Jon slowed down and stopped to check on Ponch. He ran up to him just as Ponch was getting up.
"You alright?"
"I'm fine. Let's get this clown." They grabbed a hold of Ponch's bike and forced it back up. Then they took off after the vehicle again. Jon radioed in to find out where the mustang was.
"LA 15 7 Mary 3 and 4 what is your location 7 Adam?"
"Just turning off Arlington St. Don't worry guys. I'm still on his tail."
Ponch and Jon made their way over there. This time, the mustang was headed their way, driving on the wrong side of the road. Ponch and Jon made an opening in the middle of them so the car can pass.
This time, Ponch radioed. "Is there any other available units that could help us get this guy?"
Grossman came over the radio. "I'm joining the fun Ponch."
Grossman came from a side street and cut the mustang off but the mustang didn't stop. He turned onto the freeway. Now, there were three patrol cars and three motorcycles after it.
"At this rate, we will never catch him!" Ponch said.
"Never say never partner. Have a little faith."
The car got off on the Hollywood freeway. He sped up so he could lose the officers behind him. He was finally ahead enough that he turned into a parking lot and turned off his car so he wouldn't be seen. All the officers passed him and one by one, they stopped. Grossman, Ponch and Jon got off their bikes and met Baricza at his car as he got out.
"Any sign of him?" Grossman asked.
"Negative. We lost him." Jon said as he took his radio. "LA 15 7 Mary 3 we have a code 4. We lost the suspect." Jon pretty much threw the radio and it dangled off his bike.
"So I guess we're all working nights?" Ponch asked.
Grossman nodded. "Didn't Gatraer tell you? He wants everyone on this."
"No he didn't. He just said me and Jon were on it."
"Come on. Let's do a grid search. Maybe we can spot him." Jon said as he mounted his bike. He put the radio back in place.
They all separated and began searching. By this time, it was getting close to 11pm.
Gatraer radioed them all. "I need you all to come in."
"10-4." They said one by one.
Jon met Ponch again and they rode together to the station.
Once there, all four of them made their way inside. Gatraer met them at the briefing room.
"I know you guys are tired. Go home. Get some rest. You'll be starting early tomorrow."
"How early?" Ponch asked.
"0600. I know it's late and you probably won't get enough sleep but I need all four of you in."
"Yes sir." Jon and Grossman said at the same time.
"Go on. Get out of here."
They all walked out together and headed for their bikes.
"Hasta la vista guys." Ponch said.
"Bye Ponch. Oh, tomorrow I'll just meet you here." Jon said as he took off before Ponch could say anything.
The next morning, Jon met Ponch in the briefing room and sat next to him. Ponch looked a mess, which made Jon smile.
"You okay Ponch?"
"Didn't get much sleep. How do you look so good after getting less than 5 hours?"
"To be honest Ponch, I didn't sleep. How could I after the night we had?"
"What were you doing all last night?"
"I was going over the many ways we could have caught this guy. We need to have patrol cars at every intersection."
"We don't have that many patrol cars Jon."
"I know."
Gatraer walked in and spoke.
"Okay. Morning everyone. As you all know, we are trying to track down this red mustang with the license plate of Echo Bravo Tango 385. It was last seen on I-10 heading tiward Hollywood Freeway. He is considered dangerous to pedestrians. Many of you will be pulling another double shift tonight. This time, I want him caught. No ifs ands or buts about it. Any questions?"
Ponch rose his hand.
"You forgot to mention the fact he almost caused an accident between me and Jon."
"Thanks for bringing that up. You both will not partner up tonight. You'll be riding solo so you can cover more ground. If you stop or something to eat, don't be too far from your radio. Ponch, now's the time to prove yourself."
