Season 1, Saga 1: New World, Chapter 10: Unfair Ball
(We go to the night sky where Tails and Zee are flying in the X-Tornado as it was a peaceful flight while Zee was keeping himself from looking down.)
"The X Tornado seems to be running really great since we installed the Chaos Emerald. This has to be just about the smoothest flight we've ever been on." Tails said
"Yeah, long as I keep my eyes forward, I won't be scared. Huh?" (The Chaos Emerald starts glowing.) "hey Tails, I think it's picked up on something. Ahh!" Zee shouted
(The X Tornado starts shaking uncontrollably.) "I can't control it. Something's pulling us off-course. Maybe it's another Chaos Emerald. Ergh!" Tails shouted
(Tails struggled keeping the X-Tornado balanced as he and Zee looked ahead to see a stadium and were surprised to see something like it until they heard someone on the ground.)
"Stop! Stop!" the person shouted
(pulls on the controls real hard for the X-Tornado to avoid hitting the ground on time.) "We better go down there." Zee said
(a bit later, Zee and Tails walk into the stadium and are amazed by its views. Tails then sees a man trying to operate a mowing vehicle.)
"Excuse me, sir! Hello? Yo!" Tails shouted
"Huh?" (turns his attention to where the voice came from and sees Zee and Tails, only to panic and hide behind the vehicle.) "Ah, keep away!" the man shouted
"Huh? I'm sorry. It's just, I was in my plane and the Chaos Emerald started glowing and- don't worry mister, I won't hurt ya." Tails said
(a little later, the three were in the benches talking about what happened.)
"Sure is some story, little fella. Never would've guessed that was you flying that plane up there." the man said
"I'm sorry if we frightened you just now, sir. We've never seen a stadium as pretty as this before. You know, the grass is practically glowing!" Tails said
"Thanks for the compliment. Lots of folks say that the turf here in Diamond Stadium is the best in the world, which makes me happy because I've been the groundskeeper at Diamond for 30 years." the man said
"30 years?" Zee asked
"You bet! Only I'm afraid that today's my last day here at the ol' place. You see, the Diamond's manager who wants to build an indoors stadium with artificial turf, so this place is gonna be demolished. I tell you, leaving this place behind feels like the end of an era. By the way, little fella, did you mention something about an emerald?" the man asked
"Yeah." (holds his hand out to Zee for him to pull the Chaos Emerald out of his pocket and hand it to him and show the man.) "See, I'm looking for an emerald just like this one. It's called a 'Chaos Emerald'." Tails said
"A what? Would this be what you're looking for?" the man asked (holds his hand out with something in it revealing to be another Chaos Emerald.)
"Ah, a Chaos Emerald!" Tails shouted
"A blue one!?" Zee asked in shock
"I saw it laying next to the dumpster a couple of nights ago. Wasn't sure what it was." the man said
(The two Chaos Emeralds start glowing. A bright light then shoots straight up into the night sky where everyone in the city are witnessing it. In the forest on top of the cliffs, Grizelda and Knuckles saw the light.)
"I've never seen anything like that before, what do you think it could be?" Grizelda asked
"I know that light." Knuckles said
(at Eggman's fortress, Decoe had alerted Eggman from seeing the light with Rainbow King following from behind.)
"Dr. Eggman! Dr. Eggman! You might want to take a look at this, sir!" Decoe said
"What is that light?" Rainbow King asked
"It appears to be coming from the baseball stadium." Decoe said
"A stadium, you say? Fascinating!" (Opens a drawer and pulls out a baseball.) "I have a feeling that there's an Emerald out in that Diamond!" Dr. Eggman said
(at Thorndyke Mansion, the others were learning how to use the right utensils to eat as True was having trouble holding one of the utensils while Sonic was eating an apple.)
"Let's start with the first course. Which knife and fork should we use?" Ella asked
"Uh... these!" Amy said (holds up the correct knife and fork for the dish they're gonna eat.)
"I agree." Cream said (holds up the same knife and fork as Amy as Cheese replies in agreement.)
"Right. You're such smart children, and what good manners!" Ella said
"I don't see why we have to learn all this etiquette baloney in the first place." Sonic said
"My mom says it's important to learn good manners so we can eat properly." Chris said
"Well, I never learned anything about manners and I've been eating my whole life." Sonic said
"Sonic, kindly use your fruit knife." Mr. Tanaka said
"The utensils in my world were easier to hold then..." (accidentally drops one of the forks onto the floor and taps her fingers nervously.) "sorry." True said
"It's okay, True. you'll get the hang of it." Ella said
"I wonder what's keeping Zee and Tails. They should be back by now." Chuck said
(Flies into the room while laughing.) "Sorry, I didn't know it was meal time, but Dr. Eggman's got a real important message for ya!" Bokkun said
"Argh, not again!" Sonic said
"How dare you barge in on us like this. You need to learn some manners." Mr. Tanaka said
"Eh, that's what you say!" Bokkun said
(Pulls a TV out of his bag and presses a button as the message begins playing.)
"Good evening, Sonic. I suggest you take a look out your window." Dr. Eggman said
"Window?" Sonic asked
(Sonic opens up a window for him and the others to look out and see the light.)
"What is it?" Chuck asked
"That light's coming from a Chaos Emerald." Cream said
"Is she right?" Chris asked
"You're half-right, Cream, but that's not just one Chaos Emerald." Sonic said
"You mean there's another Chaos Emerald where that light is coming from?" True asked
"Correct. We both want those emeralds, but why not be good sports about it? That's why I suggest you suit up, and meet me over at the Diamond Stadium." Dr. Eggman said
"Diamond Stadium?" Mr. Tanaka asked
"What for?" Chuck asked
"I challenge you and your friends to a game of winner-take-all baseball!" Dr. Eggman said (Laughs until the message ended.)
"You guys might be a little rusty, so how about some batting practice?" Bokkun asked (pulls out a baseball bat and holds it in a position about to swing it.)
"Uh oh…" Sonic said
(Bokkun starts batting numerous balls right at Sonic and co. while they try to avoid them until Ella comes up from behind stopping Bokkun.)
(Picks up Bokkun) "You got a decent swing, but you keep hitting it foul!" Ella said (Makes Bokkun nervous until she throws him out the window real far, screaming.)
"What kind of pitch was that?" Chris asked
"I think that was a screwball." Chuck said
"We have to get to that stadium!" Sonic said
(back at the stadium, the light faded away for Zee, Tails and the man to uncover their eyes from what happened.)
"What just happened there, little fella?" the man asked
"That always happens when Chaos Emeralds come together. I just hope the wrong person didn't see it." Tails said
(flies in on his Egg Mobile wearing a baseball uniform.) "Heh-heh-heh! Well, if it isn't my foxy high-flying friend!" Dr. Eggman said
"Dr. Eggman!" Tails said
"Oh no, not him!" Zee said
(Laughs evilly and looks around in wonder.) "Where's the rest of your team? It's almost game time!" Dr. Eggman said
"Forget it! You want the Chaos Emeralds, but I won't give 'em to ya!" Tails said
"Could it be Sonic and his pals are choosing to forfeit? I must say that's very un-sportsman-like of them. If there's one thing I hate more than a meddling hedgehog, it's a quitter!" Dr. Eggman said
"I don't get it. What are you talking about?" Tails asked
"If they won't play ball with me, I still win!" Dr. Eggman said
(The spike at the end of the Egg Mobile transforms into a hand and charges at Tails but he and Zee dodges it.)
"Wh-what's going on here, anyway?" the man asked in panic
(The hand grabs the Chaos Emerald that the man was holding.)
"Oh, no, he's got the Emerald!" Zee said
"Heh-heh, one down, one to go! Hand it over! I won it fair and square. Now give me that second emerald or I'll have to use a force play!" Dr. Eggman said
"I'd like to see you try it!" Tails said
(The hand tries to grab Zee and Tails but Knuckles arrives on time and smashes the hand.)
"That was close. You two all right?" Knuckles asked
"Knuckles! Man, we're glad to see you!" Zee said
"Well, look who it is. I like your costume." Knuckles said
"You again, and what brings you here? Doing Sonic's dirty work?" Dr. Eggman asked (screams in fright and ducks from a baseball almost hitting him and sees Grizelda was still with Knuckles.)
"Try and hurt them again and you'll be sorry." Grizelda said
"Let's get out of here, guys." Knuckles said
"Okay." Tails said
(Runs right past the duo in the stadium.) "Hey, how is it going, Knuckles?" Sonic asked
"Well, if isn't Sonic. I thought you weren't going to show up, so I took one of the Emeralds and I was just collecting the second." (Chuckles) "But now that you're here, maybe we can play ball." Dr. Eggman said
"Alright. Just give us back that Chaos Emerald." Sonic said
"All in good times, my speedy little opponent. But first, let me introduce you to our fellow teammates." Dr. Eggman said
"Huh?" Sonic asked
(A flying saucer appears and shines a bright light at the ground, emerging numerous robots in baseball uniforms out of it.)
"They're scaring me, Amy." Cream said
"It's okay." Amy said
"Don't be afraid," (gets everyone's attention to see Rainbow King floating down to them while wearing a baseball hat with Eggman's logo on it.) "These E-21 Ballios robots are made for sports only." Rainbow King said
"Rainbow King?" True asked
"It's okay, True. I'm alright, but since I've been Eggman's prisoner, I'm forced to be part of his team." (flew next to Eggman with a worried look on his face.)
"Not too shabby, eh? Now why don't we knock off the pre-game ceremonies and get to the reason we're all here. It's now game time." Dr. Eggman said
"Let's play ball!" Decoe and Bocoe said
"You can't have your game here!" Tails shouted
"Wait. It just so happens ol' Grandpa Chuck here is a big baseball fan from way back!" Chuck said
"Huh?" Zee asked
"A nice friendly game of baseball sounds like a great idea to me!" Chuck said
"But... but, Chuck!" Tails said
(Laughs.) "Ah, so you're Chuck, are you? Well, it's a great pleasure to finally meet you. A ball game must sound most exciting after being cooped up in that laboratory of yours day after day!" Dr. Eggman said
"Hey, if you want to have a ball game, then you have to have it someplace else! Isn't anybody listening to me?" Tails asked
"Well, Eggman, if the others are up-court, I would be more than happy to accept your challenge!" Chuck said
"But you can't have your game here! You're going to ruin all the beautiful turf!" Tails shouted
"What's that loud-mouthed fox getting so bent out of shape for?" Decoe asked
"Who knows." Bocoe said
"Hey! I'll have you know this stadium means a lot to my friend!" Tails said
(walks over to Tails and places a hand on his shoulder.) "It's okay, Tails." the man said
"Huh?" Tails asked
"Only a matter of time before it's demolished anyway." the man asked
"He's right, Tails." Zee said
"Have I seen you somewhere?" Chuck asked
"Maybe during the seventh inning stretch. My name's Albert Butler. I'm the head groundskeeper here." Albert said
"Ah! I thought you looked familiar, I've seen you on television! You were good friends with the owner of the Diamond, Elmer Johnson, right?" Chuck asked
"Wow, you know him?" Chris asked
"Elmer and I don't talk much anymore..." Albert said
(Cries a bit) "This is such an honor to think that I get to play baseball on the world famous Diamond Stadium-" Chuck didn't get to finish
"Stop your blubbering and let's play baseball!" Dr. Eggman shouted
"Okay." Amy said
"How do we play?" Cream asked
"Alright, everybody, time for the Chaos Emerald baseball Playoff-" Chuck didn't get to finish
(Pushes Chuck right aside) "It's the first annual Eggman Intergalactic Baseball Challenge!" Dr. Eggman said
"This is sad…" Knuckles said
"And totally embarrassing..." Chris said
"Probably annoying too..." Grizelda said
"One-two, one-two!" Mr. Tanaka said (does some stretches to prepare himself.)
"Does he have to be on our team?" Sonic asked
"Amy, do we get to play, too?" Cream asked
"Don't see why not." Amy said (Cheese replies.)
"Oh, yeah!" Mr. Tanaka said (continues to stretch waiting for the game to start.)
(sits next to Chuck as they watch Eggman practice his baseball swings.) "Hey, Grandpa, I'm not so sure this baseball game is such a good idea. What if Eggman's got something up on his sleeve?" Chris asked
"Chris, you may be right. For all we know, that guy could be using a corked bat." Chuck said
"That's not exactly what I meant." Chris said
"Let's decide which team will be first to bat." (holds his fist out near Chuck's) "Rock, paper-" Dr. Eggman didn't finish
"You can't be serious! You do know what will happen if Dr. Eggman wins, don't you? He won't be just winning the game, but the Chaos Emeralds, too." Knuckles said
"Knuckles is right. If Eggman wins this game, it'll mean nothing but catastrophe for all of us." Grizelda said
"I'd say that's nothing but stinking thinking!" Dr. Eggman said
"Why ruin everyone's fun?" Chuck asked
"Huh?" Knuckles asked
"C'mon, you two, don't you wanna play?" Amy asked
"Don't be chicken!" Cream said
"Us? Chicken?!" Grizelda asked in panic
"Perhaps Mr. Knuckles and Miss Grizelda are simply afraid to play a game of baseball!" Mr. Tanaka said
"Afraid?! We're not afraid of anything!" Knuckles said
(appears in between Knuckles and Grizelda placing his arms over both of their shoulders.) "Great! Then you'll play, huh?" Sonic asked
(starts turning red which makes Knuckles worried and jumps in place with anger causing the others to fall back from her outburst.) "Alright! You asked for it! You want a team player, we'll give you a team player! Let's get this game on!" Grizelda shouted
"Let's play ball!" Decoe said
"Bring it on!" Chris said
(The Ballios pitcher throws the ball right at a superfast speed.)
"Strike 1." Decoe said
"Huh?!" Chris asked in shock
(Sonic whistles loudly from what happened)
(Ballios pitcher pitches.) "Strike 2." (Pitches again.) "Strike 3, one out." Decoe said
(Walks off.) "How could anybody hit a ball that fast?" Chris asked
(Laughs.) "Loser! Okay, boys, send in the next sucker." Dr. Eggman said
(Tails steps up into the plate.)
"It'll probably be a fastball." Tails said
(The Ballios pitcher stretches its arm across the range and flicks the ball to the Ballios catcher.)
"Strike 1." Decoe said
"Hey, umpire, that's not fair!" Tails shouted
"What do you want? It's not my fault he's got long arms." Decoe said
(a bit later, Amy was now up to bat.)
"Give me your best pitch, ball boy!" (Ballios pitcher pitches the ball.) "I got it!" Amy said
(Amy strikes the ball flying high. Sonic's team cheers on.)
"We might not lose after all." Knuckles said
(A Ballios fielder throws another Ballios fielder into the air and catches it.)
"She's out!" Decoe shouted
"Huh?! But I thought…" (Dr. Eggman laughs. In the next inning, Sonic's team was on the field now.) "Now I'll show 'em what I can do. I'm a much better pitcher anyway." (Throws the ball and strikes at the Ballios batter. The robot walks off.) "Uh, sorry about that!" Amy said
(Amy pitches and the batting Ballios misses while one of the other Ballios robots starts running on the field to the base where Zee is. It extends its legs to leap over a wide distance onto the base.)
"Safe." Decoe said
"Losing isn't fun…" Tails said
(The ball is thrown and the Ballios batter strikes the ball away.)
"And it's out of the park!" Dr. Eggman shouted
(Sonic runs to the top of the stadium scoreboard with True on his back for her to catch it.)
"Home run. Home run." Decoe said
"You caught it, Sonic, but if it's outside the fence, it doesn't count." Chuck said
"Ugh! Who says we gotta play by the rules anyway?! Cut me some slack!" Sonic shouted (looks at True nervously from seeing her face turn green and gag a bit.)
(The next inning begins with Amy batting a pitch which hits the Ballios pitcher, shattering it into pieces.)
"Sorry, that's a hit!" Amy said
(Knuckles bats the pitch, resulting in a home run.)
"Sad to say, but it's a home run." Decoe said
(Sonic's team cheers on as the bleachers in the audience were filling up with Scarlet reporting it.)
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is Scarlet Garcia with a live report from Diamond Stadium. There appears to be a most unusual baseball game happening right this moment. The notorious Dr. Eggman and a team of robots are playing a game against Sonic and friends here at the stadium, the soon-to-be former home of the Diamonds. This is certain to become sports history. This is Scarlet Garcia reporting. Stay tuned to SSTV for continuing coverage of this momentous game." Scarlet said
"We're closing in on them! Now let's give it our best shot! Tanaka!" Chuck said
"Yes, sir!" Mr. Tanaka said
"I'm putting in a pitch-hitter for you!" Chuck said
"Huh?!" Mr. Tanaka asked in shock
"It's Cheese!" Chuck said (Cheese replies in excitement.)
(The Ballios pitcher pitches with hesitation.)
"Ball 1." (Pitches again.) "Ball 2." (Pitches again.) "Ball 3." (Pitches again.) "Ball 4. Take your base." Decoe said
(Cheese flies towards first base.)
"Is that something for when a player is short enough for it to happen?" Rainbow King asked
"Grr... you big loser! You call yourself a pitcher?!" Dr. Eggman asked in rage
(Cream steps into the field.)
"Play ball." Decoe said
"Oh, Mr. Pitcher," (calls out to the Ballios pitcher before it could throw the ball.) "could you... maybe not throw the ball too hard? I've never played before." Cream said
(the Ballios pitcher began to blush from seeing Cream's eyes and dropped the ball.)
"Balk. Batter takes first base." Decoe said
"Thank you, Mr. Pitcher!" Cream said (runs to first base.)
"Grrrrr... I oughta throw you on a scrap heap!" Dr. Eggman shouted
(Grizelda hits a home-run shot just like Knuckles.)
"Alright, Grizelda! A home-run!" Chuck said
"I've been teaching her well." Knuckles said
"That means we're tied!" Amy said
"Ah, look everybody!" Chris said
(they looked up at the bleachers to see the people of the city were watching the game.)
"Huh?" Chuck asked
"Where'd all these people come from?" Albert asked
(Sonic's turn to bat. He manages to get to first base.)
"Grr... you strike out that squirt or else!" Dr. Eggman shouted
(Chris steps into the field. Ballios pitcher pitches.)
"Strike 1." Decoe said
"Oh, no. What if I let the whole team down?" Chris asked in thought
(Ballios pitches again.) "Strike 2." Decoe said
"Time out!" Sonic shouted
"Huh?" Chris asked
"Hey, Chris! I know you can get a hit. There's nothing to it, Chris. All you have to do is concentrate." sonic said
"That's easy for you to say. He's pitching so fast." Chris said
"So, he threw a couple of fastballs. You can't let that get you down, pal. Just keep on trying and don't give up. Now get out there and do your best!" Sonic said
"Okay." Chris said
"Play ball." Decoe said
"Sonic's right. I just have to keep trying." Chris said
(Ballios pitcher throws and Chris swings.)
"Strike 3." Decoe said
"At least I tried my best." Chris said in thought
"Chris, run!" Chuck shouted
(Chris sees a Ballios fielder running after the ball and proceeds to run. True makes it to home base while Chris runs to first base.)
"Safe." Decoe said
"I did it! I got to first base!" Chris said
(Sonic's team cheers Chris on.)
"Oh, yeah? Those bumbling clowns! They won't make a fool out of me!" Dr. Eggman said (Bocoe appears with a remote and Dr. Eggman presses a button on it. One of the Ballios robots has its head detach and is about to attach onto Sonic's head only for True to push Sonic out of the way for it to attach to her head.)
"What's that?" Sonic asked
"Oh, dear! My robot! It's malfunctioning! It will explode any minute now! Run, kid! Hurry! Run away!" Dr. Eggman said
"Sonic, what are we gonna do?" Chris asked
(tries to pull the Ballios head off of True's head but had trouble.) "He's trying to get us to forfeit the game! I gotta get rid of this thing, quick!" (Picks True up onto his back and runs around the stadium.) "Hey, it's really hanging on!" Sonic said
"Sonic!" Knuckles shouted
"Huh?" Sonic asked
"Jump, Sonic! Hurry!" Knuckles shouted
"Okay!" (Sonic jumps into the air and Knuckles is charging towards the Ballios head.) "Hey, watch it, will you?!" (Knuckles knocks the head off True and it explodes in the air.) "Thanks, you're a lifesaver!" Sonic said
"Yeah, thanks Knuckles." True said
(Laughs.) "You may have beaten me at baseball, but with this shiny blue Chaos Emerald snuggled ever-so-safely in my pocket, I'm the real winner after all! Aren't I?" Dr. Eggman asked (Laughs and escapes.)
"Now he has one of the Chaos Emeralds." Amy said
(but their gloom was interrupted when they heard the crowd cheering for them.)
"As you can see, there's been quite a turnout for this event. The game was, of course, the last to be played here at the stadium." (hears the crowd cheering louder and turns to see who they were cheering for and gasps in surprise.) "Could that be..." Scarlet said
(Just then, a man in a light blue suit walks in which surprises everyone as the crowd cheers.)
"Hey, look, it's Elmer Johnson!" Chris said
"I was watching at home. I must say it was quite a remarkable game. It's all thanks to you, Al, and I- well, Al, I can't help but think how much you've done for the Diamonds over the years and what a great friend you've been." Elmer said
"Thank you." Albert said
"I'm thinking about moving the Diamond turf over to the new stadium intact. I sure could use your help." Elmer said
"Sure thing." Albert said
(The crowd cheers happily knowing the Diamond is gonna live on.)
"Well, we may have lost the Chaos Emerald, but I think we've learned an important lesson about working together, and I'm sure you'll agree, we'll be even stronger next time we meet Eggman." Chuck said
(at Eggman's fortress, Eggman was looking at the blue Chaos Emerald as he was twirling his baseball cap with a single finger.)
"At last, I got one of the Chaos Emeralds." Dr. Eggman said
"So that's a Chaos Emerald?" Rainbow King asked
"That's right, there are seven of them. They say if all seven are together, Chaos Control would happen." Dr. Eggman said
(Rainbow King looked closer at the Chaos Emerald as he was curious about its power.)
