It turned out that Jason could be as stern as the other members of the family when he was lecturing her. He was mad that she wouldn't tell him where she had been, but he didn't force her to talk.

If anything, he seemed mad that she didn't trust him enough to tell him, but it wasn't a matter of trust. She didn't want Father to know and didn't want to force her brother to keep secrets from Father.

Cain and Brown were different. They were trusted with many secrets and had no problem with keeping those secrets. She just needed a little more time, and when she finally fixed everything, she would tell them the full story.

In the end, Jason finally gave up, and they both headed down for breakfast. It was a silent affair. Father was already at WE, and Grayson was back in Bludhaven. Things have finally calmed down a bit in Gotham, which was both a good and a bad sign in this city.

Jason had to leave after breakfast. Since she wasn't officially grounded, she was going to head out and do some investigation.

She had a suspect. A new drug dealer in the market who was trying to keep it low. There was talk of an underground fighting ring. Jade only knew because there were a few ex-assassins hiding from the league in Gotham.

She had a deal with them. Each time their cases were related to the league or there was a possibility for someone from the league to be in town, she would give them a heads-up.

She also kept their records clean and helped them work for some smaller Wayne founded organizations in positions that were not front-facing. It was easy enough to pull the strings. Not even her family was aware of this.

In return, they acted as her eyes and ears. They gave annual reports so she was aware of their safety, but if there was something more immediate, they had emergency contacts to reach her.

Of course, none of this ever happened in person, so they could all protect their identities. They also didn't go out of their ways to investigate or get involved, since they didn't want to compromise their identity.

One of her contacts worked in the call center. He recently noticed the number of calls for an ambulance from a certain street has increased. Every time, the gist of the call was the same.

Some guys got drunk and fought each other. One got too beat up, and they needed the ambulance. The calls happened around the same time for the past 2 months, at least twice a week.

This could mean an illegal fighting ring. After Gordon broke into the hospital records and did some investigation for her, the case became more urgent. There were drug traces in their bodies. Not only that, they showed the exact same symptoms of the new fear toxin.

After Cain and Brown broke into the place at her request, they found out that there was some sort of drug that the fighters were all taking before their fight. It made the fights much more violent and, in other terms, more profitable.

They've narrowed down the suspects of who could be the supplier down to a few people. Today, Jade was going to do a little investigation to see if she could narrow down the list.

Her first target was a nurse in a retirement house. His records said that he was an orphan with no family. He barely made enough to support himself, yet he bought quite an expensive car recently.

His reports from work mentioned that recently, he had been quite snappy with the patients. He was not doing well due to attitude changes, and they were thinking of letting him go.

A little look into his bank account showed that he was not doing quite well. Yet he suddenly paid in cash for an expensive car at a dealership. There were a few possibilities, but the fact that Cain saw him in the crowd when they were checking the fighting ring didn't do him well.

Cain was looking for people in the crowd who were there yet didn't pay attention to the matches or other entertainment. These people were usually using the cover of crowd to conduct other business and that was what they were looking for.

So Jade was here now. In the guy's apartment. Gordon had security cameras zoomed in on the guy's location. He wouldn't be able to get back without Jade having enough time to make a clean exit.

Gordon was also keeping an eye on the apartment complex in general in case anyone entered the building. Jade was quick and methodical. Searching every inch of the house while trying not to leave any evidence.

The apartment was quite simple and bare. It made her search for anything out of place easier. She was about to give up when she found something. A new fancy-looking phone, hidden quite deep in the closet.

She connected it to her device as she gave the signal for Gordon to start hacking into the device. It should have taken a few minutes for her to have had some time to clear any evidence of her presence.
