Ever since the day Jaune brought up what she was greedy for, Vernal couldn't get the thought out of her mind. Finding out about her past never really bothered her at first but as days passed and she witnessed how her leader acted around their mistress, Vernal wondered if she had something like that with her family as well. Her finger tapped against the wood of her desk as she thought about how her old life could've been like.

The image of her sitting with a man she'd call dad while they fished for food seemed nice. Then she thought of the possibility of standing in the kitchen with a women she'd call mom while they baked cakes and other sweets together. Those thoughts were nice and would be a dream come true if any one of them were real. A sigh escaped her lips as she scratched the wood of her desk. She had been so lost in thought that she hadn't heard Salem calling on her to answer the question on the board. Cinder silently giggled cause she knew that their mistress would undoubtable punish the brunette for slacking off in class.

Jaune raised his hand all of a sudden, gaining the attention of his mother.

"Is there something you needed Jaune"?

The blonde stood up from his seat "I don't think Vernal is feeling well today". He looked over to his friend and saw she was still lost in her thoughts. "She's been like that since this morning and with all the training we've been doing lately I think she's probably really tired". Salem thought about it for a moment "I suppose you all have been working hard lately, very well take her back to her room and make sure she get's plenty of rest, we'll pick this up tomorrow when your all well rested, understood?

Jaune nodded "thanks mom" he said before quickly leaving his seat to help Vernal back to her room. The brunette snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a tug on her arm. She looked over to see her leader pulling on her arm. "Jaune what are you..." she was cut off when he covered her mouth with his hand. Jaune looked up to make sure his mother was busy cleaning up before he leaned over to whisper "keep quiet and follow me".

Vernal didn't know what this was all about but chose to follow him anyways since it looked like class was over. When they were in the hall and a short distance from the library she caught Jaunes hand and forced him to look her way. "Hey, are you going to tell me where we're going"? Jaune smiled sheepishly "I actually thought we'd grab a bite in the kitchen and you could tell me what's on your mind while we're there". Vernal was silent as she stared at him. She sighed before crossing her arms "alright, I was getting hungry anyways" she said.

He ignored his mothers words and went to the kitchen with Vernal where he had started up the stove to make grilled cheese sandwiches for the both of them. Jaune hummed to himself as he thought of something that would go well with his grilled cheese sandwich. Reaching into the cupboard and he drew a can filled with the perfect soup for the occasion.

When he came to the table he placed a stack of grilled cheese sandwiches in between them and two bowls, one for each of them. Vernal looked into the bowl and frowned "what kinda soup is this? It's red". The blonde smiled "it's called tomato soup" he answered dutifully. Vernal blanched at the response "I refuse to drink that slop". Jaunes response was to shrug and help himself to the sandwiches he made. Taking one in his hand he tore it in two and proceeded to dip one half into the soup before taking a bite.

Vernal watched his face to see if there was a hint of disgust but noticed nothing at all. Feeling like she needed to be as brave as her leader, Vernal followed in his footsteps and dipped her sandwich into the hot soup. After coming this far she couldn't back down so she took a deep breath and took the plunge by taking a big bite out of the sandwich. What she didn't expect was for the two dishes to go so well with each other. One bite became two, and before she knew it the entire sandwich had vanished.

"Good right"?

Vernal looked up to see her leader with a large grin on his face. She tried to growl but it came out as a grumble because her mouth was full with food. When she swallowed, she shyly nodded her head.

Jaune tilted his head slightly and rested it in the palm of his hand. "Since we're alone now do you want to tell me what you've been thinking about? Besides class, you haven't even responded to Cinders usual barbs about your intellect". Vernal grabbed another sandwich, tore a piece and began to nibble on it to delay having to speak the truth. It didn't last however and when there wasn't any grilled cheese sandwiches left to hide behind she spilled the truth.

"I was thinking what my family might be like, what I was like back then you know? Vernal isn't the name my parents left me so what was I called back then? Those questions have just been piling up ever since you told me what I was greedy for". Vernal swirled the leftover soup in her bowl with her finger as she sighed deeply. "I don't know maybe I'm just being an idiot or something, thinking about some people who might even be dead for all I know".

Jaune rose from his seat "then why don't we find out" he said. Vernal raised a brow "you know we got class tomorrow and then there's the problem with actually finding out who these people are without any clues. Also if we were to even make an attempt at this we wouldn't get very far because we're trapped in the grimmlands and neither of us knows how to fly a bullhead".

"The bullhead problems easy to handle if we convince master to help us" the blonde said

"And what about the fact we don't have any clues to start with"?

Jaune smiled knowingly "we do have a clue to start us off with" he said happily. Vernal hanged on his words, she didn't think they had anything to go on but if they did then maybe, just maybe they could learn something. "Where we found you when you were injured, mistral" the blonde finished. Vernal palmed her face "do you have any idea how big mistral is? It'll be like finding a needle in a haystack"!

Jaune shrugged his shoulders "it's a start right? Besides we have Haven's headmaster on our side so it should be a lot easier if we get Lionheart to help us". The brunette tapped her chin in thought before shaking her head "none of this is gonna matter if we can't convince master Alec to help us you know". Jaune smiled at his friend "leave that to me".

Vernals forgotten passed arc has begun. It won't be too long...I hope.
