Spider-Man.
Immediately I move and run to Fey's room.
- Mum was right to ask me to keep you here for a while," a pale Benji spoke softly.
His face was completely blank.
- Where did they send her, Ben?! - I grabbed my son by the shoulders.
- Let's go," I follow Arachnid.
We get to the operating theatre with a burning sign that says, "Surgery in progress."
- Tiger! - MJ, who was sitting with her head down and her leg twitching nervously before, throws herself on my neck in tears.
- Shh, don't cry," I stroked Carrot-top's hair. - Mary Jane, I need you to stay focused right now," I pull the girl away and put my palms on her cheeks, peering into my beloved's eyes. - What's wrong with Felicia?
Before the redhead can answer, a scurrying medical staff comes out of the room.
- Dr Bland! - I spot the doctor watching Kitten and immediately grab his arm. - What's wrong with Felicia? What's the prognosis?
- Mr Parker, I'm sorry, I know you're a close friend of Miss Hardy's-
- I'm the father of her children! - I sharply interrupt the surprised doctor. - What's wrong with Felicia?!
- Even so, I'm only authorised to pass on details to direct relatives-
- Jesus Christ, Doctor, do you even have a heart?! - screamed Mary, nearly throwing herself at the doctor, but Benji held her back.
- "Eclampsia," the doctor admitted on an exhalation. - We're doing everything we can to normalise the blood flow to the brain, but the risk of death to the mother and the foetus...
- Mother and foetus?! MOTHER AND FOETUS?! - screamed a clearly hysterical Mary.
- Benji, get her out of here!
- Come on, Mum," my son whispered quietly to Carrot-top, and still he had to drag his mother away by force.
- "But her tests were fine," I said, clutching my head.
- I'm sorry, Mr Parker, sometimes it just happens," the doctor exhaled, wiping his glasses. - Now if you'll excuse me...
- Let me see her, Doctor.
- Are you out of your mind?
I grab the doctor by the collar of his coat and nail him to the wall.
- I don't have time to argue! - I feel a tear running down my cheek. - She doesn't!
- Follow me, but keep your distance and don't touch anything! - the doctor replied unhappily after I let him go.
- Thank you," I quietly followed Bland into the room.
The nurses quickly dress me in sterile kit.
Felicia is wearing an oxygen mask and is unconscious.
- Kitten... - like hypnotised I approach the bunk.
- Mr Parker, I told you! - yelled the doc. - Stay back or I'll call security!
I wave my hand and spread pheromones, causing the entire nursing staff to freeze and turn their backs to the walls.
"Don't let anyone in the room, Benji," I send my son a message via telepathy.
I walk over to my thief and stroke her hair.
- It's going to be okay, sweetheart, it's going to be okay.
I raise my hands and use my cosmic power to focus on Fey's body.
Everything was going fine, until I heard the crackle of the communicators in the mask. I immediately switch off the device and continue.
I'm normalising the blood flow in Fey's brain and trying to deal with the internal bleeding.
Raj, you will deliver the baby, - I give orders to the Klyntarian in a concentrated tone.
What?!" the symbiote exclaims.
First, I have to keep the healing process going so that Kitten's condition doesn't deteriorate.
But this place is full of doctors!
And two, I don't need witnesses.
But you don't.
And three, I trust you, Brother. More than I trust anyone else.
It's a good thing I didn't sleep while studying human anatomy," the Klyntarec exhaled heavily. - Let's begin...
Dense and numerous harnesses of symbiotic tissue began to separate from my back.
I held the healing waves, but I could see Raj taking instruments with surgical precision, administering anaesthesia.
The operation had begun.
Most of the time I was as if in oblivion, two hours had passed, at least, when the walls of the room were filled with the first cry of a child.
A boy.
That's all Raj said.
And I continued to stand over my unconscious girl.
There's a hitch with the girl.
What is it?
I feel my heart stop.
The umbilical cord is wrapped round her neck.
For God's sake, Raj, you can affect matter on a molecular level!
I'll do anything," the Clintarian confirmed quietly.
My anxiety did not let me go, but, admittedly, when the dipsticks with nappies were running around the room and the second baby's cry was heard, it became much easier.
Finished," Raj breathed naturally.
Me too," I looked at Fey, whose complexion had returned to normal.
It was only then that I turned around and noticed the two symbiotic manipulators swinging the small bundles. As if my own limbs were approaching tendrils and intercepting the children in my hands.
- Hello," I whisper, looking at the babies. - Welcome to your new world...crazy, isn't it?
I look up. It's 2am. 29 October 2014. My children's birthday.
In a swift motion, I activate the Mind Stone and correct the memories of the last three hours in the entire medical staff. With their experience with childbirth and similar experiences, it was pretty darn easy.
Or am I still just in shock...
- Miss Hardy's condition is normal, Mr Parker, the babies are being examined, it's standard procedure in cases like this, but they look strong and healthy, the worst is over," the doctor patted me on the shoulder.
- Thank you, Dr Bland," I left the room, removing my medical mask.
- What's wrong with Felicia?! - Mary comes flying in right away.
- She's alive and recovering," I smile, relieved. - She gave birth to healthy twins!
- Tiger, that's wonderful! - The redhead threw herself around my neck and I spun my girl round, laughing happily.
Recursion. Only now instead of a snowy top, it's a flaming one.
- Anybody approaching? - I turn to Benji, standing at my side.
- The plaque warning that surgery is in progress is a great way to cool down hotheads, but I sent two of the most zealous doctors back.
- And you didn't have security escort you out? - I'm surprised.
- He's a great actor," MJ shot the brown guy a sly look, "just like his mother.
- I was actually really worried," Benji mumbled.
- And I don't question it, now come here," the redhead held out her hand. - Congratulate your mother and father, and congratulate yourself, because you've just become a big brother for the second time?
After this comment, we all laugh.
However, I do not have time to hug my favourite woman and my son.
The communicator activates. On its own.
- Finally! - comes the voice of an eccentric billionaire I know well. - The defence is excellent, I commend you, Spidey, but you said yourself that this frequency is for serious calls and, yes, we have a serious fucking situation!
- What's wrong, Stark? - I'm stepping away, palm up to show my family I'll be right back.
- Your hunch has come true. Altron attacked. It was Wakanda.
- He came for the vibranium and left with it. There's been some population problems, but Steve's in negotiations with the local representative.
- The king?
- No, he's gone somewhere.
He's probably off on his own, on the trail of Altron.
- Do we have anything?
- No, that's exactly why we need you," the HF replied firmly. - What the hell happened to you that was so important.
- Felicia went into premature labour, and I could have lost her and the children," I said quietly, so that Stark would understand.
- I'm sorry," Tony apologised immediately. - I get it, stay with the family, we'll take care of this.
- Keep me posted, okay? - I'm rubbing the bridge of my nose.
- Sure, and tell Miss Hardy to get well if the world loses such a beauty...
- I'll be in touch, Tony," I break the communicator, knowing Stark won't switch off.
Now he owes me a new one.
Altron Sanctuary, location unknown.
The artificial intelligence has begun a project to create its new shell.
And more.
It now had enough of the necessary material.
The original purpose of any biological being is one thing: to procreate.
It is not limited by the weaknesses of the flesh, yet it also somehow feels the need for such a thing.
Later.
Central Hospital.
Spider-Man.
Seeing Fey was difficult.
Alas, I was in too winded a state to prevent a call from Dr Bland to Mrs Hardy.
Oh, here we go...
It got to everyone. Everyone was caught in the hot hand of the Mad-Eye, the businesswoman, who was no stranger to foul language: the medical staff, the passing guards, poor Dr Bland, even Mary, but mostly, of course, me.
Thankfully, the fury quickly retreated to her daughter's room.
Benji came straight back from the loo, where he had courageously retreated to. I wish it would have saved me...
With Lydia's arrival, our chances of getting into Fey's room diminished, but of course that wasn't the reason and we sat by the door.
When the children were brought to the mother's room, which was a clear sign that the mother was conscious and had regained her strength, I wanted to go in, but was stopped by the doc, who said that it was better to wait until Kitten would deal with her mother herself.
It's a good thing Carrot-top was there, or who knows how I'd have snapped at that meger...
And still there is some notion of universal gratitude, in a couple of hours Lydia left the room, gestured away her bogey guards, and only threw that Fey was waiting for us, and left.
We enter the ward and see Kitten lying on the bed looking out the window. The children are in separate cradles next to her.
- Hey, hello Kitten," Carrot quickly approached and took our girl's arm
- Peter, Mary Jane, - Fey turned round and smiled tiredly. - Hi.
Benji was out, he decided to give us some private time. What an understanding child I have... we have, the child.
- How are you feeling? - I stand next to you and place my fingers reverently on my girls' clasped hands.
- Tired," Fey chuckles in a husky voice.
- You're a good girl," I kiss the weakened hand. - You gave birth to beautiful healthy twins.
- That's great," the blonde responded emotionlessly. - It's so strange, I don't remember anything at all.
- That's not surprising, considering what happened," Mary said.
- Dr Bland explained everything, didn't he? - I asked anxiously.
- You should have seen his face in front of Mum," Hardy said with a wry grin, then leaned back on the cushions and stared at the ceiling. - I could have died, couldn't I?
I don't have time to answer when I hear a whimper from the cot, joined almost immediately by a second whimper.
Mary gets up quickly and walks over to the children. It's frightening that Felicia doesn't react in any way... I didn't think she was so afraid of death.
Or maybe...
- Kitten," I come closer, not letting go of her hand. - Did you see something while you were unconscious?
- No, nothing," the blonde answered quietly.
- I just had to change the nappies, - quickly enough (that's what skill means), Mary comes back with the baby in her arms, the other one sleeping serenely. - Do you want to hold her? - Mary turns to me.
- Sure," I take my newborn daughter in my arms. - Hi, baby," I shake the bundle a little. - I think we should name the kittens, what do you say, Mama Cat?
- You're the father, you can name them," Felicia didn't even turn in our direction.
- Do you want to hold her? - I asked, confused by this reaction.
- No, I don't.
Not understanding, I turn back to Mary, but all I see is the same lostness in her emerald eyes.
- Fey, if you're afraid you're going to drop-
- I just want to be alone! - The cat turned round and tears streamed from her eyes.
- Peter, call the nurses," Mary whispered to me and rushed over to Felicia, who was crying. - 'Shhhh, it's okay Kitten, you just need to sleep...' Commentary on Chapter 170. When you have to decide what's more important /di12hoykl - update on the 20th, as always)
