All right guys: some ground rules. First: this fic will get very dark at times: I will put warnings on individual chapters. Also, catching pokemon to be essentially brides/grooms is both legal and semi-common. The MC himself will be engaging in this practice. With that said, the MC will only take willing partners. He will tell all female pokemon he catches that he essentially wants them in his harem. They are free to leave at any time.
Warning: suicide will be discussed in this chapter.
Warnings update as of November 14/24: I know this story starts out really dark... oops: I love a good tragedy.
When I died, it must have been fast. Because I don't remember it at all. One moment I was walking on the sidewalk, the next I'm in a white void. Then as fast as I had arrived, I woke up again... but not in the same body.
No, the body I had woken up in was... foreign. This new body was... definitely younger. I was quite used to the familiar aches and pains of my body; this body held very few similar aches and pains. Oh for sure while I could feel a few, but they were very minor. As I shifted I realized I was a lot lighter than I remembered.
The next thing my mind processed was that I smelt disinfectants... like those in a hospital. I opened my eyes and looked at the completely unfamiliar ceiling. Turning my head from side to side I saw I was hooked up to various beeping machines. Definitely a hospital.
It was at this moment that I was hit by foreign memories. Both benign and uncomfortable thoughts from the old owner of this body began to deluge me. I weathered the onslaught for a few minutes in a great deal of pain, but eventually it faded... and I remembered everything.
In this body I was now ten years younger at eighteen. And I had all of it's previous host's memories... memories of living in the pokemon world of all places. The old owner of this body had been named Tobias - no not that Tobias.
Tobias was an overweight pokenet troll who didn't even have his own pokemon. His circumstances weren't even that far off from mine in my previous life. He lived with his parents, had a part-time job to pay their cheap rent, and didn't have any real friends; just familiar names in a chat room.
There were two big standout memories though... the old incident, and the more recent accident. Tobias hated thinking about the incident with a passion: it had left him soured on being a pokemon trainer, and had left a long trio of diagonal scar across his - my - torso.
The accident however... it had utterly crushed him. It was the reason I was now in this hospital in fact.
Tobias' parents had gone on a vacation to Kanto to visit distant relatives; his grandfather had emigrated from Kanto to Hoenn before the Kanto-Johto war. Tobias' parents had asked him to come with them, but he hadn't cared to try a new culture or visit random people he didn't know. Unfortunately for everyone involved, tragedy struck.
While flying over the ocean a freak horde of gyarados had started brawling for supremacy right underneath the plane. A stray hyper beam tore right through both wings and the middle of the plane. After a free-fall to the gyarados fighting below, there were no survivors. All of this was only determined after reviewing the black box, retrieved by pokemon trained to dive in deep oceans.
Devastated by the loss of his parents, Tobias had gone on a downward spiral. He stopped showing up to work, showering, or even bothering to eat. He didn't have any other relatives; his grandparents had all already passed, and both his parents had been an only child. He had lost quite a few pounds before settling for the only solution he felt he had left.
Tobias had decided that to honor his parents' memories - twisted logic of a starved, depressed, and half-crazed mourner - he would jump off a bridge and join them in the water, where they would be reunited.
Tobias had gotten what he wanted in the end. I later learnt that after a concerned citizen saw him jump and notified the authorities, he had been rushed to the hospital only to legally die on the operating table. However with the impressive medical ability of both man and pokemon, they had been able to resuscitate his body. The problem was, Tobias hadn't been the one revived - I had.
'So I guess this means I live in the pokemon world now... huh,' I thought, slowly coming to terms with this sudden turn of events. 'I guess that means I died as well...'
I wasn't quite sure how to feel about dying. My life hadn't been bad in all honesty. But compared to living in the pokemon world... well this definitely had potential. 'I guess I'll just have to roll with the punches and see what happens.'
It was then that a nurse finally showed up to check on me. She seemed a bit surprised I was awake. But surprise turned to a bit of joy, and then a mask of professionalism settled on her face. "It's good you're finally awake. It was a bit touch and go there for a while, but you seem to have pulled through." She then went about doing routine checks to see if I could leave any time soon. "You're well enough to bring out your pokemon to chat for a while if you want," she said offhandedly.
My pokemon? Tobias never had any pokemon and I sure as hell didn't catch one while unconscious. But sure enough as I looked a little harder, there was a red and white orb sitting on the bedside table. I was as confused as I was giddy. My own pokemon! How I had dreamed of this back in my old life. Deciding to ignore the obvious questions, chalking it to ROB nonsense just like my reincarnation, I reached out and palmed the pokeball.
Pushing the button, out popped an eevee. The cute living ball of fluff appeared from red light right onto my chest. Eevee looked around curiously, unsure of their surroundings. I'm man enough to admit I squee'd out loud when I touched Eevee's soft fur; 'so fluffy!' They seemed to like it, purring into my touch.
Stroking Eevee's head, I decided to see if they could understand me, "so Eevee, do you know how you got in that pokeball?" I asked, confirming if they really were my pokemon, or someone else's. It would suck, but it was the right thing to do. Eevee scrunched up their face in thought before shrugging and shaking their head.
Well I guess that's close enough to as a confirmation of ROB nonsense as I will currently get. "OK, then are you a boy? Or a Girl?" I asked, purposefully channeling Professor Oak as I did so. Eevee considered this before giving two barks. "So a girl then?" I wondered out loud. Eevee nodded; the smug expression she sported because I had understood her was just too cute!
Continuing to stroke Eevee's fur, I pondered where to go from here. They would probably keep me in the hospital for at least another day, but I felt fine besides some minor soreness and stiffness. I knew from Tobias' memories that I was currently located in Rustboro City. With an eevee by my side, I could easily do the gym circuit just like in the games.
Well, both Tobias and I may have been content with mediocrity in the past, but I knew I had been given a gift most people of my generation would have killed for in my old life. I couldn't waste it trolling on the pokenet anymore. No I think it's time I spread my wings and soar. 'Look out pokeworld, here I come,' I internally crowed.
XX
After I was finally discharged from the hospital, I headed back to Tobias' family home... or my home now I suppose. I may as well embrace the fact I'm going to essentially be taking over Tobias' identity. For all intents and purposes I now was Tobias.
At least my circumstances were quite favorable to starting out as a journeying trainer. Morbid as it may be, the accident Tobias' parents had experienced would let me make a clean break from Rustboro very easily. I had already been fired from work, I had gotten all the money from my inheritance in my bank account, and with no friends or relatives I would have nothing and no one tying me down - or realizing I wasn't really Tobias.
From my new memories I knew that the pokeworld I now lived in was basically a mishmash of the games and anime. But there were also definite differences that weren't present in any canon medium. The starkest difference I could remember was the existence of The Pokemon Fan Club. Now I'm not even going to speculate exactly what went on in these establishments in canon, but in this world... they were essentially high-end pokemon brothels. It was very common knowledge, as well as the fact that having a pokemon paramour was not even restricted to just the rich and well-connected. It was so common that the average person accepted it as normal - just not their cup of tea.
Also, mega evolution had been cropping up recently. Steven Stone, current champion of Hoenn, could use the ability to mega evolve his shiny metagross. In fact many gym leaders and elite four members, in Hoenn and other regions, were showing off new mega evolutions.
This all brought me to an interesting conclusion... if I could find myself a shiny of the ralts line, and eventually get a mega gardevoir... we could potentially fuck. Now I don't know about anyone else, but to me shiny mega gardevoir might be the hottest pokemon in existence. And in what is essentially a hentai pokeworld... might as well go big or go home.
Well, boring exposition chapter is boring. Eventually we will get to more interesting things.
