Natsu feels more grounded the next week after. The captain let him back to work a few days after and he's grateful for the break honestly. Mostly after Gray and Igneel talking some sense into him. Not that Gray needed the reassurance to his ego.
They were right though. He'd been so blind and let his overwhelmed mind push away what his heart had been telling him the whole time.
That he was so in love with Lucy.
Probably had always been as soon as they met. How could he not? She'd quickly become one of his best friends, she was kind, beautiful, funny, amazing. Lucy just opened up his heart in a way he wasn't expecting, especially once they became something more. He definitely didn't deserve her... but he'll be damned if he doesn't fight for her.
Because she was right too, he doesn't want this to end either. It was the best thing that's happened to him and he doesn't want to lose her because he fucked things up.
And he did, royally. Each time he thinks back to her coming to talk to him and the hurt flashing across her face each time he couldn't even pull any words together and the deep disappointment in those eyes by the end still makes guilt ache sharply in his chest.
Natsu didn't like the excuse that he simply wasn't prepared or expecting to see her, but it was true. He'd been so wrapped up in the messy thoughts in his head for so long, he couldn't even get anything out the way he wanted when she suddenly appeared in front of him and just made things worse. It took so much for him to hold back and not rush to pull her into his arms as soon as he saw her tears, and the moment she walked away, but how could he when he pushed her to this much pain in the first place.
Natsu's still disappointed and frustrated with himself for letting it get to that point, more so once he'd finally managed to get his phone replaced the other day and saw all the missed texts and notifications come through, making his eyes prick and heart heavy.
He should've done more. Tried harder, put in more effort. More to communicate, more to just be there for them. No matter what was going on with him. Especially for Kade, who definitely didn't deserve to be confused and hurt either. There's so much he wishes he would've done differently, but he can't change the past and can only move forward. Now that he has a better handle on his feelings and head, he feels like he's in a better place to try and reach out and patch things up hopefully.
He understands Lucy's probably still upset and hurt when his first couple texts and calls go unanswered for a few days, which he expects and deserves. He just hopes she can give him another chance eventually.
Natsu slumps onto his bed this morning, finally off after a long, hectic overnight shift at the station filled with more calls than he could count, groaning with a deep stretch as he's ready to knock out. The ache in his back still lingers from before, but it was way better than it's been.
Happy and Ollie are quick to follow and scramble up on the bed too with loud mews, making him chuckle softly as he gives them some pets and flips on his tv for some background noise.
He hears his phone vibrating on the nightstand, groaning, he rolls over and doesn't bother looking at the screen to see who's calling, probably just Gray to bother him anyway, and he picks up and answers with a sleepy mumble against his pillow.
"Hi," a soft warm familiar voice says back.
Natsu instantly perks up. "Lucy! H-Hi," he rasps, clearing his throat and quickly moving around and sitting up against the headboard, wincing as he knocks his head on it a bit.
"I got your messages," Lucy starts softly. "It's just been a hectic week and just getting a chance to breathe and get caught up."
"N-No it's totally ok," Natsu rasps. "Thanks for getting back to me. I… I hope you're doing ok?"
"Getting there," Lucy sighs and there's a long quiet pause before she continues. "So, I take it you finally got a new phone?" He can hear the tired smile, with that bit of lingering sadness that still hurts his heart.
Natsu swallows thickly. "Yeah, finally," he huffs a soft breath before he pauses. "I, uh, I'm sorry. Again." he pauses. "I just- I really messed up, Luce," he sighs deeply. "If... Can you please give me another chance so we can talk?" His voice shakes by the end.
"I admit I was busy with work, but part of me also needed time to think things over after the other week," Lucy starts softly after a long moment. "I appreciate you reaching out. And the apologies, then and now," Lucy says softly.
Natsu's chest aches after she takes another long pause. It felt like she was going to say no, so he just put his heart out there.
"I... I know I disappointed and hurt you both... more than I can make up for, but I-I promise I want to fight for this. For us. I really don't want this to end either," he whispers.
Lucy takes another couple long beats of quiet. "Well, I think I can make some time for you then."
Natsu can hear the soft smile and tease in her voice and it makes the tight knot in his chest loosen with a sigh of relief.
"Thank you," Natsu breathes with a small smile too.
"If you have some time off, you can come over this weekend? After Kade's down for the night... I don't want to get his hopes up just yet," she adds softly.
"Y-Yeah, I understand," Natsu swallows thickly. "I, uh, I just got off a pretty long week of shifts actually so that's perfect."
"Hm, no wonder why it sounded like you were half asleep when you picked up."
Natsu's chest flutters at the playful tone in her voice. "No, of course not. I always stay vigilant," Natsu chuckles.
The soft laugh Lucy breathes soothes his heart and makes it ache more at the same time. He missed that sound so much.
Missed her so much.
"Hm. Sure. Sounds like a plan though."
Natsu agrees and when the call ends, he feels lighter than he has in a long time.
But the next day came up quickly, and now he's all full of nerves as he finishes getting ready to head over to Lucy's in a bit.
Should he bring something? Did this look ok? Should he change his clothes and wear something better?
The cats mrowl at him in reprimand from where they watch him on his bed, fidgeting with the collar of his shirt with a huff.
"You're right. I'm overthinking it as always, thanks guys," Natsu sighs, slipping on a jacket to be done with it. "Ok, I'm off, be back later." He gives them some pets as they both just yawn and purr away. What a life.
The drive blurs by and before he knows it, he's parked in front of her familiar house he hasn't been to in a while and his stomach is more in knots when he lets her know he's here and raps his knuckles on the door.
Natsu takes a deep steadying breath, shutting his eyes closed for a moment.
He really hopes he can make things right. There's too much to lose.
There's the sound of the door opening, and when he opens his eyes again Lucy's there in the doorway with a soft expression.
She's beautiful as ever in her comfy clothes, hair tied up loosely.
Natsu aches to reach out and pull her close and hold her, kiss her... but he settles for a warm smile and a soft "Hi", running a hand through his hair at the back of his head.
Lucy graces him with a soft smile back. "Hi."
She leads him through the house, saying Kade is already asleep, out to the back patio where there's some fairy lights he'd helped her string up a while back. Natsu's grateful it's cool out tonight, his skin is already flushed.
"Speaking of the wild kid, how's he been doing?" Natsu asks softly, figuring it's a safe start, taking a sip of the water she'd offered him.
Lucy smiles warmly. "He's been great. Growing, making more friends at daycare. I've been getting paperwork started to put him in kindergarten soon."
"Ah, that's great!" Natsu grins. "Sure he'll be excited if he's not already."
"Definitely. Claire told me Noah is going to be starting too, so of course he's gotten Kade even more excited and eager," Lucy chuckles softly. "It's such a big step, they would start already at the end of the month, I already get emotional thinking about it."
Natsu's expression softens.
"Well, he already gets his smarts from you so you'll both be great," he tries warmly.
"Thank you," Lucy gives him a small genuine smile.
They catch up with a bit more small talk before Natsu feels the words fizzle out. He takes it as an opening.
He clears his throat. "Well, um, first, I know you're probably tired of hearing me apologize, but I am sorry. For not handling things well when you came to the station. It's not an excuse but I wasn't expecting to see you and couldn't even get any of the right words out and just made things worse," he huffs, wringing his fingers together. "I have a bad habit of choosing distance and isolating myself when things get overwhelming and a lot, and doing that to you without saying anything was so shitty of me. You're right, we're building something together. Something that means so much to me and it was wrong to ignore that. Especially with Kade," Natsu pauses to wince, chest aching. "I should've known it would affect him a lot too. Hurting him and making him sad is the last thing I ever wanted to do. There's so much I wish I would've done differently, for both of you," he swallows thickly.
"While I wish things didn't have to reach this point, life is full of mistakes, and should've, could've, would'ves. I let out a lot of my own frustration on you last time, but I do accept your apologies," Lucy says softly, reaching out to grip his forearm that was on the armrest of the chair beside her. The soft touch sends warmth zipping through him. "Though... what's been going on that's gotten to you so much?" she asks.
Natsu swallows thickly, already feeling the words bubble up and get stuck in his chest. "It's a bit complicated."
"Mental health is never easy and if you're going through something or struggling that much, you know you're not alone. You don't have to talk about everything if you don't want to, but you know you can tell me anything. You're still my best friend after all," Lucy smiles warm, still a little sad.
Natsu gives her a soft one in return, reaching over to give the hand that was still resting on him a squeeze. "You're still mine too. Always. I just-" He groans internally.
Why was this so hard? She deserves to know how he feels but...
"Do you not trust me or feel like you can't anymore?"
Her voice is small and shaking and Natsu hates that he's causing her more hurt in those honeyed eyes again, thinking she's the cause and doubting herself. It makes his eyes quickly prick over.
"No, that's not it I promise I-" Natsu starts to reassure strongly. His heart is aching so much it hurts, mess of emotions bubbling over he can't take it anymore.
"It's because I love you!"
The words push past his breathless lungs before she could think of another reason she could be at fault, and it's too late to take them back now.
The air freezes between them, Lucy's eyes wide, her hand gripped in between both his palms now.
"I-I love you, Lucy." Just being able to say it is thrilling and sets his heart on fire. "And I got scared and overwhelmed by just how much I do. You've changed my life for the better in so many ways and every moment we've been together has been amazing. I started to feel something deeper and I didn't know what to do when it was clear just what it was. I've never felt this way for anyone and I didn't want it to scare you off or hurt you if it wasn't what you wanted, so I wasn't sure if I should tell you, but you deserve to know. It was never your fault for anything."
It's quiet for a long couple of moments. Honey eyes were still wide, and she still hadn't said anything.
That... that wasn't really a good sign was it.
"Lucy?..." He breathes out. Unease settles in Natsu's already tight chest.
Was this the wrong choice after all? Was it too much for her too? What if she just wanted to keep things simple and here he went and fucked it all up after all… after all his worry about losing her, scaring her, he probably did it anyway. She probably didn't feel the same... Too much too fast.
Natsu swallows thickly, his heart falling. "I-I'm sorry. Didn't mean to push this on you all at once, um, I understand if you don't feel the same or want to do this anymore if it's too much?" Natsu rasps.
Lucy's gaze was still wide and far off somewhere he couldn't reach. He shouldn't keep pushing and making things worse again instead of fixing things like he wanted to come here for.
What was he expecting? She was just starting to talk to him again, why did he have to go and be an idiot again? Ugh!
Natsu breathes a deep shuddering sigh, accepting things for now.
"I'll- um, head out now and give you some space," he says, voice rough and pushing past the thick lump of emotion in his throat. He softly gets up and places her hand in her lap before turning around. "I'm sorry," he barely gets out above a whisper.
Maybe he shouldn't have trusted his heart after all.
If Lucy had a hard time focusing before, her brain is basically useless now and has been for the past couple days. So much so, she just went ahead and took some time off work. She definitely wouldn't be able to think there either.
There's only been one thing echoing in her mind…
"Because I love you!"
Lucy's still been wrapping her own head around the weight Natsu's words held.
He... loves her. He loves her.
Wow.
She really should've said something, not leave things the way they did. But she'd been so distracted by her frantic thoughts, by the time she snapped back into the moment, a hurt expression had fallen across his face and he was gone.
Just thinking about it still makes her heart ache.
It was the last thing she was expecting to hear during their talk. She was just happy he put in the effort to reach out and acknowledge the hurt, distance, and here he was communicating the way she asked him to and then to open up his heart to tell her something as big as…
Love ?
The thought still made her flush all over. It was… overwhelming, and a little scary if she was being honest with herself.
Lucy really cares about Natsu, so much, but was it love ?
To think he felt this strongly for her all this time, was so enduring, but it was something she's never felt for anyone and there's so many confusing feelings rushing through her that she couldn't even start to pinpoint. Or even put into words to think to say to him.
How quickly things had turned around.
Lucy just came back home after dropping off Kade at daycare this morning, almost ready to flop back down in bed when there's knocking at her door a few minutes later. Confused, she walks over and peeks through the blinds on the window beside the door and sees a flash of blue hair, knowing it could only be one person.
Levy excitedly greets her when Lucy opens the door, Lisanna smiling brightly behind her.
"You guys!" Lucy laughs, hugging them both and bringing them inside. "What are you doing here?"
"Lucy, you can only say you're "fine" so many times and then call out sick from work for two days and give me no warning," Levy huffs. "So we came for an emergency debriefing session with provisions," she says, holding up what looks like bags of food.
"Yeah, we've been worried about you and haven't seen you in a while," Lisanna says, concern in her eyes. "What's been going on?"
Lucy's chest aches. She has been a little guilty of shutting down and being a bit distant with her friends since she's been getting a handle on things with Natsu the past few weeks, and more so with all these new feelings. She's also still getting used to having girlfriends like them, genuine people who care about her and put in effort and it's sometimes still hard to accept it all.
Lucy sighs with a small, guilty smile and leads them to the living room where they get set up.
"Ok, ok. You're right, I'm sorry I haven't really been present. I admit, things have been… a lot for a while," Lucy sighs, taking a sip from one of the drinks they brought. The girls were attentive right away as Lucy starts going over the last long stretch of time. The distance, hurt feelings, Kade's hurt feelings, her visit with Natsu, and everything in between.
"Then he came over to talk again, and it was going well, it felt good to just be close and talking again…" Lucy swallows thickly. "But then it got to this point where my self doubt kept bubbling up and then he tells me… he loves me." Her stomach flutters instantly just whispering it.
She hears the girls gasp.
"Ah, that's amazing! Lisanna grins brightly, Levy matching it. "What did you say?"
"N-Nothing, I was so surprised and taken off guard! I quickly got lost in my messy thoughts and by the time I realized I hadn't even said anything for a while Natsu had this hurt look on his face and mumbled about having to leave then was gone," Lucy sighs with a shaky breath. "Now I'm the one who probably messed things up."
"Oh, Lucy," Levy says softly, moving to sit closer next to her on the couch, palm smoothing along her shoulder. "I doubt that's true."
"Yeah, you guys are still working through things and there's gonna be some bumps," Lisanna starts warmly. "Someone confessing something big like that can be a lot, but... do you feel the same?"
Lucy swallows thickly, chest feeling tight. "That's what I was thinking about the whole time and the past few days I... I've just never felt that strongly for anyone so I'm not sure? It's just been me and Kade all these years and it's been hard for me to trust people and let them in after certain people in my past... then I met you all and Natsu and we've just gotten closer and have just felt so at home. Which I've never felt and I'm so grateful. I care about him so much, but is it love? It's not too much too soon? What if I put myself into this fully and we just end up hurt again? There's already been so much pain in my past too, what if it becomes too much for Natsu too and he really leaves... it already hurt enough thinking he didn't want this now." She knows she's rambling, but her frantic thoughts just kept coming and it's making her chest ache more and tears prick her eyes.
"Lucy," Lisanna whispers, reaching over to squeeze her hand over Lucy's from where she'd moved to sit closer on the coffee table in front of her. "I know you're scarred from your past hurt. No one is perfect and we all carry some kind of baggage from it, but look how far you've come. I can confidently say for all of us that we're so proud of you," she says warmly. "But also, don't let all that keep you back in fear and let it have hold over you. Nothing is guaranteed and yeah there may be some more hurt and disappointment along the way because life isn't perfect either, but you absolutely deserve every bit of good in your life no matter what your head tries to tell you. What you and Natsu have together is too good and pure to lose."
Yeah, definitely can't stop the tears now. "Lis," she breathes with a wet chuckle.
"She's totally right, Lucy," Levy eagerly agrees. "It's hard to not keep all the hurt of our past that we've carried for so long close to our hearts and let it harden, let it blur our vision of the future, but it's ok to let those walls lower bit by bit and allow yourself to feel love, be loved," Levy smiles softly with a squeeze to Lucy's other hand. "There's also no perfect timeline for love either. It can just hit you all at once and it can be scary, beautiful, thrilling, overwhelming, and everything in between for sure, especially for the first time, and it's ok because it's your own. It's never too much to feel either, because we love you, Natsu definitely loves you, you're definitely in love with him, and you're worthy of all of it." Her smile gets a bit playful by the end.
From what Lucy could see through her blurry vision anyway.
"You guys are too kind," Lucy says through another sob of a laugh, bringing them in for a tight hug.
"Never enough for you, Lucy!" Levy hugs her back just as tight as Lisanna laughs softly.
Lucy's able to gather herself enough after a long moment. "Thank you both," she sighs. "So, you both really think it's love, huh?" she smiles warmly and a little playful, the tight ache in her chest loosening.
"Oh, absolutely," Lisanna smiles brighter, knowingly, as she settled back into the armchair. "We can't say for how you were before, but we've never seen you happier than when you and Kade are with Natsu. And we've definitely never seen Natsu this happy either. Which is why we noticed something was going on too because he seemed so out of it for a while and it makes sense why now," she says with a sympathetic look.
"I'm sure it was overwhelming for him to wrap his head around too and it sounds like him to get lost in his head and distance himself, but I'm glad he didn't let his own fear hold him back, realized he made a mistake and just put his heart out there," Levy says.
"I really appreciated his effort too, even though I didn't handle it that well," Lucy huffs, running a hand through her hair. "I was, am overwhelmed, but I just- I think about everything we've been through, how quickly he became a part of my life, Kade's life, how close we've gotten, how happy he makes us, how much it hurts to think about losing him and what we have and..." she takes a steadying breath, warmth swelling through her as she takes a long pause.
A long pause to look past all the heavy walls she's built around her heart over the years, her insecurities that clouded her mind, to realize the feeling that had been bubbling up in her whenever she was around Natsu the closer they got, every kiss, touch, bright smile. How safe and at home he makes her feel. Especially how kind and thoughtful he'd been on her birthday, giving her so much appreciation that no one else ever had.
She'd felt such an intense warm feeling in her heart that whole day that she couldn't really pinpoint at the time, especially with everything after, but now with some clarity… it could really only be…
Natsu's soft, loving, expression pops up in her mind.
Oh
Lucy's breath hitches.
"W-Wow, it really can hit you at once."
"Does that mean what I hope you mean?" Levy asks eagerly after a moment.
Lucy can only nod with a growing smile and a growing flush all over her, skin tingling.
The girls cheer happily and wrap Lucy up in another big hug that fills Lucy with more warmth.
"Ah, it is thrilling, exciting, and all the feelings... I-I really do love him," Lucy whispers, feeling breathless, strong fluttering in her stomach. "I think I did let my past and everything get in the way, for a lot of things for a long time, and I didn't even fully realize it. It's hard to feel deserving, easy to let the insecurities win, but to let myself fully feel all the things my heart has been trying to tell me all this time is just…"
"I know," Lisanna says softly, giving Lucy's hand another squeeze.
"See, aren't you glad we were here to help you through this very important realization?" Levy smiles playfully, making them laugh warmly.
"Yes!" Lucy laughs softly. "I really am so grateful for you both in general. I get so absorbed in my head most times and it's hard to turn it off."
"Of course! We love you, and would've surely knocked some sense into you about this at some point soon," Lisanna teases.
They share another laugh before Lucy's expression shifts. "But, how do I tell him now? What if it's too late and he thinks I don't feel the same? He put in his own effort to fix things and I haven't even reached out since then," she sighs, running a hand through her hair again.
"I think you both needed this bit of space to get your feelings and heads sorted, but it's not too late and isn't going to take away from his love for you. He may be wallowing in his feelings a bit, but I guarantee he's still willing to make things work," Levy reassures warmly.
"Yeah, just have another heart to heart talk when you're ready. He'll understand," Lisanna smiles warmly.
Lucy grins softly. "I hope so. Y'know, when I realized I had a crush on him my heart was prepared for that. Then we get together, and get closer and of course the logical next step is to fall in love. I've read about it and loved it in so many books, but that's the one thing I wasn't prepared to have it happen to myself," she chuckles.
"I totally get that, but now you can fully embrace it and let your heart lead the way," Levy says warmly.
Lucy looks over to the photo strip of her and Natsu from her birthday that is pinned to the small corkboard above her nightstand beside her that night, heart swelling with warmth and what she finally allows herself to feel is love.
It's so clear now… she really does love him. Of course she does. Even though it took her this long to fully let the feeling in and see that everything that they'd built together was proof he loves her too. That took her long enough to realize too.
She just hopes Natsu can hear her out now too, she doesn't want to lose him.
Lucy fusses over the text to Natsu she tries to craft over the next couple of days, or maybe she should call him instead? What if he didn't answer like before? Unable to decide after too much overthinking as usual, she just decides to go see him in person before she loses her nerve.
She's grateful Claire didn't have any big plans this weekend and was able to watch Kade today for a last minute play date with Noah. It gives her some space to clear her head before she drives over to her first spot to try.
A few good knocks at the door of his apartment makes it clear he's not home. Strike one, she thinks with a sigh.
Lucy runs into Gray at the station and he tells her Natsu's apparently been off work for a few days and hadn't seen him either. Good luck though, he said. She catches the soft, knowing smile before she leaves and it makes her chuckle. Their friends really did see their feelings clearer than they did.
Strike two.
She thinks through the current sports going on at the complex right now and can't think of any he'd be there for. Then a memory of him saying he likes to go to a certain spot at the lake to think pops in her head and she thinks it's worth a shot.
The search had taken up most of the day and the sun was just starting to set when Lucy parks in the lot. She walks around for a bit, smiling softly at the sight of families having fun and enjoying the day. Hopefully that can be her, Kade, and Natsu having fun like that again soon...
Lucy makes a turn and stops as her breath hitches. She spots him at a picnic table underneath some trees. The golden sky was pretty in front of him, and through the fluttering in her heart, it hurts at the tired lines along his shoulders and expression, even from this distance.
She takes a step and her heart starts thumping harder, but she has to do this and her legs are on autopilot.
Too late to turn back now.
Lucy watches him run his hands through his hair and rub over his face as she gets closer. Natsu glances over and does a double take with wide eyes, scrambling up from the bench he was on.
"L-Lucy?"
She can't help herself and rushes the rest of the way, letting her heart take the lead, jumping into his arms with her arms around his neck and kissing him firmly before either of them could get a word in.
Natsu gasps against her and is frozen for a few good moments. Lucy pulls back, palms cupping his face to take her time to look over his features. Those green eyes she loves are swirling with emotions and tinted red... like he's been crying and her heart hurts aches all over again. This roller coaster of emotions they've been on, leading her to this moment, and she can't hold back the weighted words that linger on her tongue now.
"I love you too, Natsu."
The words leave her breathless, but it's freeing and lifted a big weight from her shoulders she didn't know she needed.
Natsu's lips part, eyes wide again. "You- R-really?" he whispers, still seemingly frozen.
"Really," Lucy nods with a soft smile, thumbs brushing along his jaw. "I'm sorry for my own radio silence. It took me a while to see things clearly. I had a little help honestly," she huffs a soft laugh. "But of course I do. I love you, all of you." The more she said it, the more freeing it feels and makes her heart soar. "You've changed my life in more ways than I can thank you for. The warm kindness, happiness, and love you brought into both my and Kade's life means so much and I'll always be grateful."
Natsu's eyes gloss over a little with a rough chuckle, arms slowly wrapping around her to pulling her close for a tight hug and Lucy immediately feels at ease, breathing in his comforting woodsy scent. Safe and warm in his strong arms, right where she missed being. Where she wanted to stay.
"Oh, Luce," he mumbles into her hair before pressing a kiss to her temple. "Wow, I, uh, I definitely wasn't expecting this today," he says with a breathless laugh when he pulls back before his expression turns reflective. "I really thought I scared you off or pushed you away. Or that maybe you didn't want this with me anymore... Which I would've deserved considering how much of an idiot I was..." Natsu reaches up to curl some of her hair behind her ear, expression turning warm and affectionate. "But to think you feel the same is just, more than I could ever hoped for."
Lucy's expression softened, palms smoothing over his chest, feeling his pounding heart beneath. "You wouldn't have deserved that. We both got overwhelmed by our feelings, and didn't handle it all that well. But I was hoping I wasn't too late to find our way back to each other?"
Natsu pulls her closer flush against him with a hum. "Never too late. I'd wait forever for you 'cause you're it for me." His thumb brushes along her jaw and the seam of her bottom lip, making her shiver. "I love you so much, Luce."
Lucy smiles wide and lets the words wash over her, warmth radiating from her heart and all through her to the tips of her toes.
"I love you."
A cute flush spreads across Natsu's cheeks and tips of his ears as he flashes that bright toothy smile that crinkles the corners of his eyes that she'd missed so much. A warm, rough palm caresses her cheek, slipping to the back of her neck before pulling her in for a deeper kiss that she'd been dreaming of. Lucy immediately melts against him as they both groan into the kiss, both pouring all the weeks of emotion into it. Everything they'd missed, everything they'd craved.
"I missed you so much," Natsu rasps, pressing their foreheads together as they finally caught their breath. "I'm sorry."
"Think we've had enough apologies," Lucy smiles softly, threading her fingers through his hair, making him sigh in content. "I really missed you too. How about we start this new chapter together?"
"Sounds perfect," Natsu grins, pulling her in for a tight hug again, and spinning her around this time, making her laugh brightly. "You hear that, everyone! My dream girl loves me!" he suddenly shouts, throwing up a victorious fist. "And I love her more!"
Lucy immediately flushes as the surrounding crowds start cheering, quickly remembering they weren't alone.
"Natsu!" Lucy laughs harder, hiding her face away in his chest that's shaking with his own laughter as he secures his arms back around her fully.
"What? I have a lot of time to make up for."
When she picks up her face again, the golden sun is highlighting his profile as he smiles softly. Gone are any lingering tears or traces of hurt sadness in his expression. Captivating olive green eyes only holding strong affection and love. For her.
It fills her heart with an equally strong feeling and she agrees with a hum and brings him back down for a slower, tender kiss that they smile into.
AH our faves are FINALLY all in their loving feels!
Their friends really had to knock some sense into our dorks in love loll. I love me some dramatic love confessions and couldn't help myself with this one! Figured it'd be fitting since they're young, both experiencing falling in love for the first time and are entitled to be a bit dramatic with it haha
Hope you enjoyed a bit of both their POV's!
Till next time :)
