B'Elanna sat on the bench, outside the double doors where she was to have her debriefing. She looked down at Miral, who was wrapped around her, to see that she was sleeping. She hoped that she slept through most of this. She knew that she could have left Miral with her in-laws, but she wanted her daughter with her. Tom was having his own debriefing today and couldn't watch their three-month old baby.
One of the doors opened, "Lieutenant Torres, we are ready for you," B'Elanna took a breath as she stood and followed the man into the room. There was a table where four people sat. There were two males and two females. There was a chair in the center of the room and B'Elanna knew that it was for her.
"Please take a seat, Lieutenant Torres," One of the females said.
B'Elanna set Miral's bag down next to her and took a seat. The person that let her in took a seat in a corner where he could record everything that happened in this meeting. Miral started to make a fuss. B'Elanna rocked back and forth to quiet Miral.
They waited until Miral was asleep again before they started to question again. "You were part of the Maquis before you joined the crew of Voyager?"
"Yes, I was Chief Engineer on Val Jean," B'Elanna said.
They nodded. "How did you become Chief Engineer on Voyager?"
B'Elanna told them how she punched Joe Carrey in the nose and had earned the respect of Captain Janeway and became Chief Engineer of Voyager and how Joe Carrey became a good friend of hers. She was sad about his death, and she hoped that his family knew what kind of man he was. They questioned her about missions she was on and how she handled herself.
Miral started to fuss and B'Elanna knew that it was time for her to feed because her breasts were filled. The panel was ready to ask her another question when B'Elanna spoke up. "Excuse me," They all looked up. "Can we take a break so I can feed my daughter?"
They smiled and nodded. One of the women turned to the person that let her in. "Ensign Moon, can you take Lieutenant to the side room so she could feed her baby."
Ensign Moon nodded, got up and headed for the door with B'Elanna following him with a crying baby. Ensign Moon opened a door to a side room. "Here you are, Lieutenant Torres," B'Elanna thanked him as she entered the room. She watched him close the door before finding a chair where she could feed Miral.
B'Elanna fed Miral and thought about what they were going to question her next about. It seemed like they were questioning her in order of events that happened on Voyager. The next thing that was coming up was the Cardassian missile Dreadnought. She went back to the fact that she had to outsmart herself with the missile so she could save a planet and its people.
Miral finished eating, B'Elanna covered herself, and put Miral back in her holder. She went to the door to see that Ensign Moon was standing there waiting for her to come out. He didn't say anything as he led her back to the room for her questioning.
B'Elanna took her seat again and made sure that Miral was sleeping before looking at the panel again.
"While you were in Maquis, you reprogramed a Cardassian missile to take down a Cardassian planet, how did you do it?"
B'Elanna explained how she reprogram the missile and sent it on its way.
"You found the missile in the Delta Quadrant, and it was heading towards an inhabited planet."
It wasn't a question but a statement. B'Elanna answered it anyway. "Yes."
"How did you stop it from hitting the planet?"
B'Elanna explained what happened and how she disarmed it. How she had to outsmart the missile and everything to save the planet. B'Elanna saw their faces and how impressed they were with her.
They continued to question her and about her time on Voyager. They asked her about her time with the Enarans and how she helped them learn their history that was covered up. They asked her about her relationship with Tom. There were some things that she wasn't going to share with them about her relationship with Tom. It was too personal for them. They asked about Miral and Klingons and how she was the savior of the Klingon people. And what she has planned for this.
"I don't know. I just want my daughter to be happy and live life the way she wants too," B'Elanna looked down at Miral, who was looking up at her.
The panel nodded. "What would you like to happen?" One of them asked.
B'Elanna took a breath. "I would like to watch my daughter grow up and see what kind of woman she is going to be." B'Elanna thought that it would best to say that than saying something like about not going to prison.
"What would you like to happen with your Starfleet career?" One of the women asked.
B'Elanna took a breath she didn't think that was option She didn't think that they would let her stay in Starfleet. "I would like to stay in Starfleet."
"We agree. We only have requirement," B'Elanna nodded. "You finish your degree, and you will be able to keep your lieutenant title."
B'Elanna nodded. She didn't think that was going to be too hard for her to do. "I will thank you," The panel nodded.
"Thank you for your time, Lieutenant Torres," One of the panels said.
B'Elanna nodded towards and stood. She grabbed Miral's bag and walked out when she wasn't to run out and find her husband and tell him what had happened.
B'Elanna exited the Starfleet building and found Tom standing there waiting for her. He smiled at her and made his way over to her. He took Miral from her and kissed her lips. "How was it?" He asked.
B'Elanna smiled. "It was good. I get to keep my title of lieutenant if I finish my degree. How was it for you?" B'Elanna asked as they started to walk away from the building.
"Good. I will still be in Starfleet, and I can move up if I want to," Tom took her hand.
"So, what next for us?" B'Elanna asked as she leaned her head against Tom's shoulder.
"I don't know, but I have you by my side and I know we can do anything," Tom kissed the top of her head.
B'Elanna was happy that her family could stay together.
