Chapter 2: A New Life, A New Destiny
Spyro looked at the girl in front of him, trying to determine what to say or what he should do, but couldn't say anything as she walked to the nearby desk where there was a tray of what looked to be herbs and medicine that he guessed were for him. While she was getting what she needed, Spyro looked at the room he was in, which had a medieval look to it, but it had dark brown walls like it was brand new, with lots of bookshelves, a single window, a lamp on the roof that has a flame that produced no smoke, even a table with what looked to be flask's, burners, and other kinds of objects used in chemistry. Before he could asked where he was, Kairi walked back to him with a glass full of green liquid, which the scent was actually pleasant and not disgusting like usual medicines.
"Here, drink this." The girl said, handing Spyro the glass. "It'll help you regain your strength."
Spyro looked at the glass for a second, looking at the concoction to see it bubble a bit and looking very unappetizing, despite how sweet it smelled the when he first smelled it. He built up his courage and placed the glass against his lips, taking in a mouth full and instantly regretting it as he gagged a bit and nearly choked as he swallowed it, coughing as soon as he finished the whole glass in one setting. Before he could set it down, Kairi took the glass and giggled to herself as in she found his misery amusing.
"You weren't supposed to drink it all at once." She said, turning to put the glass back onto the table. "But it is impressive that you kept it down. Sora nearly lost his lunch the first time he drank this."
"S-sora?" Spyro asked, still coughing a from the concoction. "You mean the guy who saved all the worlds from the Heartless, Nobody's and from Organization XIII?"
Kairi turned around to face his, surprised and in awe as their guest seemed to know a bit more about Sora and even the enemies that he has faced. Before she could ask him how he knew, Sora and Roku both walked in, catching both Spyro and Kairi's attention as they opened the door and walked in. Sora Spyro recognized as the teen who tried to save him back home, as well as Riku, who wore a white and yellow vest that is over a black shirt, both of which have large zippers, which didn't make sense to him, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He was about to get up, but Spyro's head began to spin and he plopped down back onto the bed with what felt like a migraine between his eyes and a serious pain in his chest and in his back.
"Yeah, you're gonna be feeling like that for a while." Sora said. "That Blue Rhapsody got you good."
"A what?" Spyro asked, sitting back up slowly.
"A Blue Rhapsody." Sora responded. "It's a spell casting heartless that hits its targets with Blizzard, an ice spell that can really sting if your hit. And the one who got you was a good shot actually."
He then placed both his arms behind his head and gave a goofy like it wasn't a big deal.
"And its thanks to yours truly." Sora boasted. "Donald, Goofy, and I defeated all those heartless and saved you from death."
"Yeah right." Riku retorted as he put Sora in a head lock and messed with his hair. "You saved him after I came and finished them off for you goofball."
"Hey cut it out!" Sora shouted, laughing as he tried to get free. "You're messing up my style."
"You have no style to mess with." Roku retorted, still keeping his friend in a head lock.
"Ok boys." The girl said. "Enough rough horsing around. We have a guest to take care of."
She walked over to the two friends and separated the two of them before they could do one another any harm that they would regret later. After she did, she turned to look at Spyro and gave him another smile while the two guys stood up straight, trying to be serious, but Sora just put his arms back up and behind his head before Riku started messing with him.
"Anyway," The girl started. "I'm Kairi. Keyblade master and one of seven Princesses of Heart. To my left is Riku, fellow Keyblade master and excellent swordsmen."
Riku just smiled at Spyro after he was introduced and nodded his head, greeting him.
"And to my right is Sora." Kairi continued. "Though he isn't a Keyblade master, he is the savior of worlds, and the one who brought Organization XIII down."
Sora just gave Spyro a cheesy smile and gave him a salute with his right hand after getting it out from behind his head. As Spyro wanted to say hello to them, he felt his eyes suddenly get heavy and his vision started becoming dark again. He tried to fight through what was happening, but was loosing the fight as he gave a loud and long yawn to signify that he was very tired and wanted to go back to sleep, but just fought it so he can get some answers about what was happening, where he was at, and how he got here while also trying to figure out what that dream was as it felt very real to him. Kairi noticed him fighting through his drowsiness and giggled a bit as she saw him trying to fight it.
"Looks like someone is tired." Kairi said. "Guess coming back actually took it out of you."
"Either that or he's lazier than Sora back on Destiny Islands." Riku suggested, earning a nasty look from Sora. "What, it's true?"
"Hey, I did most of the work constructing and getting food for the raft while you were sitting around doing nothing!" Sora replied.
Riku and Kairi both ended up laughing fully aware that Sora did do most of the work, unable to resist teasing the teen. Sora quickly realized that he fell for another one of Riku's jokes and just stuck his tongue out at his friend like a child.
"Alright you two, that's enough." Kairi said.
She then walked over to Spyro and helped him to lay back down in his bed and recover him like a mother tucking her child into bed.
"We'll finish introductions later." She continued. "Right now, you need to sleep. Tomorrow, we'll answer whatever questions you might have."
Spyro couldn't say anything as his eyes slowly closed on their own, drifting off to sleep as he did, relieved that he was still alive, but not believing that everything he is seeing and hearing was real and that it was just a dream. He believed that in the morning, he will wake up and find himself in a hospital or an ambulance with a concussion and everything that happened to him was just a bad dream caused by his injuries. As he slept, he felt his body fall again, but couldn't do anything and just let it happen, expecting to reappear back at the tall platform being surrounded by those things again, but instead he suddenly appeared in the middle of space, surrounded by millions of stars, glittering and gleaming without a care in the world. He tried to take in the beauty of the dream he was having, only to watch the stars suddenly move pass him and passing faster and faster until they started to blend in with one another, looking like shooting stars that was flying across the night sky back at home.
When they stopped, he looked around to see where it was that he had arrived and saw another planet, but this one had a large palace in the side of the mountain that sticked out so much that it didn't seem possible for there to be any air. Spyro wondered what was going on, but then felt something pull him towards the planet and through the atmosphere, making him go faster than seemed possible until he saw a large city built into the side of a mountain made out of white marble with black and gold colorations on the roofs of some of the towers and spires, many houses behind its walls, and hundreds of inhabitants that looked like horses. Before he could ask, the sky itself grew dark and the sun went out, replacing it with a moon and stars in the sky, which he thought meant it was night time, so didn't think much of it, until he heard maniacal laughter. He looked around to see where it was coming from, only to fall back into the dark abyss, causing him to scream in absolute terror as he did.
He suddenly jolted awake at that moment, sitting up in the bed he was in and sweating after the dream he had, even though it didn't seem that bad to him at all. He wanted to see what time is was, but couldn't find his phone to see the time as it was dark in the room he was in at the time, but he still had the window in the room that he could look out through. Spyro got out of the bed and walked over to the window to see out of it to find that the stars were out and the moon was high in the night sky, indicating to him that it was the middle of the night, somewhere around midnight by his estimation.
"Wow." Spyro said. "Beautiful out tonight at least. No clouds what so ever."
"Indeed."
Spyro immediately turned around, jumping after hearing a voice agree with him, and scanned to room to see who it was, but had no luck as it was still dark in his room. Before he could ask who was there, a small candle lit up to reveal a man with a grey beard sitting at the desk in the room, wearing a blue robe and a blue magicians hat with stars and crescent moons on it. Spyro's guard was immediately raised as he saw the man sitting at the desk and was ready to jump out the window if push came to shove, but the man just waived his hand and a tray with some milk and tea appeared on the night stand with what looked like sandwiches and what he guessed to be biscuits with it.
"Please, sit." The man said. "I'm not gonna hurt you. After all, you're my guest. And I would like to get to know you."
The man picked up a tea cup from the tray and took a sip from it and put it back onto the tray after he took his sip. Spyro was hesitant to approach the man and his tray of food, thinking that it was a trap, but he felt something wash over him as his instincts were telling him that he could trust the man. After a little bit, he walked back to the bed, but still cautious about the man as he approached as he may look familiar, he still had trust issues about meeting unknown people. Spyro sat on the edge of the bed and picked up the large glass of milk, taking a whiff to make sure nothing was off about it, then took a mouthful of it before swallowing, which to his surprise, tasted sweet and was refreshing to him. He then took one of the sandwiches and took a bite out of it, throwing caution out the window as it tasted like pure heaven to his taste buds, not realizing that the guy next to him was still watching him as he ate, waiting to start talking to his new guest. When Spyro had finished his food and the drink, the tray disappeared in a flash, literally as a flash of light appeared in the middle of it, taking the whole tray with it.
"Now then." The man said. "I believe introductions are in order. I am Master Yen Sid. Grand Sorcerer and mentor of the Keyblade masters and bearers."
He then waved his hand again and a book appeared between them as if he was preparing to read, but just pushed it towards Spyro.
"And I know who you are." Master Yen Sid continued. "You are the Prince of Light and Darkness, holder of the power of three worlds, master of chaos, master of the elements and of the purple dragon, and master of the Force."
"You don't need to go that far with titles." Spyro said. "And call me Spyro, none of that Prince stuff."
Master Yen Sid nodded his head in agreement and waved his hand again, making a small cube made of white crystal with gold trim and another one made with a red crystal in the shape of a d4 dice with the same gold trim appear and setting them down on the table.
"What the heck?" Spyro said. "How did you make a Jedi and Sith holocron appear like that?"
"So you know what they are?" Master Yen Sid asked.
"Yes I do." Spyro answered. "Both of them hold great amount of knowledge, both Jedi and Sith. But a Sith holocron holds forbidden knowledge that would corrupt even the most purest of Jedi, turning them to the dark side."
"Well said." Master Yen Sid said. "This saves me a great deal of time with explaining what they are. But know you will need them both."
"But why?" Spyro asked. "What is this place? What's going on? Why am I here?"
"All in good time." Master Yen Sid replied. "Where you are it the Mystery Tower, my home and a place where I conduct some of my research while train some of the bearers of the key."
Then more books floated towards the desk from outside of the room and onto the desk while another alchemy set came flying in and onto a table in the room. As it did, three women walked into the room, which they had small fairy wings and wands, each wearing a large gown and pointed hats with silk wrapped around the rim of them and going under their chins to keep them from flying off, but each a different color; red, green, and blue. With them, that had a new set of clothing, a purple short sleeved jacket like what Sora has, but with black and white trim on the collar and on the end of the sleeves. In addition, they also brought in a yellow short sleeved shirt and black pants with a new pair of black boots made of leather with golden trim that went with it.
"Oh good, Master Yen Sid is here." The red fairy said. "Good evening Master Yen Sid."
"Good evening Flora." Yen Sid replied. "You may put the clothes on the dresser."
The three fairies carried the clothing to the dresser and were about to leave, but Flora stopped abruptly and turned to face the other two fairies.
"Maryweather," Flora said. "Did you bring the shoulder guards?"
"Oh yes I did." The blue fairy replied. "Almost forgot about them."
She turned around and waved her wand, making two shoulder guards like the ones you find on armor, but the shape of them represented two dragon heads, but one of them was black with red rubies for eyes while the other one was a white dragon hear that has sapphires for eyes. Other than the differentiation between the color of the armor and the jewels, both of the heads were shaped and sized the same. The blue fairy levitated them to the dresser and placed them next to the cloths.
"Will there be anything else you might need us to do Master Yen Sid?" The green fairy asked.
"Yes, there is one more thing Fauna." Yen Sid said. "I need you to find the Moogle that has set up shop here and tell him that we might have a special order for him tomorrow."
The three fairies bowed and left the room, closing the door behind them.
"Who were they?" Spyro asked.
"They are Flora, Fauna, and Maryweather." Yen Sid replied. "They are the three good fairies who agreed to help us. They are the ones who made your new clothing and the shoulder guards, but they had some difficulty making them. The material itself is near indestructible and helps to represent you as the Prince of Light and Darkness."
"There is that again." Spyro said. "What does it mean to be this 'Prince'? And what am I the one chosen to be it?"
Yen Sid turned to look to the desk and waved his hand, calling a book that was already on it to him and opening it to the middle of the whole thing, which looked like it had over two hundred chapters in it. Yen Sid turned the pages non stop until he found what he was looking for; giving the book to Spyro to look at. As Spyro took it, he looked and saw a guy in Black and white armor with a Keyblade in his hands that had the yin yang symbol for the teeth of the blade and behind him were two dragons, one white and the other black, with eyes that matched that of the shoulder guards that the good fairies brought into his room.
"It was the end of the worst catastrophe to happen to the Keyblade masters." Yen Sid said. "It was back when there were thousands to tens of thousands of bearers of the Keyblade. It was back when the world was whole and people were filled with light as Kingdom hearts was only just created. However, there were those who sought to control its power for their own selfish desires. They forged weapons to control that power and use it, creating the first Keyblades. The first Keyblade, rumored to be able to control the power of kingdom hearts, but this caused a great conflict between many sides, resulting in a war between light and darkness. Both sides suffered greatly and it only stopped when the x-blade was destroyed and fractured into twenty pieces."
He then placed his hand onto the book and look down at it, pointing a finger at the guy in the picture.
"This is the First Prince." He continued. "One who is equal part light and dark. Able to wield both without any harm or danger to their own person. Power to defend Kingdom Hearts when the need arises. But with this power, comes a great risk."
He then flipped the page to the next section, revealing a massive door and the prince standing before it, Keyblade raised towards it, a light shooting out of the tip of the blade and hitting the door. Before he could ask, Master Yen Sid got up from the chair and walked to the window, looking out into the night sky and taking in a deep breath.
"The Prince of Light and Darkness is the only one who is able to open the door freely." Yen Sid continued. "Though the door is locked thanks to Sora and King Mickey, the Prince can override those locks and open the door to Kingdom Hearts. That means you can open the door and allow the darkness to flood out of Kingdom Hearts into all the worlds if you wanted to. Plunging everything into darkness, bringing destruction and chaos where he goes."
he then turned to face Spyro, giving him the most serious look that said 'Your actions will have consequences.' He then walked back to Spyro and sat back down in the chair next to the bed, flipping the page to the next section of the book.
"But not everything about the Prince is about darkness." He said, revealing the next page to be the same prince, but this time he was next to six symbols that seem to be emitting a large amount of light across a field on a planet that he somehow recognized. "For the Prince can also use his power to create and restore what has been destroyed. For he has direct access to the light within Kingdom Hearts as well as the darkness within their own heart, channeling both into power."
Spyro set the book down onto the nightstand next to him after the tray disappeared in a flash and got out of the bed, walking to the same window and looking out. He saw the night sky, gleaming with stars as far as the eye could see and down below was a large field of grass, shrubs, and trees with what looked like training gear and facilities with practice dummies, wooden weapons, and everything else one would need to practice combat.
"What does this have to do with me then?" Spyro asked. "Why am I the one chosen for this? Why do I have to dragged into the struggle of a video game world? And why do I have the power of three other games with me in the first place!?"
Yen Sid got up from the chair and walked over to the window, standing next to Spyro, placing his hand on Spyros left shoulder to comfort him.
"I may not have all the answers." Master Yen Sid said. "But everything happens for a reason. The only thing I can say is that you are special. And the best you can do is play the hand you were given."
He let go of his shoulder and walked to the door, opening it to leave the room, but not before turning around and looking back at his guest.
"Oh, and one more thing." Master Yen Sid said, getting his attention. "A new prince is chosen at the age of seventeen. When the old one passes away, the new one will inherit his power and the power of three worlds that best fit them. And, no matter what age the heir is, they will revert back to when they were chosen."
Spyro was confused for a second, but then it clicked in his head, immediately running to the mirror that was in the room, finding a younger version of himself without a beard and looking thin and muscular again than when he was during college. He turned to look at master Yen Sid for more answers, but he was gone and the door was shut, leaving him alone in the room, freaked out and far more confused than he was previously when he woke up. He looked back to the mirror to see him in his younger body, amazed that he was younger, but also concerned because he still had the mindset of a full grown adult, but in the body of a teenager still in high school. He then turned back to the books and holocron on the desk, seeing them just lay there with information that could explain and answer some of the question he has, but also felt tired as his eyes began to close on their own by how late it is.
"Answers can wait." Spyro said to himself. "For now I need to sleep. I'll get what I need answered in the morning."
Turning away from the mirror, he walked back to his bed and sat down on it, looking at the floor, thinking about everything that has happened to him in the span of a day than his whole life. He then laid his head back into the pillow, drifting off to sleep.
Else where, Master Yen Sid had returned to his study and walked past his desk and towards a mirror that he had covered with a cloth in the room next door. Removing the cloth, he waved his hand and the reflection in the mirror began to ripple and continued to do so until he saw a white pony about as tall as he is with a horn, wings with a pink, green, and blue mane waving with some kind of magic, wearing golden hoof slippers, a tiara to represent her as royalty and a golden necklace. On her flank was the image of a sun on it, representing what her destiny is in her land.
"Princess Celestia." Master Yen Sid said. "It has been a while."
"It has been." She replied. "Tell me, is it true. Is he really at your tower now?"
Master Yen Sid nodded his head, confirming what the princess guessed.
"He is here." Master Yen Sid said. "He is the one."
"So the legends are true." The alicorn replied. "That means that everything in the old texts and scrolls is soon to follow."
"That won't happen for a while." Master Yen Sid said. "He is not what I expected, but his power is surprisingly strong, despite not using it. I believe he will be the strongest Keyblade master I will have ever trained."
"Let's hope so." The princess responded. "It is getting close to her return. And I have noticed peculiarities around Equestria that is making me fear for the safety of my little ponies."
She looked visible distressed as the look in her eyes showed fear and worry for her people. She then looked behind her to make sure no one was watching, even though there shouldn't be anyone there to listen in on her private conversation.
"How long will he need to be able to fight?" The princess asked.
"At least a year." Master Yen Sid replied. "Two at most. He will need to learn everything about his power before he can come to your land."
"Two years it is then." The princess announced. "But he must be ready before the Summer Sun Celebration. I fear that my -"
"Princess!" Came a young female voice along with some knocking. "I'm ready for the lesson."
"My student." The Princess said, sighing in relief. "I need to go. I'll catch up with you more tomorrow night."
The image of the princess disappeared and was replaced with Master yen Sids reflection in the mirror. He covered the mirror back up and left the room, returning to his study and went towards his desk, having a seat at it. He then flipped through the pages of the tome he had opened at his desk, reading more about the Prince of Light and Darkness and what role he will have for the future of the worlds.
