Season 1, Saga 2: Chaos Emerald, Chapter 1: That's What Friends Are For
(The scene shows the President's office in the White House where Jerome Wise is holding a newspaper about the defeat of Dr. Eggman and the destruction of his fortress that happened in the episode before.)
"This is great news, Mr. President, and it couldn't have come at a better time! Now, you're sure to be re-elected!" Jerome said
(The President looks sad.)
"I don't know about that." the President said
"Huh?" Jerome asked
"I'm not the real hero of the story." (He points at the newspaper Jerome is holding.) "Look closer." the President said
"Huh?" (Jerome looks at the newspaper to see a photo of True and Sonic smiling, winking, and giving a thumbs up on the front page. He then gets irritated and looks at another newspaper with a photo of True standing with her arms crossed and a smug look on her face on the front page. He then looks at another one to see a photo of Sonic sticking his tongue out and pulling down one of his eyelids on the cover.) SONIC AND TRUE! (Jerome tosses the newspapers in the air with a growl and grabs a remote control to turn a TV on. The TV screen displays a clip of True and Sonic. Jerome changes the channel to another clip of True and Sonic. He then changes the channel several more times with each channel showing clips of True and Sonic. Jerome screams and growls, putting his hands on his head.) "If we don't act fast, sir, they'll elect Sonic President!" Jerome shouted
"Huh? I'll have to find myself a real job…" the President said
"Grr…" (walks towards the President and puts his hands on the President's desk.) "We've got to do something right away!" Jerome said
"Now, now, let's not overreact about this. Just stay calm." the President said
(Jerome begins to pace back and forth in the office.)
"Ergh, think, think! There must be something we can do... Ah, that's it! I know!" Jerome said
"Hm?" the President asked
(Jerome smiles.)
"It's a brilliant idea! We'll host a black-tie charity ball in celebration of our recent victory!" Jerome said
(The President looks confused.)
"Yes, but what does a victory celebration do to solve our Sonic problem?" the President asked
"We're going to make Sonic the guest of honor! We'll invite the media, get in a couple of photo-ops, that kind of thing!" (An imaginary scene of photographers taking multiple pictures of True and Sonic shaking hands with the President is shown. The same event is broadcasted live on TV.) "It'll be in all the papers, all over the cable-news talk shows: 'The President and Sonic, the dynamic duo battling together against the forces of oppression'! Once the voters see that you are buddies with Sonic and True, your approval rating will go through the roof! There's no way you can lose, your re-election will be a sure thing! I'll have the staff get started. We'll make sure all the television reporters get personal invitations to the free buffet tent!" Jerome said
(Jerome turns to leave. The President sighs about Jerome's plans. The scene shifts to the Thorndyke Mansion where Sonic leaves to go for a run while carrying True on his back. Chris steps out of the house to tell him something.)
"Hey, Sonic, a letter came for you and True!" (Sonic doesn't hear him and continues running.) "Hm? Ah, it's from the President!" Chris said
(Chuck reads the letter aloud.)
"'You are cordially invited to a black-tie charity ball.' Hm... sounds interesting." Chuck said
"It's addressed to Sonic and True, but it says right there they can bring as many friends as they want!" Chris said
"Well, then, in that case, I say we dust off our best party duds and make it a date!" Chuck said
(Everyone else cheers.)
"I bet they'll serve lots of yummy food there…" (Amy imagines a table of delicious food.) "I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!" Amy said (Amy then sighs with a dreamy look on her face and a drop of drool hanging from her mouth.)
"Me too!" Tails said
"Same here!" Zee said
(Sonic pushes the door open making a cool pose with a frown on his face and his eyes closed with True following behind revealing herself to be bandaged on both arms and one of her legs.)
"We're back." Sonic said
"Hey, Sonic! Guess what? You won't believe it! The President's giving a party and both you and True are invited!" Chris said
"We are?" True asked
"Mmm-hmm! And all of us get to go, too! It'll be fun!" Chris said
"When is this party?" Sonic asked
"On Thursday." Chris said
(Sonic turns his head away, closes his eyes, and holds up his hand dismissively as True closes her eyes as well while shrugging.)
"Can't make it." Sonic said
"No go." True said
"Ah! Why can't ya?" Chris asked
"We promised Helen we'd hang out." Sonic said
"Helen? You mean the girl in my class?" Chris asked
"Yeah, that's the one. She's a friend of ours." True said
"I didn't know that." Chris said
"We met her over at the lake…" (The scene flashbacks to Sonic's first meeting with Helen nearby a lake. Sonic runs past the lake where he sees a girl in a wheelchair which is stuck in a mud pit.) "Oh!" (Sonic runs over to her and helps her get out of the mud pit.) "Hi there!" Sonic said
"Thank you. Oh! You're Sonic and True, aren't you?" the girl asked
(True and Sonic look surprised.)
"You've heard of us?" True asked
"Of course!" the girl said
"That's pretty cool! What's your name?" Sonic asked
"Helen." Helen said
(Sonic smiles and winks.)
"Pleasure to meetcha!" Sonic said
"I come out here a lot. I love to look at that island." Helen said
"That one over there?" Sonic asked
"Mmm-hmm. My father says it's filled with the most beautiful flowers. All different kinds. He always promises he'll take me there, but he... he's always too busy." Helen said
"Don't worry. I'm sure he'll take you there one of these days." True said
"I don't know. My dad doesn't seem to ever have enough time for me. I'd go myself but…" Helen said
(Helen looks down at her wheelchair.)
"Oh. You really want to see that island, Helen?" Sonic asked
"Of course I do!" Helen said
"Then we're gonna take ya!" True said
(Helen gasps. True, Sonic and Helen are seen crossing their pinkies and the flashback ends.)
"We promised. Oh, I got a lot of work to do!" (Runs over to Chuck.) "Hey, Chuck, I need some life-jackets and a boat." Sonic said
"Check over in the storage room." Chuck said
(Sonic picks True up onto his back and runs out of the house. Scene shifts to the White House where a couple of fireworks go off. The interior displays a buffet containing tables of food and several guests in there.)
"Okay! Now, if everything goes according to plan, Sonic should be arriving any minute. Then we'll have him meet the big guy and watch him go crazy!" Jerome said
"They're here!" a guest shouted
"Ah, it's time!" (A limousine drives outside of the White House with photographers flashing their cameras and reporters. The passenger door opens and Amy steps out wearing a party dress and makes a pose to show off. Chuck, Chris, Zee, Tails, Cream, and Cheese step out as well wearing fancy clothes for the party and the reporters take pictures of them all. Jerome shoves the photographers and reporters aside. Jerome chuckles.) "Here's our guests of honor! Hm?" (Jerome looks at them and sees that True and Sonic are not among them.) "Hey, where are Sonic and True?" Jerome asked
"Not coming." Chuck said
"Whaaaaaat?!" Jerome asked in shock
"To the party!" Chuck shouted
(Chuck, Chris, Zee, Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese excitedly run towards the White House. The reporters and photographers dejectedly walk past Jerome to leave.)
"Yeah, well, if Sonic and True aren't showing up to this clambake, I'm getting out of here!" a Photographer said
"The station better pay for my parking." a Reporter said
(Jerome screams and runs in front of the photographers and reporters to stop them from leaving.)
"Please don't go yet. Sonic will be here any minute! I promise! Why don't you hang out at the buffet table awhile? Please?" (Turns to three government agents) "Hey, don't just stand there! Go and find Sonic and True and bring them over here pronto!" Jerome shouted
"Yes sir!" some Government Agents said
(The government agents run off. The scene shifts to the Thorndyke Mansion where Ella is seen cleaning the foyer. Ella turns to the government agents that have just arrived in surprise.)
"This is official government business! We need Sonic and True immediately!" a Government Agent said
"Who do you think you are, barging into this house? You 'mister big-shot too important to knock', heh? Well, too bad, Sonic and True are not here!" Ella said
"You better not be hiding them, ma'am." a Government Agent said
"Don't tell me what not to do, big-shot! Now get out, I've got my cleaning!" Ella said
"Grrr, that's it! Alright, we're searching the whole place!" a Government Agent said
"TANAKAAA!" Ella yelled
(Mr. Tanaka appears and steps towards the government agents.)
"Don't get in our way, buddy!" a Government Agent said
"Stand back, Ella. This time, it is my turn to clean up the house!" Mr. Tanaka said
(Mr. Tanaka charges to attack the government agents as they quickly retreat. Scene shifts to the White House.)
"What do you mean 'they're not home'?" Jerome asked
"Next time I take your advice, don't let me." the President said
"I'm gonna get Sonic and True here if it's the last thing I do! Connect me to defense! Mr. Secretary, sir, we have an emergency! We need to fully mobilize all troops! GET ME SONIC AND TRUE! THEY'RE RUINING MY PARTY!" Jerome yelled
(Military forces prepare themselves while the satellite cameras focus into the country. Scene shifts to the military intel.)
"Request has been entered, sir. All systems go. Beginning search." a Pilot said on the radio
"This won't be easy, one of the two targets moves at 700 miles per hour. Stay alert!" the Military commander said
(The screen flicks through multiple cameras. One of them detects Sonic and True.)
"Targets spotted, sir." a Pilot said on the radio
"Yeah, where?" the Military commander asked
"S-13 district. Targets are moving north at 400 miles per hour." a Pilot said on the radio
"Just don't lose sight of them!" the Military commander said
"We lost sight of them." a Pilot said on the radio
"Well, you better find them in a hurry!" the Military commander shouted
(Scene shifts to the lake where True, Sonic and Helen arrived by.)
"Sure is noisy up there. You stay here, we'll go get the boat, okay?" Sonic asked
(Scene shifts to the White House)
"Now then, freshly squeezed juice, anyone? Hey, running low on hor d'oeuvres. Ugh, they better find those two fast!" Jerome said
(Scene shifts to the field where Sonic runs towards the Thorndyke Mansion with True on his back. An authority vehicle is parked outside the mansion's gates.)
"I think I've just spotted them." a Surveillance officer said
(The other surveillance officer further examines the interior of the mansion, showing Ella talking to True and Sonic.)
"It is them! We've located Sonic and True up at the Thorndyke Residence." another Surveillance officer said (Three helicopters fly overhead the mansion. Sonic is seen outside the mansion holding a boat with True on top of it.)
"Down there! Okay, you know what to do." a Pilot said
"Alright!" another Pilot said
(The second pilot prepares to take aim at True and Sonic and fires a missile at him. Sonic responds by kicking it back at the helicopter before running off.)
"We almost had them, sir. Now, they're traveling on the freeway." another Surveillance officer said
(Scene shifts to True and Sonic running along a freeway. They look behind, seeing police cars and helicopters chasing after them.)
"This is getting on my nerves!" Sonic said
"Quick! Go off road!" True said
"Got it!" Sonic said
(Sonic jumps off the freeway towards the ground below.)
"Might as well grab some lunch. We'll never catch them anyway!" a Police Officer said
(Scene shifts to the military intel.)
"What do you mean 'they're off the freeway'? What's that? The lake?!" the Military commander asked in anger
(Scene shifts to the lake where Helen is waiting at.)
"We're back! You ready?" Sonic asked
"Mmm-hmm." Helen said
(The scene shifts to the party at the White House. The reporters and photographers are growing impatient.)
"When are they gonna be here?!" a Reporter asked
"Are they coming or aren't they?!" another Reporter asked
(Jerome is smiling and holding a salami.)
"Now, fellas, I assure you Sonic's on the way! Just be patient! How about a little salami?" Jerome asked
(Scene shifts to the lake where True, Sonic and Helen begin sailing towards the island.)
"Just a little bit farther…" Sonic said
"I'm so excited! I've dreamed of seeing this island for so long, Sonic! I wish my father could've come with me…" (Flashbacks to Helen's father, Doug, working at a grocery store.) "If only he didn't have to work so hard. We could be together more." Helen said
"Listen, Doug, you've been working a lot of hours lately. I... could hire someone part-time to make it easier." the Store manager said
"No need to, sir. I don't mind the hard work. Plus, I need the hours." Doug said
"Alright then, they're yours!" the Store manager said
(Doug winks.)
"You can count on me, sir!" Doug said
(Flashback ends.)
"We're almost there!" True said
(True, Sonic and Helen realize that the military helicopters are following them.)
"Who are they?" Helen asked
(The wind emitting from the helicopters' rotary blades create a ripple in the lake. A hook is shot into the boat and the helicopter turns towards the other direction to drag True, Sonic and Helen with it.)
"Alright, let's pull that baby ashore!" a Pilot said
"True, Helen, are you okay?" Sonic asked
"I'm fine." Helen said
"Me too." True said
"Good." (Sonic grabs at the tip of the hook and pulls it out of the boat and attaches it to Helen's wheelchair.) "Hang on tight, okay?" (True, Sonic and Helen are swung and after reaching a certain point, Sonic releases the hook which causes them to fly through the air and reaches the edge of a cliff on the island.) "Well, we almost made it." (The three started rolling along the cliff towards the water. Sonic managed to run quickly enough and pushed himself, True and Helen to safety. Helen starts giggling.) Don't cry, Helen, you're alright now." Sonic said
"Sorry, it's just that-well, I feel so alive! I never thought somebody like me could have such an adventure!" Helen said
(Sonic winks in response and then turns to the helicopters who are following them.)
"Oh boy, this ain't good." True said
"These guys just don't give up, do they? Helen, are you up for another adventure?" Sonic asked
"Of course!" Helen said
"Alright!" Sonic said
(Sonic zooms off with True and Helen into the forest. As they zoomed through the forest, they passed a pink metal gauntlet which began to twitch more until it began to move with the ground around it starting to break apart.)
"The targets appear to have left the forest, commander." a Pilot said
(Scene shifts to the military intel.)
"Good, we'll be waiting at the other side. Quick, send a squadron out there now!" the Military commander said
"Roger!" a Pilot said on the radio
(Scene shifts to the buffet at the White House. Jerome is seen laughing while True and Sonic's friends are having a feast.)
"This is boring. Wonder what Sonic and True are doing?" Chris asked
"I just hope it's nothing bad." Zee said
(Scene shifts to the island where a helicopter lands at a section of the island to dispatch a squadron of authority soldiers each riding on some sort of hover vehicle that takes off into a forest. Meanwhile, True, Sonic and Helen are seen in the middle of the forest.)
"I really do love my mom and dad. They're so good to me, that's why they work so hard. So that I can have everything I need. They make sure I have the best doctors, the best medicine, even this wheelchair must have cost them a lot of money. There's only one thing I want more than anything though, and that's to spend more time with them and have more fun. But, I had lots of fun today, Sonic! I've never been so excited in my whole life!" Helen said
"Uh, Sonic?" True asked (points up for Sonic to see what it was.)
"Hmm, I have a feeling we're both in for a little more excitement." Sonic said
"Huh? (Sonic looks back and sees moving flashlights.) I'm ready if you are!" Helen said
"OK!" Sonic said
"Go!" (Sonic zooms off with True and Helen through the forest with the soldiers following behind them.) "You think we can beat them?" Helen asked
"A piece of... Aah!" Sonic shouted (looks back and panics from seeing a 15 foot tall pink suit of armor wearing a cape its size running after them on foot real fast behind the soldiers.)
"What is that thing!?" Helen asked in panic
"I don't know, but I don't think it's from here!" True shouted
"Hold on tight! (As Sonic continues running, one by one each soldier crashes into a natural obstacle of the forest.) "Thought you'd catch me, did ya?" Sonic asked
"Sonic, up ahead!" (Sonic stops in front of a cliff. Opening their eyes, the three look up to see a path at the top of the cliff.) "Here they come!" (Sonic takes some steps back.) Ready?" Helen asked
"Here goes!" Sonic said
(Sonic runs with True and Helen and successfully climbs to the top of the cliff. The soldiers tried to stop but they collided with the cliff as the giant suit of armor skidded to a halt before it could slam into the cliff. True, Sonic and Helen chuckled to see what happened to them before turning their attention towards a beautiful meadow of flowers.)
"Dad was right, Sonic! They're the prettiest flowers anywhere!" Helen said
"They really are." True said
"I'll pick some for ya, Helen!" Sonic said
(Sonic is just about to pick one up when Helen stops him.)
"Don't! Leave them just as they are. I want to come back someday with my mother and father." Helen said
"I get it. That way, it will be just as beautiful." (Flower petals float by in the air. Suddenly, hooks are launched onto the cliff behind True, Sonic and Helen. Sonic looks over and sees the soldiers climbing on the rope as the giant suit of armor was climbing with its hands.) "These guys just won't quit!" Sonic said
"They have to somehow, they can't chase us forever!" True said
"We can't let them up here. If we do, they'll ruin all the flowers!" Helen said
"Not if I can help it. Hey! Over here!" Sonic said
"There he is!" an Authority soldier said (He jumps off. Sonic and Helen take off again. The authority soldiers chase after them as the giant suit of armor blasted lightning from the tips of its fingers at the two crumbled hover vehicles and combined them to make a hoverbike and chase after the three on it.)
"That thing just got something to catch up with us on!" True said
"Those guys are faster than I thought! Ah!" (Sonic realizes that he is almost about to run off the edge of a cliff to the water and quickly slows down with a screech. Helen's wheelchair stops right at the edge. They look down and see they've hit a dead end.) "Bummer…" Sonic said (The soldiers take their aim at Sonic with the hooks as the giant suit of armor unsheathed a sword. A helicopter then appears.)
"Alright, Sonic, let's go! You and True are wanted by the President, and don't pull any funny stuff." another Authority soldier said
"I'll go, but you gotta catch me!" Sonic said
"Alright, you asked for it!" (Sonic positions himself somewhere else.) Fire!" another Authority soldier said
(The military soldiers and the helicopter fire their hooks at Sonic. They miss Sonic and tie a knot with each other. Sonic picks up Helen in his arms with True on his back and runs along the rope to the helicopter with the giant suit of armor following after them on the rope.)
"Hey!" the Helicopter Pilot shouted
(The pilot attempts to grab True and Sonic but fails and falls out of the helicopter.)
"Call me!" Sonic said
(The pilot falls into the water.)
"Can you fly this thing?" Helen asked
"I usually leave the flying to Tails, but I'll sure try." (Sonic presses a button to detach the hook weapon from the helicopter, knocking the military soldiers back. But the giant suit of armor jumped in time and grabbed onto the landing skids causing the helicopter to tilt for True and Helen to hang on to where they're sitting as Sonic tries to balance it out.) "Oh come on! That thing just won't quit!"
"What does it want!?" Helen asked in panic
(The giant suit of armor then reached an arm into the helicopter and pulled itself up and looked at True.) "Finally, I have you now!" the giant suit of armor said
"It's after True!" Helen shouted
"Say what!?" Sonic asked in panic
"I, General Rainbow, will capture you in the name of Rainbow King!" General Rainbow said (General Rainbow was about to grab True as she froze in shock from what he said which made Sonic and Helen panic from it.)
"Uh oh!" Helen said
"Shouldn't have said that guy's name, buddy!" Sonic said
"What are you…" General Rainbow didn't get to say (looks at True to see her eyes are black and blue and got interrupted from True punching him in the left eye, cracking it and knocking him off the helicopter and into the water screaming as True's eyes went back to normal and flopped onto one of the seats in the back panting from her rage rising.)
"I'm glad she doesn't use her anger on us." Helen said
"Yeah, she's not much of a fighter. Hey, I almost forgot something!" Sonic said
(Sonic presses another button in the joystick to fire a hook which attaches to Helen's wheelchair. Sonic proceeds to fly away from the island. As Sonic flew the helicopter away, General Rainbow rose up from below the water with the Helicopter Pilot on his shoulder.)
"Don't think this is over! In the name of the Rainbow King, I will capture you!" General Rainbow shouted
(The Helicopter Pilot then grabbed one of General Rainbow's fingers on one hand and cuffed it with the same finger on the other hand.) "Rainbow King is working with a criminal, so you're under arrest." (The Helicopter Pilot then took out a radio and contacted the Military commander.) "sir, we're gonna need something strong to hold this guy." the Helicopter Pilot said
"Ah! Sonic, True, the flowers! (Flower petals float gently in the air. Scene shifts to the helicopter flying above Station Square.) "Well, I guess our adventure's over, Sonic." Helen said
"Guess so. Did you have fun?" Sonic asked
"Sure did!" Helen said
"Hey guys, It's getting late." True said
"Yeah, we better get you home, Helen." Sonic said
"But, Sonic, aren't you and True supposed to go and see the President?" Helen asked
"The President?" True asked
"That guy can wait." Sonic said
"But I'd feel awful if you two didn't get to see him because of me... Please go see him. I'll even go with you!" Helen said
"Since you put it that way…" Sonic said
(Sonic directed their course towards the White House. Scene shifts to the buffet area of the White House where Jerome is on the phone.)
"What's that? They did?! The what?! The chopper?! What now?! Ah! (Jerome realized that True, Sonic and Helen arrived at the White House. Amy, Tails, Cream, Cheese, Chris, Zee and Chuck look at them in surprise.) "It's Sonic and True! They came after all! They're here! They're really here!" Jerome said
(The guests turned to True and Sonic's direction and the President walks towards True and Sonic.)
"Sonic, True. Great to finally meet you both." the President said
(He shakes hands with True and Sonic.)
"Now, hold them right there! Hurry, hurry! Reporters, photographers, this is the moment you've been waiting for!" Jerome shouted
(All of the photographers and reporters are seen sleeping at a table. Jerome screams in dismay and faints. The President, True, Sonic, and their friends all stare for a second and then burst into laughter. The scene shifts to Helen's house where Helen is having dinner with her parents.)
"So there we were, in the middle of all these beautiful flowers. All of a sudden, we looked down and saw the men and this giant suit of armor that works for Rainbow King climbing toward us! Before I knew it was happening, Sonic, True and I were whirling into the forest and then they were following us on these strange flying bicycles, but we were way ahead of them, and then we came to a cliff looking way down over the ocean, and this helicopter came so they could take Sonic and True to the President, and they shot off this rope with a claw on the end, but Sonic grabbed me and- oh, Momma, could I-" Helen was about to ask
"Alright! I don't think I've ever seen you eat like this…" Helen's mom said
"So anyway-" Helen was about to say
"Now, now, hold on, honey, I'm gonna go get a refill, too! With a story as fascinating as this, I'm gonna need my energy!" Doug said
"Hurry back, dad! I'll tell you about the helicopter! Sonic grabbed me out of my wheelchair and he carried me and True all the way up the rope!" Helen said
"Alright, alright! Our little girl's had quite the adventure!" Doug said
"Do you hear? She's so changed... She sounds, sounds so happy. I just want, to be there for her... Spend more time with her…" Helen's mom said [Cries.]
"Yeah, I've been working too many hours lately. I haven't spent enough time with the family. Let's plan a daytrip to that island Helen loves so much! What do you say?" Doug said
"Mom, dad! What's taking you so long?" Helen asked
"We're coming, honey!" Doug said
"Sorry, dear! Your father and I were having a very important discussion." Helen's mom said
"Hurry! I'm coming to the most exciting part! So anyway, we got into the helicopter-" Helen didn't get to say
"A helicopter? I've never been in one!" Helen's mom said
"And I'll bet you flew it all the way to the President's house!" Doug said
"No fair, dad! You're ruining my story!" Helen said
(True and Sonic are watching from outside of Helen's house on a tree branch with a smile on their faces.)
