Rip drove the Mercedes down to the bunkhouse the next morning leaving the keys to his truck on the breakfast bar for Beth.
He went to where all the tools were normally kept and wood cut offs to see what they had. He rifled through the wood not seeing anything that they would want to use for Lucy's room but plenty of off cuts that she could practice on. He wasn't sure how her hand skills were.
"All good?" John asked coming in from his morning ride as Rip closed the door.
"Yes Sir. Just seeing what we had. We're building Lucy some new furniture." He explained.
"I can give you a hand."
Rip was unsure how to tell him no. He didn't think Lucy would want John to be there and he also didn't. He wanted this to be their thing. "I'll let you know." He said.
John nodded as Rip walked off.
"Jimmy!" He called out who was saddling for the horses. "When's your next rodeo? My daughter wants to watch a bunch of idiots try and hurt themselves."
"Tonight, Sir." Jimmy told him. He was competing in the rodeo in the town over that night. So far he had won a few rodeos but tonight's was meant to be an important one according to Lloyd.
"Damn. All right." Rip said. He couldn't help but wonder what dumbass put a rodeo on, on a Sunday.
Lucy could hear Beth on the phone from her bedroom. When she heard the call end she got out of her bed before knocking on Beth's door.
"Come in." Beth said.
Lucy open the door before making her way into the room and jumping on the bed.
"You ok?"
"Mmhm. I think I really was upset about last nights party. It just wasn't fair. I wouldn't ditch Ella so it hurt that she did that to me."
"That's all part of growing up. She didn't have to let you know about the cops but she did." Beth said looking at her.
"Yeah I guess so."
Beth pulled Lucy in to her giving her a cuddle.
"You know I'm not five right." Lucy said. As soon as the words left her mouth she wanted to take them back.
Beth felt the sting of Lucy's words. She didn't want to let Lucy go from her arms because knowing the effect of her words would be obvious.
"I know that." Beth said trying to force a smile.
"I didn't mean it." Lucy mumbled into Beth's arms, not wanting to look at her incase the hurt was written on her face.
It didn't quite take the sting away from Beth. "I know that too. Up you get anyway, we are going to town." She said letting Lucy go.
Lucy got off the bed, leaving for her own room not without glancing back at Beth who was facing the other direction. She shook her head going to get changed before making herself breakfast.
Beth shook off the feeling in her chest from Lucy's words, knowing she didn't intend them the way they came out. She got in the shower to get ready for their morning in town. She could hearing banging and cursing downstairs as she got out of the shower and changed.
Downstairs, Lucy was trying to make the same fry bread that Rip made her. Instead she was making more of a mess and noise trying to find what she needed. She could hear Beth on the stairs as she flipped the fry bread. The bacon and eggs, definitely now sitting cold on a plate to the side.
"What's going on?" Beth asked, looking around at the spilt flour on the bench and opened milk bottle. Two fry pans discarded in the sink.
"I made this." She said sliding a plate down the bench to Beth. "I couldn't do the coffee machine." Beth looked over and noticed the coffee grains spilt and milk jug off to the side.
"Thank you baby." Beth said leaving a kiss on her head before tending to her coffee machine. It was the only appliance in the kitchen that Beth knew how to use without fail.
Beth sipped at her coffee, watching Lucy while she ate.
"I'm ready." Lucy said putting the last of the egg in her mouth. Beth finished her coffee before grabbing the keys to the truck.
"I hate this fucking thing." Beth mumbled as they drove off the ranch.
"We could just take your car and have it delivered?"
"No." Beth said with certainty.
Lucy shook her head at Beth's stubbornness. She was ready to get out of the car by the time they pulled up out the front of Beth's preferred homewares store. Lucy followed Beth inside looking around at the bed frames, bedside tables and drawers on one side. Couches and dining tables on another side. She looked at the nearest price tag on a toddlers bed, feeling her eyeballs nearly pop out of her head at the hefty price. She trailed after Beth as she weaved her way through the furniture.
"Mom." She said trying to get her attention before the sales assistant came over to them.
"Can I help you Miss Dutton?" The clerk asked. .
"I'm after a bed frame and mattress. I also want to look at your bedside tables and drawers." She told him.
"Right this way." He said leading them somewhere. "We are bedroom suite's here and feel free to browse."
Lucy looked at the closest price tag noticing it was now nearly double the one she had just looked at. "Mom!." She said this time louder.
"What is it?"
"It's so expensive. We can get a bed from somewhere else."
Beth glanced down at the price tag before telling Lucy it was fine. They walked past the white Hampton style beds that the store had introduced to please all the out of towners as Rip called them.
"Pick what one you like, but none of those." Beth said pointing to a row of beds.
Lucy walked up and down the rows, eying off two that she liked. One had a solid headboard and the other a traditional slatted head board. Both were apart of a suite that came with two bed side tables and a set of drawers.
"I like this one but it's expensive." Lucy said deciding on the more traditional bed frame with a slatted head board.
Beth looked at it. "I said not to worry about the price."She waved the clerk back over to them before telling him that they would like to take the bed frame.
"I'm sorry Miss Dutton, this one only comes in the suite."
Beth looked at him, not phased. "We'll just take the bed."
Lucy could sense the man's discomfort. "I'll talk to the manager."
"Good." Beth told him as he walked away. "Before I really put my foot down on it, there isn't another one you want?"
"Not that isn't in a suite." Lucy told her truthfully. "But I can have any. It doesn't matter."
Beth smiled at her, shaking her head.
A different man approached them this time as Lucy was trying out the mattresses, keeping her feet in the air.
"I apologise about the mix up, Miss Dutton. We have one in stock if you would like to take it today."
"There is a Yellowstone truck if it can be put in that." Beth told him. "Luce, what mattress have you decided on?" She called out.
"This one here." She called out to them.
"I'll take one of those too." Beth told the man before walking towards the doonas and doona covers. She grabbed a winter and summer doona for Lucy, letting her pick out the quilt cover. She pulled a white quilt cover off the shelf with a matelasse design.
Beth paid for everything whilst it was put in the back of the truck and tied down.
Beth parked the car back at the lodge. "Rip will unload it later." She told Lucy.
Lucy was more preoccupied with drawing out her bedside table, drawers and desk. She drew out a bedside table with a single slim drawer and cupboard. For the drawers she wanted four longer drawers with the top one split in to two. As for the desk she wasn't too bothered by what that looked like and was happy for a normal table.
"Do we have a tape measure?" Lucy asked Beth.
"What for?"
"Work out how much space I have for furniture."
Beth shook her head. "Go see if Rip is down at the stables." She said looking over Lucy's shoulder at the drawings. Lucy got up holding her drawings in one hand and rode her bike down there.
John strode out of the barn as Lucy braked on her bike.
"Lucy." He said with a nod.
"Hi. You seen my Dad?"
"I haven't. Is there something I can do?" John asked. He felt slightly uncomfortable because he was trying not make whatever their relationship was, worse.
Lucy looked up at him. "Yeah. I need a tape measure. My Mom said there might be one here?" She held up her drawings.
"Follow me." John said walking ahead to another smaller shed. "Rip said you were going to build some stuff."
"Uh-huh. We're going to make a bedside table, desk and drawers." She showed him her drawings. "I just need to measure it out."
John rummaged through piles and boxes before pulling out a tape measure and passing it to her.
"I mentioned it to Rip but if you any help, I'm happy to." John said.
Lucy nodded, thanking him before grabbing her bike.
"Oi!" Rip yelled seeing Lucy. She turned around on her bike peddaling over to him.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I drew these and was going to measure it before you got home." She told him passing the paper. Rip looked at them all, nodding his approval.
"Good. Did you get a bed?"
"Yeah, it's in the truck still. Mom said you'd put it together."
"Hmmph. Of course she did." He said.
"Can I spend some time here with you?" Lucy asked.
"You wanna stay down here?" He asked surprised before she nodded. "All right. I'll let Beth know."
He called Beth telling her that Lucy was going to stay down with him before walking away out of her earshot. "There is a rodeo on tonight and Jimmy's in it."
"She has school tomorrow."
"I know but I told her I would take her to the next one."
"Rip. She has school tomorrow. No."
"Honey, I gave her my word and I won't have her home late."
"Now I can't come?"
"I didn't think you'd want to." He said hearing nothing on the end of the line. "We need to leave at 5pm."
"Make sure she's been home before we leave." Beth told him before hanging up.
Rip walked back over to Lucy who was showing her plans to Jake. "Don't trust him kid, he can't build a damn box if his life depending on it."
Jake laughed the comment off, leaving to tend to his horse.
"What do you want to do?" He asked Lucy. She shrugged her shoulders.
"I dunno." She said looking around before noticing some women she hadn't seen before riding the horses. "What are they doing?
Rip looked over seeing Jimmy's new flame riding one of the horses with her friend from the circuit. "It's called barrel racing. Basically, they ride as fast as they can around the three barrel's before going for the chute."
Lucy watched them practice, holding her own breath as they turned each barrel. "Cool."
"Sorry sweetheart but you will not be doing any competing at rodeos."
"What, why?"
"Beth will kill me for starters, but no child of mine will be seen on the circuit. You'll see why tonight."
"Oh look at those dam buckle bunnies." Lloyd said coming to stand next to them.
"Tonight?" She said looking at Rip. "Buckle what?" She turned looking at Lloyd, confused.
"A cowboys groupie." Lloyd told her with a laugh. "Ya'll coming tonight?"
"Yeah, we'll meet you all there." Rip told Lloyd.
"Are we really going?"
Rip nodded. "I told you I'd take you to the next one."
Lucy grinned. "So can you plan the stuff out with me? Can you finish early?" She asked.
Rip shook his head. "It's only lunchtime now. I'll get us lunch and we can have a look." He said walking towards the bunkhouse.
Lucy followed behind, screwing her face up at the smell inside.
"What you lot got?" Rip asked looking over the stove at the boiling pot.
"I don't know what Ethan is trying to make." Jimmy said.
"Yeah we ain't eating that. Come on Lucy." Rip said opening the door.
"Can we see if Gator has something?" She asked.
Jimmy sighed. "I wish Gator could make something for us."
"Maybe you all should learn how to make yourselves something decent." Rip told them before leaving. "Come on you." He said to Lucy striding off towards the lodge.
She caught up to him before going ahead slightly to find Gator. They had formed their own little friendship.
"Hey Gator! Any thing my Dad and I can have?" She called out walking in to the kitchen. "Oh you're still here?" She said seeing the lady the John had over the other day.
"Where's your Mom today huh?" She said in a smart arse tone.
"At home." Lucy said as if it was the most obvious thing. "Where is John?"
"Recovering from earlier." She said with a smirk.
Lucy frowned at that comment, Rip overheard as he closed the door.
"Do you mind?" He said taking his hat off and hanging it on the hook. "Gator." Rip said offering him a nod.
Summer, John's guest, looked at the cowboy in front of her. He was tall with a rugged appearance and dark hair. Relatively easy on the eye she thought.
"Who are you?" She asked looking him up and down.
"Gross. That's my Dad." Lucy said, now over the entire conversation. Rip took the bag that Gator handed over as he told them there were some sandwiches, fruit and Lucy's favourite cookies inside.
He steered Lucy's shoulders out of the lodge, closing the door behind him.
"Why didn't you say anything!?"
"I don't need to Lucy. Saying nothing says enough to people like that." He told her unlocking the door to the shed full of tools. He dusted off the bench top for Lucy to sit on while he leaned against it, taking a sandwich out for each of them.
"What kind of wood is your bed?"
"Dark." Rip gave her a look. "I don't know what it was called. But like that I think?" She said pointing to a piece of mahogany timber stacked against the opposite wall.
"Mahogany." He picked up the paper as Lucy handed him the tape measure. "I'll work out the length and width's and you write down the measurements." He held the tape measure out against the workbench to determine what length Lucy's desk should be, then doing the same for her bedside table. He had a look at the mahogany in the shed, none of the pieces large enough for what they needed.
"I'll drop you home."
"Can't I stay?"
"I need to get back to work and Beth wants you home before we all go tonight."
"But my bike."
"I'll get it in the morning when I have the truck."
He parked the car at the lodge, getting out to look at the furniture in the truck still. The sky was clear, unlikely to rain. He decided it could all stay in the truck until they got home from the rodeo and they would borrow a different truck for the night.
Rip stuck his head inside telling them both that he would be back in a few hours for the rodeo.
"What do I wear?" Lucy yelled out to Beth from her bedroom.
"Anything." Beth yelled back to her.
"That doesn't help!" She said sticking her head around her bedroom door.
"Jeans and a jumper is fine." Beth told her going to hers and Rip's room to get changed herself. Beth came out shortly after dressed in a long sleeve dress, boots and jacket.
Lucy came down the stairs jumping off the last two in black jeans, her boots and a moss green knitted sweater. "Well you're dressed way nicer." Lucy said half-heartedly to Beth, turning to go up the stairs.
"Lucy, you look good. You don't need to get changed. Rip is going to be here soon and we'll be going."
"I don't want to look silly!" Rip opened the door right at the moment with a few things in hand.
"Ready to go." He said looking at Beth before seeing the look on Lucy's face. "Or not."
Beth shook her head, thinking that Lucy was over-reacting. "Go get changed, you're dirty. We're fine here." She told him.
"I got these for you." He passed Lucy a shirt and jacket.
"What are they?"
"They're yours." Rip told her with a smile. Lucy held them out in front of her looking at the matching black shirt to what Rip normally wore with the Yellowstone insignia and Dutton Ranch written in the left hand side and her name on the right.
"Oh." She said surprised before looking at the jacket, the same as Rip's except in a smaller size.
Rip came down in his fresh shirt and jacket. "Aren't you going to put yours on?"
Lucy looked at Beth. "Go on. Put your blue jeans on, I don't want you wearing too much black."
"Now you look the part. Let's go." He told her when she came down with a smile on her face. "Beth's car to the bunkhouse and then we'll take a truck."
"My car is perfectly fine."
"Honey, there is absolutely no chance we are taking it to the rodeo."
"Come on!" Lucy complained from the backseat.
"You didn't need to buy her the clothes either."
"Everyone from the ranch that will be there tonight will be in the same shirt. She's one of us, let her feel like it tonight." He told her not wanting to argue.
At the bunkhouse the wranglers were dividing themselves up in to the remaining trucks.
"Hey! Quit being a chicken and ride with Rip." Teeter told Walker. "I'm with Colby."
"Not a fucking chance." Rip said loud enough for Beth to hear. "He's not riding with us. You make room for him. You hear me." He said pointing at the rest of the wranglers. Rip opened the back seat door for Lucy before getting the door for Beth.
Jimmy and Lloyd had left a few hours earlier needing to prepare before the rodeo.
"How long is the drive?" Lucy asked.
Beth and Rip looked at each other. "40 minutes." Beth told her not turning around.
Lucy sighed but didn't say anything. Rip checked on her in the rear view mirror before turning his attention back to the road.
"Hey, so.. Dad?"
"Hmm?"
"How close can we get to the rodeo?"
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Like when they were practicing in the pen the other day, can we get that close?"
"No." Beth said.
Not liking the answer she got, Lucy fired up. "Why not? Nothing even happened that day."
"Because Rip was there. I said no."
"That's bullshit."
"Hey. Cut the shit." Beth said turning around in her seat. "I told you no and that's final."
"I wasn't asking you anyway!" Lucy responded with her arms crossed challenging Beth.
"What did you say?" Beth asked daring her to say it again.
"You heard me."
Rip had, had enough and pulled off to the side of the road. The first Yellowstone truck that was behind him continuing, with the rest pulling in behind him to see what was the matter. He stuck his arm out and waved them on before they pulled back on to the road one by one.
"Listen to me and listen well. You either accept the answer you've been given and we go or I'll turn around this truck now and we can go home and you'll go straight to bed."
"I'm not six!"
"Well stop acting like it. Your choice." Rip told her.
Lucy didn't want him to turn around and she didn't doubt that if they did she would be sent to her room. Although she hated how Beth gave her one word answers and wouldn't explain why she wasn't allowed to do things. She turned her head to look away from both Rip and Beth who were turned around in their seats looking at her.
He went to ask her for an answer but Beth tapped his arm telling him to keep driving.
They pulled up next to the other Yellowstone trucks and Lucy was quick to get out of the truck, slamming the door.
"That's it." Rip said frustrated before he and Beth got out.
"Leave it."
"You're letting her get away with that."
"No. I guarantee she'll come back within ten minutes. You watch." Beth said taking his hand. "Breathe baby. You know her better than you think."
Beth was right, they saw Lucy wandering around the stands looking for them both about 15 minutes later when they had gotten themselves a drink and found the seats with everyone else.
"Where's the kid?" Ryan asked.
"Off sulking." Rip answered not looking at him.
"What happened?"
"None of your business Ryan." Rip told him.
Lucy spotted Beth and Rip along with nearly everyone else including Gator, from the Ranch except for Jimmy and Lloyd. Beth made eye contact with her nodding for her to come up to them. Lucy looked at the rows of people before shaking her head, worried. She looked to see if there was a different way to get there but saw no other route. She didn't want to climb over people and was worried about talking to Beth and Rip after the car trip.
Beth tapped Rip's forearm before whispering in his ear. He shook his head but stood with her and followed her down to where Lucy was.
"Come on." Beth told her walking ahead. Rip went to put his hand on her shoulder but pulled away noticing her flinch.
She didn't know why she did it. She didn't think Rip would hurt her but it was almost like instinct.
Rip frowned, it was probably best for Beth to handle this one, he decided.
"Where are we going?" Lucy asked to Beth's turned back.
Beth stopped walking, stopping in front of a park bench. "Sit down." She told Lucy tilting her head.
She looked between the two adults before sitting.
"I'm going to the bathroom." Rip said walking away before Beth could say anything.
"Damn chicken." She muttered sitting down. "Well." She said looking at Lucy. "You want to tell me what that display was about?"
"You're the one who snapped at me." Lucy said as if it was obvious. Beth gave her a pointed look, hinting otherwise. "You just tell me what to do! You never give me a reason. It's just 'No.'" She said making inverted commas with her fingers. "Why couldn't you just ask me for once, why I asked? And then Dad gets all mad at me as if I'm the one who did something wrong!" She finished her outburst kicking the dirt with her boot.
"Hey. Look at me." Beth said as Lucy avoided her gaze. She waited until Lucy looked in to her own blue eyes. She could see the anger and frustration in them mixed with something else Beth couldn't help but think was fear. A thing, she didn't want Lucy to know. "If I was to let you do everything you wanted I don't know that you would be here. You are a risk taker and that is ok because you're young but baby I refuse to watch you put yourself in danger and being near the bucking broncos is too much. I will not live in a world without you and your Dad."
"But if Dad's there with me, I'll be safe? I just wanted to take photos."
Beth shook her head realising that Lucy had missed the point as Rip re-joined them at the most convienent moment for him. "Come on then, let's go." He announced. Beth stood before looking down at Lucy nodding. She walked ahead of them both back to the seats. Rip a few paces behind her. He felt a pull on his jacket sleeve.
"What is it?" He said to Lucy.
"I was a brat before."
"You were."
"I just wanted her to give me a reason. It's alway 'no', you know?"
Rip nodded. "Talking back and having the last say isn't helpful either."
Lucy sat between Beth and Rip watching the rodeo, she felt on edge, unsure if she was still in the bad books with Beth and Rip. She felt a bit more relaxed when Rip pointed something out to her in the competition, explaining it to her.
Kayce and Monica climbed the stairs with Tate behind them. They squeezed past the people sitting in the row in front of everyone else, taking their seats.
"Lucy, this is Tate, our son." Kayce said looking up at the row behind him.
Tate turned and have a wave. "Hey."
"Hello."
"Like the rodeo?" He asked.
"It's not bad. I don't really know what's going on."
Tate smiled. "You'll get the hang of it. You'll have to living on the ranch." He told her before turning back around.
"Jimmy is up in two guys time." Ethan leant across to tell everyone. The first of the saddle bronc riders went, coming off the bucking bronc quickly, the second rider barely lasting any longer. Lucy winced as the rider fell before getting back up to the crowd cheering.
John sat down on the other side of Beth with Summer beside him. She was complaining the moment her arse touched the seat.
Beth rolled her eyes before getting Rip's attention. She nodded at Lucy's head before tilting her head to the chute. Rip shook his head slightly before standing.
"Let's go Lucy."
"Where?"
"Thought you wanted to get close to the action?" He asked her.
Lucy's eyebrows raised. She nodded. "Thank ya Mama." She told Beth putting on a thicker accent.
Beth shook her head, telling her to go.
Rip walked down to the chute with Lucy. Speaking to Lloyd who was with Jimmy.
"Dad." Lucy said wanting his attention.
"Yeah. Go on." He said giving her a nod knowing she wanted to climb the fence. Lucy climbed up stopping before the top rung, hanging on the outside of the fence. Unlike the young adults who were dangling their legs over on the inside of the fence.
Lloyd yelled at Jimmy who was distracted by something as he was getting ready to sit on the bronc. Rip left them to it.
"Sweetheart, be careful." Rip said coming to stand next to her.
"Ok. Ok." She said taking photos as Jimmy sat on the bronc and the gate was opened. They heard Jimmy yell and the crowd cheer.
Rip stood next to Lucy watching her take photos and focusing on Jimmy, realising this ride was not going to plan. The bronc bucked and bucked around the fence getting closer to where Lucy and Rip were. Some of the young adults had jumped off the fence to move away.
They watched as Jimmy's body was being thrown around like a rag doll. Lucy started to climb down the fencing, Rip grabbed her, pulling her in to his chest as the bronc flung Jimmy off in to the fence with a sickening crunch.
Beth stood up from where she was sitting in the crowd, trying to find Lucy and Rip. John turned from the conversation he was having with another rancher in time to see Jimmy come off.
"Jesus Christ." He said as he stood. Lloyd was in the arena running towards Jimmy as the gate was opened for the ambulance.
"You ok?" Rip asked Lucy keeping her back turned to the scene behind them.
"Is he ok?" Lucy asked in shock.
"Look at me Lucy." Rip told her. He held her face in his hands. "I want you to go straight to Beth. Don't turn around."
John moved to make his way down to the arena. "Dad! Lucy was on the fence. I can't see her or Rip." Beth called out. He stopped and turned to look at her giving her a nod.
"Move." He said pushing past people. People were gathering around where Jimmy lay trying to see what was going on.
"Mr Dutton." Lloyd yelled out over the people. "We're going to the hospital."
John looked down at Jimmy who looked horrific as they put him on a stretcher with a temporary neck brace on. "Go." He told them, turning to look for Lucy.
Lucy shocked her head at Rip's request for her to go back to Beth. "I can't."
"You have to. I need to help Jimmy. Give me that phone." He said thinking to go through the photos later. Lucy handed it over before Rip directed her to go to Beth again, this time going. He watched her for a moment to make sure she didn't turn around, not wanting her to see Jimmy.
Rip jumped the fence, going to the ambulance where Jimmy was loaded up.
John moved through the people before he spotted Lucy's head. He pushed harder before getting to her.
"Lucy! Are you ok?" John called out, touching her arm. She jumped in response.
"I just need Beth. Yeah. I'm looking for Beth." She told him almost like she was on auto pilot. John was surprised, he didn't think she normally called Beth by her first name.
"All right. Follow me." He said going up the grandstand to where Beth was. "I've got her Beth." He called out over the people, getting her attention.
"Fucking move it!" Beth yelled so Lucy could get past.
"Jimmy's hurt." Was the first things Lucy said. "Thrown in to the fence and the sound. I heard everything crack!"
"Where's Rip?" Beth asked.
"Down there." Lucy pointed to the fence not realising that he was coming up the stairs.
"She all right?" He asked Beth.
"I don't know." Both John and Beth said.
Rip put his hands on Lucy's shoulders asking if she was ok.
"I found Beth." She told him.
"I know." He said. Beth frowned hearing Lucy refer to her as 'Beth'. Rip noticed her reaction. "Stay with your Mama for me. I'm going to get the truck."
Monica and Kayce looked up concerned before leaving the rodeo with Tate.
Beth sat down and pulled Lucy down to sit with her. "Come here. It's me, Lucy. You're all right." She whispered. The other cowboys were starting to disperse, John remained standing off to the side keeping an eye on Beth and Lucy.
Lucy looked at Beth, holding her gaze. She took a shallow breath before tears broke the damn wall.
Beth sat up a bit straighter, taken by surprise. "Oh. You're fine. Don't cry." She said, still pulling her in to her side giving her a hug.
"Rip's got the truck there." John interrupted, pointing it out. "Do you need a hand?"
"I got it." Beth said, pulling a sniffling Lucy up with her. Rip had pulled the truck up to the gate that the ambulance had left through, waiting for Beth and Lucy.
The drive back to the cabin was silent other than the sound of Lucy's sniffles before the sound of her even breaths as she fell asleep.
"Her bed isn't set up." Beth said when they got to the cabin.
Rip sighed. "All right. Let her sleep with you, I'll set it up tonight."
Beth woke Lucy up before they went upstairs while Rip unloaded the other truck. "Our room tonight baby." Beth told her.
"Is Jimmy gonna die?" She asked putting her head down on the pillow.
"I don't think so." Beth said, not fully believing her own words. "Close your eyes." She told Lucy. Beth listened as Rip brought up the furniture, cursing quietly as he put it together.
