"I SUMMON THE UPGRADE MONSTER – VIRUS DEMON DIABLOSIS!"
That was the exact declaration spoken not too long ago by Mira's opponent, Ganymede. Previously, Mira had pursued him in an attempt to rescue Reggie from his clutches, which turned out to be a ruse. The Game Duel that followed ended up becoming a Game Duel of life and death after Ganymede forced Mira to duel upon activating his 'Itzamna's Spirit Battle' card, entrapping both duelists with the decree that the one who lost would be "offered to Itzamna," whatever that meant.
Now, Ganymede had just summoned Virus Demon Diablosis – a mechanical counterpart of the sinful ka, Diabound, who had emerged from a pillar that was a mixture of lava and yellow electricity. But to make matters worse, Diablosis acquired a significant power boost – not only from the Core Spell it was injected with, but also from both the Game Duel Field's Terrain and the power of 'Itzamna's Spirit Battle'. [SUP ATK: 3700 / GRADE: SUP / CORE: 3]
Ganymede laughed at both his monster's summoning and Mira's supposed predicament. "Prepare yourself, Wielder!" he gloatingly declared. "With my monster and the power of Itzamna's Spirit Battle, everything's in place to defeat you once and for all!" Mira tried to maintain her composure, but she couldn't help but anticipate what she was truly up against.
YU-GI-OH! CHRONIXII
LEVEL 1-9
THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT IN ALBA LITORA
As Ganymede was being boastfully triumphant about the duel presumably turning to his favor, the slowly anguished Reggie looked back and forth at both participants. Mira had a fair amount of Life Points remaining, and her powered-up Chronogias was on her field. [SUP ATK: 2400 / GRADE: SUP / CORE: 2] [LP: 3400] Her opponent, however, had a significantly more powerful monster on his field, despite having significantly less Life Points than Mira. [SUP ATK: 3700 / GRADE: SUP / CORE: 3] [LP: 2000]
But as Reggie spectated the duel, she slowly began to feel overwhelmed by guilt. She defiantly chose to sneak out of the orphanage past curfew to participate in a special event to acquire rare cards. She assumed that Mira came to the streets of Alba Litora to join in on the ongoing campaign, when she was actually there to rescue her. And she deliberately ignored Mira's pleas to return to the orphanage for their own safety. All of Reggie's selfish and defiant actions led up to the dangerous duel Mira was stuck in, and the risks that came with it.
'Mira… I'm so sorry…!' Reggie thought in agony. 'I should've listened to you, but I didn't! Please… whatever you do, find a way to beat this guy! 'Cause if you don't…' Her eyes started to well up with tears. '…you're gonna lose more than just the duel!'
"It's still my turn, Wielder!" Ganymede laughed as he grabbed another card from his hand. "And I activate the Spell Card, Contingency Fee!" After swiping the card through one of his blade's slots, an EARTH Spell Card appeared, its artwork depicting a black-suited ninja taking out his sword with an open briefcase of banknotes behind him. "This card forces you to draw until you have six cards in your hand! But for every card you draw, I regain one thousand Life Points!"
"Hold on," Pinkie said, noticing her partner's empty hand. "You have no cards in your hand!"
"I know," Mira said glumly. "That means I'm forced to draw six cards." Her ring appeared around her wrist, six stacked cards materializing in front of the topmost ridge. Mira uncaringly drew the six cards.
"And I'll be gaining six thousand Life Points!" Ganymede cackled as he was briefly shrouded by a white miasma. [LP: 2000 – 8000]
"So now Ganymede has a monster with close to four thousand Attack Points and eight thousand Life Points?!" the horrified Reggie cried.
"Ooh, my Fandreas are just loving the drama going on!" Andrea squealed, looking at her smartphone. "When it comes to dramatic duels like this, Mira sure doesn't disappoint!"
"Andrea, Mira's life is at stake!" Reggie argued. "Ganymede said that this 'Itzamna's Spirit Battle' thing will steal the loser's soul!"
"I didn't forget, and I'm truly sorry that Mira's still in this pickle," Andrea said, and she really meant it. "But I gotta appeal to my Fandreas one way or another!"
Reggie ignored that comment and focused her attention back on Mira. 'C'mon, Mira…!' she pleaded in her mind.
"Even if you did regain so many Life Points by forcing me to draw," Mira said, back in the duel, "I still don't see what you're up to!"
"You're about to find out!" Ganymede beamed. "I activate the Super Effect of Virus Demon Diablosis! By using one Core, you take damage equal to the total number of cards both in your hand and on your field, multiplied by one hundred! I count a total of eight cards – six in your hand, and two on your field!" One of the orbs of the mechanical demon turned off as an orb of electricity formed in between its wings. [CORE: 3 2] But it wasn't long before some bolts of electricity shot out of the orb, striking at Mira's field. [LP: 3400 – 2600]
"But that's not all! By activating Diablosis' effect, all of your monsters lose Attack Points equal to the same amount of damage I've inflicted! That means your precious Chronogias loses eight hundred Attack Points!" Some of the electricity also struck at Chronogias, who roared in agony. [SUP ATK: 2400 – 1600]
After the electricity diminished, Mira shouted, "Well, you've just activated one of my face-down cards: D-Chronomancy, Effect Paradox!" Her ILLUSION MAGIC Trap Card, picturing Destiny Hero Dystopia emerging from a wormhole to intercept Shining Flare Wingman's incoming attack against Shining Phoenix Enforcer, materialized.
"Since you just activated a monster effect, this Trap Card lets me activate the effect of a monster on my side of the field! And I activate the Super Effect of Chronogias himself – by using one Core, your monster loses fifteen hundred Attack Points!" Chronogias's outer hexagon turned off as lavender digital fire formed in its mouth. [CORE: 2 – 1] But it wasn't long before Chronogias unleashed a burst of lavender fire at the mechanical demon. [SUP ATK: 3700 – 2200]
"Heh! Diablosis is still stronger than your Chronogias!" Ganymede said with a huff. "But before I attack, I'll activate another Spell Card – Trojan Disrupt Virus!" After swiping the card through one of his blade's slots, another THUNDER Spell Card materialized. This time, its artwork depicted bolts of an electrical surge electrocuting three small digital humanoid beings.
"This card forces you to send all the Monster Cards in your hand directly to the Graveyard! And for each monster sent, you lose three hundred Life Points! Now, let's see how many Monster Cards reside in your hand!" Six cards materialized in front of Mira, much to her surprise. Afterwards, electrical bolts shot out of Ganymede's card at three of the cards, shattering them into pixels. The electricity also struck at Mira, who yelped in pain. [LP: 3400 – 2500]
"Next, I place this face-down!" Ganymede continued, taking the last card in his hand and swiping it through one of his blade's slots. A card materialized behind the mechanical demon before disappearing.
"Time to battle! Diablosis, destroy that Wielder's Chronogias!" Ganymede commanded, viciously pointing at Chronogias. Some dark yellow electricity formed in the mechanical demon's left claw, which it unleashed at Chronogias, shattering it into pixels. The electricity also struck at Mira, who tried her hardest to protect herself. [LP: 2500 – 1900]
"I'm… still standing…!" Mira groaned.
"Not for much longer, I'm afraid!" Ganymede corrected her. "I activate the Trap Card, Second Strike Virus!" A THUNDER Trap Card picturing Zaborg the Thunder Monarch unleashing a wave of lightning against a comically panicking Truckroid materialized. "Since my THUNDER-Attribute monster just attacked you, it gets to attack you again! Of course, it loses one thousand Attack Points when it does, but every bit helps in defeating you!" More electricity formed in Diablosis's left claw. [SUP ATK: 2200 – 1200]
"Now, go!" Without the faintest hesitation, the demon unleashed the electricity directly at Mira, slamming her across the fire ring's invisible barrier as she dropped to one knee, breathing rather heavily. [LP: 1900 – 700]
"Mira!" Reggie and Andrea wailed.
"My turn's over, Wielder," Ganymede sinisterly announced. "But do you think you have what it takes to defeat me?" The mechanical demon unleashed a soft but sinister growl. [SUP ATK: 1200 – 2200]
Even though Mira was in quite a predicament, she wasn't going to give up so easily – especially when the lives of herself and her friends were at stake. "It's… it's my turn!" she said, struggling to get herself up. Once she did, her ring appeared around her wrist once again, two stacked cards materializing in front of the topmost ridge. "I draw!" she shouted, drawing the cards.
"Mira, do something!" Pinkie pleaded, much to Mira's chagrin. "You're down to seven hundred Life Points, and Ganymede has eight thousand! And don't forget about his Diablosis, and what it can do!"
"I know what's going on!" Mira barked. Slightly calming down, she looked at the contents of her hand. "And I already know how to get rid of that monster of his, at least!"
Returning her focus to the duel at hand, she grabbed a card and said, "I activate the Spell Card, D-Chronomancy, Paradox Draw!" The ILLUSION MAGIC Spell Card, depicting the two lights being sucked into the Battle City Disk's Graveyard while its duelist was drawing two cards, materialized. "By sending two cards from my hand to the Graveyard, I get to take two different cards in my Graveyard and place them back on top! Then, I get to draw the two cards! And I know just the cards to choose!"
Two cards materialized in front of Mira, but she swiped her fingertips across them, causing them to pixelate. It wasn't long before her ring appeared once again. Two streaks of hot pink light shot up from the green-slotted ridge to the red-slotted one, before transforming into two stacked cards, which Mira drew. After drawing them, a fierce look of determination spread across her eyes.
"Since I drew it this turn and have no monsters on my field, I'm now able to summon an old friend of mine – Destiny Dragon Chronogias!"
After slapping the card onto her blade's centermost floating zone, the pillar of lavender light shot up from behind her, and Chronogias flew out of it, unleashing a triumphant roar.
"And just like that, I'll inject it with Upgrade Core Super, bringing it to its 'Super' Grade!" Sure enough, Mira slid the Core Card directly underneath Chronogias's card counterpart, lighting up its two hexagons as the dragon unleashed another roar. [SUP ATK: 2400 / GRADE: SUP / CORE: 2]
"Now I use Chronogias's Super Effect! As you'll remember, I can, and I will, use one Core to weaken your Diablosis by another fifteen hundred Attack Points!" [CORE: 2 – 1] And sure enough, after Chronogias's outer hexagon became unlit, the dragon unleashed another burst of lavender digital fire at the mechanical demon, who unleashed another cry of agony. [SUP ATK: 2200 – 700]
Upon seeing all this, Ganymede just crossed his arms and scoffed. "You retrieve both Chronogias and your Core Card through your 'Paradox Draw' Spell, and you immediately decide to use Chronogias's effect to weaken my monster even further – how predictable of you, Wielder!"
"Well, how's this for 'predictable?!'" Mira defiantly shouted at him. "I activate Chronogias's Base Effect! By sending one Spell Card from my hand to the Graveyard, I get to take a different Spell Card that's in my Graveyard, and return it to my hand!" Mira held up a card in her hand, which immediately pixelated. Afterwards, her ring appeared once again, and a streak of hot pink light shot from the green-slotted ridge and into Mira's hand, transforming into a new card.
"I'll go ahead and activate the Spell Card I just got back: Double Spell!" After swiping the card through one of her blade's slots, the iconic Spell Card, depicting the two wizards facing each other and generating two mystical orbs of different colors, materialized. Akin to Game Duels, the card was of the BLACK MAGIC Attribute.
"By sending one Spell Card from my hand to the Graveyard, I'm allowed to take any Normal Spell Card in your Graveyard that I'm able to activate, and activate it as my own Spell Card!" Another card materialized in Mira's hand, which immediately pixelated. "The card I choose… is your Contingency Fee!"
"No… You can't!" Ganymede panicked. But it was too late. A streak of dark yellow light shot out of his crystal, right onto Mira's field before transforming into the same EARTH Spell Card depicting the black-suited ninja in front of the money case.
"Now you get to draw until you have six cards in your hand, and I'll regain one thousand Life Points for each one!" Ganymede fumed as he was forced to draw the six stacked cards that materialized above the crystal on his wrist. Afterwards, Mira was briefly shrouded by the electrical yellow aura. [LP: 700 – 6700]
"All right!" Reggie cheered with a leap. "Mira used Ganymede's own Spell Card against him, and now she has almost as many Life Points as he does!"
"And with the way she brought out Chronogias to weaken his pile of electrical junk," Andrea excitedly added, "he's gonna be in for it now!"
"Chronogias, take out his Diablosis!" Mira shouted, pointing directly at the mechanical demon. Chronogias unleashed a spiral of lavender digital fire from its mouth, incinerating the mechanical demon, who roared in agony as it dissipated. [LP: 8000 – 6300]
"Now we're close to even! Unfortunately, I can't do anything else this turn, so you're up!"
"Indeed, I am!" Ganymede growled. "Unfortunately, since I have more than five cards in my hand, I can't draw any cards during the Draw Phase. …Then again, I don't need to!"
Mira's eyes widened in surprise. "You… you don't?" she muttered.
"Of course not! In your desperate attempt to recover Life Points, you forced me to draw multiple cards with my own Contingency Fee. But in doing so, I now have just the cards I need to annihilate you once and for all!
"Behold – the Spell Card, Upgrade Resurgam!" After viciously swiping the card through one of his blade's slots, a BLACK MAGIC Spell Card materialized on his field. Its artwork depicted Hyper Machine King – the same Upgrade Monster Kero used in his duel against Homanu – furiously rising from the depths of the earth, as if it were seeking revenge.
"This card lets me resurrect any Upgrade Monster that's in my Graveyard! Return, Virus Demon Diablosis!" Another pillar of electrical yellow light shot up from the pit of lava, and the mechanical demon emerged out of it. Upon its emergence, the golden symbol appeared on its forehead.
"Great, not this guy again!" Reggie groaned, placing a hand over her eyes.
"Calm yourself, child," the morbidly annoyed Ganymede said. "The monster I just resurrected cannot attack or activate any of its effects, and will immediately be destroyed once my turn ends."
"So, if it can't attack or use any of its effects," Pinkie observed, crossing her arms, "then why even bring it back? Is he just tryin' to intimidate you?"
"No…" Mira worriedly said, narrowing her eyes. "I have a feeling he's up to something else…"
"How right you are!" Ganymede laughed, grabbing a card from his hand. "I may not be able to attack you with my revived Diablosis… but I can do this!" He revealed a familiar dark gray and seemingly rusted card that startled Mira to her core.
"Itzam Incarnate!" Mira gasped.
"Correct!" Ganymede cried. "It's Itzam Incarnate – the same card I used to infect your friends' decks with, so I could flush you out!"
Reggie, who overheard this bit of exposition, suddenly remembered the duel she had against Mira the day before, especially when she was about to be possessed by that card. 'Wait… would that explain why I suddenly blacked out in my duel against Mira?!' she horrifyingly thought.
"Now it's my turn, Wielder!" Ganymede laughed. "I inject Diablosis with Itzam Incarnate!"
After viciously sliding the card directly under Diablosis's card counterpart, the same slender figure depicted on the card appeared beside the mechanical demon, only to immediately fly into its chest. Afterwards, the mechanical demon unleashed another roar that was an unusual mixture of triumph and agony.
"Diablosis injected with Itzam Incarnate – UPGRADE!" Ganymede maniacally bellowed as the demon's body slowly transformed into dark yellow wires while sinking back into the lava pit. It eventually transformed into a pitch-black portal with dark yellow pixels. Seeing this, Ganymede inexplicably leapt into the portal before it closed up.
"Is… is it over?" Andrea timidly asked.
"No… I have a hunch it's far from over…" Mira said quietly but ominously. And indeed, she was right.
Without warning, another burst that was a mixture of magma and electricity shot up from the lava pit, this one more intense than before. Emerging out of the lava pit was Diablosis, only much more monstrous than before. Some notable differences included a red Krana Xa that was implemented onto its face, and two cybernetic serpentine heads sticking out of the back of its shoulders. Its Core was represented as a large unlit orb on its chest, with five smaller ones surrounding it in a circular fashion. But what was even more shocking was that Ganymede was actually fused to the monster's forehead.
"WITH THE POWER OF ITZAMNA, I UPGRADE SUMMON – ITZAM VIRUS DEMON, DIABLOGENESIS!" Ganymede bellowed as the monstrous machine unleashed an intimidating roar, which horrified everyone else in the dueling area.
"Once I Upgrade Summon Diablogenesis, it immediately becomes the 'Ultra' Grade, and shall acquire the Cores associated with it – a total of six Cores! And with the power of both this Terrain and Itzamna's Spirit Battle, it shall become even stronger!" Diablogenesis unleashed another frightening roar as the six orbs on its chest began to shine bright purple. Additionally, the Xa engraved on its face amplified, while red miniaturized versions of the Xa appeared on the foreheads of its cybernetic serpent implants. [ULT: 4000 – 4700 / GRADE: ULT / CORE: 6]
"Forty-seven hundred Attack Points?!" Reggie cried. "There's no way Mira can beat it now!"
"And it's only getting worse!" Ganymed shouted, grabbing another card in his hand. "I activate the Spell Card, Virus Conversion!" After swiping the card through one of his blade's horizontal slots, a THUNDER Spell Card depicting a Virus Spawn transforming into a beartrap materialized.
"By sending one THUNDER-Attribute monster with one thousand or less Attack Points from my hand to the Graveyard, I get to take a THUNDER-Attribute Trap Card in my Graveyard, and return it to my hand! I send my third copy of Virus Spawn to the Graveyard, and retrieve Second Strike Virus!" Another card materialized in front of him, only to turn into a streak of light as it flew into the lava pit. A second streak of light flew out of the pit and transformed into another card in his hand.
"Now I activate Diablogenesis's Super Effect! You lose three hundred Life Points for every Virus Spawn that's in my Graveyard! I have three Virus Spawns in my Graveyard, which means you'll lose nine hundred Life Points!" Mira's eyes widened upon hearing that. But before she could say or do anything else, three Virus Spawns shot out of Diablogenesis's chest and struck directly at Mira, making her wince in pain as the three electrical creatures retreated to Diablogenesis. [LP: 6700 – 5800]
"But that was just the beginning!" Ganymede laughed haughtily. "It's time for the true spectacle – I use two Cores to activate Diablogenesis's Ultra Effect!" As two of the orbs on Diablogenesis's chest lit off, dark electrical fire formed in the mouths of its cybernetic snake prosthetics. [CORE: 6 – 4]
"Now you'll take even more damage – but this time, it will be one hundred multiplied by the number of cards in our hands and fields, as well as the number of THUNDER-Attribute cards that are in my Graveyard! Furthermore, every one of your monsters will lose Attack Points equal to the amount of damage I've inflicted!"
"That's insane!" the horrified Mira cried.
"Counting the number of such cards in our hands and fields, as well as the number of THUNDER cards in my Graveyard, I count a total of fifteen cards! That means you'll be losing fifteen hundred Life Points – the same amount of Attack Points your precious Chronogias will lose, as well!"
Mira, Reggie, and Andrea were all aghast by this revelation. The two cybernetic snakes unleashed bursts of electricity that struck at Mira and Chronogias. Mira screamed as she tried to withstand the electrical attack, while Chronogias roared in agony. [LP: 5800 – 4300] [SUP ATK: 2400 – 900]
"Luckily for you, your monster's Attack Points didn't drop to zero – otherwise, it would've been destroyed. No matter – attacking you will feel just as satisfying!" He viciously swiped two cards from his hand into his blade's horizontal slots, and two more cards materialized before disappearing.
"Battle! Itzam Virus Demon Diablogenesis, attack the Wielder and her pathetic Chronogias!" More electricity formed in the cybernetic snakes' mouths, as well as between the demon's wings, which became even more intense than before, much to everyone else's horror.
"ITZAM SURGE SLAUGHTER!"
The electricity fired directly at Mira's field, creating a massive explosion. Chronogias shattered into pixels, and Mira unleashed a loud, agonizing scream as she was flung into the air by the force of the explosion. [LP: 4200 – 400] But as she crashed into the invisible barrier behind her, the necklace flapped out from underneath her shirt. Ganymede's keen eye was quick to recognize the necklace, especially the symbol engraved on its crest. This was exactly what Ganymede wanted to see.
"I KNEW IT!" he gleefully screamed. "This commonplace girl is one of the Wielders we're seeking out! Oh, how I shall receive endless praise from Mistress Jupiter, knowing that I single-handedly annihilated she who turned out to be one of our targeted enemies!"
Reggie and Andrea had no idea what Ganymede was talking about, but they were too worried about Mira to care. That attack was all the physical punishment Mira could take, for she was badly bruised and breathing heavily as she struggled to get herself up. "You… haven't… won… yet…!" she groaned, heavily gasping every word she was able to speak.
"Maybe not," Ganymede taunted, "but the fact remains that I have an incredibly powerful monster, while your Life Points are merely hanging by a thread! It's your move – but it shall be the final draw of your life!"
Mira was too weak to even make a remark. She was too busy struggling to raise her trembling left arm up to her face. "It's… my…" she gasped. But she was unable to finish. She uncontrollably closed her eyes and lost consciousness, falling face flat on the floor.
This horrified Andrea, but Reggie was completely heartbroken. "Oh no… what have I done…?!" Reggie asked, once again crushed by guilt.
"Mira! Mira, please, get up!" Andrea pleaded. "We can't have you lying like this – what will all my Fandreas say?!"
"FORGET YOUR FUCKING FANDREAS!" Reggie tearfully screamed at the startled Andrea, too upset to realize that she used such excessive profanity. "MIRA'S PROBABLY DEAD, AND IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" Running to Mira's side, she pressed her hands against the invisible barrier that separated them both. "MIRA! I'M SORRY!" she wailed.
"Don't be sorry, child!" Ganymede mocked. "Had it not been for your connection to this Wielder, as well as your defiance towards adult authority, I wouldn't have been able to use you as the perfect bait to lure her into my trap! Because of you, we now have one less Wielder to intervene with the grand plan of the almighty Itzamna!" He laughed at his own triumph, which only increased Reggie's guilt and despair.
Still pressing herself against the barrier, Reggie continued her screaming at Mira's motionless body, hoping that her unconscious friend would at least hear laments. "Mira! I'm sorry!" she repeated her apologies, her eyes still streaming with tears. "I should've listened to you when I first decided to sneak out, and I should've listened to you when you told me to leave! But I didn't, and now you're probably dead because of me! And it's all my fault!
"I NEVER MEANT FOR ANY OF THIS TO HAPPEN!"
She then broke down, sobbing loudly. Andrea's eyes started to fill up with tears as well, as she slowly became devastated by both Mira's current condition and Reggie's overwhelming self-guilt. Even Pinkie was emotionally distraught at Mira's condition. But just when all hope was lost, the amethyst tablet on Mira's necklace began to shine – even more lustrously than it did before.
'Mira Yukiko, the time has come for my powers to awaken!' a deep female voice spoke. It was the same voice that spoke to Mira in her duels against Reggie and Yuri – the same voice that tried to convince Mira to use the otherworldly card she kept drawing in both those duels, when Reggie and Yuri were possessed by Itzam Incarnate.
It was then when a miracle happened. Mira actually came to and got herself up, and without the faintest difficulty despite her eyes still being closed. Seeing this brought tearful joy to Reggie's face. "Mira… you're back!" she cried in happiness. Andrea said nothing, but was just as tearfully relieved to see Mira back in action.
"WHAT?!" Ganymede screamed in disbelief. "After I attacked you, you should've been done for!"
"That's what you thought," Mira spoke in a tone slightly deeper from her usual voice. "But as her trusted Iroa, I refuse to let you harm her in the slightest!" She fiercely opened her eyes, revealing that both the irises and pupils were glowing bright green.
"Bastardly Pawn of Itzamna," the seemingly possessed Mira solemnly declared, "you will pay for all of the atrocities you have committed! It's my turn!" Her ring appeared around her wrist, five stacked cards materializing in front of the topmost ridge. As it happened in her previous duels against Reggie and Yuri, the cards were shrouded by a violet aura, but it was more lustrous than before. "I DRAW!" She valiantly drew the cards, and eyed at one of them. "Excellent!
"From my hand, I activate the card infused with my spirit! Behold!" She grabbed one of the cards and raised it up high. It was pitch black with its green metallic text written in an otherworldly language – the very same card Mira drew in her duels against Reggie and Yuri, but couldn't get herself to use. As she held the card, it was shrouded by a lavender miasma. "Infused with the Iroa of Darkness, I activate…
"SHAI'S WISDOM!"
The possessed Mira vigorously swiped the card through her blade's center horizontal slot. After the otherworldly card materialized, a woman slowly formed from digital lavender pixels, who bore a pair of glowing green eyes, and just so happened to be of Mira's height and build, complete with her hairstyle. Unbeknownst to Reggie and Andrea, this very woman happened to be the same mysterious figure Mira previously encountered back in Corycian Cave.
"Iroa of Darkness, activate your power!" Mira commanded, stretching out her left arm. The lavender woman also stretched her left arm, generating a lavender gear-shaped portal on the floor beside her. The gear slowly rotated clockwise, increasing in speed by the second. It wasn't long before Mira's ace dragon floated up from the spinning portal.
"It's Chronogias!" Andrea squealed with excitement. But her joy quickly diminished. "Wait! Even if she does find a way to get Chronogias to weaken Diablogenesis, it still won't be strong enough!"
"Don't worry!" Reggie exclaimed, having full faith in Mira after her miraculous recovery. "I'm sure Mira's got one last trick up her sleeve!"
"With Shai's special power," Mira solemnly explained, "I get to take any card that's resting in my Graveyard, and combine it with Shai to create something even stronger!"
"It can what?!" Ganymede cried in disbelief.
"Orbis Spirit of Shai, merge with Chronogias!" Mira boldly declared as the lavender woman flew directly into the cybernetic dragon's chest, transforming the dragon into lavender digital wires. Another set of arms formed and its wings appeared to slightly enlarge, but it wasn't long before a blinding burst of lavender light flashed before the audience.
"ARISE – DESTINY ORBIS DRAGONESS, CHRONOGIAS SHAI!"
Flying out of the exploding lavender light was Chronogias, only now it had four arms and slightly enlarged wings, just like it acquired during its transformation sequence. The dragon's eyes were now green, and it had a synthetic amethyst crystal on its forehead, as well as two silvery white spikes jutting out of the sides of its crest. The other noticeable differences were that its chest and cybernetic wings were silvery white, and in place of the hexagons on its chest was an unlit rune that had the same symbol engraved on Mira's amethyst tablet. Upon its emergence, the upgraded dragon unleashed an ear-piercing battle cry. [ULT ATK: 3000 / GRADE: ULT / CORE: 0]
"Chronogias Shai will always be of the 'Ultimate' Grade – but once she's summoned, she immediately acquires her Core!" Sure enough, the unlit rune on the dragon's chest lit up a bright purple. [CORE: 0 – 1]
"And I'll put that Core to good use by activating her Ultra Effect! By using her Core, all the cards in my Spell and Trap Card Zones will instantly be destroyed – but after that, I get to take three different Spell and Trap Cards of the ILLUSION MAGIC Attribute, and set them onto my side of the field! Now, go!" [CORE: 1 – 0] Two rays of lavender light streamed down from the dragon's wings onto Mira's field. Within a few seconds, three cards materialized from white-lavender light on Mira's field before they faded away, along with the rays of light. "Everything's all set for your ultimate defeat!
"I activate the first of my face-down cards – D-Chronomancy, Past Strength!" The Spell Card depicting the three phantasmal Necrolancers being absorbed into Chronogias materialized. "By returning up to three ILLUSION MAGIC-Attribute monsters with one thousand or less Attack Points into my deck, Chronogias Shai will gain Attack Points equal to their combined Attack Points this turn! I return my two copies of Destiny Hero Passer and my one copy of Destiny Hero Makyuron, whose Attribute is treated as ILLUSION MAGIC while in the Graveyard!" Two phantasmal version of Passer and a phantasmal version of the hero modeled after Makyura appeared, and were absorbed into the dragon's chest. [ULT ATK: 3000 – 5600]
"Then I activate my second face-down card – D-Chronomancy, Time Magic!" The Spell Card depicting Baby Dragon in front of the silhouette of Thousand Dragon, all in a rainbow vortex, materialized. "This card grants Chronogias Shai even more Attack Points – the difference between its original Attack Points, and its current Attack Points, which in this case is twenty-six hundred!" Chronogias Shai unleashed another triumphant roar as Ganymede started to tremble in fear. [ULT ATK: 5600 – 8200]
"Eighty-two hundred Attack Points!" Reggie cried with immense joy. "Now it's way stronger than that mechanical monster of his!"
"But it still won't be strong enough to wipe out the rest of Ganymede's Life Points!" Andrea fearfully said.
"I'll bet she has something big planned with her last face-down card!" Reggie said eagerly.
"Let's end this!" Mira shouted. "Chronogias Shai, attack his Diablogenesis!" An orb of lavender light formed in one of the dragon humanoid's hands, which it unleashed as an intense lustrous laser that headed directly towards Diablogenesis.
But Ganymede wasn't going to go down so easily. With a wave of his arm, he shouted, "I activate the Trap Card, Virus Shield!" A THUNDER Trap Card materialized, its artwork depicting an electrical veil protecting Zaborg the Thunder Monarch from the incoming attack of Super Vehicroid Stealth Union. "When you attack my THUNDER-Attribute Diablogenesis, it won't be destroyed by that battle!" The same electrical veil pictured on the card shrouded Diablogenesis.
"But you still take battle damage!" Mira reminded him. Despite Diablogenesis withstanding the attack, Ganymede screamed, protecting himself as he was struck by the lavender laser. [LP: 6300 – 2800]
Once the laser diminished, Ganymede snickered conceitedly as he lowered the arm that shielded him. "It looks like your attempt to destroy Diablogenesis was all for naught!" he gloated. "And since you've done all you possibly could this turn, that means it'll be my turn again, to which I shall annihilate you once and for all!" He laughed haughtily, which increased the horrified worries of Reggie and Andrea.
"Too bad you won't get a next turn!" the unphased Mira declared, to Ganymede's confusion. "I expected that you'd find some way to protect your monster, which is why I've prepared for this exact moment!"
Ganymede was flabbergasted by that comment. "But… but you attacked me with all of your monsters!" he protested, frantically pointing at her dragon humanoid. "And there's no second Main Phase in Game Duels! So there's nothing more you can possibly do!"
"I can still use this – the Trap Card, D-Chronomancy, Battle Rehash!" Mira boldly corrected him as she activated her Trap Card. The ILLUSION MAGIC Trap Card depicting the blue ogre flying out of Timeater's clock materialized.
Seeing this made Ganymede aghast. "But… but you can't activate Trap Cards the turn they are set!" he argued.
"With Chronogias Shai's effect," Mira explained, "any Trap Cards I place face-down are allowed to be activated the same turn! And with Battle Rehash's effect, Chronogias Shai can attack your Diablogenesis once again!" Another orb of lavender light formed in the dragon humanoid's hands, this one more lustrous than the previous one.
"IMPOSSIBLE!" Ganymede screamed in horror.
"This is for all the hell you've imposed on the companions of my Wielder!" Mira solemnly declared. "Chronogias Shai, wipe out his Diablogenesis and the rest of his Life Points!"
The dragon humanoid unleashed another lustrous laser at the monstrous mechanical demon. It struck at both Diablogenesis and Ganymede himself, the latter of whom screamed in agony as his mechanical steed was obliterated, creating a massive explosion on his field. [LP: 2800 – 0] After his defeat, a virtual screen displaying Mira's profile with 'WIN' written underneath popped open.
"Mira won! She actually won!" Reggie cheered, tightly hugging the equally excited Andrea.
"I know, right?!" Andrea exclaimed. Looking at her phone, she added, "My Fandreas just loved the outcome – even more than Mira's previous two outcomes!"
With the duel now over, the smoke began to clear, only to reveal that the loser, Ganymede, had his lower body completely severed by the attack. His orb was slowly flashing and circuiting as he struggled to get himself up. But as he did, the seal shrunk until it was underneath Ganymede. "You… may have won… Wielder…" he vowed with his voice cracking and groaning, "…but this battle… is far… from over…!" Without warning, a burst of yellow ectoplasm was torn out of the orb in his chest and spiraled upwards. Afterwards, the seal underneath him faded away – unfortunately, this caused his lifeless body to plummet into the lava before the pit was closed off.
Once the pit was closed off, Mira's tablet stopped glowing, which returned Mira's eyes to their regular state. But as soon as Mira herself went back to normal, she heavily gasped, and fell face first, unconscious once again.
"MIRA!" Reggie screamed, horrified to see her friend blacking out once again. She quickly rushed over to Mira's side, desperately propping her up. "Don't just stand there!" Reggie barked to the agitated Andrea. "Get help, quick!"
"R-r-right!" Andrea panicked, twitchingly calling for an ambulance.
"Mira! Are you okay?!" Reggie tearfully pleaded, shaking her unconscious friend. "MIRA! MIRA!" she wailed, sobbing out of panic.
