Author's note at end
"For a second there I thought you weren't gonna pick up, ya know." A rough chuckle came resonated through the phone. Boruto took two calm breaths and sighed. His heart had been beating too fast for him to catch up. His anxiety surged, threatening to overwhelm him as he struggled to find the right words. With a shaky hand, he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose, trying to stave off the rising panic. This wasn't good for his health, he knew, but he couldn't help the surge of emotions coursing through him.
"Calling me in the morning? We talked about this, dad."
Naruto let out his own sigh on the other end. "C'mon, Bolt, I'm being the considerate one here. I can't call you at night, you hardly get enough sleep as it is. How are you?"
Boruto hesitated for a bit, making sure he was alone before continuing. "I'm alright, haven't thought of jumping for a while." He said casually as he tucked his hand into his pocket.
He smirked, quite certain that Naruto was rolling his eyes. "Stop with the suicide jokes, Bolt."
Boruto cackled. "Sorry, old man. I was just messing with ya." He said as he kicked a rock, the sound echoing softly in the quiet of the moment. As he watched the stone skitter across the ground, a pang of nostalgia washed over him. He missed pranking his old man. He'd grown out of his rebellious days but he couldn't help it it was a part of him and he was sure Naruto found it endearing.
Despite his outward facade of indifference, Boruto couldn't deny the ache in his heart. He missed his family more than he cared to admit, each day stretching out before him like an endless void without their presence. The absence of his father, in particular, weighed heavily on him, a constant reminder of the bond they shared and the moments they had lost.
"You been taking care of yourself?"
"Yeah." He answered quietly.
"Had breakfast yet?"
"Yep"
"What'd you have?"
Boruto chuckled. "You'd be surprised, we had ramen, ya know." He could hear the grin in Naruto's voice.
"No way, did you make it?"
"Yup!"
"Oh man, how was it, bet it was extra spicy" Naruto guffawed along with Boruto.
"Ya see, old man that's the best you can get out of Ramen, I've tried it with you once." Boruto reminisced, his mind drifting back to their hiking trip three years ago. He vividly recalled the moment when they stumbled upon a ramen food cart, its inviting aroma wafting through the air. Naruto had enthusiastically flagged it down and wasted no time in ordering a cup of ramen.
As Naruto savored the noodles with gusto, Boruto couldn't help but feel see the appeal of the plain flavors. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he approached the vendor and inquired about spices to enhance the dish. To his delight, the vendor obliged, handing him a selection of condiments.
He went on sprinkling the spices into the cup noddles with excitements despite Naruto's earlier disapproval. Once he finally forced his dad to have a taste, the old man's eyes dilated as his senses began to tingle at such a new improved taste. Boruto took a picture for laughs.
"Yeah, I remember that, it was really good." Naruto laughed. This time Boruto went silent for a bit.
"How's mom?" Came his question and Naruto sighed.
"She's doing fine."
"What about Hima and... Kawaki?" He noticed the slight pause from Naruto before he answered that they were also doing alright.
Kawaki was a touchy subject between them, not because he outrightly did anything wrong, at least theydidn't think so. The world thinks he and Kawaki were murderers.
Kawaki was in the same situation as him, in another city, in another school, far, far away from their family. They couldn't meet them or talk to them, only Naruto. Boruto knew how much this weighed on Naruto's shoulders, a burden he had to carry with the world thinking his two sons were criminals.
"I'm gonna be sending in more medications for you; you're probably out of them by now, you know." Naruto said in haste to change the topic. Thinking about the situation was going to slow him down from trying to find a way to solve it and save his sons.
Boruto wanted to keep talking but decided to let it go. Naruto probably had a lot going on right now with the issue, he didn't want to stress him further. "Yeah... I was running out..." He replied quietly.
"Okay, you should have them by evening. Take care of yourself, okay?" Naruto said, his voice cracking a bit. Boruto felt a jumble of emotions swirling inside him. He just nodded, then remembered Naruto couldn't see him since they were on the phone.
"Okay." He managed, trying to sound tough.
"I love you."
The dam broke and Boruto's fingers pressed his eyelids down to force the tears back.
"Yeah fine." He responded and ended the call, backing up, heaving slow breaths til he hit a wall. His hands raked into his hair and pulled as he let it all out. The tears fell from his eyes down his face and to the ground. He let it all out, because he didn't want to go back crying. He didn't want the guys to see him like this so he chose to just be himself there. There, he leaned and cried his eyes out til his head hurt even more.
Boruto strolled back into the dorm, ignoring the chubby black op member stationed in the school to monitor him. The man was dressed as a casual student just studying and having a cup of coffee, looking the least suspicious but Boruto knew better. As the son of a prominent political figure, he'd been trained to spot stalkers since he was six. Good 'ol Nishi was just an amateur. He let out an exasperated huff as he walked away in annoyance.
As uncomfortable as it made him, he knew the government did this because theyfelt uncomfortable.. As long as those old fucks had their panties in a twist, he was happy. Aside from the fact that they're that old but could live as long as they did (Which bothered him to no end), he wondered why they were still allowed to be in the position to make decisions. The fact that neither he nor Kawaki had faced prosecution so far was solely due to his parents' influence. Naruto wasn't just a revered political figure; he was also a national hero. Hinata, his mother, hailed from a prestigious royal lineage, one of Japan's founding families. So those geezers couldn't act as they wished as they would an ordinary person.
Naruto says he's working on a way to clear he and Kawaki's name and find the real culprit while he deals with his own issues. The thought of everything drained him mentally and emotionally and he willed himself to stop thinking so he doesn't have another manic episode.
He finally got back to his dorm, appearing as nonchalant as ever. He took care to dry his eyes completely before returning, wanting to avoid any suspicion. Upon opening the door, he was mildly surprised to find Shinra and Iris in the living room, engaged in a conversation with smiles adorning their faces.
"Oh damn, hope I'm not interrupting something." Boruto said with a suggestive smile on his face.
Shinra and Iris blushed, Shinra's anxious smile creeping on his face. "No, not at all! We were just talking." Iris quickly assured.
Boruto laughed playfully, "Alright, carry on," and moved on to his room, leaving the two to their conversation. Inside, Yuji was comfortably seated on his bed, absorbed in reading manga.
"Back already?" Yuji asked without looking up to which Boruto sighed and replied, "Yeah."
He then proceeded to remove his hoodie and plopped down on his bed.
Curious, Yuji questioned, "Was that your dad on the phone?"
Boruto nodded, "Yeah, just checking on me."
Yuji knew Boruto had parents, but their identity remained a mystery to him. While he understood it wasn't his business, a sense of sympathy lingered. Boruto's connection with his parents seemed...distant—secret calls, always from his dad. Visiting Saturdays left Boruto alone in the dorm, while they all went to see their families.
"It's fine, bro. I'm serious," Boruto once reassured when Yuji felt guilty about leaving him alone to go see his family one Saturday. "They probably don't miss me that much; I FaceTime them a lot." He said with a chuckle.
Yuji had never seen Boruto FaceTiming his family. He didn't even know what they looked like.
Suddenly, Boruto turned in bed, facing Yuji with a deadpan expression. "I can literally feel your eyes on my back, damn," he chuckled.
"Come see a movie with me," Yuji proposed, holding up two movie tickets with earnestness.
Boruto was quite caught off guard, not expecting that response. His one blue eye widened and words seem to catch in his throat. "Wh -why...?" He managed to ask.
"Why not?!" Yuji exclaimed, raising his eyebrows. "It's just me asking you as a friend to go see a movie with me. What's wrong with that?"
Boruto sat up, saying, "It's not that. you'renot the problem, going with you...is not the problem." He then gave the tickets a look of disgust. "It's the movie."
"The movie?!"
"Yes, man, the movie. I'm not about to sit through an hour-long adaptation of your shitty grotesque manga."
Yuji gasped dramatically, clutching the manga to his chest. "How dare you?! Human Earthworm is a Masterpiece!"
Boruto deadpanned, "You call voluntary nudity a masterpiece."
Flustered Yuji shot back. "It doesn't display nudity...most of the time."
"You're hopeless, like what is seriously the appeal in that, it's weird as hell."
"You watch Kagemasa." Yuji deadpanned
"That's different?!" Boruto insisted.
"It has no plot!"
"I mean, it's better than seeing saggy tits."
"They don't all sag, dude some are really good but I sincerely only read it only for the plot."
Boruto cocked his head and deadpanned at Yuji's sheepish smile.
"Please...just give it a chance," Yuji pleaded, kneeling before Boruto with the tickets in his hand and a pleading look on his face. Yuji had been such a ray of sunshine that he didn't know he needed in his life and he made him start to rethink and remember the good things he had in his life before he lost it all. He never appreciated it, never regarded it but Yuji made him want to start over. He chuckled when Yuji deepened his pout and patted him on the cheek.
"You're just too cute. Fine, I'll go."
"Yay!" Yuji did a whole backward roll on the floor, making Boruto laugh.
The cinema was buzzing with activity; there was a sizable crowd, and the line at the ticket stand seemed to stretch on endlessly. To Boruto's surprise, there was also a significant line at the Human Earthworm apocalypse stand. It made Boruto grimace at the sight.
"What is wrong with people?" he mused aloud, earning an amused chuckle from Yuji.
"They just know peak fiction when they see it," Yuji replied with a grin, to which Boruto responded with an exaggerated scoff.
"Incest, nudity, and SA are considered peak fiction. What a wonderful world," Boruto remarked, sarcasm dripping from his words, prompting a laugh from his companion. Yuji playfully slung his arm around Boruto's shoulder as they navigated through the cinema crowds.
"Just watch, and you'll see why it's so peak."
As they strolled toward their destination, Boruto, reluctant to experience "Peak Fiction", contemplated other potential distractions. However, before he could fully drown himself in his thoughts, his phone vibrated, drawing his attention to a notification from the gang's group chat. All they were doing was asking where he and Yuji where in a panicked manner. He could blame Yuji and himself from leaving without telling them but he honestly didn't feel like it.
Sighing at their drama, Boruto typed out a quick response.
ASTA: Where are y'all??? :'(
BOLT: Relax, Yuji and I just left to go see a movie
ASTA: Oh aight :-D
TANJI: What's on?

DEKU: I think they were more focused on trying to look cool
YUJI: Ong just aura merchants everywhere.
SHINRA : It was cringe asf
Boruto momentarily diverted his gaze from the phone screen, his gaze catching something intriguing in his peripheral. Approaching from the Human Earthworm ticket stand was a figure he recognized without a doubt.
Shoulder-length dark hair, intense dark eyes adorned by frameless glasses, and an air of elegance in her stride. Her hands casually tucked into the pockets of her dark bomber jacket, which concealed a strapless top underneath, paired with short dark shorts and high boots, she looked stylish. Normally, she was pretty but when she had that stoic expression on her face, she looked so hot. He'd heard a lot of guys whispering about how much they wanted her to top them. Boruto, however, had different plans.
"Well, look who's slacking off," he cooed, his condescending smirk unfazed by the sharp glare Sarada shot his way. Oh how he loved the way she glared at him, he thought with mirth as a dynamic tension sparked between them.
"Boruto," she grounded out in a low tone.
"Sarada-chan~" he replied in a teasing, giddy tone, staring down at her both literally and figuratively, maintaining his amusement while she remained visibly irritated. Their contrasting stances created a palpable tension that seemed to crackle in the air like sparks.
Observing this exchange, a dark-skinned girl who previously walked alongside Sarada couldn't help but comment, "So this is the Boruto she's always complaining about. He's hot, though."
"They're always causing a scene during lectures," Yuji chimed in beside her, flashing a charming smile. Extending a friendly hand, he introduced himself, "Yuji Itadori, from Pre-law. And who is the pretty lady I'm speaking to?"
The dark-skinned girl, smirked, reciprocating the handshake with a confident gaze that held Yuji's. "Cho-cho Akimichi from Fashion Designing, nice to meet you, Yuji."
While Yuji and Cho-cho eyefucked, Boruto and Sarada eyefucked. Their eyes locked with an intensity that mirrored hot oil meeting water, threatening to erupt at any moment. It stemmed from their initial clash of attitudes. Boruto thought she had a steel pipe stuck up her ass and Sarada thought he was a lackadaisical idiot, with that in mind, they were always on edge around each other.
"What are you doing here, Boruto?" She hissed, her eyes not leaving his own and his amused response, raising a brow, only fueled the fire.
"What else do people do in cinemas, Sarada-chan? Your brain not working anymore?" He cooed, bending down so he was eye level with her, staring into those obsidian pools.
Curse their height difference, it made Sarada feel so inferior and the worse part was that she was wearing goddamn heels! She stomped her foot as her face went red.
"Of course I know what people do in cinemas, and you know exactly what I meant!"
"Easy, princess I was only kidding, too stuck up to take a joke?"
"Jump."
"I'd gladly do it, but I'm gonna get saved anyway."
Cho-cho's groan interrupted them.
"Can you guys please stop? The sexual tension is choking us to death."
At this both Boruto and Sarada turned glaring at Cho-cho who stood with a smirk on her face, looking the entertained. "There's no such thing!"
Cho-cho playfully cooed, "Aw, so cute."
"We should totally sit together." Yuji chimed in to further complicate matters while Boruto and Sarada chorused a huge "No".
Cho-cho on the other hand was ecstatic. "That's a great idea, Yuu."
"No, Cho! Bad idea." Sarada interfered then scowled. "And you're calling him Yuu now?!"
"That was fast." Boruto commented. "Anyway, I'm not sitting with her. I'd rather sit through a torturous hour watching that movie by myself than sit with princess priss."
"Right back at you, Prince Pegasus."
It took Boruto a second to note the meaning behind it and before he could open his mouth to respond, Yuji spoke.
"I've got an idea. Since you guys can't stand each other, you guys sit together..." They must've thought, he'd say something smart like they'd sit apart with Cho-cho and Yuji in the middle but no... apparently Yuji had other plans.
"I trusted you." Boruto began in a disappointed tone.
"No wait, let me finish." Yuji sighed. "You guys sit together and whoever manages to sit through the movie without causing a scene gets to have my limited edition handouts."
At the mention of Yuji's limited edition handouts, Boruto and Sarada's previous murmuring ceased instantly. Those handouts were rare, screw that, they weren't available in the university's library and Yuji had them because, one of his uncles is a lawyer and he gifted them to him. As annoying as the requirement was, Sarada really wanted those handouts and simply couldn't fumble such an opportunity.
"Fine." She breathed out, finally loosening up.
"Yeah, but if she tries anything I ain't holding back." Boruto added with a straight face, much to Sarada's chagrin.
Halfway through the movie, Boruto and Sarada were able to be on their best behavior but that was because for once they agreed on one thing.
The movie was ass.
While the characters on the screen had cringe bizarre romantic moments, horror scenes that were more funny than scary due to the amateur acting and mediocre special effects, Boruto and Sarada discreetly exchanged glances, each confirming the other's dissatisfaction with the film. Sarada had a record for the most jumpscares in the lightest thriller movies, even a rollercoaster scene could so much as have her shaking but now she didn't even move. Not because she was scared but because she was confused, her brain tried to figure out the actual point of this movie.
"I'd commend you for not jumping at every shadow, Sarada-chan, but this movie's so bad, I won't waste the compliment." Boruto remarked on a serious note.
Sarada, maintaining her cool demeanor, looked straight ahead at the screen. "I know what you're trying to do, Boruto. You won't bait me into a reaction."
Boruto chuckled, amused by her response. "Sarada's such a boss bitch." He cooed making her groan in frustration.
"Can you please shut up?" Luckily for her, Boruto decided to keep his mouth shut and feed himself with popcorn while she leaned back and continued to watch the movie.
As they sat in comfortable silence, soft sighs and faint moans disrupted the atmosphere, prompting both Boruto and Sarada to turn their heads toward their friends.
Their expressions twisted into grimaces as they witnessed Yuji and Cho-Cho deeply engrossed in a rather sloppy make-out session. The sight left Boruto and Sarada exchanging a look of shared discomfort and disbelief at their friends' lack of subtlety.
They weren't even trying to be quiet!
"Real smooth, Yuji." Sarada heard Boruto mutter.
"I mean...I saw this coming, Cho's obsessed with hot guys." Sarada responded and Boruto scoffed.
"And Yuji's always hunting for hot chicks. What a match made in heaven." He said with an eye roll. "Well, the guy's naturally a chick magnet, it was bound to happen."
Sarada gave Boruto a side eye. "You know you'd be more believably attractive if you weren't such an arse." The way Boruto's face contorted into a sly condescending expression had Sarada begin to regret everything she had uttered.
"Sarada-chan..."
"Shut up."
"Did you just indirectly say I'm hot?"
"Just shut up and watch the movie." She said through gritted teeth and he chuckled in response. Damn him, he was such an asshole. A good looking one.
It was no secret that he was one of the most attractive guys in their department and possibly the entire university, she'd heard his name from the mouth of girls in departments as far as radiology, all talking about how ethereal he looks.
Blech.
Maybe she was just blind after all, as Cho-cho had claimed. She just couldn't see the appeal actually. He was such an annoying, arrogant, condescending son of a bitch and you'd think that maybe he'd be lagging behind educationally.
Hell no!
He was always getting the top scores with her as his only competition. Was it sports? She'd seen him run about 200 meters, while bracketing with Yuji! He was so versatile and good at many things, Sarada thought it just wasn't fair. Perhaps his bad character was just something the universe had to compensate for his other good qualities.
Yet with all this, she didn't really know Boruto for who he actually was. Yes, he was irritating at best but he'd shown a rare side of himself to her a handful of times and it only made her wonder, who he really was. He was so loud and showy yet so mysterious.
She mentally kicked herself upon realizing that she was thinking about him way too much for her comfort.
As the movie concluded and the lights brightened, signaling the end, everyone began shuffling out of the cinema bit by bit . Boruto had never thanked God for a movie's end before, this was a first. On their way out, Yuji and Cho-Cho, despite having just met, were already strolling side by side, hands intertwined, flirting with each other in hushed tones. Witnessing this, Boruto and Sarada couldn't help but exchange deadpan looks before an inevitable eye roll.
Once they exited the building, Sarada huffed, turning her attention to Yuji. "Hey, you promised us your limited edition handouts if we behaved. I did my part, now it's your turn."
Yuji thankfully took his eyes off Cho-cho and smiled nervously. "Okay, since both of you were such good kids during the movie, I'm giving the handouts..." he made a gesture between Boruto and Sarada with a sheepish grin. "To both of you."
It took three seconds for the words to finally materialize in their heads but then Sarada sighed, putting her hand on her hips. "Fine, I'll take them and when I'm done studying with them, I'll pass them to Boruto."
"Hell no." Boruto replied, looking pissed. "I wanna study first. You're just going to take forever."
Sarada scoffed, "I'll be efficient. Unlike someone who probably plans to use them as coasters for his drinks." she wanted to add that Boruto didn't need to study since she heard he hardly studies for tests but then that would be a nose dive into conclusions.
Boruto rolled his eyes. "Oh, please. I'll put them to better use than you will."
The two started bickering about who should study with the handouts first, completely ignoring Yuji's attempt to mediate. The argument escalated, and it seemed the joint custody idea was not going over well.
"Why don't you two just split the handouts?" Cho-cho then chimed in, causing Boruto and Sarada to go quiet. "You each take one, study your hearts out, and when you're both done, swap them. Easy."
Boruto and Sarada exchanged surprised glances, taken aback by how simple Cho-Cho's solution was. Scratching his head, Boruto mused, "Well, I guess that makes sense."
"Yeah." Sarada agreed and shrugged.
Cho-Cho teased, "You two are supposed to be the top students, and yet you need me to solve basic problems for you."
"And she saves the day, beauty and brains." Yuji remarked with a smile that Cho-cho reciprocated.
"Aw you're too kind."
"How about we escort you and Sarada back to your dorms?" Yuji suggested. "It's the least we can do after that horrendous movie."
At that, Boruto sharply turned to face Yuji pointing sternly at him. "You fucking admitted it!"
"Yeah, yeah." Yuji said shrugging and rolling his eyes in exasperation. "The manga still clears, though." He quickly added, leading to him and Boruto lightly bickering about the movie as the girls walked ahead of them. Boruto then looked at them as they walked ahead and griped, "Do we really have to escort them, though?"
"It's called being a gentleman." Yuji ruffled Boruto's blonde hair and teased.
As they dropped Cho-Cho and Sarada off at their dorm, Yuji made sure to give Cho-cho a dramatic and lingering goodbye kiss before he and Boruto made their exit.
"Oh my God, Yuji is amazing! Tonight was so worth it!" Cho-cho practically squealed as she and Sarada entered their room, not able to contain her excitement.
Rolling her eyes, Sarada responded, "Knowing you, Cho-Cho, you'll probably get bored of him soon enough."
Cho-Cho laughed in agreement. "True. Yuji and I might not last long. But hey, at least we're having fun for now."
Sarada sighed, "Fun or not, I don't see it lasting."
"Come on, lighten up, girl!" Cho-Cho grinned and then squinted her eyes a second later as if remembering something. Clasping her hands together, she fixed her serious gaze on Sarada who looked confused. "Let's talk about Boruto." Sarada immediately groaned audibly, knowing exactly where this conversation was headed.
"How dare you lie to me, Sarada! That man is sexy as hell!"
"Don't start," Sarada mumbled, burying her head under a pillow. She saw this coming. She saw this coming from a freaking mile away.
"He is so hot, it's giving mysterious blonde fuck boy!"
"Maybe cuz that's what he is?" Sarada quipped and Cho-cho gasped.
"He's a player?! That's even better!"
"How?!" Sarada honestly questioned from the depths of her being. She understood that Boruto was fine but why did him being a player raise his stats. What the hell were girls into these days?
"I'm fucking him." Cho-cho declared.
"Um, whoa?" Sarada raised her brows. "You decided that way too fast."
"Who cares, he wears an eye patch, Sarada!"
Sarada couldn't help but roll her eyes, she seriously couldn't with Cho-cho.
Meanwhile, Boruto and Yuji were already halfway back to their dorm, walking together side by side, the glow of the street lamps guiding their path. A rock they found along the path bounced between their feet as they passed it to each other idly as they walked. A little side hobby they discovered they both liked while walking, they could talk for hours and hours and sometimes forget where they were going since their focus was mainly on getting the rock passed to each other.
"So now thanks to you, I'm gonna have to keep talking to that bitch up close." Boruto griped as he passed the rock to Yuji who toyed with it a little before sucking his teeth.
"Boruto, I don't think you know how lucky you are. If I were you, this would be a major opportunity." Yuji smirked before passing the rock back to Boruto. "She is so fine."
Boruto rolled his eye. "You sure can deal with a bad attitude, can you. Plus she won't even give you the time of the day, too much of a stuck up to care."
"I mean she's not innocent so that makes her a worthy challenge."
"You know she's an Uchiha right?" Boruto asked, giving Yuji a pensive look, his tone was measured, a subtle warning laced within his words. Yuji's brows furrowed in confusion, sensing a shift in the atmosphere.
"Well, yeah. I mean... doesn't that mean she's a blue blood and..." Pink brows immediately shot up and he looked back at Boruto, his face expressing realization and a hint of fear.
"Yeah." Boruto nodded simply.
Yuji's eyes widened in apprehension. "Shit. I should have figured it out when I saw her tattoo. I mean, it's sexy and all, but I don't want her old man coming after me."
Boruto sighed, shaking his head. "You've gotta think with your head, not your dick, Yuji. Messing with her could land you in deep trouble with the biggest Yakuza boss in Tokyo, maybe even Japan. Dating the daughter of a Yakuza boss might sound exciting, but you don't want to get on Sasuke Uchiha's bad side."
Yuji swallowed hard, he's had his own fair share of unlucky encounters with Yakuza, heck some his family members are part of one but he definitely didn't wanna mess with Uchihas. While Yuji was scared shitless of them, Boruto was a fanboy. During his rebellious phase, he'd joined a gang and even honed on his sword wielding skills, got a huge tattoo on his upper body that none of his friends had ever seen. He was at a dark phase of his life and that was where he met Sasuke Uchiha, the man who saved him.
He abandoned that life and decided to start over but...things didn't go well from there. He blames himself for it, though. If he didn't get mixed up in all that Yakuza shit, he wouldn't be in the mess he was now.
When he'd started schooling here and met Sarada, he thought he'd catch just a glimpse of Sasuke Uchiha, but no.
Sarada was nothing like her father. Maybe she looked like him and was as cold as he was but that particular side of Sasuke was non-existent in her.
Must have skipped her then.
He was disappointed but was also careful around her. He knew she was curious of him to an extent and knew how to hide it well, it would be risky if she found out his real identity.
"Earth to Bolt-kun~" Yuji's voice snapped Boruto out of his reverie and he blinked before sighing and rubbing his head sheepishly.
"Sorry, I spaced out there."
Yuji shot him a worried look, wondering what was going through his blonde friend's head. In their friend circle, they were closest to each other, having a lot of similarities at least as far as what Yuji knew about Boruto. Boruto never told him anything and deep down he knew the guy was suffering but just didn't want to talk, it hurt him seeing him like this.
"You know you can tell me if anything's bothering you," Yuji offered, his voice laced with genuine concern.
Boruto mustered a small smile and gently booped Yuji's nose. "Not today," he replied cryptically, before turning and continuing their journey back to the dorm.
As they headed back to the dorm, Yuji couldn't shake this weird feeling. Boruto always had this mysterious aura from the first day they met, like there's more to him than meets the eye. No matter how close they were, Boruto still had these walls up, keeping his real thoughts locked away. Yuji respected that and let him keep his secrets, but damn, sometimes he wishes Boruto would let him in a bit more. The nightmares, the manic episodes, the suicidal jokes. It wasn't normal, not like he was any more normal.
What was he hiding and what had he gone through? Yuji was always curious, but for now, he'll just keep wondering about the secrets Boruto is keeping to himself. Maybe one day, Boruto will open up. Who knows?
We're wrapped up on Boruto's chapter. Fir those who feel he's a little OOC, you HAVE to catch up on Boruto TBV, it's simply amazing and you'll find that he's actually IN character. Hope you enjoyed this chapter, let me know what you think! ;)
