Chapter 5 - Prelude to Round 2

"Welcome everyone to Citadel Network News. My name is Seyifma Besava and today we have a special edition dedicated to the replay of Round 1 and the preparations for Round 2 of War Games Council Races. Today in the studio with me is Admiral Saryxeux M'priros of the Asari 6th fleet."

"Regards, viewers."

"Admiral, what do you think of the current results?"

"Well, the Humans destroying the Batarians was very predictable. In smaller unit tactics, the Humans may very well have been the best in the galaxy, just due to the direct combat with pirates, mercenaries, and slavers in their territories. And then there's the typical incompetence of the Batarian Admiral, who probably gained this position after a large number of bribes."

"Well, but what do you think about the other fights?"

"The battles between my friend and the Turians, as well as Volus and Elcor, were very close and could have easily gone either way. It was a very learning loss and very painful for many of us. But the fight between the Hanar and the Salarians was easily the biggest surprise."

"Yes. Who would have thought that the Hanar would not only defeat the Salarians but also do it in such spectacular fashion? That initial charge completely threw everything off balance and destroyed the Salarians' plans. After that, it was almost pure clearing out of the enemy forces. Honestly, if the Salarians had gotten away with failing to recover, they would bring general disgrace to the Citadel forces and their status as one of the Council Races."

"You're exaggerating. It's true, that the Hanars' plan worked, but sometimes such disasters happen. The Hanars were simply better this time."

"Okay. Back to the results, System Alliance and Illuminated Primacy are leading with 3 points. The most pacifist Citadel Race and the newcomer. That's certainly a surprise. Then Turian Hierarchy and Vol Protectorate in second place with 2 points after their close victories. In third place Courts of Dekuuna and Asari Republics are left with only one point, thanks to their exceptionally good performance and close fight. Salarian Union and Batarian Hegemony are in last place without points after their somewhat humiliating defeats. Some of these places are surprising, but will it last? We'll see about that on the next day of our War Games."
