, "Shenron, revive everyone who died to a Space Alien in the last two years!"

The Dragon's Eyes glowed red for a moment before he finally stated, "It is done, farewell until next time!"

Bulma and Chichi's eyes widen with delight while Kakarot grins confidently as the Dragon. Bulma asks, "Do you think It worked for Yamcha?"

Kakarot spoke in a reassuring tone, "Piccolo by all rights is an alien, same as Kami. Even if it somehow counted me for his death, I'm an alien too. He should be alive right now."

Chichi then said, "We can talk to Baba tomorrow about getting in contact with him."

Bulma nodded and rushed inside to see if the news had caught wind of the wishes' effects. Chichi turns to Kakarot and asks, "Why did you specify two years, beyond that being the time limit, I mean."

Kakarot smiled and said, "It will fix a mistake I made a couple months ago."

Meanwhile deep in space on a unique black colored planet, a Freeza Empire expedition was in the middle of making a base when suddenly several small flashes of light appeared around them. Once the light dissipated in its place stood hair-covered individuals wearing military armor. The Freeza soldiers looked in shock at them when one of the soldiers said, "W-wait that's impossible, you should all be d-dead!"

Among the newly revived Prunians, one stood out while saying, "That may be so but it seems a miracle has smiled upon Prune."

The newly revived Commander Jade dashed towards the soldier and knocked him into an almost complete building, knocking it down. He then said, "Together, defenders of Prune, we must take back our planet from these invaders!"

The newly revived Prune population let out a mighty war cry as they began their long awaited counter attack. On another part of the galaxy, Freeza was traveling to another world with his spaceship when he began getting more reports of previously conquered planets suddenly getting overwhelmed by inhabitants who should have already been exterminated. Freeza read a list to himself, "Guanda, Penota, Vex'tul, Prune…"

Freeza paused and thought to himself, "At first I believed these were pockets of resistance who managed to conceal themselves up until now… but this world… Prune…"

Freeza recalled that the Saiyans had wiped it out, he even had a survey done on it. There were indeed no survivors and yet not only pockets of resistance have formed but it would seem the whole population… Freeza stopped there he thought to himself, "This isn't simply a pocket of the population which survived, this is the entire population."

Freeza's eyes squinted in suspicion as he thought more on the issue, "Could they all have spontaneously been resurrected? Is that even possible?"

A thought occurred to him, "I have heard stories of mysterious artifacts that have the ability to grant powerful wishes, however I had thought they were mere myths… but…"

A smile appeared on Freeza's face as he raised his voice in order to give his men new orders, "Change our destination, return to Freeza Planet 598."

They did as told and just as the ship began changing direction he said to himself in a low tone, "If these artifacts exist then I could have more to gain than lose. I need to focus on this lead."

Back on Prune, Commander Jade and his nearby forces have finished wiping out the group building on their planet. Jade looked down on a dead Freeza Soldier and noted something, "This isn't the same species as the ones who came first."

He looked into the air and said, "I wonder where those three are now?"

Back with Kakarot and Chichi, Kakarot closes his eyes and feels for Ki in areas where there were previously none. Kakarot smiled and said, "They're there, I feel it."

Chichi smiled after which Chichi yelled inside of Capsule Corp, "We're gonna check Bulma, I'll be right back."

Bulma yelled back, "A-alright see you then!"

Kakarot and Chichi flew off in a familiar direction and half an hour later they were floating about a familiar farming village which was now full of life. They were very confused but alive nonetheless. Kakarot and Chichi smiled and laughed before giving each other a hug and spinning in a full circle. They immediately separated as Kakarot said, "I'd better tell the other, see ya tonight."

Chichi said back while waving, "You too!"

Shortly after this Kakarot returned to Kami's Lookout where Kami and Tien were present. Kami congratulated Kakarot after which Kakarot and Tien shared a passing glance. Kame then said, "Allow me to show you the next phase of your training, I will only show you today but tomorrow you will spend a day in a new location."

Kakarot was nervous about the sound of that but was also excited by the sound of a new challenge. Kakarot frowned at himself before shaking himself, thinking to himself, "Don't get carried away, focus."

Meanwhile with Yamcha several hours after being revived, he was currently on a surprisingly small green world. It had several apple trees, a single road that went across the whole world and lastly there was a circular yellow house and a garage near it. Yamcha does three consecutive backflips before throwing out an elbow strike. He then goes into his signature "Wolf Fang Fist" before dashing to the side and throwing out a barrage of kicks with one leg.

Yamcha then says to himself, "Finally, it took longer than it needed to but now I barely feel it!"

Right then a short, round blue alien looking individual with antennas popping out of the top of his head as well as a shorter, blue pair hanging on the sides of his face. He walked outside while stretching from his afternoon nap. He wore a black robe with long shoulders and a red undershirt. He also wore black glasses and white lace less shoes. He was in the middle of sipping some hot chocolate, "Looks like you're hard at work."

He was then about to say, "I guess we can move on to techn-"

Something shocked him so bad he spit out his hot chocolate. He suddenly yelled out, "When did this happen?"

Yamcha stopped and gave King Kai a confused look before asking, "What's up King Kai, when did what happen?"

King Kai pointed at Yamcha and said, "Above your head boy! Where's your halo!"

Yamcha looked up and blankly stared at nothing before looking back at King Kai and smiling, "I-I'm alive! Yes, the guys must have wished me back!"

King Kai frowned and said, "Aww, and I was just about to teach you the Kaio-"

King Kai gave up on the thought which tugged at Yamcha's heart strings. He then said, "Hey, hey, don't feel down! You did a lot for me already."

He then clapped his hands and said, "You know what, I'll go home tomorrow, tonight I'll make you something for dinner, late dinner but still."

He then frowned and said, "We'd better give Bulma a call at some point though."

King Kai said, "We can do that in the morning too, I'm starved."

Yamcha arched an eyebrow before saying, "You just got up, and you are already craving lunch. Alright I'll get to it, after a shower."

At the exact same time, it was night in the living world and Kakarot and Chichi were getting to bed. Kakarot had officially moved into Chichi's since they got along. They crawled into their respective beds, they both slept in the same room but Chichi made room for a second bed on the opposite end of the room. It was a calm night, Chichi was fast asleep but Kakarot was restless. He thought to himself, "That void…"

Whatever Kami showed him freaked him out, his thoughts were going to delve into it deeper when he suddenly heard a familiar peeping sound. Kakarot shot his head up and even Chichi woke up from the noise. Chichi asked while powering through a yawn, "W-wha-what was that?"

A dead serious expression popped onto Kakarot's face as he got up and went for his Scouter which was placed on a shelf. Kakarot said, "Give me a sec."

Kakarot put the Scouter on but instead of a call, like he was expecting he received a rather lengthy message. His face turned from serious to white as a ghost to furious. By the time he finished reading it he began to angrily mutter, "That… conniving…treacherous…scumbag!"

Kakarot then crushed the Scouter in his hand making Chichi jump out of surprise and fright. Chichi got up while asking, "What's wrong, why did you do that?"

Chichi powered through another yawn, this is when Kakarot quickly turned to her and quickly said, "We need to be fast, contact Bulma and Baba. Tell them to meet up at Kami's Lookout."

Chichi, now worried, gave him a fearful expression as she asked, "W-whats going on?"

Kakarot spoke with urgency in his voice, "I don't have time to explain, I'll tell everyone everything when they all get to Kami's place!"

Chichi nodded, got dressed and headed to Capsule Corp. She believed picking Bulma up there was faster than calling her. While Kakarot headed elsewhere, meanwhile with Krillin who was just finishing his late-night exercises. He was about to go inside when he stopped upon feeling Kakarot's Ki getting closer. He muttered, "What could he want at this hour."

Kakarot arrived with a grim look on his face after which Krillin's own expression shifted to be more serious. Kakarot then said, "I'll explain at Kami's place, get Tien and Chiaotzu."

Krillin immediately said, "Alright."

After which he gave them, a call mentioning that it was urgent. He then grabbed Roshi and Kakarot, Krillin and Roshi flew to Kami's Lookout. Once there Kami asked, "Is something wrong?"

Kakarot immediately said, "I'll explain everything when everyone gets here."

After this Kakarot took out his Scouter and put it on. He read the message one more time before taking the Scouter off and crushing it with his hand. It sparked and fizzled before being reduced to tiny bits. He then tossed the trashed Scouter to the side. Krillin looked even more worried, now he knew this involved either Freeza's forces or his former companions. After half an hour everyone Kakarot wanted to be here arrived including Baba who was quite upset with having been dragged here in the dead of night. Baba complained, "You had better have a darn good reason you got me out here, I'm losing beauty sleep!"

Kakarot's expression didn't change, among his new allies, Chichi, Bulma and Chiaotzu had worried expressions. Krillin and Tien had stern expressions while Kami and Popo were keeping their composure. With everyone here Kakarot finally got to explaining what he brought everyone out here for. "I hate to say it but I've been tricked, my former squad is heading this way."

Everyone's expressions shifted to a more dramatic look after which Bulma suddenly said, "W-why are they coming, to conquer the planet?"

Roshi then asked, "Did this Freeza fellow find out you were alive?"

Kakarot replied with, "No."

He then started talking about his Scouter, "I should have realized Vegeta wasn't doin' me a favor when he helped me escape."

Kakarot pointed at the pieces of scrap metal on the ground and said, "He gave me that Scouter, not so he could call for my help with overthrowing Freeza. Should a' realized then that he did something to it. Vegeta's way too cunning to keep me in his back pocket just for backup."

He then said, "He bugged it so he could listen in to our conversations."

Bulma suddenly said, "Didn't he say he made it n-non-traceable."

Kakarot said back, "For Freeza, Freeza can't eavesdrop on our conversations, but Vegeta made it to where he could, even without it being activated."

Suddenly Chichi's face turns white as she realizes what Kakarot is alluding to she stutters while saying, "D-don't tell me, h-he knows-?"

Kakarot finished her question by saying, "Yes, he knows about the Dragon balls. He was probably eavesdropping with the Scouter while it was in my shirt."

Everyone's expression twists to a look of shock, Krillin immediately steps forward and says, "What could he want with them?"

Kakarot then says, "He could make a few wishes, like conceal his movements from Freeza or maybe it could grant him power."

Roshi suddenly said, "No, as far as I know the Dragon can only do that under very specific circumstances."

Kami confirmed this saying, "That's correct, it can only bring forth power under specific circumstances. Like losing power with age and having your youth restored. The set I made doesn't have the first function."

Tien suddenly said, "It's immortality."

Everyone shoots a look at Tien who then says, "Immortality should be within the Dragons power. If this "Vegeta" has immortality under his belt, then he would be impossible to kill."

Kakarot nodded and said, "With immortality Vegeta would just have to wear down Freeza, he'd be unstoppable."

Chiaotzu floats closer to Kakarot and asks, "W-what did the message say exactly?"

Kakarot says, "My brother basically sent me a message, sayin' that Vegeta and Nappa force him to talk. He said all three of 'em were comin' this way in about a year, lastly he said be prepared."

Chiaotzu noted that that last one was ominous. Chichi immediately asked, "Did he mean to be prepared to conquer earth?"

Kakarot shook his head, crossed his arms and knitted his eyebrows, "No, be prepared to be punished."

Everyone grows silent, Kakarot is aware of the question floating in the air, so he answers it unprompted, "I kept the existence of the Dragon Balls hidden from Vegeta. He ain't gonna be happy about that no matter what he thinks my reasoning was."

Kakarot then said while placing his arms to his side while balling them into fists, "Regardless of whether he plans to kill or maim me, I ain't letting him do as he pleases. I ain't standing around while he and the others due to this world what we did to others like Prune."

Krillin smiled and said, "Good, in that case you should take the lead in the fight ahead. You are the strongest on earth right now, not to mention how much you know about them."

Kakarot hesitates for a moment, having a look of conflict about him. However, Kakarot crosses his arms again and then says, "I'll need ta' give ya a rundown on how to fight a Saiyan later."

Tien throws a question Kakarot's way, "What would happen if you fought them right now?"

Kakarot thinks for a moment while tiling his head slightly to the left. Kakarot then speaks with slight hesitation in his voice at first, "Assumin' they haven't gotten into any tight scraps then I should at least be stronger than Raditz and Nappa."

Kakarot's expression grows more serious as he says, "Vegeta…that's the only one I won't be able to beat no matter how much help I get."

Kakarot's vision traced over everyone as he continued, "Regardless of the other two, Vegeta is the only obstacle that matters. Even with the progress I've made, I'm well behind em'."

Kakarot then adds while looking at the ground, "Even if I train my hardest for the rest of the year, I doubt I'll catch up to him."

Kami chimes in, "I may be able to help with that."

Kakarot nodded and said in a low, near inaudible tone while looking away, "I know."

Kami frowned, having been the only one able to hear what he said. Tien cut that thought off by saying, "I'm not asking when you fight them…I'm asking if you can fight them."

Everyone gives Tien a troubled and conflicted expression aside from Kakarot who looks away and Chichi who gives Kakarot a worried look. Tien's expression softens as he places his right arm to his side while facing his palm upward in a flip motion, he says, "I don't mean to question your loyalties. Since our fight I've believed you genuinely want to help us. If you didn't then you wouldn't have rushed to give us this information."

Tien's expression turns sharper as he says in a more serious tone while closing his open hand into a fist, "What I really doubt is your ability to raise a hand against them. The people who you grew up with, whether you hate their species or not doesn't matter when it comes to family."

Tien then puts his fist to his side and adds, "I doubt your ability to fight your brother at the very least."

Kakarot pauses for the longest moment before finally taking a deep breath. He then looks Tien dead in his eye and says with a knitted eyebrow and a serious tone, "If it comes down to the earth or my "family", I'll choose the earth. Even if it means killing my own brother."

Kakarot's gaze was dead serious and unwavering. Kakarot knew his loyalty would be tested in some way upon learning of this news. He just hoped they would trust him in the end.

Authors note: We are finally back, and it only took…the last month or so of my summer. While that does mean, I'm back to work and therefore have less overall time to write, the fact you're seeing this means I've finally finished the full roadmap for this arc and am now getting back to writing chapters which are easier than doing the roadmap. This also means at long last we are using the original material rather than the made-up arcs I needed to set up the characters, plot and all the leadup to the rest of Dragon Ball. So, from here on out we are covering the events of the Saiyan arc, the latter half of it. You could consider the "Earthly Reunion" arc (the arc where Kakarot arrived on Earth in search of Raditz) as the first half of the Saiyan arc but that's beside the point.
