Chapter 8: Opening Fresh Old Wounds – Crystal Ball Premonitions
/
John didn't skip to her flat in the city of Metropolis. She didn't have one of those, only a packed audience and a show that had you feel abducted into her gathering of shouting and clapping fans.
Ever since Zatanna's father had taken up the image of Dr. Fate, he no longer looked after her. She was the star of the show that John had encountered on her late trip to London after she'd graduated and seen him face to face.
In a way, he crushed a bit but pushed her back, the same to be said of his once underage pupil.
She was, headstrong and younger in her youthful glow only by her magic. Without it, she'd be subjected to her other ability of clairvoyance and the many claims surrounding her kind.
Including one that John sought out from not even his alternate Zee, Zed.
She was … in need of a time out.
( Constantine live action did Zed instead of Zee as his partner.)
"Saw you on that highwire tonight. Grayson would be jealous." He grinned as she met him backstage outside of her trainer. She liked the fact he wasn't smoking. The thing she wasn't happy about though, was the energy that was tied down to him as he waved a hand in front of her face. She blinked as her uniform swayed and her heels clacked to have her not stumble.
"You didn't come to congratulate me. I know you. You need something, John?" Her dark brow looked his way as she took the handle to her trailer and opened it with her key. "Coming?" She tossed back her dark tresses as he took that as greeting enough.
"If it's permitted, surely." He answered as he followed her through the one lit door.
/
"So, you have another student and…I was at his school. I did that much. What else is –
"I'm bothered by a terrible….concern that showed itself to us. Raku came home like a different person, Zee. That boy he'd met was possibly a reincarnated adversary of his past self."
She took to her electric kettle and waited, pausing as she tried to think of what child…
"The blonde kid, was his name…" John scratched his head. "Raku told me, Chas got word."
"John, wait," Zee put up a finger. "I, do know what you mean – who, he's a boy about Raku's age that is close to his new friend. She's in the same transmutation course as he is. I keep track of his schedule…sorry. So…." She sat back and let the kettle turn on. The hum of it relaxed them both. "I'm only here for another night, and then it's Berlin. I'm waiting for the winter markets. Such a fun –
"Zee, focus. What was the boy's name?"
The kettle pattered as she tapped her finger to her brow with a groan. "Ah –
They both snapped their fingers as John said the same. Minds even after parting, they truly were soul bound to this type of magic.
"Marcus!"
"Marcus Borgges."
"I'm not sure that was a surname in ancient Sumerian –
"It's not. When Azag took the boy in, he skipped across traverses. Through TIME." John tapped his knee, the whistle of their fun kettle slowly boiling away, louder. "Raku's father was a record keeper deity underling AND a time lord of a sort. Go figure." John shrugged.
"Raku was taken in and to what I do recall from his written story and Ignito's mind trips into my dreams," he rolled his eyes, and for a very short period the boy was invited to a magical academy in the northlands. What would be possibly the Scottish or even Welsh landscape. I'd have to check it again in the book."
The kettle kept boiling as Zee ignored the pot for the fire that was brewing by John telling her what he remembered.
"Ignito stays around you a lot. I had trouble adjusting….is he there now?" She looked to see if her clairs were active, only to see silence – minding the kettle was gone halfway into go time. "No, that bleedin' Daemon is a trickster that leads many astray. I don't trust what it wants to sell me unless I'm on my knees –
~Now, why would I deny the pleasure of seeing you prostrate yourself, Constantine…?~
/
John had wanted to shut his eyes much sooner; Zee was sounding above water while he was below the wading pool of his subconscious mind. Raku's little "pet" had mindlessly trapped the magi inside of a bubble of motionless TIME. The paradigm of an alchemist's place of worship and study. Books lined more walls than the last time as stunning glass framework made the world blow up into colors of golden rites of passage.
John raised his eyes to floating times lf ancient wisdom as the last time, he'd latched onto one abd was scolded for it.
The owl was a wise hoarder of sacred things that no mortal could ever hope to truly master. So too did John find himself before Ignito's golden glare as the draconian time lord and families to a boy not yet grown into his skin, so too did he beckon Johnny in for another wholesome lesson in respect.
~ It was a quiet time, turbulent to the gods. As easy to remedy as a sore upon the lip. And John, you know nothing as to why that boy went abroad, do you?~ Ignito put away his books as one by one, they found their shelves as children off to sleep. Their pages shut in a farewell wave as Ignito seemed to smile at the little gesture.
John might have grimaced by the daemon's demented face he never showed ever to his little charge, Raku. John has the honor of being teased whilst dreaming.
This was simply as Raku had said, the archetype being…protective.
John summed it up as the thing being as territorial as a damned house cat of a witch. Her familiar. Her other face and guide to the other side.
"What I know never seems to make much a difference to you, daemon –
~ I. Am.~ Ignito's ether based firm was as smoke and sparks of a sparkler firework – he was tangible as the moon was glowing out the windows of gold, before dark left and day's end rose again. A land within the veil of an eclipse.
Just as Raku's rite as a demi god.
~ Why do you turn to these insults, when all I am I cannot change?~
"That's bloody baloney and YOU know why I'm here. Only I can guess one better. You wanted to tell me, didn't you? Give me a part of the myth the books left out?"
A wide grin spread from cheek to cheek across the mastermind's jaw.
Thank gods Raku would never become Roku ever again. After all…they looked, so similar, it wasn't right.
~ Ye hath bested me, and no riddles tonight! You are indeed kind as you say…yet…she was always the cause of strife. Never only she.~ His form was fabricated of smog as John suffocated with the body in his lungs. The cloak of black and turned red of rust, the eyes as gold and amber as the underworld's heated ores.
Ignito was not playing the funny man tonight.
~ If you want to go back to your dear ex and tell her the truth about me…I'd allow it. But then, oh. Johnny. I'd have to haunt you both to enlighten your pea – brained perceptions –
"You want to really know why you bloody scare us all to shite?? I'm possesed, yet I won't let them go. Raku is his own person. You have to realiz –
~He isn't human enough. John, there are forces at work and I do fear…I must have you tolerate my power through a vessel –
"Stay away from my partners. I'm worried about whatever THAT was! It wasn't Marcus. It had to be -
~JOHN!! Hello?? Wake up!! ~
~ I'll be your guide, unto the past…why not, magi? ~
/
John fumbled to his feet as the kettle had settled, so too did Zee's fear that John had been having an out of body experience without her. "What happened?? Was that pull w –
"Zee. We have to….let him in. I'll do it. Try to pay attention to –
He lurched as a cough came on, eyes rolling back, Ignito's eyes sharply marked her as his hands – John's hands scribbled out a sigil to time and space. A capsule and flashback of the academy Raku had stayed only eons from, was there.
~He was there, yet demons were also too. The cunning Lilu had her eyes on his magic, his innocence. She stole the lives of the boys that Raku knew too well, and for that…There is the boy who had prompted her to come hither. ~
Zee saw the boy, a magi's son and diplomat. The other was the son to a nobleman and former knight and another to a scribe of the courts. They all were easy to pick among, yet it was Raku as he didn't have full control over his magic of a demigod son of a time lord.
Marcus had his own group of boys that even tried to abuse their privileges easily. There was
a faire being there called "Artius." The truth was that he was a twin (In wattpad story Veil of Time forbidden myth, where this was an actual set of chapters that got dark quickly) soul of Wiz Gregory or otherwise called Ardeus." He was the reincarnate or incarnate of the one Lilu had cursed by her magi, yet in his defense he watched over the school as its headmaster while Wiz Greg as his changed self …found of Lilu feeding off of the boys. Through her side….of torture.
Zee screamed as the axe came at her, and instead the phantom stream of blood was an illusion of what had become of Raku's friends to draw him to her. They were molested, beaten and bitten by a demon with a lust for life that came out of those weaker from her. She fed off of Marcus who unconsciously did her bidding and had the school shaken enough to send the boy back from whence he came. He was not safe, not there. Not –
~Marcus was a threat to us, yet he never left. He could have brought the isles to war with the demon, for she had no namesake. She was powerless without the youth to siphon and grow fat….~ John's fists were bleach white as Ignito faced ahead.
~He was again revived to fight the foes; the Titans and their children…? (Storyteller arc) Marcus and thee, storyteller. The storyteller was also the archivist in my young lord. He did not face Marcus, and his body was never found….how then did he walk again? So, is it just that he may not be a puppet, yet walking around as dead as they come – rot and flesh no more, while the gods never checked him…or, or! Is someone using that body? Something far stronger after death….~
…………….
John nearly fell as Zee pulled him up, Ignito was too busy humming with a chuckle in the air right beside them. Intangible, as to vanish and escape punishment at any time.
"You, showed us the past, but that was a story y –
~Oops, I did have it all along? Well…~ Ignito tutted and shook his own head, a tome appearing in his hand as he dropped it into Zee's arms. ~That will return to my library upon the last day it is needed. I'll know. ~
"What if we're willing to pay an overdue fee, mate?"
Ignito snorted, his eyes downturned on the magi as the man staggered and tried to remember how Marcus had vanished before. That…was when Roku had been banished…
~You wouldn't want to do that. I'd have to take something other than coin. Yet, I will permit a three days grace period. ~ Cheerily, the daemon didn't seem to mind taunting the two sorcerers. "Find, doable. And if I need you….rather –
~I'll know. ~ Ignito tuned in to a drawing of his world through an invisible door.
"Wait, is it true that you don't get along with anyone you find a threat…then why do you mess with John's mind so much?"
Zee's words had the frown of lords appear as his appeared like Roku's from the story.
~ That is because frankly, I don't like him. ~
"Why?" She didn't ask, this time John took a swing for the truth.
~Simply, because you now exist. It's an eye sore, so I mentally test those unworthy. Aiden has given my lord space, yet his mettle only knows through instinct. He discovered our truth, thus, he is tolerated. ~
"Why, then? What threat do I pose?" Here he was, getting a big fat F and not knowing why he cared at all. Maybe, because that thing was an ancestral impactor of the boy he'd called his pupil. That forgive any, Raku would someday look exactly like that devilish, long-haired cretin.
~I cannot tell you. Go find the source of my lord's pain, first. ~ Snipped the daemon as it turned down the noise. Slipping away, its ever - present darkness of the void was a comfort to the human life of sin and dis-ease.
A diseased mind, not fit to rear a child…had it been too hard a task to unmask the very protective barrier that Ignito wove? That one day, Raku would discover his troubled truth as well, and learn to hate his protectors as before.
/
John took his cup and he and Zee, were ever puzzled. "Raku has to be kept from the boy. I have to get into the school. I'll take time to do it, yet there is someone we can trust in…"
"A teenager that you know…" Zee tapped her finger to her chin. "Want me to talk to my team?"
/
Raku hid in the house of mystery and surrounded himself in his studies on his day off. The school was having a conference, so there wouldn't be classes until the next date. Raku's meditative pose was perfect. He breathed until his body was off the ground. John paced until he sat in a chair by the hearth of his main study – the book was well crafted. Fantastic and magically sealed. There was another few chapters after it. Some, some studded in red flecks as every time he was tempted, the seal activated and pricked his entire hand.
"Johnny??" Chas popped his head through the doorway as John shut the large archive with a near slam to his thumb. More that a thousand bulk filled pages of ink and an ice pack later…
"Careful! It seems the deeper you dive, the harder it becomes when drying yourself off, mate. What is it I can do for you both? My hours are short today. Why don't you take a break and –
"One side of this is pointless to argue. If Raku's little pet dragon has anymore tricks!" John sniffed at the air, expecting the aspect to wag its finger at him.
"Right, then I think it is time to stop hiding and get some sun, am I wrong?"
"Not at all, but…" John sighed and went to the door where Raku was behind it. Learning to fly.
"Should we…he will be safer here, wasn't the reason cl-
"No." John stopped the other quickly. "We, can't be careless. He's done until after lunch. I'm his teacher. I have to lay down the law. He's in there as if it were a video –
He opened the door to see something far different. As Raku was there with eyes shut and, in a trance, glowing as a buddha, he was creating pages and pages of new tales and spells.
His magic was unbound as John noticed the Pentagram rug below his feet. "He's really not easy to speak to like this. Should we –
John put up a hand, walking towards the force that was keeping the pages moving. Noise was made as musical notes were scribbled along those pages. "Raku?" John called up.
The boy didn't hear as Chas tried to yell this time.
"Raku, lad?? We were going to go out. Would you like to join us??"
The child's pages flickered as they caught fire.
It was all breaking down. The fire. A sacred flame appeared above Raku's head as he started slow as a balloon up to it. John screamed.
"RAKU!!! OPEN YOUR BLOODY EYES, NOW!!"
Raku gasped, his eyes tearing as he opened them and his spells broke, ink all in drops across the mat. John got into the spiral as he passed through the casting circle. "Just stay calm!!"
Raku nodded. He stayed in position, yet that fire…why did it want to bring him up into it….He started to sweat, and his lips shook. His stance breaking as Chas pushed John in to rush in for the catch.
As their little angel fell back down to earth, never at last unlocking the last chakra.
John caught the trebling kid as he was breathing in, trying to focus. What….what power had he just….
"It's alright. That, was just being careful. We've got you, lad." John let Raku down once they'd shut the door – books toppled as the mess they saw once opening it again, was also easily predictable.
"Level eight or even nine levitation, transcendence and…and psychokinetic A grade….Raku. How doesn't matter –
"I….need to, tell you…" Raku swallowed. "That fire, it was Azag's. It was!" It sobbed. "I was so close, but it was too much…I'm sorry….so, sorry…"
/
They went out to the pier and John got the kid a gelato to cheer him up. A nondairy one to be kind since Raku couldn't eat much fowl due to his disposition.
Chas believed it trauma of the gory past with Lilu, yet John believed his Sumerian roots and diet then. How he was starved often because of his fate as a child. Other than the kid being quiet that afternoon, John didn't pry. Ignito would be at his throat if he made the "young lord" weep.
"Azag, was someone who respected me. He said that my pain was needed to make mee a respected person. It was important… but….why did that appear?"
"The mind is fickle. If you want my lightest opinion." John took out a cigarette as Raku scrunched his nose and bit into his ice cream cone. "You have baggage, and maybe the fact you're here and seeing other sides to what you are here to do…maybe, you'll one day reach that orb. Pretend it means something –
"It….it should…" Raku jumped up, his hand shaking as he nearly dropped his cone, instead –
He tossed it and bolted. John dropped the butt and darted faster. "WHY?? Why are you running away from any part of yourself??? I said it's fine –
"But, I'm not!"
The golden eyes of Ignito flashed back as Raku noticed that John would hesitate. "You kep seeing Ignito. I told you not to engage with him –
"I had to. You …you could be in danger…" John bit his lip as the other eyes vanished.
"Then, he was back –
"No, not yet." John huffed out. "Your, Marcus, may not be entirely there. I'd guess on one enemy though to come after my pupil. So, then… Raku?" The boy perked up his eyes as Ignito raised a crescent shaped djinn - ear. "Allow the principal to have me tomorrow to investigate! I beg you. Permit me, and we'll find out. Together."

TO EXPLAIN!!
TWO TO THREE ARCS ARE USED IN THIS. ONE BEING A WATTPAD STORY BY INKBLOT09. MOI.
ANOTHER IS CALLED STORYTELLER ARC WHICH EXPLAINS THAT RAKU'S MOTHER WAS OF THE ANCESTRY OF KING SOLOMON AND THE STORYTELLER CLAN THAT WAS ABLE TO MANIFEST FROM TOMES ANYTHING INTO BEING BY READING FROM IT. EVEN LATER, RAKU FOUND OUT ABOUT BEING ANOTHER SOUL INCARNATED FROM THE DEITY SON, TAMUZ. THAT HIS ABILITY TO MANIFEST CAME FROM BOTH HIS EARTHEN BORN MAGICAL HERITAGE AND HIS DJINN LORD AS WELL IMMORTAL RITES OF AN ECLIPSE DEITY.
JOHN IS SPOOKED WHEN IGNITO SHOWS ZEE AND HE WHILE OVERSHADOWING JOHN, RAKU'S PAST AS A STUDENT IN AN ACADEMY MEANT FOR THOSE LIKE HIM. HOWEVER, THE BLOODSHED FORCED HIM TO LEAVE, AND IT WAS REVEALED THAT LILU ATE MARCUS'S SOUL TO FIND HER MUSE AMONG THE SCHOOL'S STAFF.
THOUGH IN STORYTELLER ARC, HE RETURNS ALMOST REANIMATED TO ATACK THE HEROES WHILE ROKU STILL HAS NOT LEFT HIS TURNED SELF TO VANISH. IT ISN'T UNTIL LATER ARCS WHEN AIDEN FREES RAKU FROM BEING ROKU, SEALING THE MEMOTRY AND LETTING IT NEVER HAVE EXISTED. RAKU'S PAST WITH HIS PAIN AND LIL'S INFLUENCE CANNOT COME BACK UNLESS HIS TOME. HIS HEART, THE RECIPRICAL KNOWN AS THE BOOK OF MANIFESTO, IS SOMEHOW DAMAGED OR OPENED. THIS IS LIKE RAKU'S DJINN LAMP; WITHOUT IT LIKE A SELKIE, HIS POWER IS WEAKENED AND HE FALLS UNDER THE CONTROL OF DARK FORCES.
SO, RIGHT NOW FROM VEIL OF TIME SERIES ON WATTPAD AND TEEN TITANS OLDER ARCS OF NEW BEGINNING, THAT ORB OF FIRE IS CONSIDERED A BIRTHRITE TO RAKU OF KNOWLDEGE, CREATION AND IS POSSIBLY THE VERY FIRST BALL OF GAS IN CREATION – YET RAKU IS AFRAID TO FIND HIS NIRVANA AND FALLS BACK DOWN TO EARTH SINCE HE NEEDS TO OVERCOME HIS FEARS FIRST. JOHN KNOWS THAT IF RAKU IS HURT, IGNITO IS LIKE A LEVIATHAN AND CAN SWALLOW UP THE ENTIRE WORLD BY HIS ANGER AND GRIEF. IT IS THE TRUTH THAT JOHN REFUSES TO REVEAL IN IGNITO – THE FACT THAT AIDEN KNOWS THAT AZAG'S FACE LIES BEYOND THE VOID OF THE TIME LORD'S ASPECT OF MYSTERY AND MAGIC??
IT WAS SHOWN IN VEIL OF TIME THAT AZAG'S FACE WAS SO CORRUPTED AND LIKE SMOKE BECAUSE OF HIS PITY ON MANKIND AND HOW HE WOULD ABSORB THEIR PAIN AND SWALLOW IT UNTIL HIS FACE WAS GONE. HE WORE A HOODED CLOAK LIKE CRONOS AS TO EMBODY HIS SOLIDARITY AND HE WAS AGAINST THE AUTHORITATIVE ACTS OF HIS DEAR FRIEND, ABI. HIS ALLY LORD DREAMWAKE REVEALED THAT HE WAS INFACT ONCE AN EGYPTIAN GOD OF SOMETHING SACRED IN CHAOS ARC SERIES AND AFTER. HE WAS ALSO AIDED BY THOTH WHO IS STILL REVEALED TO BE A BIG MENTOR IN RAKU'S TIME WITHIN THE DUNE CAPITAL WITH HIS FATHER.
IF THAT IS THE CASE, COULD RAKU'S FAMILY HAVE DESCENDENTS SIMILAR TO THE ELEMENTAL DOGS?? MAYBE HE IS ABOUT TO MEET THEM, FIND OUT!! JOHN GOES BACK TO CLASS AND A HORRID TRIP HAS THIS NEW MYSTERY TO BE…BLOODY GOOD FUN?
